Astoria Hotel

We stayed in a small, friendly town called vicco viccenza - it was about two or three train stops from Sorrento. The town was ideally placed because it was halfway between the top tourist sites of Sorrento in one direction and Herculaneum, vesuvious and Pompeii in the other direction.
The choice of restaurants was good in vicco viccenza - the food was great and cheaper than in Sorrento.
The hotel was located close to the train station and we had no trouble with noise. our room was compact but we were compensated because we had a fabulous view of vesuvious.
Vicco viccenza has two beaches which was great, unlike Sorrento, so we beached for half a day and touristed the other half.
Herculaneum and Pompeii are well worth a visit but allow a day for each and take plenty of water with you. we also took a cable car over the forest with spectacular views.
The bus ride to amalfi from Sorrento is great fun, get the boat back for a different view of the coastline.
The best ice cream was at the ferry pick up point in possitano.
