Dirty, ran down, bad location, staff is not helpful and lying. Room is like hell, stains of dead bugs, paint peeling, mold in the bathroom, closet broken, front door half-broken, bathroom not equipped, carpet dirty and tears in the carpet. Conditions are impossible to tolerate. Cockraoch motel pretending to be a hotel.
Very convenient location
from Philippus
I found this hotel after browsing the internet and the main reasons to choose Al Sole were the price and the location. It's cheaper than most other hotels in old town Venice and the location is very convenient if you're arriving on public transport, very close to Piazzale Roma. Most commentaries I read here are very recognisable: the rooms are small (but with high ceilings), not luxurious but they have 'character', shower is good and powerful (although it flooded the bathroom somewhat), staff are friendly and the breakfast is good, a...

Tall room , Short room .
from Bluerondo
We have just returned from Venice where we had a fantastic time . We stayed at the Hotel Al Sole for 3 nights and found it to be a bit of a mixed bag . The good points were that it is within easy walking distance of Ferrovia and the water bus stop . It has a very nice garden in which to eat the excellent breakfast provided , and the room was very clean and overlooked one of the side canals .Now for the not so good bits . This is the only room I have ever stayed in that is taller than it is long . This was a Superior room which had recently...

Three Days in Venice
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned from a three day break staying at the Hotel Al Sole. It was in an ideal quiet location about 25 minutes walk from St. Marks Square. From the airport we jumped on a bus which took us to the Piazalli Roma (3 euros) It was then a short ten minute walk to the hotel. The hotel is only bed and breakfast, but there are many good restaurants and cafes in the vicinity. Our room although small was clean and adequately furnished with a view overlooking the canal. From our window we were able to watch the gondola's...

Worst Experience I have ever had with a Hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
To say that our experience with the Hotel Al Sole was bad would be severe understatement. When we arrived we found our room to be extremely small and not very clean. What was worse was that when we went into our room to turn on the air conditioning we found that it wasn't working. Needless to say, the staff downstairs neglected to tell us this when we were booking the room. Unfortunately, it was unusually hot in Venice while we were there which made being in our room nearly unbearable. We spoke to the staff and they told us that the air...

Not bad
from A TripAdvisor Member
The staff is very friendly and provide great service. The location is in a nice, quiet area within a 20 minute walk to Venice center. The rooms and bathrooms are clean but very small and very old. This was a 3-star hotel but it felt more like a 2-star except that the service was very good. Venice hotels are very expensive and this was more than double the price of any other hotel we stayed in other Italy cities! Overall not good value but I suspect this may be the case in most Venice hotels.
Lovely hotel in a quiet spot
from snappy123
We just returned from three nights in Venice and the Al Sole was a great place to stay. We chose because it was away from the hordes, but it is actually in very easy walking distance to the less obvious, but very atmospheric parts of Venice. The hotel is in a lovely buillding and our room, although small was tastefully decorated with a really comfortable bed and lovely outlook over the garden (standard room). Our only complaint was the lack of storage for clothes, no wardrobe or chest of drawers, quite inconvenient, but not the end of...

Don't book this hotel
from anne_gray
Don't book this hotel.......online. I booked a twin bedded room through Opodo, to give my friend a thank-you treat, and paid 150 euros per night, not a fortune but not cheap either. When we arrived, we were given a double bedded room at the top, small, dingy, and furnished with 1970's broken furn iture. The light bulb in the shabby bathroom had a faulty fitting, so despite a requested change of bulbs, there was no bathroom light. I gathered that the lower rooms, overlooking the canal, were much better, as was the impressive decor of the...

Our room was lovely...
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just returned from a short trip to Venice and wanted to share my thoughts about the Hotel Al Sole (since we looked to TripAdvisor for guidance on hotels). I'll start with the positives: 1) The hotel was very close to the bus station -- a 10 minute walk; 2) We were 20-25 minutes to San Marco square; 3) The continental breakfast was more than adequate; 4) Our room was clean, lovely and much larger than most european hotel rooms, I thought, and very modern; 5) Staff was, for the most part, friendly; 6) The hotel location is near lots of...

Not luxurious but full of character - a great place!
from creative27
Stayed at the Hotel Al Sole with my nephew (age 21) from Nov 1-12th and we both loved the hotel and would happily return. Our first night arriving late was spent in a slightly dingy smallish room on the first floor but our request for a different room was accepted without problem and we moved to the 2nd floor overlooking the garden - much better room with high ceilings and a bit more space. We stayed in a standard room, it's not luxurious but simple and spotlessly clean and comfortable - clean sheets daily, small fridge, dinky...
