" Beautifully!!!! "

Had a lovely stay. Think we must have been among the first guests. Beautifully clean, great rooms (we were upgraded to deluxe which had a balcony looking onto the Nile – with nothing obscuring the view which is unusual). Shame the spa wasn’t fully open, it looks like they were still finishing but the pools are lovely with underwater sun loungers. Food was good – we loved the fresh hot oven bread and the staff were lovely too. Really making an effort but not pushy like some. It’s still a bit quiet but won’t be for long. Though that may be the point as it’s a lovely spot. We’ve done a Nile cruise before but this had all of the benefits with much better food if you don’t like traveling about.

Advice: Luxor - need to stay at the new Hilton Luxor Resort and Spa

Activities: Silk Road at the Hilton Luxor Resort and Spa

" Superb "

Great service at Hilton Luxor Resort. Mrs W had a wonderful time having massages all holiday – she didn’t join me to see the sights till the last few days. Some incredible things to see in Luxor and then to come back and lie back in the pool looking out across the Nile with some decent food, it’s ideal. A true getaway.

Advice: You don't need to travel far to have a fantastic break, Luxor is near, cheap and sunny

Activities: We at at the Hilton mostly, with 7 restaurants/bars we had plenty of choice and knew it was safe

Good for: City Breaks

" Luxor in late May was HOT! The Hilton... "

Luxor in late May was HOT! The Hilton was well situated out of town slightly with fantastic sunsets over the Nile - the fourth floor rooms have a great view.

Tours & balloon trips are cheaper outside the hotel & a fraction of the cost of holiday company offerings.

You will get hassled but if you are firm but polite it's fine.

It's very useful to say that you've already been on a felucca, camel, pony ride etc as you do get left alone!

" This hotel is wonderful, the staff... "

This hotel is wonderful, the staff are top notch, they could not do enough for us. The rooms were spotless and cleaned immaculately every day. The Egyptian people are so friendly, and want to show you all they can in there country. The people love there country and want you to as well. We saw the Valley of the Kings, temples, museums etc and got invited to eat evening meals with the locals in there own homes, this was wonderful.

Egypt is a poor country and tipping is a way of live, 1le (Egyptian pound) is about 10p, we generally tipped 5le for every hour of someone’s time we took up, i.e. if the man in the museum gave us his time exclusive (which will happen!) for 3 hours telling us all about the exhibits we would give him 15le (that’s about £1.50 tip), this will be greatly received.

We had a taxi at our beck and call for 4 days and it came to the grand total of, wait for it, (400LE) £40.00, that is all we paid for 4 days of constant traveling where we wanted when we wanted! But we did tip him 100le (£10.00), if you are thinking of going to Egypt, please go, you will love it, remember the sun cream, it is very hot there! You will not see rain!

" Hmmm..... where can I start? Overall,... "

Hmmm..... where can I start? Overall, the hotel is no more than a three-star in reality, but having said that, for every negative comment I can make, I can think of a positive!!

The staff cannot do enough for you, slip the pool boy a few pence every day, and we had sunbeds reserved for us with fresh flowers and magazines waiting for us every day. The staff at the pool bar are so friendly, likewise with the waiters, slip them a little something and they’re at your beck & call all day. We couldn’t fault the pool area at all, it was kept very clean and there is the most spectacular view of the West Bank.

The room attendants were the same, our room was cleaned every day, he even pushed our beds together for us! It's not really worth paying the extra for a Nile view room, for the first week there was nothing but a huge cruise ship to look at, & once it had gone the view was obscured by the trees! Rooms are your average hotel room, we could hardly stand together on the tiny balcony, but it was very welcoming with the air-con on after a hard days sunbathing!

The hotel itself needs a bit of updating, the carpets & curtains are a little ragged round the edges, all it needs is a lick of paint & a bit of TLC and it’ll be a nice four star again. The biggest draw back is its location - there is a shop and a small bar over the road and that it - anything else is a cab ride, although they are always outside and very cheap. Its about ten minutes to the centre of Luxor and it’ll cost about £2. Always agree a price before you get in. We used the same driver for most of our journeys, he was called Lemloum and he took for of us to the Valley of the Kings (about 30mins), stayed in his car all morning and waited for us to bring us home and he charged us a tenner between the four of us. Brilliant!

There is no entertainment to speak of, we were in bed most nights before 10pm! For any sightseeing, you really need to do it very early in the morning - we went to the temples & the valleys at about 7am, otherwise it was just too hot. You can't really walk the streets at night, you just get hassled, we were literally cornered by a group of men wanting us to get in their carriage - pretty frightening!

We could book trips through Cosmos but we found they were much, much cheaper to jump in a taxi and pay to get it when you get there. Food & drink is ridiculously cheap - £1 for a bottle of beer, £2.50 ish for a main meal. Make sure you go to 7 Days 7 Ways restaurant (take them some Bisto & Heinz salad cream, they’ll love you forever!), its run by a Liverpudlian gay couple, its packed out every night and the food is yummy. Nice little jewellers next door too - it's where we got my engagement ring from!!

Overall, we had a wonderful time, but we wouldn’t go back. The evening were boring and we got sick &amp; tired of the hassle. If you want a holiday to really, really chill out and literally do nothing, it's definitely the place to be!! <br>
