We just returned from one week in Malta. This hotel does not know the meaning of "Vegitarian".Reception offered Egg Omlette or Pasta. It took me five days of pestering the Chefs to get roasted vegitables, Vegitables with rice and on last day Peppers stuffed with vegitables.
Breakfast was monotonous. No change the whole week. At dinner time, same salad, same sweets every third day, and one items change in "meat".
Staff works hard, long hours, same person does three different jobs in the day.
Reception was most disappointing, without being rude, plain unhelpful, and to answer an inquiry was like too much trouble.
I would not rate the hotel four star.

I stayed at this hotel in mid January, but frankly, before going out there, I was a little concerned about what I'd seen on Hotel review sites.
I suppose that many of the reviews were expressed up to the third quarter of last year. From then, the hotel has gone through a major refit, and certainly, there is an air of quality around the building. My worries soon evaporated!
Above all, Housekeeping standards are very high, whether in the public areas or in the bedrooms. Reception was efficient at all times, and overall, the staff were well organised and nothing was too much trouble. I ate in the Restaurant every day for both Breakfast and Dinner, and whilst it is true to say the hotel will never win awards with its food, what I saw and ate was of good quality, with well presented, hot and very palatable meals.
Unfortunately, some people have complained on here, albeit at the same time as I was staying at The Crown Hotel. They must have been at a different hotel, as I'd no trouble at all with hot water and such like.
I don't have any vested interest in this hotel, in case any cynics think otherwise! However, I spent over 25 years in Hotel Management achieving the level of General Manager, so in many cases, I can see the problems from both sides.
Unfortunately, the average "Brit abroad" usually has a complaint, but falls into the usual rant, and can only see the negative aspects but never the positive ones!
In short, The Crown Hotel has had a chequered past; it is in much better hands now and deserves to go forward. Certainly, amongst the other guests when I was there, they were full of praise for the Hotel,

Sep 2010, Bea

Went to this Hotel in march 2010, it was totally disgusting... we arrived off the flight and rooms was not even ready. When we finally got the key the room was dirty. There was Pubic hairs was in the bathroom from the Saturday that we arrived until the Tuesday when I finally complained to the Manager. The showers are not even big enough, the door drop off ewhen trying to get in and out. The Service is not what one expects.
I am surprised that this Hotel is still being booked on the website. The place is not fit to live in.
The Pool could not be used and was closed off with loads of plastic chairs.
The only good thing was the dining and food service.

just back from the crown hotel in malta!11th aug.10.i would rate this hotel at 2star or less.breakfast was bearable.but evening meal was appauling.my son became ill.so we ate out.the rest of holiday.shower in room had dirt ingraned in edges of sliding doors, you could hardly stand in shower,it felt like it was going to burst the shower tray!and land in room below!no outlook from patio door, you look into the hallways!the indoor pool is a joke,it 4foot wide, not that we had to use it.rooftop pool quite nice but sun beds ,most are broken.thing hotel do there shopping at local lidls.you ask for a coke, and you get cheap nasty cola from a bottle thats been lying with the lid off, then charge you 1.30.euro.!showers at the gym and sauna are floode on floor, sinks and showers are filthy. there ive let everyone know.malta itself was beautifull.

First of all the Crown Hotel has a 4* rating but in all truth it should be 2*
the rooms are really basic our shower was falling to bits the shower base was cracked and split and had to be repaired in a double room there was only room for one chair some of the lights were faulty which was important because the room was dingy The Hotel gym, splash pool and jacuzzi were closed for for supposed update. The breakfasts were of poor standard and the evening meals were good choice of sweet was very limited. the only redeeming thing about the Crown Hotel was the staff who were friendly and helpful.
I have passed my complaint on to Mercury Direct who declined to award any compensation and urged me to visit again when they assure me I will be satisfied. I don' think so

From the minute I set foot on Maltese...

From the minute I set foot on Maltese soil, I was spoiled rotten and well taken care of. Good job as the tour operator's rep was worse than useless and, because of his inefficiencies, I came incredibly close to missing my flight back to the UK and ended up having to pay for a taxi to get me to the airport, despite having pre-paid for one through the tour operator!
The Maltese will say "You either love Malta or you hate it". I loved it and could feel myself de-stressing by the second. Everyone is genuinely friendly and helpful and that goes for every single member of staff at this hotel. The food was more than excellent and the selection very varied. If you wanted any special diet (vegetarian, etc) and you didn't want what was on the menu, all you had to do was tell them what you wanted and it would be prepared for you.
The rooms are very comfortable and clean. You must be prepared for a lack of views - but then, why do you want to stay in your room. Wonderful views are just down the road. If you don't want to stay in the hotel to listen to the entertainment (live almost every night), EVERYTHING you could possibly want it a very short walk away.
I travelled alone and am disabled but the uphill trek really wasn't a problem providing I took things steadily and there are plenty of public benches that you can rest on and enjoy the fabulous views.
The local brew, a premium lager called "Cisk" (pron. Chisk) is incredibly refreshing and needed in the heat.
The whole of this lovely island is within easy travelling distance and it's well worth trying different ways of travelling, i.e. get the bus to a market town and the ferry back.
I cannot wait to go back and plan on returning to the Crown.
