Lara Apartments

Hi,
I have just come back from Hotel Lara,what can I say about this place.....hummm well every morning there was the same discusting breakfast, I resorted to a plate full of scrambled egg every day for a week, and the lunch and tea was moderately better. One night we were supprised to have a piella if thats how you spell it,and lapped it up as the discusting concoctions of sprout made pasta and unlimited supply of hotdogs just didnt cut the mustard. For seven days both myself and my friend survived on eggs for breakfast, chips and cheese for both lunch and tea, dare I say Im officially off the stuff forever now. This is not all inclusive, and to top it off the waitress with the blonde hair had the most rudest service and never cracked a smile... All week I had to cope with a letchy waiter aswell, you have to laugh but seriously not good enough........
On a happy note, the cleaners were lovely, and the sunshine was fab.The hotel rooms were fine, but its a 40min walk to the beach so best jump in a taxi.

This review is a brief summery of my "holiday" as dont want to go in to detail and bring back horrid memories
hygine so poor an infestation of cockroaches, food bland horrible, everything discuised with a dark sauce and the smell of garlic god knows what was in it but i wasnt prepared to find out!!! the food was the same everyday! all inclusive drinks very basic and taste nasty! no entertainment, rude staff, bed sheets dirty and didnt get changed!! i have no plus side to this hotel at all and would stay well clear!!!! pure filth!! :(

On arrival at Lara Apartments we were greeted with a very pushy receptionist who, just passed us a key, gave a quick description of where the apartment was.
The apartment was okay just very basic. We realised the next day that we had been placed in Nido Del Aquila Apartments not, Lara. We pointed this out to reception that we had booked Lara Apartments with a sea view not, Nido Del Aquila that had cockroaches and a brickwall for a view. Just to be fobbed off. Probably should have stood my ground more and asked to speak to Manager. So watch out as it occurs regularly. Lara Apartments are cleaner and brighter. The dining area is very cramped more like a canteen. Food edible just but, bland coupled with quite a few flies lurking around. Lucky if you escape a dodgy belly. Staff as miserable as sin.

I appreciate that this holiday was rather cheap and we were not expecting 5 star but i would never go back to this hotel again. We arrived late evening and there was no one to welcome us so we stood wondered what we were supposed to do for 10 minutes until the barmen gave us our keys, he didn’t actually know which was our apartment so myself and 4 friends dragged our suitcases up the stairs and managed to find our rooms on our own. We were in the Lara Apartments which say are for 2-3 people but 2 people are plenty. We only had 2 beds, 2 towels, 2 sets of bedding, when asking reception for some towels and bedding we were told we would have to wait till morning. Nothing like travelling all day and then not be able to shower. The 3rd bed was a hard wooden 'sofa' with a thin mat and no bedding. Our boiler made loud rumbling sounds for 5 minutes every time we flushed the toilet and there was no air-conditioning.
The first evening we were kept awake till 4am by the apartment next door to ours from shouting, screaming and people messing about - the 'security' on the site was nowhere to be seen and no one on reception. There was then a massive argument outside our front door due to some of the residence having a dispute which was seconds away from a fight breaking out, as 3 girls on our own we found this incredibly intimidating and scary and there was no hotel phone to call reception and again no security to step in. After no sleep we waited in reception from 8am, along with another family who had the same complaint as us. The staff were rude, unhelpful and brushed off our complaint and did not seem to care that this happened on their hotel grounds. We were told we could not move rooms as nothing was available. After a struggle we were told to go back tomorrow and they would see what they could do. We eventually got moved to the other apartments on the complex which were better. The food was horrible, boring and not fresh; the drinks on 'all inclusive' were very limited. The evening bar was cramped and people had to perch on sun loungers due to not enough tables and chairs. It was noisy at night and the general atmosphere was rough and unsettling. On our last night a group of 10 lads arrived about 18 swearing and shouting - not somewhere i would go with my family and small children. The main thing i could not believe with this hotel is the rudeness of the staff, pure evil unfriendly looks and bad attitude. My friend got locked in the bathroom for about 40 minutes, when i went to get someone from reception i was told it was shut and to go back at 8pm!! i could not believe this. There was no customer care or service, i found a member of security who had to take off the lock to get my friend out, there was no apology and they did not fix the door.
The one thing i could not fault about Gran Canaria was the Weather, this was truly beautiful every day, the main town was good, lots of shops and as young girls the night life was pretty good and only a short taxi ride. I Would defiantly go back to Puerto Rico but never ever again would i stay at the Lara Apartments

me and my partner staid here for a week we went all inclusive what a laugh all the drinks stop at 10 30 and the food was so bad we had to eat out after the first 2 days as i ended up with a bad stomach i was not on my own another few people we spoke to was the same we could not even tell what half the food was it was dreadfull never a gain will we go back the apartment was ok but they were full of cockroachers i was glad to leave

Before I went I read all the reviews and thought I'd wait until we got there. Well..... I wish I had listened.
On a positive note - The girl on reception was very helpful and was even able to change our room so we were closer to our friends.
The room was spacious and clean, we had more than we expected for an all inclusive holiday with a fridge and small kitchen area. Maid service was appalling - towels were changed once during our week stay but the bedding was not changed at all!!!!
The food ............
Breakfast was okay with the usual fried breakfast, cereals, fruit and salad?? Best to get there at 9 am as soon as the doors open as you know it gonna be fresh.
Lunch - everyday burgers, hotdog sausages and chips with salad and fruit
Dinner - What is it with this hotel do they think that the english dont like vegetables and other varities of potatoes other than CHIPS!!!! Again salad every evening and cakes and fruit but you had to get up quick 'cause once these had gone there weren't anymore. A couple of evenings the meal was okay - A BBQ one night, roast chicken another. And whats this RICE an alternative to CHIPS!!!
This is not a complex for young families more a hotel for young lads who want to drink up the free beer and then head off into town for more beer and then come back a 6 am making as much noise as they could.
And the all inclusive bar well.... only 1 drink per person, AI bar finishes at 10:30 and it doesn't matter whether your in the queue or not come 10:30 no more. It was a case of joing the queue getting a drink and going to the back of the queue to get another and so on and so on..... The bar staff were so slow and often rude. After 10:30 when you pay for your drinks a small beer and a vodka and coke will cost you 8 euros - can get this cheeper in some of the bars and clubs in the Shopping Centre.
Luckly for us we were in a large group of 10 plus my 3 year old daughter and had been to Puerto Rico before so knew where to go in town for decent priced drinks. A taxi to the main town will cost about 4 euros and there is a taxi rank right by the hotel. Do not book this hotel if even if you think it is value for money it isn't - we were all inclusive and still managed to spend £400 in a week!!!

How they can claim all inc is beyond me. Timed cut off for drinks. Children snacks are only provided with lunch 13.00-15.30. drinks do not start until 11am and they stop serving the drinks at 10.30pm even if your in the que. this should be classed as half board. Flies all over the food so if you do book get there as soon as tea starts as the food could be left out with no cover for 2hours. not much choice as lunch time seems to be burger and hot dogs. Don't ruin your holiday by going.

if u go here dont go all/inc as the meals are stinking and if it rains theres nothing for the kids to do no entertaiment what so ever kids cannot get ice cream untill lunch or dinner they eaven wash the plastic cups that u get ur drinks in plus it shuts at 10 30 pm promt evan if ur in the cue the bar and catering staf not plesant so i would give it a big miss dont say i told u so . couple from scotland

The location was good to get to most places and the accommodation itself was adequate and fairly clean.
The biggest problem was the attitude of the staff, they were rude and un-helpful, we speak some Spanish and they spoke some English so it wasn't a case of bad translation/communication. On arrival there was nobody there to greet us, instead the keys to the apartment were left with some guys who run the local cafe and they wouldn't let us have the keys unless we left our passports with them. Maintenance men and cleaners would come and go to the apartment without warning at any time of the day/evening and if you were out they would let themselves in and you would find them there on your return. We used the safe there, although you could only fit so much in it and also it cost AN ADDITIONAL 26EUROS FOR HIRE OF THE SAFE KEY!
The manager of the site never raised a smile or made any effort to appear warm or friendly and would totally ignore you as he walked past as we said hola/hello, so much for good customer service. We asked him to help us make a phone call to arrange a lift back to the airport as we had trouble understanding the man on the phone. He charged us 50 cents for this.
Had a good time all the same although could have done without the lack of privacy, the attitude and the dirty looks from the staff, with the exception being the woman in the mini market next to reception, she was a delight.
Won't be going there again as we felt the holiday was tinged by all this and left a bad taste in the mouth.
