By choosing to use only the lowest quality fixtures and fittings that are available on the open market, San Pawl management has implicitly decided to set itself fairly low standards. As most such equipment at the hotel remained either totally unserviceable or functioned improperly during our stay, it is quite clear that the hotel has consistently failed to achieve even its own lowly expectations.
A ‘3 star’ rating should specify the facilities and standards that are made available to guests. If most of those facilities are not available because of management neglect, how many stars is that worth? In the case of this hotel even ‘1 star’ would be generous and would itself be awarded only because of the sincerely helpful efforts made by most members of its staff towards their guests. Otherwise this poor quality establishment is best avoided by all potential holiday makers except those for whom discomfort is of little or no consequence. 1/10.

First let me say the food and the staff were both good.
Suppose to be a 3 star but I'd only rate it as a 2 at most
Dont believe it when they say air conditioned restaurant IT DIDN'T WORK it was stifling and the windows were opened to let in fresh air, only problem was it let in the hordes of flies as well.
We stayed in a standard room (Never did understand what the word standard meant in this hotel) which to say the least was scruffy with no air conditioning. It did have a ceiling fan but when you turned it on dust flew of the blades of the fan, not floating dust, balls of dust (god knows when it was last cleaned).
The streets were full of dog and cat [--] and rubbish was strewn everywhere.
Would I go again, you've 2 guesses and if you said yes you deserve a holiday there.

We arrived at the hotel and was impressed as it is only a 3 star hotel, you get what you pay for. The staff we found were very freindly and took their time to welcome you and talk to you, i found the men who worked in the restaraunt very freindly, even to the kids. The food at breakfast was ok but you did get fed up with beans, sausages and eggs, i feel they could have offered a better fruit selection and maybe a choice of yoghurts, food in the evening was good, nice variety. The only fault i found was the pool, it was scumy and dirty and both of my children became ill from it, i never see them cleaning the pool until 3 days before i was due to go home, which was then too late as they both had eye infections, throat infections and ear infections, they were not the only ones! The bar staff at the pool were not to friendly i found, one man in mind, Scott was known to ripping people off with the prices, allways ask for a receipt and watch him when you go up again, i would advise children not to go up by themselves, coz he will do it to them as well, i reported it to the manager of the hotel and he didnt seem to care, maybe he is in on the scam! BEWARE!
The hotel is situated in a nice area with everything around you p.s always find somewhere outside to change your money as the exchange is better

Hi,
Where do I start, I have just come back from a two week holiday to Malta. Holiday was from the 3rd of August to the 17th of August at the 3* Hotel called San Pawl (Standard Room, Bed and Breakfast), the hotel was more like a 1* to 2* star hotel.
The hotel was nothing like the pictures that were shown in the broaches, I have complied a list of all the problems that we had with the hotel.
1) CATS DRINKING OUT THE POOL
2) DEAD INSECTS IN THE POOL
3) POOL WAS TO DEEP FOR CHILDREN
4) INDOOR POOL WAS NEVER OPENED
5) WE HAD TO RENT A FRIDGE (WHEN WE FINALLY GOT ONE IT WAS OLD AND DIRTY)
6) NO AIR-CONDITIONING (YOU HAD TO PAY 15 EURO'S EXTRA FOR THIS PRIVILEGE)
7) FAN IN ROOM NEARLY FALLING OFF THE CEILING (FAN WAS NOT POWERFUL, SO WAS JUST PUSHING HOT AIR AROUND THE ROOM)
8) LOUD MUSIC EVERY NIGHT TO EARLY HOURS OF THE MORNING (SAME OLD SINGERS MOST NIGHTS)
9) RUDE STAFF (NO WELCOME DRINKS, PACK OR CONCIERGE)
10) LACK OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE HOTEL AND ACTIVITIES AROUND THE HOTEL AND AROUND MALTA
11) DIRTY BATHROOM (BROWN STAINS IN THE BATH, SHOWER WAS NOT POWERFUL)
12) UPKEEP OF THE HOTEL WAS VERY POOR (CARPETS WERE VERY VERY DIRTY AND THREADING, LIFTS WHEN WORKING WERE VERY POOR AND VERY VERY SMALL)
13) POOR FOOD (NOT MUCH OF A SELECTION, ALWAYS EITHER OVER COOK, UNDER COOK OR STALE)
14) THIS HOTEL IS DEFIANTLY NOT FAMILY20FRIENDLY (NO KIDS CLUB, DIRTY OLD POOL TABLE AND A FEW OUT OF DATE ARCADE GAMES)
15) LOST OUR KEY IN THE WRONG PIGEON HOLE A FEW TIMES
As you can see by the list of things wrong with this hotel, we decided to move out to a different hotel in the second week (THANK GOD).
My girlfriend and I have now purchased an apartment in Malta in the Radisson SAS which is a much much better standard hotel.
We will never be going through a company like yourself again to book holidays and I will def not be recommending your company to my friends, family or any one in fact.
Still can not believe we stuck it out for one week in that hotel.
Total Price for this holiday was £890.38 (which is disgraceful as we only stayed in the hotel for one week).
Many Thanks
Pablo

Me and my boyfriend went to stay at the San Pawl Hotel for 15 nights. When we arrived at the hotel i.e. at 12pm we were greeted by the most friendly receptionist. Although the hotel is a bit old and needs some refurbishments, we instantly loved the warm atmosphere.
When we went up to the room, the cleanliness was great. We were given one of the newly refurbished rooms.
Breakfast and dinner were excellent, staff as well.
On the day of departure we paid to keep our room till 6 which was very cheap comparing with other hotels.
This holiday was one of my all time favourites and I would definitely come back to San Pawl Hotel.
I would like to thank from my heart all the staff at the San Pawl Hotel for the great holiday. Thank you.

Me and my partner went to the san pawl hotel and was very happy with the service and the hotel, we are a young couple and when we arrived at 3 in the moring was happy to be greeted with an open bar, our room was a new refurbished room and is just what we wanted for the money we spent, yes ok so some of the staff were grumpy but what would u be like if you had to work in 30oc heat. if people complain about this hotel then dont spend £700 - £800 pounds on a half board hotel holiday because you get what you have paid for, in the week we were there i had a 3 course meal everyday and it was fantastic, my only advice is dont go here if your a complete snob !

When myself and my husband arrived at the resort at 2am,we were greeted by grumpy, unfriendly reception staff. However on the plus side, our rooms were ready for us straight away, even at this unsociable hour.
The clealiness of the hotel was acceptable. The pool was cleaned every morning, and the sun loungers were scrubbed down.It is advisable however to get down to the pool area early, as the spaces fill up very quickly.
With three star hotels, it is often not known what to expect, but you definately get what you pay for, the hotel is basic.
Meals were very British, and most of the time had a good variety, breakfast was better for choice than dinner, and some evenings the food could be overcooked or undercooked.
The restaurant staff were always polite and courteous, but were quick to clear away the plates, almost as soon as you were finished.
The maid service could not be faulted. Clean towels were provided everyday, and clean bed linen.
Not all rooms were air conditioned however, which sometimes posed a problem, as the fans could take up to 15 minutes to cool the room.
Evening entertainments were different everynight, and were mainly impressionists or singers, however if you are planning an early night, you will not be able to sleep wherever your room is, as you can hear the entertainment, which continues until 23:30 every night.
The prices of drinks tended to be very reasonable, however some guests were talking about being ripped off at the pool bar, being charged more than the receipt stated.
Overall our stay at the hotel was not too bad, however the final straw was before we checked out. When we arrived, we informed the reception of our late checkout, which was at 1am.They informed us that this would not be a problem, as we could keep our room, but we would have to pay extra, which was 24 Euro's. We agreed to pay the extra, but they told us to sort it out on the day of departure.
Throughout the holiday, we kept reminding the reception of our late check out, and they said that would not be a problem, if we paid the money we could keep the room on.
On the day before departure we went to pay the extra for the room at 0800, and the lady on customer services proceeded to inform us that the room was already booked out to other guests that day. They were arriving at 1430, and we had to vacate the room at 0930am.
This meant that we were without a room from 0930-1am the next morning. We had little money left from the holiday, so we sat by the pool and had to go out for lunch in the baking heat, and pay on the card.We were without a room for 15 and a half hours. Not a good end to the holiday.
I would recommend anyone visit Malta, as it is a beautiful country, however, if you choose the San Pawl Hotel, take these comments on board.

Before going I read all sorts of bad reports but they must had been very fussy. When we first arrived the reception staff were pleasant and the reception area was clean and presentable. I will admit that when we went to our room the corridor was dusty and you could smell the damp were people coming in wet as they had carpet on the floor in the corridor. The room was fine bit old and dusty but not disgusting. We got fresh towels every day and they made different designs from them every day! Thank you maids. No air con only ceiling fan which was not very good as it's hard to sleep as it's so hot. They are in the middle of redecorating so it could get better in a few years.
The pool area was fine, if you were to be fussy then you wouldn't like the cleanness of it, I was in and out of the pool as the weather was great and we just lay and roasted. I had a great time the hotel is in a great location from Bugibba square and the bus routes.
We only ate breakfast which was fine for that, dinner we didn't have, it's much better to go out and eat anyway!
All in all the hotel was fine and you do get what you pay for so if you go to book get the cheapest price. I would go back as I loved Malta and Hotel is only for sleeping in and to get changed!

Hotel was fine.
When I go abroad, all I need is a good feed and somewhere to sleep. The hotel met those expectations.
The staff were friendly and courteous. I have absolutely no complaints.
We were half board and the selection of meals were fantastic.
Ignore the previous reviews and find out for yourself. It's basic but extremelly comfortable.

the room was smelly dirty , smelt of cigerette smoke the sheets, towels and curtains all smelt of smoke , dont think they have ever been washed. the carpet needed to be ripped up,it was so dirty wouldnt let a animal sleep on it. The filters on the air con dont think they are checked, the ceiling was filthy were the air con was situated, it resulted in my husband becoming ill. we wre left without toilet roll for three days , it was a good job i took some of my own. the balcony was dangerous if you had kids , the eletric cables were running along anyone could have touched them. the sink in the bathroom was infested with flies coming from underneath. the entertainment was the same each night , there is only so much you can take in listerning to elvis and the 60s,70s,and 80s music. there was no special area for non smokers to sit , my husband and i felt as if we had smoked 30 fags a night. the only slight plus of the holiday was the resturant even that wasnt very good, ok if you like boiled chicken and boiled pork chops . but on a possitive point the weather was good , we have been to malta five times in the past but this was the worst ever, it will be a veery long time before we think of going back?..

read the reviews and take notice i wish i had. what a letdown the hotel was.rude staff ,dirty rooms and poor food.had to change room 3 times due to locks not working on doors also beware of the englishman and the scottish women serving at the poolbar who seem to make there own prices up.malta itself is great but holiday was spoilt by the choice of hotel plenty of bars by hotel
