We have been going to the Osborne for 10 years (twice some years) and I cant fault it. I know it is basic, but what do you expect for the prices they charge. Goa is beautiful. The staff at the Osborne cant do enough for you and all Goans are very friendly. Zico's, just outside is a great eating place. We are going again this November. The only bad bit was MyTravel. The planes are much to cramped for a long haul flight. First Choice are much better. We are using them this year.

This was our first time in goa and the osbourne was great. I must admit at first it was culture shock and the first few days i spent getting over jet lag and getting used to goa as it is nothing like anywhere i have been before, the hotel itself was basic but very clean the room boys were great yes there was a metal wardrobe and a old fridge but remember it is india!! and they both did the job!!
The staff are so friendly and will do anything for you and i cant wait to go back and i will be staying at the osbourne again!!
I would reccomend anyone to stay there.
Also go to Daytrippers round the corner for your trips i reccommend the back waters boat trip we managed to see 5 crocs in the wild it was a great trip!!

Had a lovely time in Goa we stayed at the Osborne Phase 2 the room was basic and suited our needs as we were out every day on the moped which I recomend as we went all over the place to beaches which were great. The staff at the Osborne are great and cant do enough for you. We have booked to go back next Feb and are staying in phase 1 this time.
If you go you must go to After Seven you can get a great Steak and also if you can take pens pencils and pads over for the children instead of giving them money

no room ready when we got there. gave us a large room with seperate room with wardrobe but no bed air conditioning unit was in middle of the wndow so at night we culd not close the curtains so we had a room that had a bright light outside it was like daylight all night long if we pulled the curtains we could not put the air conditioning on.food was terrible,my husband ordered steak and got steak salad and gravy. he was ill the next day i ate by my self the next night and was ill all the next day. pool very small hardly any sunbeds . drinks were very expensive we drank in the bars down the road and drank all night for the price of one drink, road outside hotel very bumpy holey and smelly with no lights India is wonderful the people are really nice and friendly i would reccommend the country to everyone but not this hotel.

Stayed in the Osborne Hotel. Is a 2 star hotel but value for money. Rooms were clean and had all that we needed. Was placed in the Classic phase which was nice as had a quiet pool to sit by during the day but could use the other pools if wanted to. Only thing which is a bit of a con is that you have to pay for the air conditioning when you arrive, we needed it as was very hot at night. Suppose is a way of them getting extra money.
Waiters were in the whole very good. Have to be careful of the odd one as can look to add little things to drinks bill but most are very good, if a little slow but that is the Goan way.
There are so many good restaurants around the area that it is hard to include them all in here . I do suffer from a bad stomach at the best of times but only got a bad stomach once and doctor gave me some tablets to take which sorted it out straight away, just wish had called him on first day not third as wasted a couple of days.
We ate in what I would call good restaurants and it was only costing about £8-£10 for three course meal and drinks for 2 of us. Would have to recommend the restaurant After 7. Is a bit more expensive but worth it as the food quality is amazing. Is like a 5star ala carte restaurant but get good sized portions. Cost us about £20 for three course meal plus drinks for two of us. Recommend the fillet steak there as it is beautiful.
Jewellery is very cheap there so worth saving up some money and getting what you want. They can copy any jewellery from here so if find something here take a picture of it out with you and they will make it for you. Some other people we met also got glasses made which are meant to be very worth while. For the ladies you can get very good designer handbags out there which are cheap and cant tell that are copies. ( Radley, Jimmy Choo, D&G etc). Make sure have room in suitcase to bring them all back.
For returning home you need to make sure that your suitcases are not over weight as you get charged alot for it.
All in all Goa is worth visiting. The value for money is definitley up there with most countries in the world. It is no Maldives or exclusive resort but is definitly worth a visit. We will be back again.
Hope this has been of some help to people going for the first time.

BE WARNED STAY AWAY the hotel is a DUMP meatal cabanets for wardrobes when you whent into the swimming pool it turned you green ruined all our swimming gear. When you get your bill from the waiters check it they allways rip you off they add extra drinks on the bill thinking you caint remember because you had a couple of drinks. The room boys are the same taking drinks out of your fridge and charging you for them then when they come and ask for the bill and you pay them they never fetch the change back. Stay away from the theme nights they are rubbish. The food it was that bad you could not eat it. the best place for food and drink was ZICOS it is just outside of the hotel. Dont use the taxi drivers outside the hotel they rip you off get them outsie of babouts they are really good lads thney will look after you.

First visit to Goa and was so impressed I shall be returning in December this year. Stayed at the Osbourne and felt at home straight away. Although the hotel rooms are very basic they are clean with the sheets and towels changed daily by the very helpfull room boys who also made beautifull pictures on our beds with towels etc.
The waiters were very polite and helpfull ,nothing was too much trouble for any of them especially Raj (a right del boy ) Chris, Kanan, Sunhil and Roy just to name a few. We used the taxis based outside phase 1&2 Raymond, Paul and Sandeep who if we went further afield stayed with us at no extra cost or came back for us at the time specified.
Good places to eat are
EAST MEETS WEST
SWEET CHILLI
SEASHELLS
WHY KNOT, just to name a few and all reasonably priced.
All I can say is remember you are going to a third world country, don`t expect 5* standards and every one at the Osbourne keep up the good work and see you all soon.

Just got back from our Fantastic Holiday in Goa staying at The Osborne.
We have stayed there many times in the past and we have always had a fantastic time . Yes the hotel rooms are basic but very clean well maintained gardens and service second to non.
What makes our stay at the Osborne unforgetable? The very friendly staff from the Manager James who always finds time to talk to you, and nothing seems too much trouble. The waiter Raj, what can we say very friendley always very informative and on hand to assist keep the good work up Raj. Chris waiter always on hand excellent service polite and nothing too much trouble and finally Kanan friend of every one, very genuine person once again nothing too much trouble.
The room boys work very hard and always a smile and good morning sir
We would like to thank everyone for making our holiday unforgettable we will be back again next year. KEEP THE GOOD WORK UP.

My Husband and I have been staying at the this particular hotel for 7 years now and one year we stayed at the CSM in Baga (NEVER AGAIN as it was filthy and crawling with ants who have a nasty bite).
You have to remember you are travelling to a 3rd world country which is doing its very best to come up to standards and does not have the leisures that we are fully used to in the UK. Goa is a wonderful country and the people are extremely friendly and will do most things for you anytime of day and night.
The Osborne is a good hotel, basic although clean and tidy (maybe not to 4 & 5 * hotels standards anywhere else however still clean enough to stay in). The room boys change your towels and bed linen on a daily basis and lightly clean the rest of the room. Should you require more pillows, just ask, we do and receive them.
The pool in phase II is always busy and if staying there and you like sitting at the pool you will need to bring your towel down with you at breakfast to get a sunbed (I thought the Germans had invaded us one morning)... or either go to one of the other phases which is literally minutes away and probably a lot quieter.
You can visit ANJUNA market which is held every wednesday in ANJUNA and my advice would be to go early morning around 09.00a.m. as the sun comes up early and gets hot throughout the day. Also their is a market held on a friday in MAPSUA and a night market held on a Saturday known as mackies. this is where you can buy your "tat or gifts" for taking back home, much cheaper than some of the shops and remember to haggle with them all.
The food at the Osborne is not exactly edible and I do not blame this on the waiters as they are excellent with people although I do somewhat blame the chef... My husband ended up one night with sickness and Diahorrea after staying for the carnival night and we had to see a doctor to obtain some pills and lime salts, he did make a full recovery.
Over the years we have found the most fantastic restaurants and here are afew to assist you:
"After Seven" Calangute
"Souymen" Calangute
"Bernards in Baga"
"Maggies" Calangute
"Posh" in Candolim
"East meets East" Calangute
The taxi drivers who sit outside the Osborne Hotel have a set price therefore cannot charge you anymore money than you flagging a taxi down in the street. These guys will even be there early doors if you are travelling back to the aiport for an early flght and we have always found them to be extremely obliging.
Baga beach is the best and its only 100rupees to take you there in a taxi. Baga beach does have quite a lot of sellers who always come back and forward throughout the day. We also visited candolim beach which is a lot quieter and no sellers. Although be ware because we were carged 100 rupees for the front sunbeds at Bono's shack, despite no one mentioning this. Bono's shack is nice and has tiled floors in the shack and their toilets are excellent, much better than most.
Calangute has no night entertainment and only that what the hotel either puts on or you make yourself. Although in saying that there is TITO's nighclub which is in the hills and extremely noisy for the younger generation. The majority of peoplen who travel to GOA enjoy it or we wouldn't go back time and time again. Its good to see old friends and even make new ones and this destination gives value for money.
One more thing: there are beggars who rome the streets and please do not give them money no matter how sorry you feel for them as they are part of a bigger group and spend it on alcohol, they even rope in small children to beg for money.
I would recommend GOA to anyone however, I would also say that you have to be "open minded" as if its your first time you will probably be shocked when coming out of the airport however, when you get into the resorts its much better and that's what they cater for. Where else can you fly internationally to a hot destination and chill out for two weeks or longer for approx £500.
ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY AND KEEP SAFE. X

The only reason I have given this an 8 is because of Raj or Raj boy trotter we called him out to make a quick buck avoid at all times. That's the bad bit over with the rest is excellent rooms basic very tidy the room boys are in every day with clean towels and bedding they even take your laundry and have it back for the next day, I have very little to do upon my return. The other waiters are brill especially Roy and Sunhil two great blokes nothing too much for them. The grounds are kept clean by Babu whom we also took under our wing we soon found out he was fond of Pepsi but couldn't afford it so if we were about when he was knocking off we bought him his what we called his going home pop we he hid in his pocket to take back to his room. Reception staff were very polite and helpful and has I'm writing this they are just being made aware of the problem with Raj and are going to sort him out. My first time in Goa and this hotel the Osborne Classic and I will definately book again for this hotel nothing is too much for them.

It was our 1st time to Goa, We had 2weeks in the Osborne Classic (Phase one).
It is a DUMP please don't waste your money stay somewhere else so they get the message. It was by no means a cheap holiday to book and go there, getting the visa was a pain as the postal strike was on and the India website changed so you had to use an agent we chose one in Birmingham, it took six weeks!! They did arrive on the Wed but we were flying on the Sat(phew). After that we just looked forward to getting there. After the joke of an airport and visa queue (two people doing the stamping of the visa) then another 'official' checking it again. Getting your case from the 'helpful?' people at the airport who asked for a £1.00 as you found the 'coach' The driver saw me give the boy a pound and asked me to give him a pound as he was the driver. He probably deserved his £1 though as he told us not to sit on the back of coach as he had no suspension!!
We finally arrived at Osborne(Fawlty Towers) if it had not been a ten hour flight I would have gone straight back home! The flight was comfortable no complaints there. The room was awful like a concentration camp/prison. Bare rooms mattress 1 inch thick do not expect to get any sleep here, I even tried to sleep on the settee in the Living room it was just as bad. Just the general feel of the place was like a morgue, All the windows are frosted so the other holiday guests can't see how tired you are!! The reviews I read about the hotel were good and bad I was not expecting anything fancy,(Good job) But what I do expect is some standards. The fridge was older than me, the air con was included as was a full english as the rep told us we had paid for Classic breakfast. You try getting one they took 45 mins to bring anything!! We asked for two teas and every morning were given one tea one coffee mind you they both tasted awful. Yes the staff were friendly but they were pushy too. The garden boy watered the lovely gardens every morning including the electrical boxes on stem of the bush that the fairy lights were connected too!!. No wonder there were power cuts daily, mostly when you needed electricity, Think we were in the better part of Faulty Towers as people from phase two and three only got metal cabinets for wardrobes and were charged for air /con. We managed to get one breakfast in the two weeks we were there and then it was brought up the street from phase two were reception was. Cold and not worth waiting for.
One morning we just settled for boiled eggs as everyone who ordered them did not wait as long as us but then as we left and headed the scenic route (dirt track) to reception the waiters chased after me saying I had not paid for said eggs they were extra!!
The towels had foul vomit like smell to them (vile) what powder if any do they use? Eu de la Ganges me thinks. The so called lovely 'room boys' knocked at odd times to tell us they were day off or we needed to have mini bar paid/filled.They also knocked on our last day prior to depart this wonderful place. They were knocking so we would tip them before we left!! Why they thought they warranted a tip I don't know. It was by no means a pleasure to stay there. They did hang around when we were waiting for transfer, my husband gave them 500rupees only to be told there is another boy who also needed a tip I cannot repeat what he said. We are not mean but being asked for tips and then insulted when they thought you should give more?? Just cheeky!!
I also thought Raj was a creep on our first day my husband gave them large tip and they asked us to buy them beers,we did buy them but he did add on extra beers on the bill but also wanted a tip. Then he pestered us to buy tickets for Show, we told him we did not wish to go, but he would not give up,when we were going out he alway's wanted to know 'why we were not eat there??' I did not wish my food to be carried up the street. We did drink in phase two one night, they shut the bar at midnight I was glad really as I had spent the night watching a mouse run along the floor looking for food, inbetween the dirty glasses that had been left under tables, and I don't mean the beer bottles for the 'Mozzies'
To the Person who has stayed there eight times (WHY??) have they never travelled anywhere else in the world? do they not have standards?
As for the people who recommend Zico's yes you can have a late beer there if you wish to if you don't mind the Mozzies, (fourteen bites there in one night) and passing the poor lady asleep on a matress on the floor, via the kitchen where they carry on cooking as you pass through, to the one and only not too clean toilet!! they were the worst there out of all the bars. We did get a greasy cold breakfast there one morning that did'nt encourage me to want to eat there again.
We found if you pass Zico,s and turn left after the taxi gauntlet, there was a great bar there food delicious run by a couple from manchester clean toilets (Heaven).
Don't get me wrong I did enjoy Goa just not the hotel. We met a lovely couple from Glasgow they were also inmates they were in Phase three,They made our second week fun, Beaches are great ate in lot's of shacks Greggs being a favourite never got sick once.
Tips for any first timers:
Take a torch it is dark getting off the beach when the sun has gone down.
Alway's carry wet wipes as no hand washing facilities at most of shack toilets.
You have more chance of getting across the road if you are a local stray cow, be careful.
Don't bother with Coco Beach the shack our taxi driver took us to was fly infested, beach dirty, stunk of fish.
Do go to spice plantation and wash Jai Baba 40 year old elephant) Highlight of holiday.
Do go to candolim better than Baga and Calangute centre
Buy gold got lovely designs in baga jeweller corner of Tito night club street
Do go to After Seven restaurant lovely food and drink.
Do get clothes made
Do get eyes tested and cheaper than UK glasses.
Buy your cigarettes in airport £6.50 for 200.
Do not take lighter on flight home, they will take it off you, before you board ,you can still get a light in the smoking room at airport via an old car lighter attached to the wall, you can carry through a litre of water but not a lighter.
ladies do buy lot's of pashminas and leather bags.
PS. Thomas Cook flew us with Thompson fly plane no complaints, We were delayed 12 hours but they let us know evening before to stay at hotel which was good. At about 4pm they told us Thomas cook had faxed we could spend £15.00 at the hotel before we left so the witers were very excited told us to have anything on the menu!! One snag we were getting picked up at 6pm. So only 'snack menu available we thought we'd have fresh orange and two hawaii burgers the service was slow so we got items at 5pm The waiter was insistant we spend all the full amount, problem was there was not a great choice and did not have time to wait for anything else so the waiter added on meals and drinks for himself and the other staff including the chef! they made sure we signed to say we had spent it all in the pool bar, Thanks to our rep for going out of her way to let us know about the delay and we were not up and ready to go at 6am.

Goa,India is a fab place to visit there is so much to do,trips include a night in the jungle which i would recommend,a day trip on the river to see the crocodiles and other wild life and lunch on the boat belonging to Jake the Snake,an elephant ride through the jungle and the local people dressing you up in their native costume. The food in Goa is out of this world ,people are so friendly, visiting the local bars is a must the Goans make you so welcome,i have to include that ameneties are very basic but that is just part of the culture of Goa.The hotel Osbourne is very clean and friendly as is the hotel Aldeo Belo ,have stayed in both hotels and have made some very long time friends which i still keep in touch with.Ill be visitng Goa again for xmas and the new year im so looking forward to going,i have already contacted my friends in Goa to let them know that i am going back to see them.Again i would recommend this holiday to anyone who likes local culture and likes an adventerous holiday, but the beaches are also beautiful and very clean so you can also have a lazy holiday too if you wish.
