I stayed at the Plevna for a week in April 2010 the staff
were great apart from the cook he or she should be fired,
the food was inedable,I spent one day in bed with food
poisoning.
When I was there the pool and spa area was closed due to building work.
the hotel is in a good area for tours and the ferries.

Thank god for the staff!! The staff are wonderful and we wish we could say the same for the hotel. We changed rooms three times- along with other guests. The reception staff have a very difficult job- everyone wanting to change rooms. The hotel has not been fully... more

We have just returned from the Hotel Plevna and at the best we rate it as a two star. The Beach Club stopped serving Pizza and Chicken nuggets the day after we got there. My son who is fourteen was not amused at this. The acting Manager told me to take him to one of the... more

I have horrid memories of this hotel. Travelled with friends for a month long winter holiday but the temp seldom got above 11degs at noon, even the locals wore fur collared full-length coats. The air conditioning in our room smelt decided sickening and the patio doors had... more

Good Value
Stayed here for a week in November. I had mixed feelings because of the previous reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. Yes, this is an older hotel (possibly a couple joined together!) so everything is not brand new, but everything in my room was serviceable and there were no safety issues. Room cleaning was to a high standard every day. I was on an all inclusive deal at £299 for a week and could not fault the quality and quantity of food available as well as the 'free' bar with an extensive all inclusive range. They even left sandwiches and water in the room for my late night arrival as well as a good supply of tea and coffee. Staff were all friendly and helpful.
Enjoyed Our Stay
Very conveniently placed hotel - away from the main roads and thus pleasantly quiet. Would certainly go again. However, perhaps some maintenance ought to be undertaken especially in some parts of the hotel ex. the lift which gives the appearance of neglect. Room cleanliness is not what it should be and the ladies involved in this job ought to be told of this All in all good hotel - receptionists extremely helpful T. VIGAR
Very clean but poor state of repair
On arrival we were very pleased with the location, although a little way from the nearest bus stop. The lobby area is very bright and clean but there are steps everywhere, ok for us but not if you have difficulty walking. We had paid an additional £30 per week for a balcony room with a view. The room was tiny, not really a problem but it also smelt of wet rags, the bathroom light had live wires hanging out over the sink, the walls were in a terrible mess with plaster off and the balcony looked out on an appartment complex. I spoke to the receptionist who told me that the manager would come and see me as this was the nicest room they had - the manager never did appear in the 24 hours we were there. The pool is a short walk (on a hill) from the hotel. It was disgusting, the floor of the pool complex is dirty, chipped and downright dangerous. It is located on rocks by the sea however there is only a very flimsy picket fence between you and the rocks below. One wrong step and you've had it, we dont have children if we had there is no way I would let them in the pool area. The actual water in the pool was clean however the sun beds were so filthy that I could not bring myself to use them. We stayed one night and left. There are no fire escapes and only one set of stairs in the middle of the hotel therefore if there is a fire in the corridor your only way out is over the balcony or out of a window. Considering the state of the wiring and general up keep we decided one night was enough. The food and resturant was good and staff were pleasant (apart from one receptionist who was downright rude), and the cleanliness of the entire hotel was very good. If you are a backpacker and just need a place to crash then its probally ok, it is certainly not worth the nearly £500 per week that I paid!
Loved Malta not so sure about Plevna
My husband and i have never been to Malta before, we will return but not i fear to the Plevna Hotel . We paid extra for a balcony when we placed the booking on the telephone when we arrived we discovered the balcony was only just wide enough to squeeze and i mean squeeze a patio chair in each side (but dont stretch your legs ) . The room was clean but very small with not big enough drawers for 2 adults clothes the wardrobe was unstable . Very nice to have use of hairdryer and small unstocked fridge . The staff were very helpfull and friendly the food was pleasant enough with cooked english breakfast available every day but unfortunately no variety in the selection of bacon/sausage/scrambled egg/beans/tomatoes . The fruit juice was the worst i have ever tasted and i never saw any one go back for more on their second day !! . The lido was in a very good position with views over the sea the area was in need of a lick of paint but generally looked ok . All the building work around the general area does spoil the overall experience but this does seem to be the same over most of Malta.
Plevna - value for money......
Just returned from a weeks All Inclusive stay at the Hotel Plevna. When judging the value of any thing you buy, you always keep in mind the price paid. In simple terms the hotel is value for money. The rooms, though not spacious, have great air conditioning, fridge, hair dryer etc. But above all, they are clean - and are cleaned to a high standard daily. The restaurant, whilst not having a massive choice of food is reasonable. The hotel pool / snack bar is about 2 minutes walk away, it has a varied lunchtime/snack menu. It serves some great pizza's, pasta, burgers etc. In truth, more enjoyable than the restaurant. If you are looking to be entertained, then I suggest you go out. All in all, value for money.
plevna was quiet but friendly
the plevna did exactly what we needed- a central base to explore from that was comfortable and clean. it is close to the ferry for valletta and a short walk up the coast into st.julians. don't know about lunch and dinner as we ate out but breakfast was fairly standard stuff, english and german staples.the staff were all lovely and we slept like babies as the beds were comfy. decor was time warp-esque in places but who cares when the sun is shining?
First and wont be the last
The hotel was clean and comfortabe with t.v and fridge at no extra cost. Room nothing special but ideal for a base for getting around Malta. All inclusive with a good selection of Food, snacks and drinks with the staff in the bar and the restaurant always cheerful and helpful. Close to shops and promenade where it was easy to get local buses around the island for 20p. Loads to see and very good fun to get on all the old buses. The only fault with the hotal was the lack of entertainment at night unless you enjoyed watching football or the music channel on t.v., and don,t feel this is for kids as nothing for them to do. I really enjoyed my stay at the Plevna and will return in the future.
Loved the room decor
Not knowing what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised to find this was a comfortable hotel which is very conveniently located. We have been to Malta many times and in fact are now on a long stay there in a flat. We made the Plevna our base whilst looking for a flat and found it superior to many of the 3 star hotels we had stayed in before. Not suitable for disabled guests due to some stairs in public areas but otherwise room was very appealing with fridge, TV kettle and hairdryer. Great hot & cold buffet breakfast and nice food for dinner. Staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help when we had a problem. As it rained quite a bit in January we spent alot of time relaxing in the lounges in the hotel and met many other guests who visit the hotel once or twice yearly.
'Disappointed with The Plevna'
We have just returned from a weeks All Inclusive holiday staying at The Plevna Hotel in Sliema. The positive features of this hotel are friendly staff, good food, clean sheets, nice bar and lounge area. The negative features are small bedrooms which were not swept before or during our stay although maid service daily, foul smelling lift, poor evening entertainment unless you like football(shown on a big screen in bar), dirty rooftop sun terrace (Our 2 friends had soot spots on their towels and clothes from the hotel chimney, although hotel did send these to the cleaners), Beach Club not open--this was situated across the road from the hotel and was in such a state it looked as if it hadn't been open for years. It was unsafe with just a thin rope between it and the sea. It would not be suitable for families with children. Even if the Beach club had been open we would not have used it as it was filthy! When we asked why it was not open we were told because of the weather/safety--the weather was brilliant while we were there! The photographs of the beach club in the brochure make it look stunning--I can assure you it is not! ( Info in brochure states open April till October depending on weather) We will be returning to Malta again as the Maltese are such friendly people but will not be staying at The Plevna Hotel.
Management response from A TripAdvisor Member 19 Apr 2006

Please note that our beach club is only open from May to mid-October, weather permitting. In mid-Oct 05 a couple of bad storms caused alot of damage to the beach club and the photos taken reflect that damage. The beach club had in fact been closed for two weeks when the photos were taken. Every Spring, the beach club is in fact refurbished in readiness for the summer season.

Nice people, shame about the hotel
I didn't book this hotel, but was "bumped" for 3 nights from the hotel I did book. Lovely people working in the hotel, but - the bathroom door had been kicked in and could not be shut. The back of the kettle plug was missing, exposing live wires, 2 out of the three lifts did not work at all, the remaining lift only working intermittently.
