Booked into this hotel so that we could spend a whole day at the theme park feeling refreshed. Room was tired and a bit dated. Bathroom was very dirty. We booked a family room with double bed and bunkbed (which my six year old kept banging her head on when she got up!!... more

Before going on this holiday we checked out quite a few reviews and they were very mixed so we were unsure what to expect. We had been to the Park many times before so had no worries about that but had never stayed in the Hotel. We had a great time, the Hotel was... more

Well im just back from alton towers, and i am really not happy, the theme park was great but dont stay at the hotel. The matresses in the bed rooms are like slabs of concrete, the entertainment is non existent unless u count a 20 minute sing song, as entertainment. This... more

It's three years since we last stayed here and the hotel has really gone down hill since then. Staff are as friendly as ever but the hotel itself is in need of a makeover. The bathrom in particular was filthy. The entertainment is fine if it's your first stay but it had... more

Overnight stay with family and friends at the Alton Towers Hotel and 2 days in the waterpark as a birthday treat! Fantastic time in the waterpark - great value for money, hotel is rather expensive especially during summer season but provides a lot of value ie evening entertainment. Grounds are beautiful. Will be back again soon!

Over priced, the stay, the food, everything. I much prefer the sister hotel Splash Landings and would advise anyone looking for a bit of fun to stay at that hotel and not this one ....unless you are doing a business conference with a lot of men in suits, cos it does have a... more

The Alton Towers hotel is obviously situated in a very convenient place for people attending the theme park, but it is also situated in a place that leads to easy access to a number of other places and roads. The hotel itself was very pleasant with friendly staff that were... more

Dreadful! This hotel is looking VERY tired and needs to do some basic maintenance before justifying the room prices it charges. Everywhere was filthy, from the main stairs to the rooms themselves. Our room wasn't changed until 4pm and then it wasn't hoovered. The bed and... more

Not again
I agree with previous entry. We pre-booked a cot which was not in our room on arrival. We told two different members of staff that one of the bulbs had blown in a light and this was not resolved before our departure next day. The room was dirty, very dusty and the bath had hairs under bathmat, filthy in soap holder. Towels looked as if they had been used and overall for this price would expect the room to be smarter and cleaner. Food ok but again very overpriced.
Waste of money
We spent four nights at the Alton Towers Hotel at the end of October 2005. All I can say is I wish we had looked at the reviews. The hotel is: * Overpriced *Poor service *Rooms are small and uncomfortable with poor quality finish. No fridge. *Food was very poor at breakfast - everything is budget and the food on offer was uninspired, why not have chefs on duty cooking fresh eggs etc? *The buffett in the Flambos restaurant was pretty good, nice food, well prepared and served but items keep running out. The price of the buffet is extortion. £19 for adults, £8 for children. The problem is that as the two Alton Towers hotels are miles from anywhere you are completely captive for food and just have to put up with it. The evening shows wer good and enjoyable. I appreciate that running theme parks and hotels is an expensive game but Tussauds are making a massive profit £176m in the last reported year, surely they could invest some more into this hotel? Best advice is avoid.
Pretty Average
Checking in at the hotel went quite smoothly but that was to be expected given that we arrived at 10pm. The reception area was very noisy, its all open plan stairway from the basement where the entertainment is and the smell of smoke was quite overwhelming. The room itself was fine, away from the main area and quite quiet. Quite a big room, one double bed and bunk beds for the kids. The room wasn't very clean, cobwebs in the corners and hair on the bathmat. Grout definitely needed doing! And the slowest draining bath in the world. Was almost up to my knees in water by the end of my shower and hubby had to get into that!! Very yucky. Housekeeping didn't get to our room by the time we got back from the morning on the park (2.30pm), but did deliver fresh towels promptly when asked. And the advertised sky channels didn't work either. I was a bit disappointed that for the frankly quite exhorbitant price of the hotel (for what it was) the entrance to the park wasn't included and £80 on top of that for 2 adults and 1 child (children under 4 free) seemed steep. Especially when, once you got there the rides for children were quite limited and a little tired. Didn't feel it was worth the money. The Rita ride was also closed and they also have the cheek to ask for more money to do some independent activities in the park. At that price "everything" should be free. 2 Coffees and 2 kids drinks came to over £10. Having said all that, the waterpark in Splash landings was included in the price and it was quite good. Although our 3&5 year olds couldn't go on any of the slides. Had to be over 1.2m tall, so if we'd had to pay for them I would have been very miffed. And to charge £1 to rent a towel is just penny pinching! One of the major drawbacks to this hotel was NO ROOM SERVICE!!!. How can you call yourself a hotel and not have room service. Not only that, the alton towers hotel does not do lunch - at all!! I had to walk over to splash landings to order some food from their bar. I realise probably most people spend all day in the park and eat there. But I found it annoying. The food from SL was quite good and quite cheap and the lovely bar staff offered to deliver it to the room for me as it was quite late and it was the last order they were taking (3pm), which they did very quickly. So if you need food between breakfast and dinner, get it in the park. And by the way, the breakfast was pretty good for a buffet. Lots of food and very hot. All in all we did enjoy the weekend, but wouldn't do it again.
great time treated like royalty
Had an excellent time, treated like royalty and made to feel special. Rooms very clean and quite spacious. staff are very friendly and helpful. Children loved every minute of it and didnt want to leave. Theme park was great and jump passes were cool too. Water park (careba creek) what fun! even if its raining theres something to keep the kids happy. Food not too expensive 3 childrens 3 course meals and 2 adults meals cost £40, i dont think thats expensive at all, and the meal was very nice. All in all what a great place to stay and fun for all.
we had a great time.............
we stayed at the alton towers hotel on 17 sep for 1 night. it was a birthday present for my boyfriend. we thought the hotel was gorgeous, yeah it was expensive but worth it in my opinion, staying here you get priority to certain rides and can get into the park an hour earlier so we managed to ride 'nemisis' twice and 'air' twice so we didnt need to go back to hose rides. (by the way we queued for 'rita' for just over an hour but worth the wait, this ride is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!) the room was fine, the waterpark was great too, did that as soon as we arrived, entertainment at the hotel was quite good, lots for kids plus some comedy, really enjoyed that. the breakfast has to be the best one i have had at any hotel, loads of choice, proper crispy bacon!!!!!! plus cereal, fruit, yogourt etc etc the meals at the hotel, i thought were reasonable and of good standard, service was efficient, we ate in 'secret garden' for our evening meal. we did visit the splash landings hotel which looked like fun, probably aimed more for younger kids, the monorail goes from here to theme park entrance, both hotels are linked together undercover so can go in and out of each. the grounds of the hotel were amazing, really green, we had a view over a massive garden/fields, very quiet too. overall, i would definately stay here again, the price does put you off a little but if it was a special occasion, go for it!
Terrible Service
We stayed at the Alton Towers hotel for a weekend in August. The hotel itself is nice, the rooms are of a good size and it seems like a really fun place for children. However the extortionate rates are not justified - In fact, it is just a rip off! We were also very disappointed with the quality of customer service. We stayed there for my birthday and my boyfriend had paid extra to have flowers and champagne etc. put in the room. However, when we arrived there was nothing in the room. We unpacked, but then had to move because we had been given the wrong room. The next day our room was not cleaned. We reported this to reception and was told they would get someone to sort it out. However by 8pm it had still not been done and when we complained again, we were told that we had put our 'do not disurb sign' on the door - we hadn't - the room never got done. You would have thought with the prices they charge, clean towels is the least you can expect.
too expensive
Have stayed in both hotels at alton towers, and wouldn't stay again. You just get the feeling you are being ripped off, you are in the theme park most of the day, so your actually paying £200 to stay in a very small room for maybe 8 hours. The room was clean and quiet, and air conditioned. The restaurant is expensive, and they kept running out of food. The kids had 'treasure hunt' in our room, which amounted to a few sweets in a bag hidden in one of the drawers, lasted maybe a minute or so. We went to eurodisney on easyjet, stayed in the holiday inn, and it cost us less than 2 nights at Alton Towers. Wont be staying again, unless they bring the price down to a more realistic level. These views apply to both hotels.
nice hotel but
Room clean and beds comfortable but no air conditioning (only in public areas) and our bedroom was too hot. Bathroom fine apart from black mould on ceiling. We all had a great time at the park and also in the waterpark. Meals in hotel very expensive and not that great. However breakfast was good. Better to go into Alton village and have a meal there. We had a delicious meal at the Bulls Head which was reasonably priced.
Not a bad experience overall
I have just returned from a stay at Alton Towers Hotel. Overnight stay was business not pleasure and was booked as part of a conference. Conference facilities great as was the lunch provided in the Secret Garden Restaurant. When I checked into my allocated room I found it already occupied and had to go back to reception. Inconvenient but quickly sorted. The second room was very clean and had a double bed and a bunk bed - obviously a family room. The TV did not work properly and the shower water was barely hot. Given that I spent little time in the room it did not bother me but I would be a bit fed up had I paid for the room as a holiday/break. The shower luxuries are lovely - imperial leather shower gel and bubble bath and it was nice to see proper mugs on the complimentary tea tray. All in all not bad but this really is a family/kids hotel and as a result the rooms are a little worn.
Not Bad/Not Great
My wife and i recently had an overnight stay and access to the park. Hotel room not bad, clean and ready on time but nothing brilliant. However beware we tried to eat at the Secret Garden restaurant terrible and awful springs to mind, very overpriced and service is poor, my advice would be take sandwiches. Would go back but only if there was another special offer £99 o/night stay, certainly not worth the full asking price somewhere in the region of £200 i don't think so.........
