Not worth it, even for the convenience
from tiger178
We stayed here the night before leaving the UK to return to the States since it was convenient for an early morning flight. I won't do it again. The room was simply not clean and management's response to our problem was extremely lackadaisical. The hotel seemed understaffed and was poorly maintained. Never again.
Executive rooms are excellent!
from Matt-7
As with most other people who have reviewed this hotel I spent one night there before catching an early flight. As I was with my girlfriend I decided to upgrade to an Executive room and was in the new wing of the hotel. The facilities were excellent and the staff very attentive. Free drinks and canapes in the evening and breakfast in the morning in the executive lounge were an added bonus. We went across and checked-in for our flight and then came back for breakfast. It couldn't have been more enjoyable! Having read the other reviews my advice is to pay the £30-£40 upgrade fee if you can.
Convenient, but nothing else
from jmace
I have stayed at this hotel twice, once in 2002 and again in late December, 2004. In both cases, sheerly for the convenience. I wonder if there are two different hotels, as widely divergent as the reviews seem to be. I, unfortunately fall on the side of having had miserable experiences both times. The lobby, while nicely appointed, was stiflingly hot on both trips (both in the Winter), and full of cigarette smoke. The check-in time was long and the lobby/registration area was extremely crowded. The rooms have seen better days. The wallpaper was peeling, and it just seemed dirty. The bed was hard as a rock. It felt like a piece of plywood had been put under about a 4 inch thick mattress. I have a generally good impression of Hilton hotels overall, but if need to stay in that area again and can find something relatively close, I will stay somewhere else.
Excellent

We were greeted by a lovely elderly concierge who went out of his way to assist us get parked in the long term parking at the airport. We then spent a very pleasant night in an executive room in the modern wing of the hotel. All in all this was an excellent pre-flight hotel and I would not hesitate to stay there again. Despite the negative comments, I have used HolidayExtras a number of times and found the service excellent. The ease of check-in due to the short walk to the terminal is the icing on the cake. I have stayed in some truly terrible airport hotels but I would go back to the Gatwick Hilton.
expensive, overrated but conveniant
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Gatwick Hilton prior to flying out to Cuba. Check-in was very easy as was parking our car at the summer special car park. I was disappointed with the size of our room, although it was clean and comfortable. The shower was hot but with very little water pressure. The room was advertised as having a playstation, but only when you get there do you realise you have to pay £5 for an hour! The bar and restaurants were very expensive (we ended up eating in the airport). As this is a Hilton hotel I hadn't expected the rooms to be quite so basic. However, it is extremely conveniant being able to wheel your cases straight from the hotel into the check-in area. One word of warning. We ended up waiting 45 mins for the summer special courtesy coach when we landed back at Gatwick (it's advertised as running every 20 mins)

Arrived late at this hotel after a long flight from Egypt. I had confirmed my reservation by telephone with the Hilton on the morning before leaving. I had booked my stay through Holidayextras and prepaid. On arriving at the hotel I was told that my reservation was not valid for that date despite the telephone confirmation earlier that day. I ended up with no choice but to pay for my room twice. The reservation staff were so rude and I was so uncorfortable that I spent only 5 sleepless hours in the room before leaving. I would have been better off sleeping on a chair in the terminal building. Point 1. Do not use holidayextras - their service is faulty and can lead to the issue of invalid reservations with hotels. Point 2. Do not use The Hilton group - If the above happens they will do nothing to help you.
Bad service, no manners auwfull

Well! were do i start! being cabin crew i tend to travel alot. After a 10 hour flight all you want to do is sleep! but noooooooo the maids are out with the hoover banging against your door! Also it took 1hr and 30 mins for an iron and ironing board! after ringing 3 times it turned up! then after that I locked myself out of my room! (i know my fault) wait for it.... so i went to my friends room to use her phone to tell the staff to let me in. so after that i ran back to my room and i waited and waited and i waited then i saw somebody and asked them if they could let me in my room and he said yes 20 minutes later "knock knock knok" i answerd the door and some bright spark said do you still nedd to be let in your room??!?!?! (I MEAN WHAT IS ALL THAT ABOUT!!!!) The hotel staff are unbelivbly unhelphull and the food is very expensive. even though it is located in the airport i would rather stay somewhere else belive me there are better places!!!
Don't go on reputation alone!
from el_deebo
My wife and I stayed at the Hilton on our wedding night before flying out to the Dominican Republic the following morning. We checking in around 11pm, with a very blunt receptionist who waved us in the vague direction of our room. Once there we found the key wouldn't open the door, and when i went back to see what the matter was, they hadn't actually checked us in yet! The duvet cover in the room was disgusting, and full of cigarette burns. The towels were like sandpaper and the toilet paper even worst than the stuff you used to get at school. You'd think providing decent toilet paper wouldn't damage their profits too much!! The breakfast we ordered was tiny and a complete rip off. They even charged me twice for it - they automatically checked us out at 8.05am and charged it to my card and we were disturbed by someone coming to clean the room at approx 8.10am. When we actually went to check out at 8.25am I paid by cash and returned from my holiday to see I had already paid for it 20 minutes earlier! We went with this hotel for the convenience of its position and its reputation. Do not be fooled - the only thing good about it is the 5 minute walk out of it to departures!
Extremely Convenient!

We stayed here for 2 nights before we flew off on our honeymoon. The Hilton's convenient location meant that it was only a 2 minute walk to the south terminal, which was one less thing to worry about before checking in at 4am! We had never stayed in a Hilton hotel before and were a little disappointed with the standard room, which was fairly basic. However the fabulous facilities more than made up for this, ie gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, plunge pool....! We had a voucher for a free breakfast from the booking company and this was delicious (buffet style. all you can eat - I had 3 helpings!)

Good location – you can walk straight to the airport terminal. Nice reception and lobby area. Room was pleasant if ordinary. Staff friendly and professional.

You can literally fall out of bed into the airport terminal; this hotel is so close (connected by walkway). It is quite expensive but does offer a stay and fly package. Rooms are adequate, with all "mod cons". I would certainly say do noteat or drink here. The prices are... more
