rip off rates
I have stayed at the Trinidad Hilton every July for the last five years as I visit Trinidad from London to go to my dad's birthday party every year (he lives in Trinidad). It has always been run-down and poor value for money but the staff and place itself has a certain charm. Besides, where else is there to stay in Trinidad with a decent pool and views of the savannah? However, my trip in July 2006 made me decide I was paying too much for a mediocre place. My room rate including breakfast was originally us85 a night as it was the weekend. I... more
OK for a business hotel - short trip
I spent two nights at the Hilton in Port of Spain in early July. Despite hearing a lot of negatives from co-workers, I personally did not have any problems. While the hotel is set in spacious grounds, this is not a place for a vacation - go to Tobago for relaxation; Trinidad for business. The rooms are spacious - although the space is not well utilized. I could not get my US calling cards to work, but didn't push that as I could dial in from the office I was visiting. However, that may have been as much the Trinidadian phone... more
Be Prepared to Pay
I have just returned from a 14 day stay at the Trinidad Hilton. I was in Room 850. It is a junior suite for $215 US a night. The room was unbelievable - I must have got a newly remodeled room. However, then I got my bill and they add so many charges and surcharges that by the end of the day you have paid an additional $80 in charges. The food is just OK and VERY expensive. The staff is great but the dont seem to be in a hurry to help you. The one thing that I didnt like is that once you check in you cant check out before your... more
Employees caring touch made the difference
Our organization stays at the Trinidad Hilton quite often, I love that place It's all about the way you are treated by everyone, they know your name, they go out of their way to make sure you are happy, the rooms are large, the view is great, the food is good and room service is prompt I could live there alfie
Gross
I work for an airline and travel as a crewmember. This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. I was only there for one night. The walls in the bathrooms were all scuffed up, everything was old, the carpet was stained and dirty, and the tile in the shower was mildewed. The crowning glory was the bloodspot on the bathroom door. It was towards the bottom of the door, and resembled a heel mark. It really creeped me out. Upon further examination I discovered it was ketchup. But even THAT is extremely gross! I have left my... more
I was there for Carnival not bad
Well I think the bad reviewers are comparing non 3rd world hotels to 3rd world hotels. For a 3rd world country like Trinidad , this is a great hotel. People find reasons to complain about everything. I had a ball, nice views, etc. It is the best place besides the Crowne Plaza hotel, to stay for Carnival, because the top calypso and soca performers in Trinidad perform there. The Hilton Hotel is where it's at, the site of all the action. Sure it is not as modern and the prices are higher than average, but it has a very nice atmosphere,... more
A Great experience
We stayed at the Hilton trinidad from May 26-may 29 to see the 2 cricket matches between India and the West Indies (The indian cricket team and the entire production crew stayed here). The two positives for this hotel are the staff and the convenience of the location. The Staff were arguably the nicest you will find around the world. We were offered late check-out without a bother, special meals were arranged after midnight on our request, the guest services desk arranged for trips around trinidad (they were even honest and suggested against... more
Disgraceful rip-off
This hotel wouldn't qualify for an Econolodge label were it in the US. I stayed there last week as part of a group during the West Indies-India cricket series. On arrival, the bed types that had been promised were unavailable. Looking past that, the room (265) had frayed carpets, bathroom tiles that were chipped and water pressure that was barely a trickle besides hot water alternated from non-existent to occasional surges of scalding water. The next day was shifted to room 1040 where water pressure was okay but the bathroom had yellow... more
Hated IT!
I'm here on Business - thoughtful in that they were able to find my reservation and provide me with a room on the 12th floor. To say the least, my other coworkers stayed at Hotel Normandy and their wireless internet access was free as for me - 14.95 a night and I had to sit in the lobby where everyone that smoke frequented. I managed to convince a helpful employee to provide the internet service as a compliment given my having to wait 3 hours for a room and that my other coworkers were being provided free internet access at the other... more
Hated Almost Every minute of It
I just returned from an 8 day stay and I was not impressed at all. I'm surprised the Hilton lent their name to this property. The hotel manager was absolutely useless, he was not interested at all in making the guests more comfortable. A few of the staff members were very helpful (Jana and Vanessa in particular) but if you got stuck with almost anyone else, GOD HELP YOU. The rooms were not clean at all, we changed rooms 4 times trying to find the best or a good one. (NOTE: Housekeeping does not vacuum. I was in the room every... more
