Myself and my husband have just returned from Malta after a week's stay at the BHC. Where do I start????
Upon arriving at the hotel at 1am we thought the foyer looked nice and quite upmarket for a three star hotel. However when we got to our room the bathroom was filthy and the cupboard doors in the kitchen were falling off. The freezer door was also broken which we found out later prevented us from freezing anything. We are frequent travellers to Greek islands so we are used to the rooms not being 'top notch' but I could not believe how run down the whole of the hotel looked. It seemed to me like they had done nothing to the decor/furniture since the hotel had opened some 13/14 years ago.
From the word go there was lots of noise from the students (until 2/3am) every night. There was always students walking the corridors (or should I say running), playing ball in the corridor and shouting from one balcony to another across the pool area.
We complained at reception about the noise levels - they said they would have a word but to no effect. We also spoke to other British families there who had done the same and found that the staff were unhelpful and rude.
The pool was filthy (there was a foot wide scum line around the pool) and you couldn't see the bottom of the pool even in the shallow end. We actually overlooked the pool and each morning we would see the pool man scooping the odd leaf etc out of the pool. That in itself was the cleaning process, which took all of 15 minutes. I actually got in one day to find a foot long clump of hair and debris floating towards me. Needless to say I got out of there sharpish and didn't get in again. I had to resort to cooling off under the pool side showers.
Our tour operator advertised the hotel as having 'nightly entertainment' and 'three bars'. The only bar open is the pool bar which only has 5/6 tables to sit at. We saw countless people having to sit on the sun loungers to drink their drinks and the entertainment consisted of one night of karaoke.
The sheer number of students caused so many problems in the pool - at one count there were about 75 people in the pool. We saw children being hit by balls and even had an acrobatic group performing their routines in the pool (this entailed three man pyramids with people jumping off the top person). In the end many British families wouldn't let their children in there as they were nearly crushed.
I have never in my life complained about a hotel's accommodation but we have submitted a complaint along with several other people (we actually had to queue up to get a complaint form from the holiday rep as so many people felt the same way).
I am not the type of person to moan but please consider this review before you book. I have been put off before by reviews and found them to be fine but on this occasion I cannot stress enough how poor the facilities are and how noisy it is due to the calibre of guests that book into the hotel. I actually need a holiday to catch up on my sleep!

I disagree with the person that said all of Malta is a dump! That is very untrue.
We went to the Buggiba holiday complex on the 3rd of july And were very disappointed as the brochures were very wrong.
Entertainment - None for kids.. an old man playing on the piano was all we got.
Food - was like we were in a school dinner hall because of all the italian students that were there. food was nice but there wasn't really a selection.
Staff - staff were friendly and were keen to help whenever anything was needed.
Rooms - very basic indeed! Very clean though and a good size, even though we wanted 5 rooms 4 with 3persons and one single one. But all they gave us were a four a three and two twin ones. was very disappointed as the travel agent at the holiday and flight centre had told us we were definitely getting the rooms we wanted.
It was only a day until we got fed up with it all so asked to move hotels and on the 10th of july we moved to the Quara palace hotel. It Would Be rude to comment on this hotel here as it isn't in the reviews but i can just say the Buggiba holiday complex is a three star hotel... it should be a 1 star... and the Quara Palace Hotel is a 4 star and should be a 5 star.
I'm glad Buggiba holiday complex is getting knocked down because it was a holiday from hell and i'm glad we got moved from that sh**e Hole
I Recommend no-one to go to the Buggiba resort as it is reeli dirty and disgusting. the other end of the country (Quara) Is a very different story.

Do not stay in this hotel. It was the worst place ever to be stayed in.
1st Day On Arrival me my boyfriend his mum and his auntie got to the complex at around 11.00am. The place was packed out with about 500 exchange students all of the age range 12-17. We then were told we could not check in until 2.00pm. After providing a small room to put our luggage in so that while we waited we didn't have to carry it around. We then decided to take a walk and arrive back at 2. When we did, the complex said only 1 room was ready, and the second room we had to wait 5 hours for(talk about bad service).
When getting the room we soon realised they had put a really nice old man of 80 and his daughter in there(on the 7th floor) and THEN decided to move him to about 10 different rooms in the complex, because they didn't get the rooms right.
The next 5 days were a nightmare the students were rude, loud, and ignorant no respect for others. They took up the pool and were dangerous and disrespectful. They weren't allowed out so they decided to plot themselves in the lounge at reception playing the piano an taking up the door ways. At night they were loud and kept ringing our room and speaking in a different language laughing (pranking).
The pool was disgusting and dirty and the food was not covered, letting all the flies do as they please. The smell of the food made all of us heave and there was no selection. Every night we decided to go out and eat.
The rooms were dirty and the fans were covered in dust , one person from the hotel even had said they found condoms and all sorts under his bed ( Probably From the students)
The students at this place had priority for everything. The staff here are rude and are no help at all. I would not recommend anyone to stay here, in the end we ended up moving into a lovely hotel for our last two days .(DOLMENT RESORT) It had everything, lovely tidy clean rooms, great views, nice people, nice staff and the pools were amazing. This resort had everything to offer, it was the best part of our holiday and wish we had booked with them from the start. It has its own night club bars and own private beach offering loads of water sports also a spa indoor swimming pool an body massage it was great !!
DO NOT STAY IN BUGIBBA HOLIDAY COMPLEX IT WILL BE THE WORST MISTAKE OF UR LIFE !!
STAY IN THE DOLMEN RESORT IT WAS GREAT !!

Although our holiday was a last minute deal we had high hopes for 3 star accommodation in a nice relaxed location, or so we thought.
After a long drive to the airport (4 hours) and an early morning flight we were disappointed that we were not expected.
This led to a hour and a half wait for a room. When we finally managed to drag our cases across the complex and up the stairs we were absolutely amazed at the room. I have been to youth hostels that are cleaner and better equipped.
We decided to persevere as it was only for a week but the thing that annoyed us more than anything was the students. The first night was banging on doors, running up and down the corridor, shouting and generally causing mayhem. Despite several requests that they keep the noise down it fell on deaf ears. Considering they were there to learn English they seem to have no knowledge of the word quiet.
Even after complaining to the reception staff nothing was done. This as it turned out was one of the better nights! The following night my wife was pushed aside by 4 Italian male youths who then felt it acceptable to push her into a corner and feel threatened.
This was the final straw and after much heated debate in reception we finally were allowed to move rooms. The staff supposedly controlling the Italian students showed no concern at their behaviour whatsoever.
The hotel staff finally agreed to move us and as it turned out we had been placed in the student part of the accommodation. This seems to be extremely insulting and shows a total disregard for our holiday.
Although the room we were moved to had slightly better facilities the air conditioning was pointless and the bathroom was filthy. I feel extremely disappointed that we were not informed of its role as a student base as this would have affected our choice of destination.
The area itself has plenty to offer however there is no beach to speak of and we were regularly bothered by time share sales. Malta is a lovely island and well worth a visit however I would not recommend a stay at the Buggiba Holiday Complex.

I went to Malta for a break before I had my baby.
The hotel itself was as far as hotels abroad go not too bad however; I would not recommend that anyone under the age of 50 go to Malta at all.
The only activities there were, was drinking coffee and walking.
It took the meaning of a relaxing holiday to a whole new level. I was looking forward to coming home just so I could do something other than sit and watch the world go by.

Well as you can see its only a 3* hotel and I haven’t give it 9/10 for that, its beyond that, why? When we got to Bugibba it was beautiful.
When we entered the hotel we got our keys and unpacked and went for a meal, when we come back at 11 the bar in the hotel was still open and was open till late.
I give the 9/10 because of the staff the was a superb bunch of people they would do anything for you at any time.
Also have you ever been on holiday and can’t get in the pools because it’s packed or can’t get a sun lounge because there all taken? Well in Bugibba holiday complex there is none of that, you can do what you want when you want its paradise :)
The country of Malta is just beautiful and can’t compare it to any where else!!
I would recommend Malta to everyone and defo go to this hotel. Thanks to all the staff at the hotel and all the Maltese are family over there :) see you this year in July.

To give it a 1 rating is too high!
Hotel / room - dirty and run down like a really down market youth hostel.
Staff - rude, unpleasant and discourteous. Apart from man in mini market.
Pool - unclean.
Food - even though we were HB, we ate out every single night as food was so disgusting, salads not even refrigerated - no choice either. Staff were particularly unpleasant
Malta in general - a horrible island, the worst week of my life. Getting on the plane home felt like I’d won the lottery!!
Do not go to Malta - everywhere is a dump.

Stayed at Complex twice before and recommended to family & friends. Never again.
Students spoilt holiday by keeping us up most nights kicking, banging, knocking on doors, climbing over balconies and through windows (did not use or have keys), took over pool, so dangerous for young children.
Reception/lounge overflowing with students, no place to sit. Had to wait half an hour sometimes for keys whilst overworked receptionist dealt with students, who always had priority.
Would only stay there again if better management and leaders for students guaranteed our safety and comfort and they accommodated students in one area, so we could get some sleep at night.
Malta is a wonderful island which I and all my family love and pray we can keep visiting. Do your own trips as reps have their own agenda and not to YOUR benefit.
Trips quite easy to arrange locally, Maltese are friendly and helpful. Just beware of hotels with 100's of students in July/August!

Having been to Malta many times before this was my first visit the the BHC and enjoyed my stay there and will definitely stay there again.
Staying half board the room was pretty basic, but then again it was only somewhere to sleep and get changed. It was clean and got cleaned regularly.
Food was excellent, can not be faulted at both restaurants.
The Pool was clean and having two pools helped. Only little problem was there wasn't enough sun beds and regularly we were sunbathing on the floor, however this is a problem that many hotels have no matter where you stay.
The staff were very helpful, at every level from cleaners to managers.
The location of the hotel is well situated in between Bugibba and Qawra; two minutes walk from both centres and the sea.
Malta is a gorgeous island, as the Maltese are very friendly, there are hundreds of sights to see, it's never ending. My mum and dad have been going for 30 years and still find new things to see and visit even though it is a small island.
Favourite restaurant - Chez's - on the square in Bugibba.

We went with family and they are with rci time share. The complex is basic but clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The shop on second floor had a good selection and the man serving was friendly and couldn’t do enough for you.
We love Malta. The people are wonderful and the place amazing. We will be back to Malta next year only not in that complex as we were told they are pulling it down in November. It is a shame.

Accommodation is basic but adequate for your needs, and yes, in one or two places a lick of paint would be of some good, but overall this is a nice place to stay.
This was my second visit to BHC, the staff are the soul of this place, friendly and polite at all times. As some have already said, the pool terrace is a bit short of sun in the late afternoon, and no swimming is permitted after 6pm. I would stay there again, no problem.
Not far from the shops and restaurants, and near to the bus station too. It was nice to walk down the seafront at nearly 1am and find shops and bars open in the warm summer evenings.

After 3 years with no holiday I decided to spend some serious (for me) money (£900 in total) and treat myself to a bit of sun and sea in Malta (having been recommended by a friend as a great place to visit) ..... Then the trouble began....
My quiet room (confirmed on booking references and check in) was right over the pool bar, the air con would only pump out warm air, bush fires had (so the hotel telephone operator told me) knocked out about half the town's phone lines so service was more miss than hit....
I was expecting at least a half decent room, but the only positive thing I can say was that the door didn't creak or squeak when you opened it....
The food was not of a very good quality, what I would consider basic/decent hygiene standards appeared to be an alien concept at times - this facility needs MAJOR revamping (easily a couple of million pounds and not as it would appear a dab of badly matched paint here and there).
To top it all, the tour operator (who shall remain nameless (but think of a smile!) couldn’t or wouldn’t move me to another hotel, so I ended up flying home AT MY OWN EXPENSE (yes they are that 'cheap') and after a month I am still waiting for a refund - but from their communications it seems like they don’t want to pay out.
Town = surprisingly pleasant. Hotel = naff, shabby, cheap (and it shows!). Staff = some pleasant but most need a BIG dose of basic customer care training. Tour operator = I will never use them again.
