Iona Maris Hotel Reviews
" We booked very last minute allocated... "
Submitted By: Mrs S Ridley
We booked very last minute allocated on arrival, a half-term break with our 8 year old son, The flight from Gatwick was excellent and arrived ahead of schedule. Samos town is not promoted as a family holiday destination but our son had a great time fishing for starfish and crabs in rock pools and off the lovely harbour, as well as making friends with the local children. Samos Town, the commercial centre of the island, although out of season, with some hotels and taverns already closed, is still quite busy and atmospheric.

The Town Square and some of the trendier hotel bars attract the young locals, you can find great places to eat on the harbour front and through the little winding streets, which lead up into the old town. There are some good quality boutiques and jewellery shops just behind the main harbour road. The weather was great, sea clear and the small pebble beaches enough to keep our son occupied. Hiring a car and travelling around this pretty island allowed us to visit the two other main resorts which both had pretty harbours. Beaches are mostly pebble with exception of one lovely sandy one on the south of the island. Prices on the island are very reasonable compared to some other Greek Islands that we have visited.

The Our hotel was opposite the beach and very clean with friendly staff, food was OK, but as eating out was so reasonable this did not really matter. We had a really relaxing time on Samos and would go again perhaps B&B next time, so we can sample more restaurants and tavernas. But if you want Kids Clubs and organised Greek nights etc this is not the holiday for you. <br>

The advantage of this resort you are near enough but you do not get involved in the daily hustle and bustle of the islands capital. The hotel itself has bright clean and modern furnished rooms and is certainly better than many Greek hotels in this respect. It also has a fridge in the room so you keep beers cool and saves you the expense of buying everything in the bar. There is a good swimming pool here and there are nice views.
This resort and hotel is only recommended if you want peace and quiet but to be able to enjoy the more vibrant capital of Samos Town easily. Probably not a good choice if a beach holiday is your major priority.
