Having read other reviews I was...
8 / 10
Aug 2005, Mr R Humphreys

Having read other reviews I was worried about holidaying at the Crowne Plaza, but on arrival there was no building work close by. Yes there building on the Tinge fort site at the end of the point overlooking Valletta but nothing as close as 50metres!!! probably somebody had a few!!!
The Crowne Plaza is listed as a 5* hotel but more like a good 4* the rooms are spacious and clean as are the public areas, the breakfasts are amazing, so much choice fresh fruits, melons, hams cheeses, breads, rolls, and everything for a fry up-eggs to order or omelettes? potatoes toms beans + several German sausages and Maltese dishes really quite filling. There are three other restaurants dotted around the hotel, The big blue a-la-carte evening restaurant serves v.good fresh fish, The pizza place speaks for itself and the four seasons main restaurant with international dishes, the swimming pool is excellent with enough sunbeds for all and an area recovered for adults to sunbathe.
The thing to remember is that the Crowne Plaza is not a holiday resort more a business hotel with added extras which caters very well and due to it s situation close to Silema and Valletta the hotel does accommodate business men (and women!) and sometimes large delegations(large party from china whilst we stayed) but if all fits in rather well. Don’t knock it till you've tried it!!!!! and Yes we will be returning in 06.

My husband and myself booked a 10 day...
6 / 10
Jun 2005, Mrs S Renshaw

My husband and myself booked a 10 day holiday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Three days prior to our departure, we saw a report from a guest who had just returned complaining about the noise and dust from the building site adjacent to this hotel. We decided to continue with our holiday because we were assured by the tour operator that the work did not affect the hotel in any way.
Unfortunately, the site is only about 50 metres from the boundary of the hotel. When we arrived on the Sunday all was quiet but on Monday at 7.00 am the diggers and cranes started. There was dust flying everywhere and it was very noise.
We were lucky, we got moved to another hotel as we were not prepared to stay at the Crowne Plaza and Malta Direct arranged to have us moved. We were not entirely happy with our move as we could not be allocated a room with a very good view but it was far better than the building site view at the Crowne Plaza.
If you are thinking of going there, think twice and check it out. It is not cheap and if you are anything like myself and my hubbie, you do not expect this from a holiday hotel - after all. the idea of a holiday is to relax and have some peace and quiet and this we could not do at the Crowne Plaza.

We booked our holiday independently....
10 / 10
Aug 2004, Mrs S Tomkins

We booked our holiday independently. Our flights with British Airways via Airmiles and the Crowne Plaza hotel direct on their website.
We spent the first few days staying with relatives on Gozo and then moved back over to Malta for a bit of independence. The Crowne Plaza hotel was EXCELLENT. It is a 5 star hotel and the reviews we read before we went were mixed. However, we found it to be very good. The room we had was very large (although some were smaller). We had two large double beds and an extra 'rollaway' bed was supplied on request (to save our two children sharing).
Staff were helpful and the breakfast was to die for (this was included in our rate ... but be careful if booking as different options are available and they do not always include breakfast). Bear in mind that, if you do not book the 'breakfast included' option it will cost you an additional £8 - £10 per person!!!
Accommodation on Malta is usually a good 1 - 2 stars lower in English terms than its official star rating. This is probably due to generally lower standards of building/decor in such countries. However, we felt that the Crowne Plaza lived up to its 5 stars - it was well furnished, had good facilities and the service was generally professional and good. The pool was lovely and free towels were provided every day for the pool as well as the bathroom!
Booking our holiday independently proved to be considerably cheaper than a package holiday. Flights for 4 with airmiles were only £550 and the hotel (which we only booked 8 weeks before departure) was only £60 per night for a 'family' room - including four sumptuous breakfasts!. The reservation we made could also be cancelled up until two days before we were due to arrive!
We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and the independent style of travel!
