Ringland woods

I recently stayed at the Hilton hotel Newport for a long weekend. The hotel itself is realy lovely. We visited the local walk in Ringland Woods and we were very impressed.
It is very assesable and the walk ways through the woods are very well laid out.
We spent a very nice few hours walking and feel it is well worth a visit.

Dated and Poor Service
3 / 10
Aug 2009, N. Groves

The hotel failed to reach the standards we expected from Hilton. The room we had was very dated and poorly decorated. The bathroom was dirty with a combination of body hair and mould evident. The service at the hotel was good at Reception but the gentleman who operated the bar was rude and offensive. At 10pm he complained about us ordering four coffees at a cost of £4.50 each and complained throughout the making of them. All the food and drink items were very overpriced for a family going on a holiday. The variety at breakfast was good but the service was once again very poor. This hotel needs investment of training for staff and updating of fascilities. What example will this give to American visitors coming to the Ryder Cup next year? It is a disgrace!

Great value for money
8 / 10
Jul 2009, Dands

My husband and I booked in for just one night with our daughter of 15year. The lobby was rather impressive. However the corridors were really tatty and looked desperate for redecoration. The room we had was huge with 2 king size beds nicely decorated however, the mattresses were a little tired and we had a bit of role together. The leisure facilities were lovely as was the breakfast the next morning. The only problem we encountered at breakfast was that the toasting machine was rubbish, but the choice available for breakfast was excellent. We booked through laterooms and only paid £47.00 for the three of us.

Value for money?

I stayed for one night and ate in the restaurant. The food was nicely cooked and well presented. My room was fine apart from the fact that there was hair on the bathroom floor (not anywhere else though). Could have done with a bit of redecoration.
The hotel staff were generally pleasant and appeared helpful. During my short stay there were several small errors e.g. the wrong amount against my credit card when I arrived, the new potatoes were forgotten with my main course.
I don't blame individual members of staff except when I was left standing for five minutes waiting to be seated at breakfast after being told would be attended to "in a moment" and then ignored by about five members of staff. By this time a queue had formed and we decided to seat ourselves. I had almost finished breakfast before I was offered tea or coffee.
I would suggest that the Hilton employs another receptionist to avoid the wait to check in and out and reduce the pressure on the single receptionist. I would also recommend that they train their restaurant staff better.
Overall not great, but not horrendous either. Maybe £30 for the room would have been fair.
My one real complaint is the price of one glass of house red - £6.25!!! Ouch.

The Hilton Newport is a nice looking...
7 / 10
Feb 2008, Mr M Eland

The Hilton Newport is a nice looking hotel from the outside, inside is a bit of a mix.
The lobby area is nicely decorated and well presented, however the corridors and rooms are a little dated. They could do with a bit of touching up and modernisation.
The food was great, very large selection of things to choose from for all meals. Snacks were available from the bar area, however these were rather pricey; as are all Hiltons so nothing different there.
Included in the stay we were able to make use of the Living Well gym area with a nice size pool and gym, were you received your complimentary towel so you didnt have to carry your own around if you were constantly on the move.
All staff were friendly, polite and willing to help, no problems with the staff at all.
Overall, a nice and pleasant stay.

The Hilton Newport is an average...
7 / 10
Jan 2008, Mr M Spedding

The Hilton Newport is an average Hilton hotel, some areas are really good and others are very average.
The hotel lobby is nice and well presented, all the staff are pleasant.
Rooms are a little dated now, but were clean and the housekeeping staff were very good.
Food was of a good quality especially the breakfast which has a very wide range to choose from.
Bar was well stocked but very expensive, like all Hiltons; but again the staff were very polite and helpful.
Good exercise facilities and swimming pool (Living Well)
Overall, good stay, but could have done with a refurb in places.

Initial impression of lobby was good...
2 / 10
Jun 2006, Mrs M Farrow

Initial impression of lobby was good but room was awful - not just needing a refurb - it needed a good clean - found socks in drawer and old biscuits on floor under dresser. Mould in bathroom, on shower rail, ceiling, wall.
Again initial impression of restaurant was good - lots of food on breakfast servery - also evening carvery looked plentiful - but spotted old chip and tomato and various other pieces of food under servery which stayed for the 2 nights we were there.
Had 2nd dinner over the road at Travel Inns Beefeater which was good and place seemed clean. Have wrote to complain to Hilton - definitely not as good as other Hiltons we have stayed in. I have received a very nice letter from the manager of the Hilton apologizing for the lack of cleanliness in the Hotel that we found and he has said that the hotel is about to get a refurb and he is ensuring that the lack of cleanliness is going to be put right.
The refurb sounds very extensive so I might take a chance next year and try the Hilton Newport again.
