Great holiday small enough to keep you eye on the kids. The hotel is enclosed, 2 pools, suitable for children (mine were 15,12,4, at time of holiday). Rooms really big and spacious, very clean, barbecue twice weekly eat as much as you want, if children don’t like what... more

Cornucopia wonderful hotel
from humanone
A fantastic hotel and bargain with superb service. If you don't want to pay more for those cottages, try to get a room in main building with the valley view, but you may have to make a phone call to do so because I didn't see a place to request it on the website. I agree, don't eat there for dinner but go to the center of Xaghra and eat at Oleander. Skip eating at Ta Frenc, very overpriced albeit lovely. The breakfasts at Cornucopia are geared to the British guests with their favorite breakfast foods including baked beans. An incredible extra at Cornucopia which they don't advertise (I saw a poster on the bulletin board at the check in counter) is that you can get free day passes to Ta Cenc (which is where I would stay if wealthy) a sister property on the other side of the island (half hour drive) with the most beautiful spa swimming pool I've ever seen and a lunch buffet with the freshest salads and lovely patio. If there are no jellyfish, you can swim in the sea at Ta Cenc's nearby access point (car drive past the prehistoric ruts and dolman).
a lovely place

An extremely beautiful hotel in which you won't be disappointed. Views are awesome. Very clean and everything was working fine and in very good condition. Staff were very professional, polite, helpful, kind. General manager Brian Caruana gave us an extremely good service We loved our stay in Cornucopia Comments made by Michael and Carmen Asciak from Malta.
The good & the bad things
from teake
In the tension area involving the expectations of hotel guests on one side and the offered quality of the hotel accommodation on the other, Victor Borg, the owner of Cornucopia, is walking a calculated, profit-maximization oriented line. What I’m trying to say is that he must be laughing his head off about the things he gets away with at the expense of ignorant tourists. We decided to stay at the Cornucopia based on the positive reviews of the submissions below. After having been there it becomes clear how difficult it must have been to write an objective review about the place. If you enjoyed your holiday and had a good time you’re likely to judge the short comings of the hotel as being minor. On forehand, it needs to be said that we did have a lovely holiday despite the fact that the room we stayed in, with a nice view over the valley, wasn’t worth the price we paid for it. It was equipped with worn off pine-wood furniture and had a 12” (I guess, in any case small) TV (with lots of channels though). There were stains on the bed cover (see photo), cracks in the floor tiles at the entrance of the bathroom. There was a crack in the seal between the bath tub and the tiles and water disappeared through it during showering (not our problem but certainly one for the tenants below). The mattresses were hard, damp and very unforgiving. The pillows were less than 2 inches thin. The air-conditioning couldn’t cool the room sufficiently during the night although the control was set to it’s lowest value. In one of the neighbouring rooms the fridge and the air conditioning were leaking we were told. The owner should spend a couple of nights in one of those rooms so he understands what he is doing to his guests. The courtyard area with the swimming pools was nice and the water in the lower pool was the cleanest of all three. People had written their names in the dirt on the tiles just above the waterline in one of the pools but in the middle of the week it was cleaned and the dirt on the tiles removed. The sunbathing chairs were of poor quality and not particularly solid. Money was also saved on the ill fitting parasols. The hotel gives the impression that once after it was constructed no proper maintenance has been done. Signs can be seen everywhere, years of dead leaves in the plant beds in the entrance, no watering of plants that we detected, a once decorative cartwheel moulders away, dirt on the facades in the courtyard and the other pool area (should be easy to remove using a high pressure cleaner). The hotel has a charming character being a transformed farm house and the staff of the hotel is very friendly and pleasant . It’s one of the reasons why we liked the place despite the disgrace of the room. Alain, Joanne and Joshua who served at breakfast, lunch and dinners deserve a generous (financial) compliment from their manager. We arrived on Saturday night at 10 pm and we were told that if we hurried a bit with bringing the luggage to the rooms we could still have dinner. We dined until midnight (we were the only one left in the restaurant) and when we apologized for causing them to work so long they answered as with one voice “NO PROBLEM”. What a great asset for the owner to have such people working in his hotel ! Twice a week the staff organized a lovely BBQ around the lower pool. On Tuesdays with a DJ and on Fridays with live music. It takes a lot of effort to put all tables together. The food was fine, plenty of meat and vegetables and fruit and ice cream for desert. Special mentioning should be done for the cakes and the choice in tastes that were offered for desert each night at dinner. So, to make a long story short, we enjoyed a great 7 day holiday on Gozo but we couldn’t have made 14 days due to lack of sleep. Some advice for people who want to stay at the Cornucopia: don’t accept every room that is allocated to you. Complain to the reception if you feel that you are dumped in one of the bad rooms. Ask for a room in the newly build part of the facility. Bring something with you that will make the mattresses more comfortable (a foam rubber sheet?) and be nice to the restaurant staff, they deserve it! If you're not too critical concerning some of the short comings you will have a good time at the hotel. Mr. Borg, Cornucopia has lots of potential, therefore, please, for sake of all the future guests visiting Gozo and staying in your hotel, sell the place to a young and dynamic person who has his heart in the right place, i.e. not in his wallet. With some investments it can once again become a great place to stay.
good for the price.

Gozo was lovely, and the staff at this hotel were on the whole very helpful and friendly. However, the breakfasts weren't great (cooked food sitting for ages in hot trays, stale-tasting coffee, dry little croissants) and on the basis of that we opted not to stay for an evening meal. As noted by another reviewer, the beds also gave us backache and were double rather than kingsized. We're six foot and six two so this made a difference, in very hot weather. The air conditioning and ceiling fan were both on full every night (very noisy too) and we were still too hot, whereas the kids room was nicely chilled. Decor needed redoing and there was no tea/coffee making facilities in room. Partner enjoyed permanent football on TV in the bar! Downstairs smelled a bit musty. The barbecue on the Tuesday night was accompanied by a disco playing seventies/eighties British Pop........ This hotel was reasonably priced, but I wondered whether it should be a three rather than a four star.
Cornucopia a charming and relaxing place
from Frank_from_Neauphle
What a wonderful stay ! We stayed 10 days at Cornucopia Xaghara at Gozo here are our comments: 1) The place: Cornucopia is a very nice former guesthouse, with a warm atmosphere, we immediately felt like home, it is a charming and relaxing place. 2) The Cornucopia team: They are all so kind, so helpful, taking care of everything, very efficient and professional. 3) The restaurant and the Food: Congratulation to the Chef, the Food were excellent and during our 10 days stay, we never had twice the same thing, a lot of imagination and really a success ! 4) The poolside BBQ: Every friday night, what a great evening with live music ! 5) The swimming pools: In fact there are two swimming pools, a large one surrounded by flowers and trees and a smaller one in the Cornucopia Patio, both are excellent and with the sunny and warm weather they are very much appreciated. We loved our stay in Gozo and Cornucopia Dont change anything it is perfect ! Comments made by Francois and Michele from Neauphle le Chateau France

We have been going to Gozo for the last 14 years and always stay at the Cornucopia in the bungalows. Been reluctant to write before as it is a hidden gem and long may it continue. Views are spectacular and staff unbelievably courtious and friendly. The whole island is tranquil with lots of good restaurants for all budgets. Ta franc has long been the place to be seen though expensive worth visit for that special occasion. Our favourite now is It Mun in Victoria. First class not cheap but very classy and good food massive wine list. Gozo will suit anybody who does not want loud bars slot machines rowdy drunks and squashed in sunloungers. The island is beautiful and theCornucopia very different from the norm.
Going back next year
from SeasideView
After thoroughly enjoying our first visit to Gozo and the Cornucopia hotel last April/May we were determined to return the following year which we did. We were not disappointed! The hotel is a marvellous place to go for a peaceful, relaxing holiday. It is situated in a superb location on a hillside with extensive views of the valley below. The courtesy of the staff leaves nothing to be desired from the moment you step into the hotel to the moment you leave. They cannot do enough for you and no request is too trivial. The accommodation is comfortable and kept beautifully clean. The rooms are located on two floors around a picturesque courtyard. The food in the hotel is extremely good and the choice both for breakfast and evening meal is varied, well prepared and presented and served with courtesy and consideration. We intend to return again next year.
NIce one!

Beautiful views in a very peaceful location with friendly staff. Large bedroom (No.28) but damp feeling and the bed gave us backache. There are better rooms (at front) so ensure this when booking - they might possibly be a bit more money but probably worth it. Hotel, I feel , has seen better days and needs a good spring clean throughout and better maintenance of faciliities in bedrooms. Food OK and good value, but off-season the dining room is a bit morgue-like, so we'd go out to eat. None of this impaired a lovely holiday on Gozo.
a complete getaway
from ramseyj
If you are looking for somewhere to get away from it all then the Cornucopia is the perfect place for complete relaxation. Situated away from the main square of Xaghra, the views across the valley to Marselform are truely beautiful, with little to do but to absorb them along with the relaxed ways of the lovely Gozotan people. Being a converted farmhouse, the Cornucopia has retained many of its rustique features with atmospheric stone arches and wooden beams( a pleasent change from the rather grand marble reception areas of some hotels that offer little else!) The staff are freindly welcoming and polite, the rooms basic but very clean and the food good and reasonably priced. I dont know if we were also just lucky with the time of year ( early September) but during our stay the pool areas were not in the least crowded and when we did swim in one of their 3 pools we often had them to ourselves. With a wide range of accomidation ranging from rooms to appartments to bungalows, I would definitely return to this lovely hotel.
Beautiful view, accomodations & facilities

We loved the Cornucopia. It's views were breathtaking, and the converted farmhouse facilities were beautifully planted.Everything was in good working conditions (AC/Plumbing/Pool/etc) and the facilities were kept scrupulously clean. We would highly recommend the Cornucopia to both couples and families alike - our only recommendation would be to skip the over priced, over cooked hotel restaurant meals.

Hubby, myself and 16 yr old daughter + her 16 yr old friend holidayed here. It was delightful, different, quiet, clean, lovely food and wine. We were so rested and enjoyed the place so much. The girls loved it, we initially thought that it might be too quiet for them, but... more
