Submitted By: Mr J Deanobviously to much effort, We are not moaners but it drove us nuts, asked to be moved to no avail.Apartment clean and well equipped, TV,couple of English speaking channels,
Toaster,Kettle,Micro Wave, and Two ring hob.If you go B/B or H/B this is not a buffet,
and not a full Menu, you eat from a selected menu, although I must say the food, was
reasonable. The complex is very steep not suitable for elderly people, lots of steps, and
the hill that winds up though the middle is very steep.Onsight supermarket expensive,
drinks in restaraunt very very expensive, good Spar supermarket in Arquineaquin.

Submitted By: Mr AC HobbsThe resort is extremely clean, apartments are fine and with enormous balconies, pool area and pool bar is great.
Only thing is don’t eat at the restaurant here as they will stitch you up.
The Staff on the reception are fantastic and always willing to help.
I completely recommend this resort as it is so close to Puerto Rico- 3 Euros in a cab and
is a 5 min walk to Anfi Beach also.
Also we have found onthebeach to be good apart from they took money off us for in flight meals which we never got, as the airline doesn’t provide, this is still being discussed!

Submitted By: Mrs S RobinsonThe hotel is located a few minutes drive from Puerto Rico in Balito so there was none of the noise from nightlife. Unfortunately you can't walk around the coast to Puerto Rico, but a cab was only €3 and was efficiently ordered by the staff. You can walk the other way round the coast though into Anfi and beyond, which was a nice walk.
The first apartment we were given was a bit smelly from sewerage (a common problem on the island I think), but we were swiftly given a new one when we complained. The apartment was large with a good balcony and overlooked the sea.
The beach there is a pebble one, so good for rock climbing but not really for sun bathing.
Given that there were children in the adjoining apartments we did not hear any noise. The rooms were generally cleaned every day to a good standard.
The restaurant food was reasonable and the staff there friendly. There was entertainment on most nights, mainly in the form of cover singers, some of which were ok. There is a little mini-market there which stocked drinks and basic supplies and was reasonable.
All in all a good place to stay and we would go back again. Don't go for B & B though unless you like an English fry up every day!!

Submitted By: Mr M BradleyThe rooms were very spacious and in room facilities good. Rooms cleaned daily and the attentiveness of the chamber maid fantastic including the balcony being cleaned spotlessly despite there being a bad storm the previous night, that decided to have a party with the plant pots on the balcony.
Overall very good and excellent value for money!
Two small Criticisms
1. The majority of people staying at the hotel didn't have any manners or respect for the staff please and thank you goes a long way no matter where you are!
2. The service in the restaurant could have been a little faster although overall very good.

Submitted By: Ms J EdgarThe apartments are spacious and clean with excellent views over the ocean. 10 - 15 mins walk to Anfi beach - lovely beach with bars, restaurants. Short taxi ride to Puerto Rico.
Bus stop outside reception - easy access to Porto Mogan or Las Palmas.
" Excellent cheap holiday, clean basic... "
Submitted By: Miss M SykesArrived at reception, were given a map to guide us to our apartment. We were staying by the pool with stunning views from our balcony. The hotel is split into 2 sections, a few apartments and reception at bottom and then pool, bar, pool restaurant & apartments at top, the walk from reception to pool is about 5-10 minutes up a steep hill, (not suitable for disabled or anyone with walking difficulties).
Our apartments was fine; open plan kitchen/ living room area that leads to a balcony with amazing view of the sea, twin beds, clean bathroom and maid service every other day.
No air conditioning or fans in room, does tend to get very hot when sleeping. The bedroom window is next to the balcony, so we slept with window fully open. (But you can hire fans, cars seats, pushchairs etc from reception).
We are a couple aged 28 & 30 and basically just wanted a cheap relaxing holiday, which is exactly what we had.
Spent a few days around the pool, but a MUST is the walk to Anfi beach, it is about 10 minutes down a unmade path from reception, just follow the path and you will come to a beautiful sandy beach, shops, bars, cafes, etc.
Not really much going on in terms of entertainment at Balito, so I would recommend going into Puerto Rico on an evening, (3-5 euros each way in a taxi).
We had a really nice time with no problems.
" I must admit being a bit apprehensive... "
Submitted By: Angela& Steve HardyThe only thing we found wrong was it not having air conditioning in the rooms. The staff at the reception and bar/pool were very friendly and work very hard to look after you. As it was late in the season there was not much entertainment going on, although Taz kept us entertained with his cheeky wit.
I recommend you visit Anfi Beach which is only a 15 minute walk. Taxis to the shopping centre cost around 3.50/4.50 euros, where you can find all you need from good food to electrical goods.
In the town be aware of pests which include cockroaches/time share touts which pester you even though you say you’re not interested.
The view from the accommodation was special, we overlooked the sea and watched the sunset every night on the balcony with a glass or two.
Hope this helps anyone looking for a quiet location.
" My partner and I have just returned... "
Submitted By: Ms J ChamberlainWe went in the mind set of having a week of rest and relaxation and this is precisely what we got. The apartment we had was spacious, clean, and well equipped and was located right on the edge of the sea so the views were incredible.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful and getting about was easy with regular buses and cheap taxis. We would recommend taking the bus to Mogan as the resort is so pretty with plenty of shops, restaurants, and marina.
The journey itself takes about 20 minutes and is a little hair raising with a couple of hairpin bends on the edge of the cliffs but was well worth it! A good restaurant we found in Arguiniguin is the Marina II on the sea front which specialises in the most amazing sea food.
Overall we would highly recommend Balito Beach as an excellent place to stay if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday. The only thing we ever heard after dark was a rather friendly cat that used to visit us looking for a bit of a feed and company!

Submitted By: Mr M HUMPHREYSIt is a very quiet location and has good sunbathing, all day free sun beds. A trip to Alfi is a must, the beach there is out of this world. The bar staff were very friendly and most helpful, the entertainment at night was a bit crazy to say the least. Tazz the mental Geordie is a fantastic entertainer, music, quizzes, knock backs, bingo, brainteasers, and he does the lot.
Would recommend this place to any body. A handy tip if you don’t have a transfer from the airport be warned a taxi from the airport costs between 45-55 euros. Each way a number 91 bus costs 4.8 euros not rocket science is it.

Submitted By: Mr G BrownThere are about 3 rows of steps up to the pool which will take you about a minute to get up. Some folk described this place as if you were staying on a mountain. The reception is at the bottom next to a supermarket; at the top is the pool, bar/restaurant, where the food is good.
There was a mix of Spanish, English and Scots who all got on. They have a very big swimming pool and a baby pool everyone was nice and acted like a family, my 2 year old daughter Lucy had loads of kids to play with. We did meet one man who seemed to be trying to make a dossier of complaints about everything - he sent his food back 3 times, complaining they were no towels everyday, when it tells you behind your door when they change towels and he says there was no porter to take him to his room and he was only 3 days into his holidays, no wonder a lot of places get a bad review with folk like him.
Go down the steps at the side of the reception then a 5 minute stroll takes to the paradise of Anfi beach. On the other side of the hotel is Puerto Rico which takes 4 - 5 minutes in a taxi and costs between 3 - 5 euros depending on taxi driver if you know what I mean. I saw 2 cockroaches outside of the apartments and also 1 small beetle inside in the whole week. I would advise you strongly to get a fan on arrival which cots 15 euros with a 10 euro deposit.
As this complex is outside Puerto Rico you could have a peaceful sleep whenever you get in. I would recommend this place for kids because they were loads of them absolutely loving the pool. There is sky TV in the restaurant/bar and meant to be some Elvis impersonator on at night which is this places only entertainment but we would go into Puerto Rico commercial centre anyway.
We would like to say hi to Sandra and Iain from Inverurie who were great neighbours and really nice while staying here even though Iain was a rangers fan ha ha. We loved every single minute of this holiday and we really mean that 4th time in Puerto Rico and saving again. Adios!

Submitted By: Mrs C GriceAs other reviewers have mentioned ordering a taxi to Puerto Rico is no problem but if you want to just have a five minute walk to get a paper then that's not going to happen. This hotel is great if all you want to do is bake in the sun all day long, have a meal in the bar at night along with a couple of drinks and then go to bed or it's great as a base if you have a car and are travelling to different parts of the island each day.
However, if you're wanting anything else then this is not the place for you.

Submitted By: Mrs M BraveryThe next morning we got a rude awakening - we were directly under the restaurant and were woken at 7.30am to the sound of scraping chairs and stamping feet!
Not only were we under the restaurant but we had some sort of water heater outside the room which exploded in to action every 10 - 15 mins.
Our welcome meeting was at the pool bar - having been up and down the stairs we asked where the pool was - only to be told it was not in this building but up a very steep hill and 3 flights of stairs in another part of the complex (no one told us it was in 3 parts!)
We finally made it to the meeting to be greeted by a stand in rep who raced through the meeting - no info about local area more interested in getting us to book trips or speaking to his colleague to get them to encourage us to go round the Anfi timeshare complex - (if you look out of the restaurant window its on the corner of the beach) don't go with the travel company and be tied down all day walk around the coast path and your in (NO CHARGE!)
We had to ask for a kettle and toaster - kettle took a day to arrive and the toaster 2 days.
Although the room appeared to be well cleaned when I moved clothes in the wardrobe a couple of days later they were crawling with red ants and Cockroaches- we had to purchase some spray to kill them off!
The entertainment in the evenings was a joke - we didn't actually go to the bar/restaurant but as we were directly underneath we could hear everything unfortunately!
If you want a sun bed by the pool you need to be poolside by at least 9am or you are o8ut of luck and having just struggled up the hill and steps it can be pretty annoying to find them all reserved with towels.
The 2 days we did stay by the pool some beds were empty all day apart from a couple of hours, but they still had towels laid on them.
Everything is aimed at the Norwegian, Swedish and Finish guests.
To get out and about is quite easy - the bus to Puerto Rico goes from over the road (either play chicken across the busy road or walk for 5 minutes under the under pass) every 20 mins and to get to Las Palmas etc the bus goes from right out side the hotel. Reception are more than happy to call a taxi for you.
They tell you the taxi number so there are no misunderstandings about who's taxi is who's.
The hotel mini market has a very limited selection of goods (bizarrely though they sold packets of brussel sprouts in cling film) but are handy for your breakfast roll.
Half of the lower level complex was being renovated so all the sea views were unavailable and there was a lot of noise and dust.
Our room door lock was not in line with the door frame so opening it was a real problem.
A couple of days before we were due to leave we asked about a late check out as we were not being collected until 8.30pm and rooms had to be vacated by 12 noon.
We were told to see reception on the morning we were leaving at 9am , so at 8.30am I went up to see about a late check out - Sorry no late check out or courtesy room. This meant we would be out of apartment for over 8 1/2 hours!
Lucky for us a couple over heard me complaining to the rep (1st time he had been seen all holiday!) and they offered to let us use their room (Never met them before and didn't mange to get their name but thanks you saved the day).
All in all if you want a very basic (more 2 star than the 3 given by Aspro) base for your holiday you don't mind getting a bus or taxi every time you want to leave the complex, aren't bothered about any form of entertainment or bar, are prepared to climb every where, then by all means stay here, but rest assured although the staff were very helpful we will NOT be going back.

Submitted By: Miss C MessinghamThe apartments were spacious, modern, clean and well equipped with fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave.
We were surprised over the number of apartments in the complex as they are spread out over a hill; luckily we were near the bottom - close to the reception and minimarket.
The pool and pool bar were a short 5 minute walk up hill, but well worth the physical exertion!
Taxi's were available within a few minutes of ordering, and Puerto Rico was a 5 minute ride away, with plenty of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops - although it is kind of "cheap n cheerful" - we didn't have a bad meal and found a few unique gift shops and stalls.
Unfortunately, we didn't discover the hidden gem of Anfi until the day before we were due to leave. A 15 minute stroll down a gravel track behind the apartments, leads to the prettiest marina and beach I have seen so far, in all my travels throughout the Mediterranean. There are a few shops, lots of little cafes, a beautiful garden area and a very clean beach.
I enjoyed this holiday so much I’m already planning to go back next year!
" Do not go here! I have never stayed... "
Submitted By: Miss C CollinsFirst of all it was dirty, the bath hadn’t been cleaned nor the toilet and the bedding was dirty, the lights in the living area didn’t work and when I flicked the switch to turn it on, it blew.
The light in the bathroom did not work either. We couldn’t open our door to the apartment for about 30mins as the key was just getting stuck and once opened would not lock again.
As for the cockroaches it was ridiculous, I know you expect to see a few in Gran Canaria but not as many as we had seen. They were above the door as we entered the room, in the bath and all over the floor.
We pulled back the curtains in the room and they were hiding behind them, about 20 of them just ran up the walls and under the sofa, there was one big one sat on top of the TV and even in the beds!
We went on the balcony and there were dead ones crushed all up the walls and on the floor. A bit of dirt you can cope with and maybe a couple of cockroaches but not to that extent. It was that bad we didn’t even stay the night in the room.
I and my partner decided we weren’t going to see it through and wanted to go. We packed up our stuff and headed for reception.
On arrival to reception we found 4 other couples all with children complaining about the same problems. The staff were kind and friendly though and sympathised with us all one even agreed and suggested we would be better off staying elsewhere, as all the rooms were the same condition and wouldn’t be any better for us.
We all waited up till morning for the rep to arrive and were later moved to a hotel down the road called Green Beach hotel. It was beautiful. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.
After the bad experience at the beginning of the holiday it turned out to be a really good holiday we didn’t see one cockroach anywhere else. Balito must be where they all are!
