Having made previous attempts to stay in Finikounda we were very much looking forward to our week. We were not disappointed.
Sirius Studios were lovely, yes there was a little road noise but we found that in the evening the passing traffic (mostly walking traffic) very entertaining, and spent many a happy hour or two sipping a cold glass of wine from the very convenient supermarket next door, watching the world go by.
Nothing is far away in Finikounda. The locals were very welcoming.
The food in most of the tavernas was great. I can't remember the names of any in particular but we did enjoy a couple of very nice evenings at the Elena, perched above the main beach.
If you want a laid back, read a book, no hurry holiday then try Finikounda.

The Sirius apartments are definitely finished to a higher standard than most other self-catering accommodation in the same price range in the many Greek resorts that we have visited. After holidaying in Greece – usually twice a year – for 24 years, we have at last found an apartment where we had guaranteed hot water: not only every evening but in the mornings too. A big fridge but the usual limited 2-ring cooking facilities if one really is self-catering.
If one holidays in the smaller Greek resorts, one is bound to be close to a road; a school; a bar; taverna; or some other feature that will generate noise. Concrete buildings bounce sound which does exacerbate even some quieter noise. For us, the road noise was not intrusive; after a sociable evening out, we both slept well. Even the adjacent church bells at 0710, 0800, 0905 on Sunday morning didn’t spoil our stay – one didn’t need an alarm clock to wake in time for the return-to-home coach.
As for emptying bins – ours were emptied twice a week during our stay but, on occasion, we found it no inconvenience to take the odd item across the road to a communal bin: we certainly wouldn't have lived with a smelly bin in hot weather.
The main supermarket (not stocked as well as the mini markets in the main street, we thought) is conveniently right next door. As others have said, the beach, shops, bars and tavernas are no more than a few minutes walk away.
We had a meal at all of the tavernas and found the food good to excellent in each. The local specialty seems to be pig-on-a-spit or roast pork and most served generous portions on at least one evening a week. Most of the tavernas are actually on the beach, so one doesn’t have to walk far for lunch.
Our only disappointment was having to wait over 50 minutes from placing our order to getting our food at To Stecki. For us, definitely not “the place”, especially as three other tables had been served, even though arriving after us.
Like everyone else, we found Finikounda to be a delightful spot for the most relaxing un-hassled holiday. I’m sure that we will return.

Finikounda is a lovely place but don't stay at these studios. They are charm less concrete boxes positioned on the main road in and out of the village so trucks, motorbikes and cars thunder by day and night. The Kosmar reps were not sympathetic and said they could not move us so we found (and paid for) our own alternative accommodation - an expensive solution but better than a miserable week's holiday. Finikounda is lovely though - we ended up at the Korokakis Beach Hotel which is right on the beach and very quiet.

Road noise! What a disappointment as Kosmar does not comment on this in the brochure, every night we were disturbed by road noise, both bikes and cars.
We spoke to most people staying in this accommodation and everyone complained about the road noise and the fact it was not mentioned in the brochure. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and the staff very friendly.
But unfortunately the bin for putting the dirty toilet paper in was only emptied once in seven days, not acceptable in such heat. The accommodation was conveniently situated for bars, tavernas and the beach.

This is the best resort without doubt that is not too far for a complete chill out holiday. The people are wonderful, the children still have that innocence that unfortunately no longer exists in the UK. When I asked if there were any safe deposit boxes, I got the reply there are no Police here.
At first I was reluctant to do this as I don’t want to spoil such a beautiful place. Everything was within 5 minutes walk i.e. the beach, the Tavernas, the few bars and the small number of shops.
The surprising thing for me was that you could get the same day UK newspapers, that is assuming you wanted to know what was happening. I personally didn’t and didn’t want to spoil my break.
Kosmar are a good company and definitely look after you if you have any problems or queries.
I would highly recommend this resort to anyone who wants to get away for a quiet holiday.

My husband and I have stayed at this accommodation three time and we think it is fantastic accommodation. Very clean, bins emptied twice weekly bedding and towels very clean.
It is convenient for the supermarket and tavernas, even the church. This is a fantastic little village [a piece of heaven].
Over the time we have visited Finikounda we have eaten at almost all the tavernas but our favourite was the last one near the Finisia Hotel.
My only grouse for 2007 is that there is no flight to Kalamata from Newcastle.
