Food awfull
I have just returned from the tobago at palma nova but really feels you are in magaluff. So many young people there that are so roudy and i dont know what to put about the food if was soooo bad. When we booked it i read all the reports regarding the food and took in to consiteration that the spanish stop there so thought must be good, but being english you may as well not of been there. They dont cater for the British the only thing they think we eat is chips, so there was chips for breakfast also dinner. I must say the view was great from the room we stopped on the top floor with a seaview but the lift was always breaking down and we got stuck in it , i must say they didnt hurry up! If you dont mind bad food or sleepness nights this is the one for you as they say you get what you pay for and you do in this hotel. There was one good thing the maids were nice we did see them everyday!
Excellent for our short break
Stayed at the Hotel Tobago on a 2 night trip to Magaluf. There were 18 of us on a hen weekend. Everyone had a fab time and have to say the staff were really friendly to us. Try out the cocktails in the bar - Coco Loco was my fav! The hotel itself isn't anything special but it suited our needs right down to the ground, nice bed & clean bathroom. And plus what more do you want for a 3 star hotel. We are going back to Magaluf next March for another girly weekend. This time we're staying for 3 nights and yes, we're going back to the Hotel Tobago.
Great short break hotel!
I went to the Hotel D'or Tobago with my boyfriend last week. We wanted to be able to visit the nightlife of Magaluf without having the noise at night. This hotel offered us a good quality room with cooking facilities and a fridge but no air con, and only a 5 minute walk from the start of the main nightlife. The main "square" (where BCM and Coyote Ugly bars etc were) is about a 15 minute walk (or 20 minute stumble!) The hotel has quite a few rooms overlooking palmanova beach which is always a bonus. There is a supermarket opposite the hotel which is handy for little bits and bobs. We went half board and were impressed by the range of food available. The breakfast was substantial enough that we didnt eat until dinner time. Dinner was mainly chicken and chips, pasta, soups etc. Not amazing but for what we paid it was perfect! If you decide to buy a bottle of wine with your meal and don't finish it, they will cork it for you so that you can enjoy it the next night. bless. All in all I would reccommend this hotel for families, groups of young people and couples. There's something for everyone!
cant complain
just got back after a 4 day stay at the tobago with friends, overall well satisfied, top location, food was ok,price we payed was cheap as chips so you cant complain.
Right next to the beach
Stayed in the Tobago June 2006, cant really fault the hotel. The room was spotless, the bathroom was clean and the shower worked well. We paid to watch the television for 2 days, which only had 3 English speaking chanels. The view from our balcony was brilliant. The sea breeze kept our apartment nice and cool, we never used the air conditioning. I have to mention the noise, which was a bit loud but was occasional rather than constant, maybe it was because of the football. Its a bit hard to believe that Magaluf was only around the corner, and as we drove in through the one way system the town was filled with young beer drinkers and clubbers, I was wondering if we were coming to the right place. We arrived at the Tobago with not a drinker or clubber in sight. It was quiet and you could hear the waves from the sea. The food was good, lots to choose from, best to arrive at the restraunt earlier to avoid queues. Although the mealls were very similar, lamb chops, chicken wings, burgers, pork balls, raviolli, potatoes, veg, chips, great salad bar, cooked meats and cheese, ice cream, fresh fruit, gateau, cake and biscuts. Full English breakfast in the morning, cereals, boiled eggs, toast, and chips! I would definately consider coming here again and bringing my son, Im sure he would love the pool as it was quite empty, I guess everyone was on the beach which was only about 30 metres from the hotel entrance. Loadsoif little shops and supermarkets to buy the little extras. The bar is expensive, I took my own small bottle of coke to pool. I must mention there are no tea or coffee making facilities, we brought our own travel kettle and kept the milk cool in a sink filled with water, although I think we only made two cups. In the moring you can help yourself to as much tea, coffee, capuccino, fresh orange, milk. There are no activites for small children although there is a small childrens pool. Need to mention also that the staff are lovely. Hope this helps, I would rate this hotel 8/10 good value for money
Hotel spoilt by noise
We have just stayed here for one week half board. The food was very good with a good choice of fruit and vegetables. Our room on the 7th floor had an amazing view of the bay with entertainment provided by waterskiers and various boats. The room was spotless and good size. The television is mounted very high on the wall, I didn't see it when I first walked into the room and it would give you neck-ache to watch it. There are no programmes unless you pay about 3 euros per day, we didn't bother. The excellent main beach was just across the road, the pool wasn't very big and not very safe for children. Although it is in Palma Nova it is on the edge of Magaluf, which I did not realise when I booked. There was a lot of shouting in the street outside in the early hours of the morning and some guests came in singing and crashing about. The sliding doors onto the balcony are not double glazed so you can hear every sound outside even if you are high up. I think the hotel could do more to keep the noise down inside. The bar has very loud disco music most nights until midnight when it stops but you get a loud crash later when they dump the bottles in a skip. The entertainment nights were very disappointing. The majority of the guests seem to be older couples and young couples with children plus a few grandparents. The hotel did not cater for these age groups. The hotel has a small carpark behind but it is difficult to find it with the one-way streets if you arrive with a hire-car.
Just the ticket !
Stayed at the Tobago for the second year running for a short cycling holiday with friends and found the hotel to be an ideal choice bearing in mind the price paid.We all had a very good single room & in fact all had twin beds !.Good views of the beach and no problem with taking bikes up to the rooms via lifts which we rarely had to wait for. Great choice of food (hot & cold).Plenty of hot water & towels. All in all March is a great time to visit the area which is no doubt seen at it's best before the rush of tourists.
Tobago or not Tobago??
We booked a Valentines short break through a letting agency. The price was extremely cheap. We had saw the tobago on a previous visit to Palma Nova, so knew of its location. We then read the reviews and our hearts sank. We are not used to 4 or 5 star hotels so we were not expecting that sort of standards. We were taken aback with the descriptions of the food and the staff. When we arrived at the hotel we'de already decided that we knew enough of Palma Nova to be able to find suitable places to eat other than the hotel. We arrived at the hotel midmorning and were greeted by extremely helpful staff. The entrance to the hotel is extremely immaculate. Nice water feature just outside the door. Really pleasant and clean decor in the reception with endless amounts of soft seating. We went to our rooms, which again was spotless and extremely well heated. Absolute fantastic view of Palma bay from the balcony. From what we could tell, all rooms in the hotel had views of the bay. We had booked half board, so come teatime thought we'de give the evening meal a try. The restaurant was extremely nice, clean with polite staff greeting us at the door.We looked down the buffet dinner, there was a full range of pastas, cold meats, veg, salads, breads, rolls, a choice of 2 hot soups which were excellent. There was a choice of lamb cutlets which were hot and cooked brilliantly. There was roast chicken portions again very hot and very good. There was also chicken pieces in a sauce, extremely tasty. There was a choice of hot vegs, potato friiters and chips. Had to be one of the best hotel meals we have ever had in the past 3 years since we started going abroad, and in 9 different hotels. For dessert there was a full range of fresh fruit, 4 flavours of ice cream, gateaus, cakes, all in all was an excellent meal. Following morning we went for breakfast. There was a choice of cereals, fruit, meats, cheeses, salads, rolls, bread, croissants plus a choice of various breakfast cakes. And then the biggest surprise of the lot was bacon.fried/scrambled/boiled eggs. Bacon sausages, beans and also chips and hash browns and spanish omelletes. Unless this hotel has had a major shake up since the last reports were listed, i think the other writers must have gone to a different hotel. And of course what didn't come as a surprise to us, as Majorca is in spain, Yes there were Spanish people about!! And as we don't speak a word of spanish i have no doubt they may have thought we were quite ignorant and rude. The food was that good that we even scrapped the idea of going out to a reataurant for our Valentines special meal, and ate in the hotel Tobago. All in all, 1st class hotel, 1st class staff, and 1st class food. We will certainly be going there again very soon. If you would like any more information about the hotel and surrounding areas please feel free to email us on rodeeming@btinternet.com Rod/San.
Not great at Tobago
Me and my partner stayed at the tobago in September 05. It does have some good points but mostly i was very unimpressed and quite annoyed by the staff. The Hotel is ok, the rooms are adequate and its in a fantastic location, we loved being so close to the beach though we did stay by the pool in the hotel for most of the time. lots of sun loungers and the pool was lovely at this time of the year. I would recommend if staying purchasing ice drinks from the bar to have beside the pool - lovely in over 30 degrees! Its a shame that the food and staff let us down otherwise I would really recommend this hotel, very cheap and cheerful! The food was disgusting, it was the same thing every night! And the breakfast was just awful! I think I must of lost a lot a weight cause I didnt want to eat any of it! The staff were ignorant, they hate English people and boy did they show this!! they would ignore me and talk to other spanish guests, even shoving me out of the way on one occasion! If you are not easily offended by rude spanish people and not fussy about food this hotel would be excellant for you!
Getting worse!
I returned to the Hotel Tobago in November, 10 months after I first stayed there. The room was okay, same standard as last time, but the food was alot worse! On two consecutive nights nothing was edible apart from the chips! The smell of the food cooking is foul and it gets evrywhere in the hotel, even on the 7th floor! I would not return again, simply because of the standard of food and the lingering smell!
