The hotel was very clean and the staff all very helpful. Our room was spacious and the cleaning staff where first class!
The area around the pool was kept clean and lots of room to be had, the only minus side for me was the fact that the water was cold, but on a hot day what the heck!

Having read reviews before leaving, we were a bit concerned about what we would find on arrival. The hotel itself was excellent, we found that all the staff worked hard and were extremely polite and helpful to guests, and tried their hardest to sort out any problems.
Our room was lovely, overlooking the pool. Towels and sheets were changed often and the room cleaned every day. There were plenty of sunbeds, we liked to be by the swallow end of the pool having a young child so that we could keep watch but could still get these until 9.30ish in August.
The meals were fine, we found the breakfasts a bit repetitive, but different evening meals offered over 2 weeks. I and my young son are fussy eaters but always found something we liked.
We did ask about all inclusive but as drinks were only 50c and snacks very reasonable (toasties with salad and crisps for less than a £1) we did not think it was worth the extra.
The only thing that spoilt our holiday was a group of Tunisian students who kept waking us (and everyone else) up during the first week, the hotel had security that did try to prevent this but obviously could not be there all of the time.
Eventually the management did move some of the students, we also moved to a quieter room for the second week.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return.

I agree from the comments made by the previous holiday maker, if I could give this a score it would be minus not one!
My family and I booked a well earned weeks break to Malta at this hotel and it was the week from Hell! Definitely not a four star hotel (well may be the reception area but nothing else) I would rate this as a one or two star hotel at the very most.
We arrived in the early hours of the morning and staff were very efficient to book us in so up we went in the very small old lift wondering if we might have to sleep in it if it didn't quite manage to get us there! We arrived at our room and climbed into bed exhausted from a days travelling. We awoke to blazing sunshine and a view to die for (yes it was horrible!) We had requested upon booking for a pool view room but instead we had a view of another hotel next to the Topaz and dirty old street!
We missed breakfast the first morning as was not told upon arrival of the times. Our room also didn't have air conditioning that worked and the doors out to the balcony (well a space outside) didn't shut or lock which was quite worrying when you have a 5 year old child in your room and you are several floors up the building. We put in a request to be moved immediately the first morning and were given another room 10am the next morning - 4th Floor facing the pool - lovely!!
Well everything seemed to work in the room, the air-conditioning did work but was leaking and dripping water onto the floor. So we settled in and I unpacked again, went to sleep that night then the noise started! Students - French this time, were going out at night and coming back very merry at 2am then running up and down the corridor, going in and out of other fellow students rooms slamming doors and shouting at the top of their voices as they were obviously blind drunk until 6am and this went on every night. Both my husband and I both went down to reception on several occasions and nights in the early hours to complain and ask for the noise to be stopped. Each time all we got was 'sorry' and we will send the security guard up to have a word with them.
We missed breakfast again as we were so tired from being awakened for so long in the middle of the night. The last night was the worst of all. Having come in again from a night out drinking they were running up and down our floor again, cramming as many of them they could into the tiny lift and smoking in the stairwells. They were also banging on our door (having probably been told by the hotel that we had complained) my husband got out of bed again and went to the door to shout at them, once again!
There was glass placed on the floor under our door!! Luckily no-one stepped on it but it was definately placed there on purpose. Off marched my husband, yet again down stairs, and this time he was very angry. He insisted that they tell him the room number of the teacher in charge of this group of students, then with the security guard in tow he marched up to his room, got him out of bed and made him come up to our floor to sort out the students. The hotel could have sorted out this mess on the first night - why were teenage French students all over the hotel, why not put them all together not mix them with families with young children? There were some nights I couldn't get out of the door of the hotel and the French students were so rude and they don't move out of the way for you to get by.
The food at the hotel had nothing to like about it. It was a shambles each meal time scrambling around for food, everyone going in each direction how I didn't get any food or hot drink tipped down my front was beyond me.
What concerns me the most about this hotel though was the health and safety side of things. Please read this as I feel this is very important to point out. Firstly, beware around the pool side when wet it is lethal and on several occasions, children and adults were slipping over and banging their heads on the hard tiles. The tiles around the pool in my opinion are not the correct ones and should be replaced.
Secondly, the fire doors around the pool side enabling guests to enter the hotel to reach their rooms, are locked at night!!! Yes so the only way out at night would be through the front main hotel doors or if you were lucky enough to have a ground floor room and you could climb over the balcony. This was very worrying when you are on the fourth floor and there are very drunk French students running around smoking anywhere they pleased. As you can imagine it was quite distressing for us knowing this.
I recommend that people do not stay in this hotel until they have seriously made some major alterations and brushed up on their fire regulations.
The hotel staff were very nice but all they could say was 'sorry' when there was a problem. Maybe someone could send them on a customer service training course, or 'How to deal with problem teenagers'. My holiday to Malta was a disaster and it should have been lovely!! Thank you Topaz!

The hotel was clean and well staffed with friendly people from reception to the numerous cleaners; the pool was clean and kept tidy. The rooms that we had were small but adequate for a week and were cleaned daily.
What spoiled our holiday was the food in the dinning hall, although it was plentiful it was not of the standard that would be expected from a 4* hotel, it was more often than not cold and we likened the menu to NHS food!
The snack bar menu at the pool was a little better, but was not as comprehensive for the all inclusive customer. The drinks menu did not offer any better. The Italian teenagers seemed to take over the hotel after midday and they were brash and ignorant.
The pool patio was very slippery and we witnessed several falls from people just walking to their sunbeds.
In our opinion the all inclusive package at the Topaz does not offer value for money, and is certainly not a 4* hotel.

My holiday to Malta was one of the best holidays I have had. The hotel staff were very friendly, there was a huge choice of delicious food, and there were plenty of facilities.
The weather was boiling and there was so much to do. In fact, I think that one week is not enough time to fully appreciate everything that Malta has to offer. I will certainly be returning to the destination at my first opportunity.
We went on several boat trips, the best being to the blue lagoon where the water was so clear you could actually see the sea bed. We went horse riding at dusk to Popeye Village which was very scenic (although I felt a little sore for a few days afterwards). The water park was a great place to chill out and the bowl slide certainly got the heart racing.
I have never seen water change from blue to pink to green before. The blue grotto was certainly a site to remember - beautiful!!! The locals were very friendly too and were eager to tell us the tale about when a white shark was captured in the sea many years ago. It was certainly something that raced through my mind as I went snorkelling in the sea! Although we were reassured that one hadn’t been seen since!
I was also intrigued to see the Maltese gather in the streets for a Maltese Fiesta. There were lots of statues of Saint Paul and the villages competed to see who could hold the best party. We went to Rabat where there was fireworks, candy floss, and street music. It was nice to mingle through the streets with the locals and get a vibe of the life lived there.
If I get a chance to go back I would like to go scuba diving, swim with the dolphins at the water park and go to Gozo for a few nights as we ran out of time on this trip.
I couldn't fault anything about this holiday although there aren't really any proper beaches but beautiful all the same.

This place is hell on earth. We currently have a complaint in with Thomas Cook.
The rooms are very very dirty, every time we flushed the toilet, effluent came up into the bowl from other rooms. We complained and were moved. In total we had 3 rooms and they were all dirty and poorly serviced.
I don't mind a basic room but I just wanted it to be clean. The photo's on the web bear little resemblance to the actual place, although some of the fortune spent on the reception area would be better spent on the rooms.
The resort has some nice restaurants and bars but I can't really recommend anything about the hotel I'm afraid.
We skipped breakfast because although it looked ok, you had to queue for ages and the kitchens looked filthy when we had to walk through them to get to another room, as the sewers had leaked across the main pathway.

We found the hotel to be excellent in all respects. The rooms are well equipped (ours had a built-in kitchenette) clean, well decorated, and reasonably spacious. The dining arrangements are more than adequate & the food fantastic!
As regards the location, if you consider Bugibba Square is within ten minutes strolling distance. There's also a multi-screen cinema 200 yards away, and a dozen or so bars/restaurants quite literally within a couple of blocks. I wouldn't say the Topaz is exactly remote, but it is in a quirt side street, which is a BIG bonus late in the evening.
If you want five star accommodation at two/three star prices, keep looking, but we found our stay was brilliant value for money.

Tour operator was very good, we fly from Newcastle 3.5 hrs using british jet to fly, good basic but on time.
Drinks on board plane spirits mini bottles £1.50 lot of leg room. We were transported to the Topaz by mini bus, quick there in 20mins all booked through choice holidays would use again.
Bus around island best way to travel to Valleta capital city of Malta, time 45 minutes cost 23c which is about 50p on speedo clock working on bus do not know they keep bus going old leyland must be 40years old.
The resort of Bugibba was ok busy at night st pauls bay is a lot quieter.
As for the Topaz food was ok, the restaurant was a nightmare from hell as they had arrangement with near by english speaking language school to use hotel restaurant, pushing shouting and badly mannered in general even stealing food.
The pool was clean and ok again the students would be at the pool about 2 ish and take over running around and playing in the under 5s pool there appeared to be no order.
At night the noise from the school on the other side of the road was very loud as they were boarding, there was a block in the hotel let off to students and the hotel ran an english language summer school.
All i can say is if that is the way this hotel is going to make money from mixing students with guests it will end up losing trade, i for one will not go back to the Topaz with students there.
Over all i did like Malta and the resort i will return one day but not to the Topaz.

The only reason I have given this hotel 1 out of 10 is that there is no option to give 0 out of ten!
What a huge huge disappointment and seriously marred our holiday. The hotel is situated on the outskirts of town in what can only be described as slums! There is hardly anything in the way of restaurants or bars surrounding the hotel so you have no option to hike into town every night.
On first impressions this is a 4 star hotel, when you walk into a lovely reception with amazing aircon and friendly staff.
However once we got into the shoe box that was to be our bedroom we were facing something more along the lines of a 2 star possibly a very poor 3 star at the most, and that's being generous.
The rooms were clean and I cannot fault the chamber staff they were very friendly and cleaned every day, my sheets did have cigarette burns in them. As I said the room was tiny as was the balcony but the bathroom was a joke, you couldn't open the door more than a crack as the sink was in the way.
We were caught in a rare heat wave in June with temperatures reaching 45+, we were advised prior to booking this holiday that we had full air con facilities in our room and that was joke. There was little if none and spent 2 weeks hardly sleeping for the heat.
The aircon was obviously installed in the seventies when this hotel had last been painted and had its hay day!!
The owner I believe is an Italian and fills the hotel during the summer with Italian kids who are rude and have no regard for manners, and Europeans say we're ignorant!!
Breakfast was like queuing for school dinners with the said kids pushing and shoving.
Food was ok but nothing to suggest that it's worthy of 4 star rating.
The only positive thing I have to say about this hotel is the staff were lovely and friendly.
If you are lucky enough to visit the beautiful island of Malta, please don't spoil it by staying in this awful hotel, the best thing that could happen to this is that they pull it down with some of the other places in the surrounding area.

Our stay at the Topaz was not a very pleasant one.
I booked direct through to Malta. When I booked I informed lady that one of our parties was disabled and needed high toilet seat, not a problem I was informed.
Our hotel rooms were on the far side of the property. Just follow me on this adventure bearing in mind my brother has an artificial leg.
Across the long foyer round the corner to a lift, go down one floor up the ramp along corridor, round corner to another lift up to the fourth floor actually five as we went down one.
Rooms had no balcony, my brother's overlooking a fire escape. We obviously complained but could not be moved until next day.
Evening meal - down to ground level, round corner down ramp, up in lift, across foyer round corner walk the long corridor down to restaurant.
Six lifts to go for evening meal and back to our room. No high toilet seat, if it was not for a returning guest who bought his own seat and leaves it at the hotel, well he would have had to cope.
We thank the guest for giving us the use of the toilet seat.
Our next room was luckily on the other side of the hotel and only one floor down to the restaurant but was a self catering apartment.
Dining was a whole new experience - chips for breakfast. Dining room was chaos at the point where you got your soup. People getting soup, going for pudding, arriving and leaving all in the same small gap.
We have been to Malta seven times over the four years and this has to be the worst. We are in our Fifties but we felt older with the so called entertainment.

Had a great time, the holiday was booked via Sunshine.co.uk I would like to thank them for the service they provide as it was second to none.
The Topaz was great, staff helpful and the place was clean.
The room (self catering) was well equipped and clean, the maid came in everyday which was great, the bathroom could be up-dated but it was clean.
I would return to Malta. Great holiday. If you go the best place to eat is The Venus (only open in the evening) snacks go to the Bayside and for the pub The Grape Vine.
