We have been to Goa 15 times and stayed at the Osborne 13 times. Would not go to another hotel in Goa now. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Rooms are basic but clean. Beds and towels changed every day. We love it and have already booked for November this year. We are... more

Pleasant experience
I recently stayed at the Osborne II Hotel and enjoyed the simplicity and relaxed atmosphere. We were the first flight load of the season. The staff are very attentive, especially Sunni and Raj. I tipped my room staff 50RR at the end of my one week stay. Don't bother with the AIR CON! It's very expensive and not really needed in the cooler months - the ceiling fan is fine. The food in the hotel is well prepared and enjoyable - try the coconut pancakes for breakfast. Beware the pool Chlorine levels - very high - my fav. surf shorts went from white to neon green! The local pharmacy will sell you anything! Out on the side street! Avoid the AYUREOVIDIC massage centre - I found it a poor service. I would encourage anyone to take a cheap taxi each morning (agree price before departure) to a different beach - Aramboul(hippies) Mandolin, Candolin, Baga, and little Vaggator (1/2 Day) visit after Anjouna Market on the Wednesday. Check out the cliff top panoramic restaurant for lunch called the 'Alcove' before you descend the steep cliff face on to little Vaggator beach and watch out for the wandering cows... The Best beach shack on Baga/Calangute is the Big Banana with its Yellow livery - Michael does the best foot massage at 300RR. The Calamari shack (foodies heaven) on Candolin is GREAT. No charge for a sun lounger on most shacks. Always ask before you plop yourself down! For posh food in the evening 'Fiesta' in Baga is romantic and has beautiful food - £13 - (closed Tuesday). Well run establishment and has excellent staff. 100RR 5 min taxi ride away. 'After 7' Candolin, formerly 'After 8' is great for outside dining experience and cost £13 and serves great meats and wines. 150 RR 10 min taxi ride away. Tip - when dinning out stick to spirits & mixers as the are inexpensive - Wine will always triples the price of the meal.
Great Time at Osbourne
My friend and I stayed here feb / march 06 [ her 1st time to Goa ] -weboth feel that if you were to place a star rating for friendliness of the staff then it would be 5 star- without exception everyone was helpful for anything we required - yes the hotel itself is not the grandest but for a 2star hotel standards are quite good [ have stayed in 3 star with no difference to this hotel ] The location of the hotel is perfect in my view - near for the beach -some local shops - few local bars - plenty of taxis available either here or just up the road [ 1 minute away ] It is off the main Calangute / Candolim road so not much in the way of noise - and only a short ride by taxi [ 5 mins ] to centre of Calangute and shopping on the beach road . Pool and its surroundings are pleasant and although attentive and alert the staff do not " constantly "hassle you - would you like a drink ? - would you like to eat ? while relaxing -which I personally find annoying sometimes [ really overdone at the Nizmar and has put me off staying there again ] All in all this hotel although rooms are pretty basic [ but hey you only need to shower and sleep your not moving in permanantly - are you ? ] they really are adequate for a enjoyable holiday and the staff would be hard to beat - no hesitation about reccomending the Osbourne and will be back there in November 06 and again [hopefully ] in February 07 myself . Wherever you stay just enjoy all the many many delights that Goa and the Goan people offer - thats what its about isnt it ? Have a great holiday Bye
Re safety deposit boxes
We also were robbed in the Osborne and apparently its well known for this problem of items going missing from s/d boxes
Osbourne Hotel safety deposit boxes
Be very careful if you stay at the Osbourne Hotel and use the safety deposit boxes. Our friends had theres broken into after1st night, lost every thing Cash, Passports, Credit Cards, driving licences, and got no help what so ever from the proprioters, to see them they were never available, leave you to draw your own conclusions. They were there for 3 weeks and spent most of there time in Panjim with police, a waste of time it was.ut some good holiday makers helped them out. The Hotel offered them voucher for evening meal. They now stay at the Marinah Dourada where they look after you.
spot on again
have stayed in the osbourne for the last 3 years and want to return yet again will do it independantly this next year. the room boys are excellent clean towels and sheets daily which is all i ask as basic is ok clean a must. The reception staff were lovely , helpfull and polite. the security staff excelllent dont mind if you come in late!!!!!!!!!! move out of the hotel and go to Babutes bar on top Ganesh the best friend you could wish to meet , and it is the best people watching bar . love the people love the place. cant stop going
Disappointing!
We stayed at the Obsourne phase 3 a couple of years back and really enjoyed it so we decided to stay again. The rooms although basic were clean & good value for money, there was nightly entertainment a good pool and the staff were friendly. However this time we found it a completly different experience. This time we were placed in Osbourne Phase 1 (presumably because we didnt want pay extra for air conditioning). The rooms although clean were not of the same standard as phase III We found that some of the appartments had been sold off privately. Our neighbours were noisy one in particular had the TV full blast all night and until the early hours of the morning. We complained in all four times but nothing was done.
Wonderful Place
When I got to Goa I felt a little intimidated by all the people trying to help with our bags. If you say no very clearly they will leave you alone though. When we got to the Osbournes it was dark and the room looked very basic. When we awoke it was still basic but very comfortable. The room boys were very friendly and what they do with the towels is very special. the staff in the Osbournes III bar were very friendly and everyone seemed to love little children in a very genuine way. Although there is a lot of poverty (take sweets in your bag/pocket for the children begging on the street - never give money) the people seem happy with their lot and it makes an impact on your own life when you get home. As for local restaurants I would recommend the after seven - ask your taxi driver - and the sea shell in candolim. the stone house was ok but the food was a little bland. a great place for english food is the moonshine near the osbournes and the taxi driver who lives near there is very friendly - ask Raj the manager for Vickys taxi. I recommend a trip to Dudsaghar falls but don't expect the lagoon to be warm and remeber to take grapes and cashews with you. Don't automatically asume that the market will be cheaper than the shops handbags, wallets and magic boxes can be bought for next to nothing in Candolim. The only bad meal we had was at the sports bar in candolim. don't eat the duck!! Radley bags are very cheap along this road but check details on them first and don't buy from the first place you see them. you will want to return. I know I do.
great holiday
We just returned from Calangute what a wonderful place. On arrival I was very unsure wether I'd done the right thing going there,it wasn@t what I was used to you have to remember its an underdeveloped country don't expect 5* and you@ll be fine. The hotel was ok and the food was too. There are some good restaraunts one of which was called The Hibiscus on the road down to Calangute beach the welcome and the food cannot be beaten. The beach was the best I've ever seen there are great beach shacks with friendly people and good food. There are people on the beach selling things but if you say no they will go away but if you want to buy something they are very cheap,I bought lots of sarongs and kaftans, but make sure you haggle to get the best price its fun once you get the hang of it.I recomend the Saturday night market its great for shopping and there are live bands aswell it goes on most of the night great fun.also rickshaws are cheap and great fun for getting around we hired one for a day,he took us to Old goa,A spice plantation and other places it only cost us 700 rupes which is about£9.Anyway I could go on for ever there is so much to say but suficiant to say 2 weeks wasn't enough to see everything so next year we are going for a month.
loved it
this was my second yr running at the osborne hotel. w met some friends there in 05 for the first time an all booked together foe 06. it was r second time but their forth an what a great time we had. the osborne is a great location, fantastic staff, rooms are bacic but very clean which is all you need as a hotel is only a base as theres so much to do in goa. if going to the osborne you must go to zicos just outside the hotel as the food is fantastic an the family who run it are brilliant. say hello to mamma, zico .anthony, gracey and rambo and their children shan and shain, there lovely people, and will always make you wellcome. they wont close the bar till you have finnished. the staff at the hotel are all very nice people ad no job is too small for them they will do everything the can to make yur stay a pleasent one. i would highly recomend this hotel.james the manager is always there to help with any queriers you may have and gos around talking to everyone to make sure everything is ok. im goin back in 07 but will be staying at candolin for a change but will visit the osborne to see the staff and have a drink and to see are friends at zicos. hope this review was helpfull its a must.
