Lovely hotel, super efficient staff

Jan 2012, ocdmum

we stayed for a week during October half term 2011, I couldn't fault the service provided - the staff were attentive, polite and helpful everywhere. the food selection was exceptional with a huge variety of meats, fishes, pastas and salads at every meal. The resort is a bit disappointing with nowhere really to walk to no bars or anything much to look at but as we were all inclusive not too much of a problem. Not too much in the way of evening entertainment. rooms were huge, and the views great as you are so high up. Downsides: the pool has very few shallow areas for people who are not confident swimmers and it was freezing, so cold that even my teenagers avoided going in! A great place for a weeks break, but two weeks would be boring unless you went out on lots of trips. Bottom pool is the best (and where the pool bar is) there is a door by the bar that leads out to the pavement so you can walk down the hill.

We Stayed at the Jardines Del Teidi in April - the weather was fab. good points about this hotel. the water was hot & constant the bath towels were big & soft..thats it! The hotel is not in any resort, its at the top of a very steep hill, and consists of blocks of bedrooms scatered down the hill side, there are many steps, within the hotel grounds .The rooms are basic 3 star standard there was a fridge but it was not stocked, not even with water.Having paid a 4 star price we were very dissapoined at the service or lack of it in this hotel There was no waiter service at the bar - had to scrum down with Europeans if you wanted a drink. The dining room was christened the morgue, due to the black shrouds which covered the tables, on top of which was a brown PLASTIC table cloth, black PLASTIC mats and black paper napkins, every meal was accompanied by a rendering of the same dreary funeral type music which went around in a loop and never changed, . There is no lounge in the hotel. Guests made a rapid exit straight after dinner to one of the local bars or another hotel, there is just no where to sit and relax, this was not the all inclusive holiday we had paid for. had to buy drinks every night else where, then climb heart attacK hill to get back. Go there at your peril

Very nice location, the most beautiful beach El Duque is cca 8 min. to walk. The best wiev and very nice hotel. But forget for service in Restaurant or in Bar. Nobody takes care about you. Maybe two people are doing very good job, but it is not enought. Many spanish people and childs.
But we spent a lot of time to knowing of tenerife. Was very nice.

There are a lot of things going for this hotel but the food was terrible. Great rooms, ours had a large, private patio/balcony (we had paid for sea view) and was in a block of 2 so was quiet. The pools were lovely and for the first time in Tenerife the sun beds were NOT all booked by 8.00am! We went down around 9.00am and just chose our spot.
Although outside school holidays there were a lot of small children and babies - not our scene at all ,so the pool areas were noisy.
On all inclusive you need to chose your drink carefully -beer good, gin ok, brandy rough, clavados rougher, "baileys" passable - don't try the "Tia Maria" unless you like liquorice. Red wine fine.(didn't try the others)
The food was luke warm, overcooked, supplied sporadically when it was busy and most meat was tough as old boots. There were only a few very hard working waiters not enough. The atmosphere was of a canteen rather than a restaurant. We lived off salad and bread and cheese largely. Admitedly we did not expect good food but this was bad.

The hotel was very nice, the rooms are as shown in the brochure, very spacious, they have fantastic views looking over the pool, gardens & beach. The food was ok but not fantastic, breakfast as most hotels quite a lot to choose from, we did find the evening meal a bit of a let down ok if you like chips with everything? could have done with a few potates & fresh veg, but enough choice not to go hungry. The pool area on the ground floor was very nice with lovely views overlooking the sea, the pool is quite deep & also very cold! It is within walking distance to the beach & shops but has quite a steep hill if walking back. The reception staff where very polite & helpfull but the bar staff need to learn a few customer service skills & how to smile! The hotel entertainment was quite good much better than we'd expected. We would definately stay there again when go back to Tenerife.

Value, Quality and Cleanliness

From start to finish, we had an Excellent stay at this hotel. The standard of our room was very high,as we paid a supplement for a sea view and it was well worth it.
The food was of a good standard, but it got a repetetive after two weeks as meals had a theme, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, as well as the usual Paella, Chicken, Pork every night. The fish dishes provided were fantastic, if you like fish, as i do.Bottles of quality wine, San Miguel beer, branded soft drinks are seved with your meal.
We ate out on a couple of nights, just for a change, overall, food was very good.
Staff were also very nice and polite. As i speak a little of their language, this seemed to make a difference as they appreciate guests who try to speak Spanish.Reception staff were very helpful and courteous toward us. The Restaurant staff were nice also, with a few exceptions. Some of the male waiters were more interested in serving the female guests, rather than serving the 40 year plus Scotsman and his wife. But, you can understand that one.The cleaning staff who made up and cleaned our room every day were very polite and done a great job.
The guests at the hotel were mainly from Spain,Germany, Holland and Italy, very few British guests.I suppose this may have its plus points.
A point to be improved could be the Satellite TV,it never had any British channels, apart from CNN.Not that you watch the telly much on this lovely Island, but it would be nice to have Sky or BBC news.
Location of the hotel in Adeje, was brilliant. On a hill, which may not suit everyone, but it had lovely views from all parts of the hotel.
Taxi into Las Americas from hotel was 6.00 euro , to our favourite bar, The Temple Bar/ Irish Fiddler in San Eugenio, from hotel was 5.00 euro going and 7.00euro, going back late.
In to Los Christianos was 11.00 euro. The bus service is good, but you have to walk down to the local terminus, 10 minute walk from the hotel, to get the bus to take you all over. Bus fare is 1.30 euro single to Las Americas/Los Christianos.Good value.
I would have no problem in returning to this hotel for another holiday.

Have been to Costa Adeje twice before so after a stint in hospital my husband and I and our daughter needed a trip away.
booked holiday via Monarch which was fine and the hotel was pleasant upon arrival. We had a room on the fifth floor with the balcony/terrace going straight out onto the pool, which worried me somewhat due to the little one only being 3, so made sure she could not open the doors!
The restaurant food was ok for the first few days but went downhill by day 4. Food was cold and nothing was labelled so most of it was guess work. Trying to find somewhere to sit was also a challenge every evening. (tip.. order a bottle of wine a not a glass!)
I wouldn't even bother going down to the 'snack bar' during the day unless you like the same food being offered to you on a daily basis, (also the occasional fashion show beng held around the pool) The staff really couldn't care less about you in the 'snack bar', just asking for a beer seemed a huge hassle for them. Most of the time you had them putting hot food straight onto cold food, eg: chips, burgers, kebab meat!
The room was fine, clean and tidy.
Be warned.. the walk to the beach and back is a slight trek and uphill all the way back!
Wouldn't really recommend the hotel to anyone but Costa Adeje is lovely and will be going back later this year (but to a different hotel)

The hotel itself was fine, a few niggles but nothing too exasperating. I agree that if you are looking for English company, try another hotel.
The Boss has been there before, and I found that her indoors knowledge was helpful. If you decide to come here, go all inclusive and look for a Morrocan bar keeper, called Hassan, an amazing guy!!! some of the staff were so anal it was emabarrasing, they chose to go where they thought the tips were... wrong choice!!
Food.... average to above average, the Spanish speakers got the best, weird breakfast menus.. I have travelled but as previous, some items would be served morning after, there were some high points, romantic meals (extra supplement) were not charged as the waiter service was that slow they daren't offer a bill, the "cuisine" that night was OK, had better before.
Didn't see the cracks in the pool as mentioned previously, but there were some cracks in the buildings.
The hotel is away from las americas and such, thank god!! some great local beaches not too far away, the wallk down and up from the hotel will shift some of the all inclusive pounds!! We met some "locals" in the bar and in 4 nights were accepted as tenerifians, so friendly is a deffo!
I chuckled when I read previous reports about the pool guy, it is SOOOOOO true. his party trick is to catch dragon fly off the side of the pool...if you have children, use the top pool, not the one round the bar/snack area
Overall, if you want an inexpensive holiday with unlimited food/booze and are not a gastronome, this place will do you fine.
We found the room clean and comfortable, no signs of pubic hairs around the bath as mentioned previously ( the maid must have had a shave on our night of cleaning!!!) staff were good, especially one young guy on reception, I would give him a job if he came to me, nothing was too much trouble.
Bar the food, which was tolerable, but for the money, (do you want Gordon Ramsay/Nigel Slater shouting "Bollocks"??? )the hotel was good, the bar was awesome and the food was ok.. best of all I got a pint pot from Hassan after he sussed I was a Lancastrian/Scouser and knew about Tugay, the Blackburn footballer, and boy did that make the Spaniard's/Germans/russkis mad!!

If you’re looking for a great Tenerife holiday, without the hustle and bustle of Las Americas, then this is an ideal place to stay.
I was there for a week stay last January and found it the perfect break, not least because of the weather. The hotel was kept immaculate at all times and, while the room was basic, sheets and towels were changed on a regular basis.
The food I found to be a little tedious, however, it was all cooked and presented well, with the service being first class.
The entertainment I felt was catered for the Spanish residents, however, the hotel is situated only a 5 minute walk to a selection of pubs and restaurants. In addition, the town centre is a short taxi ride away.
All in all, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I know I will definitely be back.

Absolutely beautiful hotel. I put on 7lbs in a week due to the wonderful buffet that was there.
The room was huge and our balcony overlooked the pool and the sea. I was miserable leaving this hotel and would gladly stay here again. The only thing that troubled me was that we were given a map to our hotel room (and got lost!).
Once we found it though, we were delighted.
The staff couldn't have been nicer, apart from one woman on reception, but everyone else was extremely nice.

Just got back from nine nights...

Just got back from nine nights staying at the Melia Jardin del Teide in Costa Adeje.
Had a nice time because the weather was excellent and it was nice to sit around the pool and relax. However, in our opinion (based on staying in similar hotels in the area) the hotel had some considerable drawbacks!!
If you're British and you like to be around others brits then you'll be disappointed. 80% of guests were Spanish, 10% Russian, 5% German and 5% British.
Food was extremely limited for the number of guests staying in the hotel. You would see the same food which had not been eaten being served day after day. Carrots for breakfast - no thanks....! Many a night we would go up to the buffet only to still be wandering around 5 minutes later with nothing on our plates. And we aren't exactly fussy eaters. I can't imagine what it would be like if you had kids. Overall, very poor quality food and very limited selection. If you couldn't find anything to eat in the restaurant then you would have to wait until the next morning as there was no snack bar. We ended up eating out on a few occasions.
The service in the restaurant was terrible, trying to find a table that you could sit at and then trying to order a drink was quite difficult. The restaurant staff seemed overworked and as a result they weren't very happy.
The worst thing about the food was that it was nearly always cold. This was especially worrying.
Our room was tatty; sheets and curtains had holes in them, furniture was broken, the toilet was broken, and the wardrobe door wouldn't open or close. We reported these problems to reception but nothing was ever done about it. The walls were very thin and we were regularly woken with noise from guests either side of us.
The maid service wasn't that good. When we first checked in to our room there were a number of pubic hairs on the tiles around the bath. Not a nice welcome. The outside terrace was always dirty.
The swimming pool wasn't tiled, just a rough painted surface instead. The bottom of the pool had a number of large cracks which had been filled with black cement. The pool water seemed clean enough and well chlorinated, but the bottom of the pool and the steps in to it were dirty.
The hotel had a lifeguard on duty everyday. However, he spent his entire day wandering around the pool talking to the Spanish guests (with his back to the pool) trying to tell them jokes and do magic tricks. Disgraceful that if a child had got into difficulty he wouldn't have even noticed.
The only thing that made the holiday enjoyable was the weather!
All in all, I would recommend to anyone to stay in the Bahia Principe Hotel next door which costs roughly the same and is in a different league. We've stayed there a few times before and have always had a lovely time.

Stayed at the Melia Jardines during September 2006 for 12 nights on an all inclusive basis. My partner and I (both Mid to Late 20's) thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the hotel to almost anyone.
We are regular visitors to Tenerife and normally stay in the Adeje area - plenty amenities nearby and much classier than the nearby Las Americas or Los Cristianos areas.
I always say that Costa Adeje is suitable for any type of holiday, long romantic walks, water sports, kids activities, daytime and evening entertainment, good bus links and roads to explore the island, anything your heart desires.
Building works ongoing in this area so may get busy very quickly. And be spoiled by the yob tourists.
The hotel itself: Decent 4 star
Hotel is situated in large grounds on a hill so had multiple levels and may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Popular hotel for Spanish Germans and Scots (courtesy of low cost Fly Globespan), excellent views.
Food good enough, decent choice and non repetitive. Rooms, we had an upgraded room so not sure about the standard rooms. Ours was large and comfortable with good sized bathroom. The Maid service was good and the room and hotel in general very clean.
Facilities, two pools, we mostly stayed at the quieter one on the same level as the restaurant. Usual daytime and evening entertainment. Gym (not really) just a couple of exercise bikes. Did not use much of the other facilities. Plenty of space at either sun terrace or pool areas.
Staff, all very friendly and polite (apart from 1 waiter in the restaurant who could easily have been a miserable Scot like myself), most spoke good English and all were good natured (even the gardeners and janitors)
Anyone wanting a drunken party hotel, stay away
If you want a nice peaceful stay in a nice hotel with good facilities in a good area then this is highly recommended.
