" Where do we start?

... "

Where do we start?

Just come back from a week at this hotel and straight back on the tranquillisers.

We have (now) read reviews about this hotel here and on other sites and wished we had read them before we went. Our week was a nightmare.

The other reviews only touch on the surface but we are compelled to let you know.

Firstly it is a long old transfer to this hotel (it took us an hour and a half).

When we got there, there were no porters to help with the luggage, it was late at night and we could not even get a drink of water. The rooms were similar to that of a 2 star (it’s meant to be 4 or 5 star according to who you book with) with plug sockets hanging of the wall and we had to navigate through pitch black corridors to find our room in the first place.

Got up early for breakfast and discovered that this was inedible so settled for a coffee and a glass of orange juice (the later of which we had to pay for). Went to reception to complain and were told that is standard Tunisian cuisine which is rubbish as we go out to Tunisia every year.

Lunch and dinner was no better and the way that some of the chefs handle the food allows you to understand why many off the guest’s were getting food poisoning.

Decided we will endure until the rep comes in and went to the bar for a drink, I had a glass of wine which was undrinkable and my husband was actually sick after taking a gulp of the beer (believe me he is use to drinking different good and bad beers).

We asked if there was any other drinks we could have and were told not unless “you pay for them” (hang on, this is meant to be all inclusive).

THE REP: Mohammed appeared and there were about fifteen people who like us wanted to complain or move but were told that as it was the busy season there was nothing available. Some of us called our travel agents in the UK and were told “we haven’t had any problems during the past and it is down to the local rep to sort it out”

We have since found out by contacting other people that these problems have been going on since the beginning of the season.

To say any more would only be repeating what other reviewers, have said here and elsewhere but, suffice to say it is the worst holiday we have ever had and we were just glad that we did not bring the kids with us as there was no entertainment for them and none for us as English speaking customers.

We are complaining to ABTA about this as our travel agent is just fobbing us off.

Take our advice, don’t go to this hotel.

" WOW
Me, the wife and 3 kids... "

WOW
Me, the wife and 3 kids just got back from this hotel on a two week break and met some friends who had spent two weeks prior to us who left the day after we arrived and boy did we have some problems.

I cannot believe the review from Mr Parmar (no disrespect intended) as he must have been there the same time as either us or our friends.

What can we say?

Food poisoning, a useless rep very little choice of drinks and those that were available, like the food was disgusting. No entertainment for the kids, the pools were filthy, the staff offensive. I think we meet the same waiter that went around offending the kids that other reviewers have mentioned.

As other people have said, if your English you haven’t got a chance.

The a-la-carte food is not much better and you have to pay for it.

Where it gets rating from, heaven knows as there are three stars in the area that are 100% better.

I would disagree about the star rating as we go to Tunisia every year and most of the time a 3-4 star is as good if not better than a UK 5 star.

I could say a lot more but it’s already been said except I better mention the fights between some guests and the staff.

Don’t go its 1 star, or 2 if you have to rate the orange juice that you have to pay for.

" Have just come back from a wonderful... "

Have just come back from a wonderful two week all inclusive holiday.

The hotel was very good - ok not quite a 5 star would probably rate it as a 3 or a 3 plus. You have to remember that a Tunisian 5 star hotel would not be the same as a 5 star in London.

The hotel was very clean and tidy - three swimming pools, which my kids and myself thoroughly enjoyed and made the most of. The selection of food was quite good as was the beer. The seven course meal in the a-la-carte restaurant was very delicious and filling (I didn’t have to get up for breakfast the next day !) The freshly made nann bread was very nice which they made some evenings - and the chefs cooked some lovely fresh omelettes in front you for breakfast were great !

The staff were very friendly - ok they didn’t speak much English - but they could speak more English than I could Tunisian - all credit to them !

Yasmine Hammamet is an upcoming resort, which I think will be very popular in a year or so.

I was very worried after reading some of the reviews - but I have learnt my lesson I will take reviews with a pinch of salt. Its what you make of your holiday not just go out there to criticise.

I would certainly recommend this hotel and Tunisia in general is a wonderful country.

" This was advertised as a 5* AI hotel,... "

This was advertised as a 5* AI hotel, unfortunately this is way overrated. In my personal opinion from mine and my daughter’s recent visit to this hotel I would class it as a maximum 2*.

On arrival we were sent to another hotel, which was not part of the Med Hotel group and was not AI, to be put in a room, which I can only describe as a Health & Safety issue. The supposed Mini bar door fell directly onto my daughters small toe nail causing instant bruising which at the end of the week was hanging off and had to have medical attention, I went to the toilet and the metal toilet roll holder came apart in my hands, the dressing mirror was hanging on by a nail, the hairdryer was held to the wall by one electric wire the shower was not working and finally when I went to complain the phone did not work.

This was only the beginning it did get worse!! After eventually being accepted into the hotel on our 3rd day we attempted to eat in the restaurant but unfortunately all the food was non-descript, the AI drinks was minimal of one local beer (even though they supposedly have an onsite brewery) and only 3 local alcoholic drinks, none of which you could make any decent AI cocktail with, this you would have to purchase at quite a considerable price. We were charged for fresh orange juice even though the oranges were grown locally!

We decided to eat A La Carte the following evening (How we wish we hadn’t) my daughter was molested by one of the waiters by him man handling her breasts and thought it funny the food again was atrocious. By the next day my daughter was feeling quite ill and was taken to her bead to rest.

On the Friday evening once again we thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt oh dear all I can describe what we witnessed next would surely turn anyone’s stomach, the head chef was serving food to two ITALIAN girls when he dropped a pastry item on the floor, he then waited for the girls to walk away and looked around him before placing the food item back into the full serving tray of food YUK!!! NO WONDER ALL AND SUNDRY WERE ILL!

Obviously I complained to only fall on death ears the director Mr Reidhr gave me his mobile phone to speak with Mohammad the rep (whom we hadn’t seen all week) I was informing him of this incident when low and behold Mr. Reidhr took the phone from me as it was running up his bill and in no polite terms stated I was forbidden to speak with anyone in the hotel regarding this incident and to go elsewhere I mean I had already been in 3 rooms by this time! You ask yourself can it get any worse YES is my answer, the following day Mr. Reidhr summoned me to his office to apologize for his actions and sent bowls of fruit and opened bottles of wine to our room (I mean we can get all this in the restaurant should we be brave enough to consume it), we took him on his offer to eat again that evening but only pushed the food around our plate to pacify him as we were unsure what lengths the Tunisians would go to as we had documented all the events up until then and Mr Reidhr was fully aware of this.

After supper I also was feeling unwell and had to retire to my room and was up most of the night very ill and still am now, and has been confirmed as food poisoning by my GP.

On Sunday our day of return (thank god) the transfer coach arrived very late and also very full, there were 4 seats available and 14 people plus luggage to get on this was absurd. We again spoke with our invisible rep Sabri who was very aggressive and confirmed he would send a 12 eater minibus to pick the last 8 people up.

After the coach disappearing out of sight one of the hotel staff came outside to inform us that no minibus was coming and that we must make our own way at our own cost to Monastic airport and with very little time left we were panicking. Two taxi’s arrived luggage was thrown in and off we set.

After 10 minutes our cab managed to get a flat tire, we will never know if all of this was sabotage to frighten us due to the complaints that were made at the hotel. The taxi did not make the run in time for our flight and no med rep would take responsibility for what had occurred. The next flight to Manachester had also closed and we were made to pay for our own flight to Birmingham as this was the last flight out of this god forsaken country back to England. We took it and then had to make our own way back to Manchester via trains at silly o’clock hours very ill and very tired.

IF YOU HAVE ANY SENSE ABOUT YOU DO NOT USE MED HOTELS AND DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL YOU MAY NOT SURVIVE!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily we have to tell you this and warn you

" Yasmine Beach Hotel, 4 star, no... "

Yasmine Beach Hotel, 4 star, no way

Worst hotel we ever stayed in.
Must admit we had read some of the reviews about this place and tried to change it before we went but our tour operator was, to say the least, unhelpful. Noted one review that said they liked it and thought well maybe it’s not that bad.

I can only think that the reviewer must have had their eyes closed

My eight year old got assaulted by a waiter, most of the food was inedible and what little few drinks their were as part of the AI were disgusting.

Yes it is true, they do charge you for orange juice at breakfast etc etc.

There is little point in me repeating the comments of other reviewers of this hotel as everything they commented on is true but you have to experience it to believe it.

This is not even a 2 star hotel

If you opt to pay for drinks you get charge a different price according to which country you come from, best advice with this hotel is to eat and drink out.

Past reviewers will be surprised (or not) to know that people were still getting food poisoning, the attitude of the management is still as bad as ever all toped of by the fact that our rep would not show his face as half the party I arrived with were gunning for him. Within the first two days, most of the people we arrived with had been moved to another hotel.

I complained to my tour operator whilst I was out there who did absolutely nothing to give me any confidence.

Put simply don’t go. It is the original holiday from hell.

I am taking my tour operator to court over this one and if any body has any info other than that we have seen already let me know.

" The only reason this hotel made a 1... "

The only reason this hotel made a 1 out of 10 was for the sea view.

My room was not clean I found a broken glass under the bed and there was hair on the shelf above the bath which was there all week. The floor was not swept or mopped at all. I feel less time spent making the sheets pretty with petals and more time on cleanliness may have got the cleaner a tip.

The food was disgusting and every lunchtime and evening it was guess the soup I got it right once but that was only because there were bits of chicken in it. I gave up on breakfast after the first day, as it was similar to what I had eaten the night before. Who has salad for breakfast?

One evening we saw the Head Chef drop some food on the floor. He then picked it up and put it in the hot container with all the rest of the food thus contaminating all of it. A guest went to the Chef saying, "That is disgusting what you did" he just took that piece of food out of the container leaving the rest for people to eat. The restaurant manager was summoned who said the Chef was sacked (he was still there 4 days later) The hotel guest was told by the restaurant manager and I quote "I forbid you to talk to any of the hotel guests about this matter" Bit of a job when you don’t speak Italian or German.

There was no entertainment for the English and as I don’t speak any of the languages above it was a waste of time. In fact the Saturday night when the Italians and Germans had gone home there was no entertainment so a few sat chatting by the stage and were told to be quiet as they were trying to rehearse. I saw a flame thrower one evening which was ok but the next morning I saw him with a pair of pliers in his hand obviously the handyman can turn his hand to anything

" Wow, read all the comments on this... "

Wow, read all the comments on this hotel, on this site, before we went to Tunisia, and must say that I was worried, no petrified, at what we would find!
Returned yesterday from a very pleasant week at this hotel and resort.
No, it is not 5 star, but it is clean and friendly and safe.
No, the all inclusive is very, very restricted and misleading, but we managed.
There was plenty of food, even though the hotel catering is good at finding one hundred and one ways of using left over carrots and cauliflower! The omelettes, crepes and other made to order food was perfectly edible and the meal in the a la carte restaurant was very nice and well served.
There were about 50 or so other English guests while we were there and I can honestly say we did not hear any major moans or groans from any one else while we were there.
All in all, a pleasant week in the sunshine.

" This is the WORST hotel in the world.... "

This is the WORST hotel in the world. I read all the bad reviews before I went and we went there knowing this wasn’t going to be good. We never thought it would be as bad as it was.

Got there 2am and was told the hotel was full and was moved to another hotel, no apology!

2 days later we moved to the Yasmine and demanded a decent room which we got, overlooking the sea, very clean we were happy!

Food was diabolical, had really bad stomach upsets for 3 days, if you are going (poor you) DO NOT eat the salad (looks tempting but washed in local lavatory). Second point DO NOT eat the chicken from the barbecue, the chef puts the fresh chicken on with his hands and then picks the cooked food up to put on you plate. Also the chicken was never cooked, as we all know you do not eat pink chicken it is very bad for you!

The staff were unhelpful and it took some serious throwing of weight around to get anything done, they promised the earth and nothing ever happened!

The bar staff made up the prices as they went along and would pocket the money themselves. Just for your reference the vodka is 3.200 dinars and the Gordon’s gin is 9.600 dinars, they will tell you otherwise believe me.

All in all we will never go back to Tunisia and we would recommend that if you have booked this holiday seriously think about changing it to somewhere else, this is not 5 star it is 2 or maybe 3 star and you will thank we for getting you the reader to not go there!

Oh by the way there were 10 English there and the rest are Germans, Italians, this means none of staff speak English or French!!!!

" Welcome to the luxury 5* Yasmine... "

Welcome to the luxury 5* Yasmine beach hotel - we hope you enjoy your stay more than we did! We enjoyed two things - the merciful fact that we had only booked a week and not the fortnight we had been considering, and laughing at how absurdly bad everything was!

The hotel web site was our only reference as the hotel is not in any brochures (a future alarm bell if ever there was one!). The genius with which this website has been constructed to construe an average hotel in the best possible light is quite something. The photos show the absolute best angles and an extremely untypical room, and must surely have been taken when it was first built not in its current state. (the indoor pool transforms in real life from clean, sizeable and inviting to a dirty puddle with paint peeling from the walls).

Equally the wording of what 'all inclusive' means illustrates many services available at the hotel, implying they are all inclusive but not actually saying so. Of course when you arrive the following are chargeable:
The on site brewery - nearly £3 a pint - the free beer is only available in hotel bars and tastes like paint stripper (maybe someone spilt some on the walls of the indoor pool?)

The pizzeria is chargeable. The fast food bar that is all inclusive does not appear to exist.

Orange Juice with breakfast? £1 a glass please

All inclusive beer available by the half pint. An observant person noticing the pint glasses under the bar, and thinking this would avoid many trips to a crowded bar is told beer only free in half pint glasses. You must pay if you want a pint (of the same beer of course!)

The gym on site - quite small and not much working unfortunately - but £5 to use per person per day

The quality of the 'all inclusive' also bears mention. Remember this is '5 star':
- Beer and wine and 3 local spirits only on all inclusive. All poor quality and the wine is dreadful - really dreadful
- The food will not suit children, lacks variety, is often cold / inedible. We ate plain pasta and then ate out everyday
- The snacks available daily, are children’s party food, cheese & tomato roll, half sausage roll and cake. Is that 5 star?
- The 'a la carte' has no menu choice! It is all pre prepared food served the second you sit down and really awful. 'Chicken Cocktail' (rather than prawn) being the classy starter, complete with sundae lass full of mush where it has sat around for several hours

The staff:
They really do not speak any English (other than to sell you things / ask for tips). This makes it nearly impossible to get any information. There are never more than 20 English people in the hotel of several hundred and all entertainment is in either Italian or German. An English person hoping to join in the bingo was told 'sorry, it’s for Germans only'

The 'spa treatments' are disorganised (45 mins late) and scary when the person cannot communicate with you and you are given no choice of man/woman.

To avoid the scurrilous local taxis the hotel provides complementary trip to town for you to shop in peace. Actually they drive you to an out of town carpet shop where rugs (for several hundred pounds) are pressure sold to you. You do not know where you are and the pressure is very intense. They are angry if you don’t buy - and you are in the middle of nowhere clutching your valuables!

Outside the hotel people are kind, helpful and largely English speaking! We found taxi drivers would always quote a price and stick to it, great service in restaurants and decent food for very good prices.

Enjoy Tunisia but whatever you do, do not go near this hotel

" Yasmine beach hotel - what can I say... "

Yasmine beach hotel - what can I say ... Holiday from hell.

I’m not sure whether they rate hotels differently in Tunisia but if I was being kind I’d probably only give the hotel a 3 star and that’s at a push. The food was awful, even though we were all inclusive we only ate there a couple of times, everyday people would make their daily trip to the supermarket to stock up !!

The only all inclusive drinks on offer were beer and wine and 3 of their local spirits, none of which were that nice, and that’s being generous.

We were told that they had their own brewery on site which we assumed was included too but it turned out that you had to pay to drink in there and they happened to turn the England game off the TVs in the hotel to make people go to the brewery so they got some money out of you, which I thought was disgusting.

Unfortunately we weren’t told that the hotel didn’t cater for English people only Germans and Italians, so they all had as much entertainment as they wanted but as we were English we couldn’t understand any of it. One day when the weather was dire the Germans were playing bingo so we went to join in and but were told as we were English we couldn’t !!! There were only a couple of bar staff that could speak English and that was it in the whole hotel. The other staff didn’t really want to know you and weren’t friendly towards you at all. They made it really obvious that if you weren’t German / Italian you weren’t welcome. The few times we ventured into the restaurant not one waiter offered us a drink you could tell who were the English in the restaurant as they were the people trying to get the waiters attention for drinks.

They did have 2 swimming pools at the hotel, which put on some entertainment, one for the Italians and one for the Germans !!!

The resort itself, I think in about 3-5yrs time will be quite nice but at the moment it just a building site with hotels all around you being erected. There were a few bars being built but unfortunately we went there too early.

Then to top it off on the last day we went to take advantage of the courtesy room got there an hour and a half before we were due to be picked up and were told that someone was in there which was fair enough, eventually after we’d kept asking about the room we had 10mins before we were being picked up so we had to rush up to the Italians pool as they had a shower (over looking the pool) and use that which was some what embarrassing.

Then it turned out the coach was late anyway (but we still didn’t get told the room was free) I tried ringing our supposed rep but he didn’t answer his phone. Eventually the coach turned up, full of angry people that were worried they were going to miss their flight home. We eventually arrived at the airport after the gates had been shut and 10mins before boarding, all the airline reps kept asking where our rep was, which we obviously didn’t know. (we were told they should have rang them to say we were running late) luckily one of the ladies with us went up to the Tunisian security and they opened the gates for us.

One thing for sure I will never ever be going back to Tunisia again after that experience. We have learnt though if you book a holiday through Teletext (which I have been doing for a number of years) and the hotel they are selling isn’t in an English brochure there is a reason for that!!!

" Allocated this hotel on arrival as... "

Allocated this hotel on arrival as our original had not opened. absolutely dire. The beer caused bad stomach’s, food was uneatable, people were having money and items stolen from their rooms, staff were unhelpful, the whole place is very dark, put 5 people in the pool and it was full, during the time we were there on AI basis, 40 + people had moved to another hotel as did we. local rep was out of his depth, nothing we had booked for (specific) water sports/entertainment was available without a 30 min walk, and animation/evening entertainment was bordering on village hall style, nothing for the kids. Don’t go, you may not survive
