Stayed at the Melia Jardines during September 2006 for 12 nights on an all inclusive basis. My partner and I (both Mid to Late 20's) thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the hotel to almost anyone.
We are regular visitors to Tenerife and normally stay in the Adeje area - plenty amenities nearby and much classier than the nearby Las Americas or Los Cristianos areas.
I always say that Costa Adeje is suitable for any type of holiday, long romantic walks, water sports, kids activities, daytime and evening entertainment, good bus links and roads to explore the island, anything your heart desires.
Building works ongoing in this area so may get busy very quickly. And be spoiled by the yob tourists.
The hotel itself: Decent 4 star
Hotel is situated in large grounds on a hill so had multiple levels and may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Popular hotel for Spanish Germans and Scots (courtesy of low cost Fly Globespan), excellent views.
Food good enough, decent choice and non repetitive. Rooms, we had an upgraded room so not sure about the standard rooms. Ours was large and comfortable with good sized bathroom. The Maid service was good and the room and hotel in general very clean.
Facilities, two pools, we mostly stayed at the quieter one on the same level as the restaurant. Usual daytime and evening entertainment. Gym (not really) just a couple of exercise bikes. Did not use much of the other facilities. Plenty of space at either sun terrace or pool areas.
Staff, all very friendly and polite (apart from 1 waiter in the restaurant who could easily have been a miserable Scot like myself), most spoke good English and all were good natured (even the gardeners and janitors)
Anyone wanting a drunken party hotel, stay away
If you want a nice peaceful stay in a nice hotel with good facilities in a good area then this is highly recommended.

Flew to Tenerife on the 12th August 2006 for a 10 night stay in the Jardin del Teide via flyglobespan.
Hotel is very nicely presented on the top of a hill. Reception is elegant on arrival with stunning views in all directions. All the staff bar one at reception are very friendly, English speaking and keen to help. We did have a 2 hour wait when we arrived before we were able to check into our room, which did cause some inconvenience!
However when we eventually did get into the room it was large, spacious, bright, clean and everything you would expect from a 4star hotel! The air con is excellent and not once did we ever feel too warm!
Had a lovely balcony commanding great views of the ocean (including a few cranes, which were never any hassle or too loud)!
Food was of a good standard with a variety of different styles on offer. I have to admit it probably was of a more 3 star standard but I never didn't find something I wanted to eat! Breakfast was great with cakes, fry ups, fruit. All very tasty! We ate lunch everyday at the poolside snack bar on the ground floor! Consisting of burgers, chips, everything the kids would love!
Dinner, in the main restaurant was all buffet style again, and again was all edible!
Help yourself to juice and fruit (which was a nice touch) all day including ice cream. There were a couple of nice espresso machines around the hotel which were also lovely!!
I can't comment on the shows as I never went to see any, but there was something different on every night as far as I could hear!
Landscaping and surroundings were all beautiful and idyllic over the 7 floors of this hotel! Which was easy to access via the 3 lifts! Though comically there was a sign outside of these which had been translated into English reading "Incase of fire do not use"....we used them everyday!
Short walk, 10 mins takes you to the newly build elegant shopping centre, plenty of famous names i.e. Cartier, Tiffanys, Chanel and the main town of Costa Adele is there aswell.
The only trip we did was aqualand which was probably overpriced and the queues were big but a good day out and only a 5-7 euro taxi ride from hotel!
Pools were both lovely and kept clean. But if you wanted a particular spot on the sun beds you will have to get up early to put your towels out, but not before 9 as we found out if you do that your towels will be removed by reception...eek!
Maid service changed towels, bed linen and cleaned up (folded my clothes) everyday and was never imposing!
I would definitely recommend this hotel to families (plenty to keep children occupied) couples, which is what we were. Not to groups of singles looking to party. Nice for a 10 night stay, anymore I think would become too repetitive!

My husband and I (mid 20's) spent one week at this resort in March 2006. We highly recommend this resort if you are looking for somewhere quiet and with a bit of class... away from the commercialized area of Playa De Las America.
This area of Adeje is relatively new, with construction still taking place around the resort. We did hear / see the construction during the day, but the resort is secluded enough that it was no bother.
We welcomed the 10 minute walk down to the beach. It is a bit of a hill...but nothing to be concerned about. (Very good shopping on the way!) The restaurants in that area are beautiful, romantic and trendy.
The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly. On arrival we were shown personally to our room. There was no waiting for drinks. (There is espresso available in the lounge -I read somewhere that this wasn’t true).
The menu selection was great. Swordfish, lamb, steak, turkey, local fish etc. it was all there.
There are elevators to the lower pool if needed. Never a long wait. Both pools were very clean.
I went to the spa at the lower pool and the staff were so generous they treated me to two ladies for the price of one for an oil massage.
Overall, everyone at the hotel was polite, friendly and quick for service.
Previous negative comments I read prior to going seemed to have been corrected.
Not recommended if you are looking for a wild place to drink and party all night. A great place for couples and a quiet holiday. I'm sure those with children would be happy too.

My girlfriend and self visited this hotel over the 2005/06 New Year. I found the hotel an excellent choice, as soon as we arrived we were shown to our room which was very clean and spacious. The Air-con was on which kept the room very comfortable. We even had enough time to grab a bite to eat as the restaurant was open until 10pm!!
The hotels grounds were lovely manicured lawns, with lots of secluded areas to sit and enjoy the magnificent views over Costa Adeje and away to Playa Americas.
In the morning we had a choice of pools, and chose the bottom pool which was a bit of a walk but very clean and quiet. We found a sun lounger no problem and enjoyed the free snacks and drinks from the pool bar.
The food was excellent at the snack bar and at the restaurant, with lots of choice every night, including some very healthy options, not that any were taken up!!
The only let down to the hotel was the lack of evening entertainment, but as we were on a relaxation break, it wasn't a top priority.
There is also a bus that runs to the beach, but if you fancy walking is only a 10 minute stroll anyway. Overall I was very pleased with this hotel, the food and drink were excellent, the staff very polite and the rooms/pools/grounds were spotless.

Having read a lot of reviews of this hotel I was slightly concerned. But upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised by the facilities available to us.
The Hotel is a bit out of the way, but when we did venture outside (not often) it was only a 5 euro taxi ride to the central areas. For such a huge complex it was completely spotless and well run. As pointed out in previous reviews the food did tend to get monotonous, but there was a huge selection available and we all managed to leave happy. The entertainment in the disco in the evenings was a bit cheesy, but with 12 drunken couples descending to it we managed to add that little extra spark required!!!
The lower pool was excellent as was the snack bar which served freshly prepared food all afternoon. We stayed for a 5 day holiday and I think that was just enough for us - due to the unlimited alcohol available to us!

I have never been so glad to get home from a holiday in my life!!!!!
Upon arrival (after a 4 hour delay) we booked into the hotel only to be told there was a delay in the room being ready and told to go have something to eat and it would be ready. After an 1.1/2 hour wait we were finally given the keys to the room and able to unload the bags.
The description on Sunstars leisure web site describes the hotel as being ‘ on the slop of a hill overlooking the Playa Del Duque beach. The beach is 7 minutes stroll away and the resort centre is 12 minute walk away’
What it actually is, was a 7 minute bus ride away, to the ‘Playa Del Duque beach’ which was a very small section of beach with no shops or anywhere to get drinks from other than a few bars along the front which did not cater for English tastes. We soon worked out that we were not on the ‘Main’ beach we walked for 20 mins discovered the main beach which offered everything we were looking for. As the hotel was so disappointing this was what we continued to do every day.
The hotel described in Sunstars advert said there was 2 heated pools, we found neither were heated and due to the time of year they were very cold so we steered clear of the hotel during the day.
Food was awful, the hotel is 90% German and the hotel cater accordingly!! We resorted to purchasing soup from the spar down the beach to feed our 4 year old son, as the hotel failed to cater for children at all (other than chips). Adult food was tasteless and the main ingredient was garlic and fish.
The service in the dinner hall was awful and we often had to set the table our self. The bar staff would often ignore us at the bar and serve several people before they had no choice but to serve us.
Overall this holiday has put myself and my family off going abroad for a while and we will NEVER stay all inclusive again although previous all inclusive have been very good we have now found out the hard way that you can not rely on the information tour operators give you.
If you are looking for a family holiday this is NOT the place to go. Please do not make the same mistake we did and wasted £2,000.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this Hotel over Christmas and New Year. I can honestly say that it was the best Christmas and New Year we have ever had!. The Hotel was fantastic and the staff couldn’t do enough for you.
There was a wide selection of food on offer in the main restaurant that served breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was also a BBQ that started at 10:00 am and went on till 5:00 pm Which served a wide verity of burgers, hotdogs, fish, steak etc etc also there was fresh salad and every fruit you could think of on offer.
The choice of alcoholic drinks was fantastic they had every thing from local beers and spirits to exotic cocktails! and nothing was too much hassle for the wonderful bar staff.
The Hotel had entertainment every night which was for families and also a lovely bar area on the upper deck over looking the beautiful sea views of Costa Adeje. But if you fancied a lively night out on the tiles the lively resort of Los Americas was only 5 minutes away in a taxi.
Just a short walk from the hotel was a shopping and restaurant district, which had a wide verity of shops and restaurants.
I can honestly say I have no complaints what’s so ever and would recommend the hotel to anyone as the hotel catered for everyone. 10/10

After reading mixed reviews, we travelled (2 adults, 2 children aged 10 and 8) open minded. On arrival at the hotel our first impressions were excellent. Check in was simple and the reception staff explained details of all inclusive clearly and answered any questions we had. The hotel is big but remains personal and private, our room was extremely big and more than adequate for four people (compared to many other hotel rooms we have been squashed into, this was spacious, very very clean and offered plenty of storage space)
The air conditioning was good and the balcony provided splendid views over Costa Adeje and sea views.
There are two pools at the hotel, one at the bottom of the hotel and one higher up, as our room was closer to the latter this is the one we opted for. The pool itself and surrounding areas were clean and tidy all throughout the day. Sometimes we had the pool to our self, it was excellent that there were enough facilities for everyone and no overcrowding.
The restaurant offered a variety of food to suit all palettes with different fish, meat, and salad options on a daily basis. Our children also had plenty to choose from. The staff were pleasant, polite and professional. We can honestly say we did not have one bad meal during the week.
No queuing for drinks, bar staff listened attentively for your order and served with a smile.
There was plenty for the children to get involved with, clubs for them to join in on activities or just meet other friends.
The entertainment on the evening was very good, with different professional shows or live music, sometimes however there weren’t always enough seats for everyone at the evening entertainment, which in turn meant standing for about an hour to an hour and half.
One of the aspects of the hotel that we enjoyed was all the different nationalities, English, German, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian. There was a splendid mix of characters and personalities.
Although the hotel is situated on a hill, there are plenty of lifts to take you where you want to go or lots of steps if you fit and healthy and enjoy the exercise. It is about a 20 minute walk into the town, which is also nice and not boisterous. We usually walked into town and got a taxi back as the walk back can be uphill. The taxis were reasonable.
The area of Costa Adeje is beautiful. Not too much hustle and bustle, just a relaxed area where everyone is welcoming. The beach at del duque is fantastic and the sea is lovely.
We have been on numerous all inclusive holidays all over the world and would have to rate this as the best we have been on to date.
An excellent hotel, excellent facilities and excellent helpful staff.
The hotel truly deserves its four stars!!

The accommodation was excellent we stayed in a junior room massive room, bathroom, and balcony with sunloungers. Maid service every day. Food fabulous massive choice and waiters and bar staff friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is set on different levels with beautiful gardens and a large waterfall flowing from the reception to the bottom pool. The other pool was heated. Towels were provided for sunbathing and there was a gym and health salon. There was entertainment day and night e.g. fashion shows, quizzes, and shows. It was a special birthday for my husband while there and the hotel provided a cake and champagne! It made the whole holiday so special!
This hotel should be a 5* rating!!!!

Just got back from nine nights staying at the Melia Jardin del Teide in Costa Adeje.
Had a nice time because the weather was excellent and it was nice to sit around the pool and relax. However, in our opinion (based on staying in similar hotels in the area) the hotel had some considerable drawbacks!!
If you're British and you like to be around others brits then you'll be disappointed. 80% of guests were Spanish, 10% Russian, 5% German and 5% British.
Food was extremely limited for the number of guests staying in the hotel. You would see the same food which had not been eaten being served day after day. Carrots for breakfast - no thanks....! Many a night we would go up to the buffet only to still be wandering around 5 minutes later with nothing on our plates. And we aren't exactly fussy eaters. I can't imagine what it would be like if you had kids. Overall, very poor quality food and very limited selection. If you couldn't find anything to eat in the restaurant then you would have to wait until the next morning as there was no snack bar. We ended up eating out on a few occasions.
The service in the restaurant was terrible, trying to find a table that you could sit at and then trying to order a drink was quite difficult. The restaurant staff seemed overworked and as a result they weren't very happy.
The worst thing about the food was that it was nearly always cold. This was especially worrying.
Our room was tatty; sheets and curtains had holes in them, furniture was broken, the toilet was broken, and the wardrobe door wouldn't open or close. We reported these problems to reception but nothing was ever done about it. The walls were very thin and we were regularly woken with noise from guests either side of us.
The maid service wasn't that good. When we first checked in to our room there were a number of pubic hairs on the tiles around the bath. Not a nice welcome. The outside terrace was always dirty.
The swimming pool wasn't tiled, just a rough painted surface instead. The bottom of the pool had a number of large cracks which had been filled with black cement. The pool water seemed clean enough and well chlorinated, but the bottom of the pool and the steps in to it were dirty.
The hotel had a lifeguard on duty everyday. However, he spent his entire day wandering around the pool talking to the Spanish guests (with his back to the pool) trying to tell them jokes and do magic tricks. Disgraceful that if a child had got into difficulty he wouldn't have even noticed.
The only thing that made the holiday enjoyable was the weather!
All in all, I would recommend to anyone to stay in the Bahia Principe Hotel next door which costs roughly the same and is in a different league. We've stayed there a few times before and have always had a lovely time.
