Returned from the Golf Residence on the 24th July 2011 after one weeks stay !! When we arrived we was quickly checked in and shown to our room, polite and friendly reception staff and porter. We was in room 167 facing the front of the hotel and aqua park. The park opens at about 9ish and plays loud music till around 6pm. But we r a young couple so this didnt bother us at all. Room was very clean and just a typical tunisian hotel room really, pretty much what i expected !!! Maid came in every day with clean towels and was lovely and the room was always cleaned to a good standard !! Bed was comfy and the linen was of good quality ! Room had air con tv and a fridge. The food was not great to be fair, didnt have much choice but was plentyful. Didnt have to fight to get in was always a seat. We did eat out 4nites of the 7 tho !! Food was cheap out and alot more choice !! Pool area was fab didnt have to be out at crack of dawn for a bed could always get one no matter what time we went down !! Entertainment was not very good but the animation team are fab and friendly and they work alot of hours for a rubbish wage so u have to guve them credit. Hotel offers a free horse and cart to the beach with is beautiful !! There are water sports goin on too we did paragliding and jet ski and its pretty cheap to do !! We booked this as a cheap last min deal and we got everything we paied for !! I would go to Tunisia again but id wait a few years untill they get back on there feet, its like a up and coming place again, But all in all we had a fab time

we stayed here for one week half board we picked this hotel because of the name golf residence thinking it would be part of a golf resort full of nice quiet golfing types well what a mistake the nearest golf course is about 10 mins walk away and the hotel is full of noisey types slaming doors shouting and screaming till all hours kids an all. the rooms were like a diy nightmare and were in need of a seriuos overhaul or dynamite not sure which the electrics were very dodgy and dangerous the bedding was ripped the shower curtain had never been near a washing machine the bath had been painted and was peeling dont take any notice of any photos of this hotel as they are a long time out of date. this was our second room 231 as our first room 238 was over the top of a night club that kept us awake until 4am which could still be heard from our second room there is also a theme park over the road which goes on way into the night. the food was plentifull but at best bland and i for one dont want cabbage califlour or tastless hot dog sausages for breakfast if we ever go back to tunisia which we might as the holiday itself along with the tunisian people was good we would not stay at the golf residence hotel if it was the last one standing.

My wife and two children stayed at the Golf Residence on April 17th to the 24th, 2011. The hotel is a basic 3 Star hotel and good value for the money. We got a Thomas Cook package holiday - 7 nights including flights, transfers, breakfast and dinner for £221/per person.
The breakfast and dinner at the Golf Residence was excellent. The staff at the hotel were friendly and the Thomas Cook agent helpful. If you want luxury, then stay at the Hilton - but if you want a nice, low cost Holiday then this hotel is fine.

Just returned from this hotel, went out december 26th 2010 returned january 2nd 2011. Would definetely not recommend to anyone and would definetely not return. The rooms are very dull and in definate need of a refurb, walldrobes, drawers and doors had been painted in an ugly turqouise colour probs to hide the holes and cracks, bath had been painted white so every time you got in you got out full of cracked paint. the dust in the room (well) we wrote clean me in the dust on the first day of our hol it was still there when we came away. we both have light coloured hair, yet everytime the cleaner came and went we had a carpet of black hair everywhere.
The food was ok if you like eggs for breakfast, hard boiled, scrambled, fried, omlettes all with hot dogs.
entertainment was terrible, it was 2 of the staff dressing up and dancing to different themes every night. This hotel does not cater for the english, live entertainment was tunisian singers, tunisian dancers, you get locals coming into hotel for the entertainment and they totally take over the place the english are pushed aside and forgotten about, trying to get a drink was a task in the hotel, if a local called a waiter and you called a waiter you had no chance you might as well of gone to the supermarket down the road you would of got a drink quicker. not much to do outside of hotel unless you like to look at the same shop over and over again and to get pestered until you do buy something. Honestly i would not recommend this hotel to anyone, ive stayed in some places that we hadn't paid much for and they beat this hotel hands down.

we have just come back from this hotel and after reading some reviews before going we was abit unsure.
we shunt have worries we had a fab time! we was there for 2 weeks and the entertainment was different every night. the animation team was great especially sam and memo. food was nothing special but plenty of choice for every1 and different choices every night. mohamed the waiter was brill 2. rooms are very dated but cleaned eeryday with freash towels and bedding. we had 2 rooms 1 above the nightclub and opposite the water park andhad no problems with any noise like some have mentioned. be aware that this is a relaxing holiday and is defiantely not wot u find in turkey, spain greece ect no full english or happy hours, so if ur not willing to experiance oat new then dont go. we found eating out and booze 2 b very expansive, especially around marina and fountain.hotel has activies for kids and adults throughout the whole day also buggys/quads are well worth booking. hope this helps x

We have just got back from two weeks at the Golf Res....went with my dad and daughter aged 10....
Having been to Egypt 2 years running we felt like a change, the hotel seemed good value, which it was.....food was great, buffet style but always different food......puddings were ok!!!
The hotel definately needs a re-vamp and the rooms were a disapointment but for what we wanted it was ok after the initial look.....door has the old key sytem...
Corridors mind due poorly lit if at all and several of us/guests have fallen or tripped....
The main reception area nice, safes were available in a side room near reception, but staff well unfriendly is an understatement, the reception staff did not even crack a smile or hello....
The pool area was lovely but you had to get UP early to bag your loungers as if you didnt you wouldnt get any.....you have to pay 1 dinar, 50p for the comfy mattress..... The entertainment staff were always working hard and very entertaining both day and night....The manager left alot to be desired, thought he was god's gift and worked the boys really hard.....
The hotel was situated in a great place and I am glad I picked Port El Kantoui and not Sousse...we were directly opposite to the Aqua park and a 5 min walk to the fun fair and Marina....both lovely and the fountain show with lights to music was great.....
We did two trips, Past and Present which was a day trip to Tunis, Carthage and Sidi Bou Said....a great day....
Then a 2 day Sahara trip, went to El Djem, Matmata (to caves where 3,000 people still live, star war set, then Camel Caravan which was great fun for an hour all dressed in the gear) then to a 5* hotel for a quick swim, change and an amazing meal...bed eraly as had to be up at 4 to leave for 5am to see the sun set, then onto salt desert, and horse and carriage through an oassis where we had a lesson about DATES which was great fun, then onto the 4x4 for 2hrs of pure laughter, up and down over rough terrain and then the best bit over and down the sand dunes.... then back onto coach and a drive back through to our hotel....well recommended.....
I dont think I would go back to Tunisia straight away, but it was a great time and we did enjoy and met some great people. If I did I would pay more and go to another hotel in the area.....
- Advice: great pool and activities, great location

After a security delay at Stansted, my friend, myself and the 5 teenagers between us arrived at Golf Residence a bit jaded!
However that was the one and only time during the week we felt that way!
The holiday was fantastic! Port El Kantaoui is a lovely friendly, lively place with no hassle factor at all. The hotel was brilliant and, to us, it exceeds its 3 star rating. The selection of food on offer every night was always outstanding and nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff. The Animation team were fantastic, especially the one and only Crazy James!
The water park was brilliant and worth our 2 trips. The ride to the beach was ok but did remind us that not all countries are quite so tight on animal welfare.
Camel riding in 100+ degrees was a experience. The BBC weather site here did seem to underestimate the Tunisian temp by around 5+ degrees so be warned, if you dont like 40+ every day then July probably isnt for you. Thankfully, as long as we had the sea or the pool, we all loved the heat! Sleeping was no trouble as everywhere has air con.
A truly brilliant week and one we hope to be repeating in 2011 - well done yet again Tunisia!

My husband and l have just returned from a week's half board at the Golf Residence. While we were determined to enjoy ourselves - it could easily have been a disaster if we had let outside influences take over.
Firstly, our flight from Cork was delayed by over 3 hours, which l believe is a very very regular occurrence, with little or no contact or explanation. l can only assume the crew was out of hours and no relief crew, but it is amazing it is always the Cork flight that suffers, as the very same thing happend on the return journey. On arrival at the hotel which was approximately 5.a.m. we were allocated a room which was practically in the Car Park - even though we were very very tired l approached the check-in desk and he said use it until morning and you can come after breakfast ( in other words - when l have gone home ). We had no choice but to do this. We were only staying for one week and this was one night out of it. We were then given a room overlooking the pool, this l had to request.
This room was ok, even though it could do with a very good make-over, it was very very tired looking. The shower ( a bit of white plastic tube) was like something from Green Shield Stamps of long ago. No hairdryer etc. - something you would expect this day and age. Over the week we had to call reception twice regarding a colony of ants in the room and bathroom.
On the plus side the food was excellent.
On the first morning we made our way to the Meet and Greet meeting with the Panorama rep ( Thomas Cook). To say it was a waste of time was an understatement. He spent the time pushing the tours, introducing us to the Jewellers, Spa people and telling us how good a dancer he was, not a mention of safety, availability of medics, or doctors, or any other useful information, we were after all a long way from home and not exactly 21.
Finally, on the last day just before we were due to board our bus we were approached by the Porter, aided and helped by the receptionist asking for the price of a bottle of water which we had not used. Now this was only pence 1 dinar 300, which is a little over 60 pence, but we definitely had not used it, and when we explained this they both got very aggressive indeed. Reading a review from a previous guest, this is definitely a skam between the porters and receptionists, so beware - we discovered afterwards they tried the same with a few others, some they succeeded with out of fright and embarrassment.
This is an honest review of the hotel - and after all that - we would go back now that we are more aware and know what to watch out for. The resort is very nice and really the shopkeepers and restaurant owners do try to hassle but we found if you just walk on and a polite no is sufficient - will they ever learn - we buy if we want to. Even if you visit the Soula Centre in Sousse, even though items are priced they still descend on you and do not give you space to make up your own mind.
l hope you will find this helpful and that it wont put you off your holiday - Tunisia is very nice, very good value for money - but if l had a choice l would probably stay at a slightly better hotel.

the title of my review sums the holiday up , the staff were brilliant especially MEMO and JAMES from the animation team , the food was brilliant but it was the same during the whole holiday but that wasnt a problem as there was a wide selection to choose from , we went it june it was so hot :O, there was alot for kids to do as there was a water park across the road and a carnaval at the bottom of the road also there was a kids club in the hotel and a mini disco at night , the only problem would be the marina at night as u will get hassled but just say NO! and walk away , also dont pay the price as they give u always go lower and lower . we are returning on october and next year as it was that good , hope my review was helpful and have a great holiday !!

after reading reviews on this website i was dreading going to this hotel! we arrived at lunchtime and the staff couldnt be more helpful, hotel looks lovely from the outside and it had a really goood atmosphere! our room was huge with a huge balcony facing the pool and then one on the otherside facing the waterpark! the poolside was brilliant and we spent everyday there! the animation team James Memo and Bassem were amazing! lovely lovely people and very hardworking! the food was really tasty and there was a wide range which was goood. this hotel is one of the best i have stayed at and fair enough its not a 5 star but i would not say the amount of terrible things other people have wrote about it... i will defo be returning next year and cannot wait for it!!

My friend and I stayed at this hotel Jan 25th 2012 for a week. It was not expensive, but it was certainly below its 3* rating. We have holidayed in Tunisia between us, 14 times. This was the worst hotel we have stayed in.
On the plus side, it was quiet and away from traffic. The restaurant staff were friendly and the room staff were efficient and replaced the linen every day. Bad smell coming out of sink drain, so we kept the plug in and the smell out.
We are non-smokers. Beware the only non-smoking areas were the restaurant and the lifts!
We are not young, we are in our 50s, but this hotel was full of over 70's. We felt we had booked into a Care Home. It was also full of disabled Lebyans who were no doubt having restbite care after last year's revolution. We nick-named it Stick City! We have no objection to older people at all, but feel this should have been pointed out to us in England before we chose this hotel.
We unfortunately, had a wet and cold week. This meant that we had to stay indoors out of the rain. The hotel was cold, the only warm place was our room. This proved our sanctuary, at least it was warm and smoke-free.
The food was adequate, and plenty of choice at dinner. Not so much choice at breakfast - super if you like eggs - boiled, fried, scrabbled and omelettes. The food was lukewarm for the first few days, but people complained, and the problem was rectified.
There was no entertainment, despite it being advertised. Only in-house animation staff or the rep organising Bingo, quizzes, or Karaoke.
Beware of cigarette sellers on the beach and in the streets. They ask you if you want to buy. Then ask if you are English. Then ask if you have just arrived. They then show you a euro coin and ask if you will exchange it into dinars. When you open your purse or wallet, they will dive in and take your notes or the whole wallet. They will be friendly to women tourists and give them a hug, that is when they will whip your handbag or bumbag. Be careful.
