Sahara Playa Aparthotel

We orginally booked to stay at the hotel Rhondo, but on arriving at this hotel we found an offer for a free transfer to the Sahara, we transfered only on the basis that the location was more ideal for us, literally a 2 minute walk to the beach and approximately 10 mins walk to both the Yumbo, Kasbah and 15 mins to Cita. It's also right next to one of the main taxi ranks, although we prefered to walk.
The hotel is very german orientated, although this seems to be generally gran canaria on a hole with few english tourists about! The receptionists were welcoming and spoke good english, our room was located on the same floor as reception and although the view wasn't to great (overlooked the eating area) it was suprisingly quiet.
The rooms were spacious with two big single beds joined to make a double, bathroom was a fair size and shower/bath (powerful shower) and plenty of storeage space, and a fridge! There is no air con in the rooms but a fan is provided and we slept with the balcony door open also.
There are several pools, one in between the 2nd/3rd floor, which although its small is a nice area to sunbathe in, there is another floor on the lower level which is again small and I think is specifically for the s/c apartments. There is another pool in with the hotel bar, which is just along from the hotel, which is where all A/I drinks are available from.
Food was plentiful with breakfast served from 8-11, lunch from 13:00-15:00 and evening meal from 18.30-22.00, food was buffett style with a fair range of choice and chinese option available from outside bar. There were also snacks available in between I believe with cakes served mid afternoon, although we never attended as we were so full from standard meal times!
For the price we paid this was a good holiday, with a lot of food, I have been to Gran Canaria twice now, and personally if I went back again would return to S/C as we felt somewhat restricted to the hotel as we had already paid for A/I and its nice to experience other bars/restaurants.
Hotel is gay friendly, very close to Yumbo as I've said (yumbo is quite male orientated, limited women only bars). All in all good hotel, nice hotel to which we would return again with great weather, the only thing that would make it better would be 1. more english guests! 2. bigger pool area, but its so close to the beach that we spent much of our time here.
