The Canifor hotel in Malta was disgusting the magority of staff were extreemly rude and very unhelpful, the food was that bad that on a number of occations we left the hotel to go and buy a mcdonalds which i shouldn't expect to do in a four star hotel. one evening while i was on holiday i became really ill and needed a drop of water which no bottled water was supplied in anyone's room, my partner went to reception to ask if we could have some and they replied sorry we have no water to give you, you will have to go to the shops in the morning which my partner was not at all pleased at.
The waiters and bar staff were so rude we didn't even get so much as a hello out of thme all the while we were there. one evening me and my partner was going to have a game of pool while we waited for his parents to finish their drinks and some of the balls were missing we asked the bar staff if we could have them as we had put our money in to relese the balls and they said the pool tables were nothing to do with them go to reception so we didand they gave the same answer so we went back to the staff by the pool tables and asked for our money back and yet again theie answer was sorry there is nothing we can do.
the maids in the hotel you hardly got a hello or good morning out of you had to ask for your sheets to be changed otherwise they never got done and the lowest of the low from the maids my partner had money stolen out of his wallet which was in his suitcase and they were also caught going through the draws where our belonging were.
The best thing about the bcanifor hotel was the karoke nights Tony one of the bar staff got up and joined in with singing and that he was great, the most kindest, friendliest, most welcoming person in that hotel.
if i was to go back to the canifor hotel it would be because there was nowhere else to stay and to go back and see Tony. It was a big dissapointment because the rest of Malta and the people there was lovely i cant wait to go back soon but in a different hotel.

1st holiday away with the family+ friends.
on arrival at 4 oclock in morning we asked for a cup of tea ,coffee or even just a glass of water we were told "machine" that was by the manager(single occasion he came out of his seat)
the lifts were constantly broken.
A member of my family got very ill one night and their partner went down to reception to ask if she could have a glass of drinking water and was told NO go to shop in morning, they even offered to pay for a glass of water and was also told NO.
The rooms were fairly big but after a couple of days the truth came out about the cleanliness of the rooms, sheets were changed twice in 10 days.
The staff were veryvery rude in the moning we would say good morning and the oonly staff that even achknowledge us was the cleaners.
one couple in my family walked in to their room to find on 1 occasion a cleaner going through there draws and on another occasion another maid was going through their suitcases.
The food was so tasteless 2 members of my family was sick after having 1 dish and i had i had hairs in my food a couple of times.
if this is 4 star then i would hate to see the 2 star hotels.
i wont go on because their is far to much to tell.
but save yourselves some money and trouble and dont go there.
But if we get rid of the hotel i enjoyed malta a lot.

worst holiday ever after 2 days we wanted to come home every day got worse the staff were really rude besides the maids which cleaned the rooms
food for all inclusive was really bad same every night roast dinner and for luch was what was left over from the night before for all inclusive you are not allowed drinks besides soft drinks water and beer you weren't even allowe fresh juice or fruit ice cream was only allowed with dinner and lunch so if you want a snack during the day it was either a sandwich or burger and chips that was it
the pool looked like a pond you couldn't fit no more then 6 people in it the chlorine in the pool was really strong and burned your eyes and as for the indoor pool its in the basement and it was so dark and dank big let down
not suitable for children at all no play erea as stated just 2 pool tables not kid friendly
malta its self was nice but the roads were really bad you need a lot of money to have a good time if you can as everything besides the pubs seem to close at 6 pm
all in all a very big let down

Just returned from a week at this hotel and we were very very dissappointed. My husband and I arrived on the Friday evening with another couple too be told that they only had one room and we would have to share. The attitude was take it or leave it that's all there is! We finally got our own room the next day after making a fuss and then spent the morning waiting for it to be cleaned and clean bedding to be put on. The staff need to learn some customer service and to try and smile a bit more. The food was very boring, the same orange squash and eggs for breakfast, fresh fruit available if you asked for it and then only an apple or an orange put on a plate, no presentaton skills at all. The evening meal was the same most days and served very miserly by the chefs. Whan you ask for more they question you and then hand over, very reluctently another half a spoon. We were All Inclusive but no afternoon biscuits or cakes as stated in the brochure. The entertainment was great if you could ballroom dance and didn't mind fighting off tha Maltese who seemed to overtake the hotel on several days off the week. The location was good as there was a bus station nearby. Wouldn't recommend this hotel too anyone and certainly won't be coming back.

If anyone going here expects VIP treatment they are going to the wrong place! Its a standard hotel in an OK part of malta! But what more can you ask for - its cheap and cheerful - we paid £220 for one week all inclusive - we ate, drunk and made the most of what was there - some other people on this website just like to moan for moanings sake!!
Food wasn't as bad as I anticipated - breakfast was probably the worst. But for Lunch you could choose from some nice snacks at the bar or a set menu which was always quite nice! Dinner was buffet style and always something different so we never got bored! The only real thing the meals lacked was fesh fruit and veg...but we easily solved that problem after finding a fruit stall in the town!
Like one of the other guests commented there was no hot water in the mornings and the hotel staff seemed shocked by this (and didnt do anything about it!) but when we talked to other guests they all seemed to have the same problem too!We also got the weird noise which kept us awake - something, again which the staff couldnt seem to figure out!!
The outside pools are tiny (and freezing!!) but there great for when you're boiling hot! Its not the hotels fault that the sun goes away at 3 - im sure lots of other hotels have the same problem! The sun terrace was windy at times but on a nice day it was lovely...
The staff were lovely and friendly (if not a little mad!!)and they even joined in with the karoke! Theres not much to do in the actual hotel -its not exactly catered for a crazy holiday - but the bus terminal is just down the road and it can take you to beaches, st Julians etc....!!
The salsa bar just down the road was good for a laugh and a dance - just watch out for the maltese men (and a certain weirdo called Stuart!)! and if you walked down the other side of the hotel it was beautiful at nite, with shops etc in the day time!
Overall it was a good holiday for what we paid...just go with an open mind and you'll have a great time....

we were all inclusive which was a joke the food was poor and the cleanliness was non existant our room had broken tea cup handle in it when we arrive and after 2 weeks of the maid 'cleaning' the room it was still there. I would be hard pushed to give it a 2 star rating. Bar staff were friendly but restaurant staff were very ignorant and there was too many tables fitted in there, no room to move.

Went here very optimistic having read the other reviews, my partner and myself were planning on having as much fun as possible and wernt going to let small things get us down. However i have to say this is by far the worst hotel i have ever stayed at.Ever. and we are quite the travellers so we have stayed at a few bad ones!
Breakfast was discusting ever morning with pathetic hot-dog style sausages and fried eggs that had solid yolks.Lunch wasnt much better and u can tell straight away the food is very very cheap. The chips werent properly and there is hardly any choice on the menu because it is waiter service and not a buffet.I would reccomend going to the bar to get some snacks which taste mildly beter.
The first night we couldnt get to sleep because of some vent above are room which was so noisy however this problem went away and so we wernt too bothered by it.
Every single morning we stayed at this hotel, we had to have cold showers.and i dont mean warm or mild i mean freezing cold-giving me a headache every morning! and it didnt really matter what time u woke up.if u woke up at 6am the water would be too hot to use.it would literally scald u. so if u waited u would get freezing colcd there was no inbetween. The evening were much better with warm water that was ok to shower in.showers and fairly powerful and the rooms and bathroom are of a good size and are generally in good conditions.
The weather was good during our stay but the sun casts over the sunbeds at around 1 or 2 oclock which is completly stupid.Even tho u can go up to the roof to sunbath it is very windy up there and rather cold!
The indoor swimming pool at the hotel was actually discusting. We never used it because the water was a milky white colour and look filthy. The balcony in the room was apathetic and u couldnt even move with 2 people on their. The view from our hotel room was over the pool which was fine apart from the building work that started at 7am everyday next door.
The good point on this hotel is the staff which are very friendly especially Trevor the englishman who was very helpful. It is in a fantastic location, round the corner from the bus terminal which is fantastic it costs practically nothing to go anywhere on the island.Lots of bars nearby which are good and cheap.Shops close also.
Malta is a lovely island and we had a great time exploring, going to gozo and golden bay was great.Everything in Malta is fairly cheap especailly food.I reccomend incoignitos for a fantatic place to eat and it is very cheap.Ask staff for directions.
overall malta is a lovely place and i would definalty go back but never ever to this hotel it is a complete shambles but acted as a good base to explore.we paid £270 AI 7days which was very cheap but we wish we had paid more to get better accomodation, food, entertainment(which was awful.old man on keyboard playing oldies).if u book to stay at this hotel after reading these comments ur a fool! if u have already booked then i wouldnt expect much becqause ur not going to get much at all.it was dreadful!

We had the worst holiday ever ! The food was so bad we had to eat out having paid all inclusive.orange juice for breakfast was orange squash the sausages were pink the bacon had bone in it When we complained to the manager he could not care less ! and had a like it or lump it attitude. the room was just about ok but the sink was cracked and the bed sheets were not changed all week and their was no mattress protector just a sheet on top of the mattress, the out door pool was freezing the in door pool was milky as for the hot tub it was empty of water.everyone at this hotel was disatisied and most people were eating out ,next door was a building site say no more about the view! unless you like cranes and junk, this holiday cost us over one thousand pounds for a week ! and we were glade to get home ,the caribbean is about the same cost but much better value (the worst holiday ever and we have traveled extensively) PLEASE PLEASE GIVE THIS PLACE A MISS .

Just got back from 1 weeks stay at canifor hotel,we were very pleased to get home! The hotel is definately not a 4star only a 2 star at most!
Our room was at the back of the hotel and at night the bars in the street played very loud music into the early hours, the dustcart then collected the rubbish in the street below our window at about 4.30/5.00 am, so not easy to sleep!
The bathroom in our room was only cleaned in certain places-there was black in the corner of the bath and the walls were black and mucky from head height upwards, was horrible showering in there.
The restaurant and food were really something else! There were long queues outside the restaurant waiting to be seated in the very cramped dining room, plastic tablecloths in the morning. Long queues for the toasters which jammed the bread or did'nt cook properly, the queue for the drinks machine for tea and coffee was long-the cooked breakfast was disgusting! Evening meal was almost inedible-even something as simple as boiled potatoes came served up with a spoonful of water! We were half board and after our experience of the restaurant the first 2 days we had to eat our meals out elsewhere .
The entertainment was poor-2 people singing with a keyboard not always in tune!
There was loud music everywhere in the hotel communal areas and no quiet areas to sit and relax. There were even some of the old people dancing in the foyer in the evening!
Overall to us the hotel was very poor and we wouldn't recommend staying there.
It was so bad that we never unpacked our suitcases all the time we were there-we wanted to go home after the first day!

Food was good plenty of variety carvery 3 times a week. There was fresh fruit available if people bothered to read the menu (had to ask for it). Staff very friendly and amusing i.e. Tony and Alex barmen.
Rooms very clean, fresh towels every day. Some people were whinging about the food but this may have something to do with chips not being on the menu, instead were lovely garlic potatoes mash, boiled roast etc. If not happy with the food then eat out, plenty of bar/restaurants in near vicinity.
Entertainment was poor' the two elderly musicians mentioned in other reviews were there, but when they played the dance floor was full! I must admit we were the youngest there and I am 53. So we went out to nearby bars despite being all inclusive, (doesn’t mean you are tied to the hotel) and saw some excellent shows including an Elvis tribute at nearby Simons bar.
Overall would stay there again, not a four star but a good three star. Indoor pool and Jacuzzi good looked clean to me.

We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights and was disappointed with the overall accommodation. We feel that the hotel should not be listed as a four star hotel.
In general the hotel is very old and tired looking, the staff are courteous and friendly, and the food is quite good, although the cleaning could be a little better.
The swimming pools are on the small side and therefore not really usable if more than three people wanted to use them.
Toaster kept breaking down in the main dining room and there were no facilities to make tea in your room, if you wanted to. The TV had no remote control in the room as you had t pay a deposit for that and if you need towels for the pool area you also had to pay for these.
I personally would grade this as a 2 star hotel.

Hotel is nice, the staff are friendly but the entertainment is third rate and the food is mediocre. Not a good selection of food with a self service system that reminded me of a holiday to Butlins.

I have spent 4 weeks at this hotel from Jan/Feb 2007, I cannot understand people who moan about it. I thought it was ok, the staff always helpful, if you could not make a meal from what was on offer in the morning or evening you must eat 5 star at home - you get what you pay for - excellent value for money. The maître d/Vincent always helpful, rooms cleaned every day, as for building going on not to bad/look at Spain everywhere. So have a holiday enjoy Malta and its people and its history.
Thank you Hotel Canifor and staff see you again.

Positive: Impressive reception area; generally friendly, helpful and hard-working staff (except the restaurant chefs - see below), good location close to promenade and bus station/shops, room clean with fresh towels every day, food mostly edible and filling, AI guests could 'book out' bottles of water on their card whenever they wanted (no drinking water in rooms).
Negative: Food very bland, boring, tasteless, occasionally disgusting and always COLD; evening meal a 'buffet' but meat and veg served by chefs (?) giving out very small portions - ask for more and you get a dirty look along with another half a spoonful. Restaurant tables far too close together, much shoving and pushing for the evening meal. Shower heads very poor, television in room only has CNN and Sky News in English. Orange juice for all-inclusive guests translates as a horrible orange squash, even when served as a meal course; long wait for snacks ordered at the bar - probably because only ever one person on duty.
Entertainment a joke - a couple on the keyboard every evening and the older folk doing ballroom dancing; we pre-paid for tea/coffee making facilities but it wasn't in the room until we asked for it (note that teabags and coffee are of very low quality but luckily we had our own, and the cartons of milk you get are really coffee creamer but we discovered that you can ask for a glass of milk in the bar under the AI option). Very small outdoor pool - not a problem in October, but in the summer it would be hopelessly inadequate.
Overall - we felt cheated because we expected to be staying in a four-star hotel and this is clearly not, it is two-star at most even with the pools. I suspect the fact they have to cater for so many all-inclusive guests means that they have had to cut corners (and quality) in order to be cost-effective but I'm afraid it shows. The talk amongst all the guests was mainly about the quality of the food, and I have never heard so many people at the end of a holiday say how much they are looking forward to going home!
