We booked a late holiday as my job is in a state of flux at the moment and paid a very reasonable price, so my expectations of the San Pawl Hotel were not high to begin with. However room 4061 is graced with a filthy grey brown 'carpet' held together with tape, decrepit... more

San Pawl Fantastic
Well what can i say i went to Malta and the san pawl dreading it !! i was told horrible things about the hotel and i found none of this was true!!! the staff are very very helpful and friendly the rooms was clean tidy and smelling nice!!! the maid service is great our room was cleaned every day and the bed sheets changed every otherday.. the meals was very nice and lots of choice. the enteratinment was of a very high standard. the swimmgpools was clean and well loked after.. my only problem with the hotel is there is no facitlys for children like no play area and the swimming pools was too cold for my daughter ( 14 months old) and the indoor pool was cold but was told it gets heated up in mid november... MALTA!! me and my husband loved it its great for a really relaxing holiday lots of beautiful seanary and gorgous green/blue sea just fantastic.. would highly reomend!!!!! kelly n russ and baby maddison...
think again
noisey and dirty kept awake by a bar opposite a drunk under our balcony and nothing done about it oh by the way the drunk was maltese, corridors dirty carpets dirty air con not working but dripping water everywhere, and staff to busy talking to serve you before you book think again there are far better hotel s about give it a wide berth
Stay Away !!
A supposedly relaxing weekend break was turned into an exhausting experience. Primarily, we were asked to send a deposit which we did 10 days prior to our stay. The norm for a letter to arrive in a small country like Malta is 1-2 days but upon checking in we were informed that they never received our deposit. The receptionist informed us that she would be mailing back our cheque once they received it, and therefore we payed the full price. The room smelt gross, the bathroom was filthy with very little water running which was cold, the tv was broken and heating was a definite no no. To make matters worse, it took me 2 weeks of begging to get my deposit back. No way was I going to pay double the price, not even worth staying for free.
Try Somewhere Else....
Have just spent 12 less than enjoyable days at the San Pawl Hotel and can find almost nothing good to say about trhe place. We booked 2 superior adjoining twin rooms so that we would have some space with our 2 small children and the luxury of air conditioning. This was all confirmed months prior to our stay. However, imagine our dismay when we found ourselves offered 2 adjoining rooms, one with a bathroom ensuite and the other other with a shower and toilet cubicle in the corner of the room. There was no air con, only a squeaky ceiling fan and not even a carpet on the floor. To add insult to injury, a desultory note, left under a bottle of maltese table wine announced that we would haveto put up with this arrangement for 3 nights, after which they might move us. This was a good indicator of things to come and, although resolved eventually after invloving the Manager, sounded the alarm bells. The Pool is filthy and resulted in inummerable ear infections among guests (the doctor who examined my 7 year old said she had 'cauliflowers' growing in there and put her on a course of antibiotics and banned her from using the pool). Symptomatic of the way the hotel is run are notices banning diving and use of air beds in the pool; however these are ignored and it's only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt - but the Hotel has of course discharged its responsibilties by putting up a notice....... I cannot comment on other 3-star hotels in Malta, but standards all-round gave the impression that the management were doing everything they could to cut corners, when a little money spent on the infrastructure (lifts, bedroom fittings, pool cleaning etc) or key staff would have paid off handsomely. For example, there appeared to be only one man, who never took a day off, worked all hours and was responsible for everything from cleaning the pool (hate to come back this one again) to portering, making do and mending etc. You also pay for for every little thing - water is extra at dinner! Another gripe that non-Maltese guests might share would be the emphasis that the Hotel puts on generating revenue from the locals at the expense of residents. For example at weekends the pool is full of Maltese people - not a problem for us as we weren't using it, but irksome nonetheless if you have paid for use of the pool in the price of your holiday. To sum up, they've got you just where they want you - there is no incentive for them to improve and they appear to know that. Not all gloom though, the staff, with the singular exception of the restaurant Head Waiter were helpful, friendly and genuine, and the restaurant did cater for the Brit 'pile it high' brigade, who could not have been disappointed. Finally, a word to potential guests, the street outside the San Pawl is patrolled by 'timeshare bandits' operating out of the Karanne Hotel opposite, who don't take 'no' for an answer and can become abusive. For the less thick-skinned, or respectable people not used to these insidious sales tactics this could really spoil the holiday (if first contact with the San pawl hadn't done that already).
Really good
looking at the reviews on this page i was very worried bout going to the San Pawl Hotel, but those were all thrown out the window as soon as we arrived. staff were friendly, room was clean and ready. pool was cleaned everyday as were the rooms if u required them to be. live entertainment everynight ensured the whole party had a good time, and the food was good 4 wat you paid. this isnt a5* luxury hotel, but i think u get very good value for your money, will hopefully return in the future. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
very disappointing
Very disappointed after the first night. After having paid an extra fee for air conditioning we realised it wasn't working. After continously telling the staff of the hotel about it nothing was done. The food was of a very poor standard. The toaster stopped working every morning when it overheated.
save your money !
stayed in this hotel in june 2006 this hotel is a complete dump ,when we arrived we had no room but they did not seem to think this was a problem but i disagree as i had a 9 year old and a disabled mother in law traveling with me ,i had asked for a low floor before i left the uk they then put us on the top floor ,when we got a room we tried to take the lift it was out of order . once we got to our room it was dirty , mould and dead bugs on the walls the lampshade was held together with selotape the funiture to put your clothes in smelt gross so we did not even unpack my son of 9 had a wooden box with a matteress on for a beb given we had paid adult price for him he should have had a proper bed . we could only swim in the pool 3 days out of 8 as it was so dirty when they did clean it they used a sponge to wipe all the scum from round the edge then clean the sponge off in the pool ! not very hygienic . and the list could go on and on but i think you can get the general standard of this hotel but one positive thing about this hotel is that some of its sfaff are very nice and do at least try to make your holiday enjoyable . i would never use this hotel agian ,i would go back to the santa maria just around the corner as i have stayed there before.
Try somewhere else PLEASE
Stayed for a week in June. First room small and musty beside the road. 2nd room small with dirty carpets and hairs on bed sheets. Shower was tiny and only warm water available in shower. Moved to bigger room at extra cost, had fridge and air con which was better. No towels were available and were not delivered until following day. One lift did not work for 3 days and the hotel was full of elderly people. Stayed half board but food at dinner is very very poor. Quality was terrible. Breakfast was the best part, reasonable selection provided you were early. Staff overall very helpful and friendly. The hotel needs a major clean up, Carpets, Painting, etc. Pool area and entertainment was ok. It looks like the standard accepted in the San Pawl is much less than in other countries. There is no way this is a 3 Star hotel, more like a poor two.
Fabulous hotel.
Have stayed at this hotel twice; once just my husband and I and once with the in-laws and my father. I was pleasantly surprised by the location of the hotel - it's only a few minutes walk to Bugibba. The staff are extremely helpful and make you feel very welcome. There is a good reliable 24 hour manned reception and a safe facility. There is a fantastic "proper" pub literally across the road from the hotel and a lovely coffee bar a few seconds walk to the right, both with good outdoor seating where you can while away a quiet hour or two. Each night there was some entertainment - a variety to please a wide range of people. The food is quite good - the hotel works on a b&b or db&b basis - We stayed for b&b and found that there is a decent selection of cereals, bread, fruits and cold cuts right through to the "English Fry-Up". The rooms are clean and of a decent size. For a hotel of its size, we were pleased to see that that any noise from your neighbours returning to their rooms weren't an issue. The inside pool is lovely (but you may need the staff to up the temp a bit...can be just a bit too cold!) and the Jacuzzi helps you wind down and get your holiday off to a flying start. If you have not visited Malta before, be sure to visit: Gozo - quieter little sister of Malta. There are some breathtaking views to be seen here - The Azure Window is particularly gorgeous. The Blue Lagoon - A curve of some of the clearest water in the Med, nestled by Comino Bay. Superb for snorkelling. Nostalgia Restaurant - An excellent place to eat, just round the corner from the hotel. It has a wonderful menu and wine list and some of the best service I have experienced. It made our holiday special....both times.
I love this hotel
The staff are welcomeing and the room is cleaned every day . There is even a little pub outside . The food is great the rooms are excellent .
