This hotel with an official rating of 5 stars should really be give a 2 star rating.
Towels are paper thin and rough.
Food is more a hostel standard food.
Air-conditioning is barely working, and is switched off in public areas after 10:30pm every night.
Staff are generally helpful but only within the limits of some really draconian restrictions and only after you grease their pockets with some money.
Some rooms and corridors smell of sewage.
Ordering food from the rather very short room services menu is a task if you succeed in doing deserving of a medal!
Tea and coffee are lukewarm and made with hard, salty water that completely ruins the taste.
As for any usual luxuries that you would normally see in a five star establishment, there are non.
My genuine real advice is stay well away from this resort.

We arrived on July 2008, we did book a room for 2 adult and 2 childrens, when we ask for it in the reception they told us that there is none available at the moment so they upgrated us to a suite we were very happy intill the reception manager pop in and said that this will be for one night only and 2moro they will find us another room, we were very upset us we don't want to pack and unpack our suitcase, so we requested to find us an immidiate solution wich he did for a room with double bed only, no apology was given to us for the inconvinience, late afternoon and after swuiming in the sea we went for the shower to find out that it licks and no water coming out from the shower head, we called reception and we were expecting a quick fix from a 5 star hotel, 4 days later and the shower is not fixed, at that point I did request to speak to the general manager and he did a least apologize and offer us a room move for the 2nd time, at this point I did ask for a compensation, the lady in the reception was very helpful and upgrated us from 1/2 board to full board, I was thinking at that time that the manager autorize that and I was happy with it, 2moro I found out that this was not autorized and the receptionnist in question was in trouble because of that and since then I have not seen her, May be she lost her job, I did ask about her and i was told that it's her days off????? never know, few days later we found a poo in the swuiming pool, very nice, and the indoor swuiming pool had a mark that it's deep is at 1m55, my wife she is 1m81, she went into the water and she nearly drown, as the mesurement was wrong i called the manager and they did check it and it was 2m. more trouble happen if i continue we wil be more chocked of the service in this 5 star hotel.
be careful as they have a wedding room that always end up with a fight in the car park of the hotel.
PLease read my wife review.

I will give you the good points first as it won't take long.!!! The pool is gorgeous and the public areas are very clean, the gardens well kept. Wardrobes spacious as were the rooms....that's it sorry. If like me you booked this last minute and THEN looked at any reviews.....I am SO sorry.
Upon my arrival the receptionist had to have 3 attempts to find me a vacant room. I was sent with the porter each time only to find the 1st 2 rooms already occupied.
This hotel is surprisingly given a 5 star rating but I would consider it a struggle to reach a 3 star rating. The quality of fixtures and fitting is poor and in desperate need of updating. Please ignore all the glossy photos you see on the internet as the hotel reception area and the large swimming pool are the only things worth looking at. Rooms are spacious but lack the finishing touches I would expect of a 5 star hotel. The bathroom towels were as rough as sandpaper and soiled. There was missing grout/plaster around tiles and bath. There was a stench of sewage whenever the tap was turned on and the toilet although separate also had the same distinct odour.
Food...well all I can say is that I actually lost weight on this holiday as the food is diabolical. I know some countries would find it difficult to provide a good old English breakfast but Tunisia have never even heard of it. My breakfast consisted of a rubber hard boiled egg and a bread roll. Show cooking is basically a chef "and I use the term lightly" frying eggs or pancakes. If you are from a nation who enjoys salad/cold veg in oil or viniagrette/boiled rice or cereal that resembles the sawdust or wood shavings...this IS the hotel for you. Evening meals were no better and stone cold. Nothing was labelled so you have no idea what you are eating. The waiters are miserable and moody. It was Ramadan when I was there but manners shouldn't have to be paid for as an extra. Oh yes I almost forgot.....does anyone out there know why the hell you would be expected to pay extra for fresh orange juice with your breakfast.??
The fresh pizzas are not worth eating either. They look like and taste like melted cheese on crisy cardboard. There is a marina about 20 to 30 mins walk and I was told food there was edible and reasonable. As a single female traveller I would not recommend you venture out alone as you constantly get hassle from taxis/tunisian men/horse and carriage drivers....all a pain in the proverbial.
So to recap.......IF you want a 5 star joke hotel in a VERY boring resort that looks impressive, has a beautiful pool, is on the beach, is run by miserable staff, provides the worse food in the universe, has a tv in your room with no English channel......this is the place.
Oh yes and another useful bit of info, you cannot buy any alcohol in this resort other than in the hotel bar ( £5 lowest priced cocktail ). It may be a good idea to buy it in duty free on your way out. The hotel will NOT change dinar back to sterling or euro for you, so only change what you know you will spend in the country. You can change it back in the bank at the airport on your departure but you will be charged about 15% for the privilege.....cheeky sods.!!

Myself and my boyfriend decided to book a week at the Vincci Taj Sultan in April this year, we booked through lastminute.com and got an extremely good price for a half board deluxe room holiday.
The transfer from the airport to the hotel takes well over an hour but after seeing some of the other hotels people were dropped off at when the coach pulled up to the Vincci we both breathed a sigh of relief.
The reception is marble and very large with sofas and 2 bars, when we arrived we did have to wait a while until we were given our room. When we eventually completed check in we were given a large room with two beds and a sofa. Not much of a view from the window though but this was not an issue for us. The bathroom had both a shower and a bath.
The food at the hotel was hit and miss, nothing was ever inedible but some nights were better than others, the main restaurant offered a buffet every evening.
The hotel is set on a lovely beach, there is also a large outside pool, and a heated indoor pool, which was more popular at the time of year stayed. Some days were too chilly to sunbathe.
All in all we had an enjoyable stay we wish the weather had been better (not the hotels fault we know!) try to go after April would be our advice and also I can't write a review about the hotel without mentioning the weirdest evening entertainment I have ever seen, please take it with a pinch of salt and perhaps make sure you've had two or three of their exceptionally strong cocktails!

Not one for spending hours checking out various hotels, I booked a weeks holiday at the Taj Sultan for myself, wife and two kids (10 & 8) on the recommendation of Going Places. It was to be our second time in Tunisia. The last time was 15 years ago.
When I got home, my wife went on the internet to see if there were any reviews (shutting the gate after the horse has bolted!) and came across this website. I have to admit that having read the reviews and some of the low scores, we were a little bit disappointed. But it was too late to change and resigned ourselves to an average hotel. How wrong we were.
We arrived at the Taj Sultan after a 85 minute transfer from Monistar. The exterior of the hotel is impressive but nothing compared to the fantastic reception area. It was spotlessly clean with marble walls and floors and quality decor. This standard was maintained through-out the hotel.
We were met at the doors by the duty manager who showed us to some comfy sofas and brought us free drinks over while reception checked us in. A few minutes later the bell boy grabbed our cases and showed us to our room.
We stayed in 2113 which was a large first room with two single beds and 1 double. The balcony had an excellent view over the swimming pool and overlooked the beech and sea. The room had a separate dressing area and the wardrobes swallowed four cases and all of our clothing. The wardrobes also contain a key code safe and you simply need to set up a code with reception. There were two bathrooms, one with a bath / over bath shower / toilet and sink and the other with a shower cubicle / toilet and sink. This saved lots of crossed legs because of the kids hogging the bathroom in the mornings.
The room had a large colour TV with 20 satellite channels but unfortunately none of them were in English. This didn't bother us too much as we hadn't gone away to watch Eastenders.
The outside pool was great. It was extremely clean and a display board shows the water temperature and chlorine levels twice a day. For those cooler days there is a heated indoor swimming pool with sauna, steam room and massage suite.
We stayed half board and the breakfast and evening meals were superb. Both were buffet style and had a huge selection of foods. A typical evening selection was a salad bar, seven choices of hot meals, a pasta bar where the chef will add any ingredients to your chosen pasta and a large selection of deserts.
The venue for the evening entertainment holds about 150 people with large sofas and low tables. Some one wrote that if the animation team gets on stage leave quickly. DON'T! Their performances are done a little 'toung in cheek', were very original and had us laughing for ages. If you are expecting a night at the ballet, then I suppose you might be a little disgruntled. We were also treated to some native fakirs who did weird stuff with glass, nails and swords.
The staff were polite, helpful and attentive. Yes, Tunisia is a poor country and the people that work in the hotel don't have a lot. But treat them with respect and not like poor relations and they'll make your holiday that little bit more special. There is a full waiter service, both in the bar and around the pool and they'll even make you a decent cup of English Tea.
The private beach attached the hotel as great. There was always a member of staff in attendance and you don't get hassle from people trying to sell you water melons, leather goods or camels like other beeches we've been to in Tunisia. The kids went paragliding for 30 dinars each (about £12.00) and you could hire surf boards, sail boards and other small boats.
In other reviews people have written that although the hotel is a five star, it doesn't compare to British 5 stars. Obviously they're right but it is just about the best you'll find anywhere in Tunisia. To them it's the Ritz.
If you want to stay in a quality hotel, with great facilities, good food and friendly staff that caters for kids as well as couples, then this is it.
And by the way, no I don't work for the hotel. We just had a fantastic time and my wife insisted I write a review.

My wife and I stayed here over Christmas and although we both thoroughly enjoyed our holiday do have one or two things that bothered us.
1.) If you want a safety deposit box your probably better off bringing one from the UK yourself. I asked three times for one and was told yes of course and it never turned up. I even called our rep at Med hotels to get her (more on her later) to ask but again no joy.
2.) Reception are not very helpful. Apart from the incident with the safety deposit box I also had need of some plasters as I had cut my hand opening our suitcase. I asked reception and was told quite bluntly no we don't have any.
When I showed them my bleeding hand they sent a bell boy, who I must say was great, all around the hotel to find a plaster. However when he returned with a first aid box all it contained was some iodine and cotton wool. I ended up making my own plaster, with no concern or help from the staff, out of the cotton wool and sellotape. Not really 5 star treatment.
3.) The hotel provides entertainment nightly either Via their in house team Animation or via local professional show. My advice is if it's the Animation team doing the show then get out of the bar asap, think a bad school show / butlins and your close to how good they are.
4.) We booked Half board, so you can imagine our surprise when we showed up for dinner on the first night and was asked to pay for it. After much discussion with the receptionist we finally had it taken from our bill. However on the second night we again was asked to pay for our meal. Luckily I had the foresight to bring our booking slip this time and so was not charged for the meal.
5.) Our rep with med hotels, were do I begin.
Well to start I have no idea what she looks like as she never showed at our hotel and all communication was done over the phone. When I called her she was very short and seemed to ether have just gotten out of bed or wanted me off the phone ASAP.
As previously mentioned I called about the safety deposit box and the half board bookings and she said not to worry she will deal with it. However we never saw our safe and there was no follow up call to check things were ok.
I then had to call to make sure we were booked on the transfer to the airport when we were leaving. Again was told everything is ok and we are the only ones leaving from this hotel. However when we turned up for the coach there were about 8-9 people waiting for this transfer. This did not inspire confidence to say the least.
The coach was due at 4 and by 4.15 we were all getting a little worried, I gave her a call and was told "Well your the last pick up so it will be a bit late.". I asked her to check anyway and give me a call back with the status.
She said that would be ok but I never received a call back. By 4.30 we were really worried and she had stopped answering her phone, we were reduced asking the other coaches turning up if they were going to the airport and if they could fit us on.
The coach finally turned up at 4.45 and our check in time was supposedly 5.10 as it took about an hour to get to the airport, without traffic, we were very worried. But I'm here writing this in the UK so all ended up well.
On the plus side the rooms are very nice and clean and the food was great, although maybe a bit repetitive.
Also I would recommend speaking to Ben who organises the quad bike and boot trip excursions. We found him to be very nice and helpful and the trips were fantastic.
I would go back to Tunisia again however not to this hotel, the country is lovely and on the whole the people are great and have a good sense of humour, especially when haggling over the price of things. As a side note you can haggle over the price of anything even a packet of crisps.
Hammamet was a bit too touristy for my liking, but as I have previously said my wife and I really had a great time.

We also read the reviews after we had already booked this hotel, and spent six weeks dreading what was in store for us. We were pleasantly surprised.
The Taj Sultan is not a five star hotel but a very high 3 or more likely a 4. Tunisia is a poor country and their standards are lower than the English! The staff were very pleasant and helpful (particularly the waiters), and the reception staff were pleasant enough although not always speedy at responding to requests. We had to ask three times for a deposit box for the room, and the Airtours rep had to follow it up with them too.
Food was really good. Loads of choice and high quality too. We were not disappointed in that department at all! I agree with the desserts comment - yummeee!
Water is available from all bars for 2 dinar for a 900ml glass bottle (82p when we were there).
The fitness area is pathetic - but who wants to go there when they're on holiday? We only went to investigate after the comment below, but that area of the hotel does seem a little 'back of house'.
The music is loud in the evening 9.30pm - midnight / 1am. We were in a room above it a there was no chance of sleeping when it was going full tilt, though they did seem to calm down a bit approaching 11.30pm / midnight. If you get room numbers 1104 - 1118 or there abouts I would definitely ask to be moved before unpacking! The loud music comes from Le Jasmin bar, which is on the far left on the reception area as you walk in the main front entrance.
The pool and beach area is good, clean and well maintained. There is a waiter serving drinks to you on your lounger all of the time by the pool, and we had no issues of seaweed on the beach. There were, what seem look like, small very light coconuts that get washed up by the thousand. These were being cleared away every day, and never caused a problem. The section of beach in front of this hotel seemed the best of all hotels along the beach.
The pool is cold - we found the sea warmer!
Rooms are cleaned and made up every day, and on one occasion we saw the maid cleaning someone else’s room via an open door. It seems very well cleaned, all mats taken up and the whole room swept every day, clean towel every day and the bathroom left nice and clean too.
The hotel is starting to look slightly tired around the edges considering it's only three years old, but as I said, it's not really a five star hotel.
It is not advised that you drink the Tunisian water, but they do say it's OK to clean your teeth in it, but we chose to clean ours in bottled water to be on the safe side. Our stomachs were both fine for the whole holiday and we eat in the hotel every day.
The hotel seems to cater for French and German tourists more than the English and Arabic and French are the main languages. Most staff seem to have very limited English, though a few are pretty fluent. It's interesting how the greet you every time you walk into the restaurant, or pass you in the corridor in the morning, as to whether they think you are English, French, German or Spanish. We must look more French than English, as 'Bonjour' was the most common greeting!
If I wanted another holiday in Tunisia would go back to the Taj Sultan, but making sure the room I had was not above the Bar Jasmin as this was the only negative side of the holiday, but I guess we were the chosen few guests that had to use the 15 / 16 or so rooms out of 160 ish above that area

Having read the previous bad reviews (after we had already booked our holiday) we went on holiday not quite sure what to expect. We however had a really good time, we just wanted a relaxing pool, hot holiday for the family.
We found the beach very clean, apart from after very rough water when some seaweed was left on the beach. This was not unpleasant however no attempt was being made the next day to clear it, there was no rubbish on the beach however at any time.
The hotel is 3 years old and we felt it now needs to start being redecorated and refitted to maintain its 5 stars but overall at the moment it was not unsatisfactory.
Our room was excellent, very spacious for a family however only 1 English World News channel on the TV. His and hers bathrooms.
We felt the food, although not good for the children, provided a variety of traditional choices. Each evening there was an Italian section offering pasta and pizza freshly cooked. Having 2 fussy eaters in the family (1 adult and 1 child) we managed to eat for the week.
We did not go far outside the complex as having a young child this was not what we wanted so cannot comment on the area although it is still developing. This was also nearing the end of the main summer season so some shops were closed.
We felt the staff were friendly, particularly to the children, and as we did not have any problems cannot comment.
This can not be compared to a 5 star hotel in England where we would expect extremely high English standards, however we felt it perfectly adequate for a holiday of this type.
Please go with an open mind and do not be influenced by others bad experiences. We were really impressed during our holiday and everybody had a good time.

Having just looked at the comments made by previous visitors i felt i had to add my own comments. We went to this hotel with our 3 young children age 6, 4 and 2. On our arrival late at night we were made very welcome and given a drink.
Our room was upgraded to accommodate us all free of charge and without us asking and we were also given a meal. The room was fantastic with 2 bathrooms although the view was of the car park it didn't bother us as we had a great room.
The hotel is in need of a bit of TLC in areas but this is only with fixtures and fittings. The pool was fantastic and the indoor pool was also excellent. All the areas were really clean.
As for the beach I think we must have been in a different place to the others because it was lovely. Not huge but really clean, with private sunbeds and a beach bar. We were full board and ate in the restaurant all the time. There was a huge amount of choice each meal time and separate areas for pasta and pizza. The desserts were amazing. The staff couldn't be more helpful not the quickest of service but we were on holiday so it didn't matter.
The entertainment team were great. For the children it was perfect, a disco every night for them and then some form of entertainment which ranged from bingo to a full musical performance. They worked so hard and OK it may not be the West End but it was fine. The kids club was good and near the pool so the children could come and go as they pleased.
We are already planning our return visit next year. For a family with kids you cannot ask for any more value for money.

Okay let’s start with the good, as this won't take much space....
The hotel has a nice big pool in comparison to other nearby hotels and is right on the beachfront. The beach itself was generally pretty clean. The entertainment staff did their best to get the holidaymakers involved in the various activities on offer.
Right the bad... from the word go we (my girlfriend and I) experienced a series of problems with this hotel and its poor staffing.
Our first room was directly above the "entertainment area" (which is anything but entertaining for the record) and we were subjected to an evening of wall bangingly loud horrible pop music from the eighties.! We did also notice hair on the sheets. The pillows were small; solid lumps of rock and needless to say very uncomfortable.
We were begrudgingly given a new room in the opposite wing of the hotel. This was far better noise wise but the shower was faulty and would leak water all over the bathroom floor. So you would essentially step out of a shower into a bath.
The food - was very limited in its range from day to day. Most of the food was traditional but very poorly made and often regurgitated in a similar dish the next day.
The hotel itself is definitely looking very tired and in need of major redecoration - do not believe the catalogue pics - it is nothing like them.
The laughably poor excuse for a fitness centre is basically non-existent and is positioned next to what I can only guess is some kind of sewage outlet. It is disgusting as are the indoor swimming pools' changing facilities.
There is only one computer to use for Internet use and that wasn't working when we were there.
If you want a cocktail in the bar think again. I ordered a mai tai which (as I explained to the hotel manager) tasted something like "piss in a glass".
Lastly and most importantly, the staff are awful - really slow and really unhelpful - particularly the concierge who never once managed to satisfy me with a decent answer to a single question or enquiry that we had. The general response would centre around the phrase "yes yes in a few hours" - hoping that we might forget and go away.
We visited numerous other hotels along the beach front and found many others (including some 4*) that were better in all of these points than ours. To help you I would name the Sofitel, the Iberostar and the vincci Lela baya amongst others.
To conclude - THIS IS UNQUESTIONABLY NOT A 5* HOTEL IN ANY FORM. If you want friendly and helpful staff do not go here, and if you do, don't say I didn't warn you...

All that I can say is that this, is definitely not a 5 star hotel.
The hotel looks really nice. And it has a great big swimming pool and its own beach.
But, the service is really poor, also we couldn't book a safe. Nobody could (neither our friends).
There were some small ants in our room. Although we got a not bad sea-view room. The air conditioning system was a bit leaking, but then it got fixed.
We were expecting a lot more from this hotel. I wouldn't recommend it anyways.

Well here is my honest review about the hotel. I just got back from Tunisia, stayed at the vinci taj sultan. When we first arrived it looked like a very pleasant hotel. We got a sea view room which over looked the pool and the sea, very nice room which started off as a plus, sadly after going down to the beach it quickly changed, the beaches were of very poor standard, not what I expected, a lot of sea weed littered the beaches and was not cleaned up, this was case for our entire stay. The beaches in Yasmine are terrible, water is dirty and the evening walks along the beach are not enjoyable, sinking your feet into sea weed and sea weed balls.
During our stay, breakfast and dinner, was of very poor/low qualify, I have had better quality of food at a 2 star hotel than I did at, Vincci Taj Sultan, which was such a let down and made staying there a very disappointing one.
I would also recommend to book any rental cars through Avis, not the guy at the hotel. Avis gave us better rates, including, fully collision protection waver which they fail to mention at the hotel, side stepping it by telling you all is fine and there wont be problems but the long and short of it is, wind screen is not covered, wing mirrors and lights, which could add up to allot, if damaged. Hope this is some help and you end up enjoying your holiday at the better hotel.

Surely not a 5*hotel.
To start with, we arrived late at night all lights in reception were off, we thought we were the only guests at the hotel; next day when we went for breakfast there wasn't enough variety of food (bread was hard and juice was more like water).
We are not big fans of swimming pools so when that is why we booked this holiday because we thought the beach and the trip to the Sahara desert would be good enough, the beach was completely full of seaweeds which made it impossible to swim, that was already a bad experience to continue with bad luck we booked a trip to the Sahara desert with Medhotels and they forgot to add our names to the list so they never came to pick us up; unfortunately there wasn't any other trip to the Sahara available.
The hotel didn't offer air conditioner even though was very hot, reception staff were absolutely rude apart from that all other staff were very helpful and friendly.
I just want to advise people if you think you are booking a 5* hotel, don't get too excited about it because it is definitely at least 3*.

We had booked our holiday for the summer in January and we were all looking forward to going very much. We have been to Tunisia twice before but not to the new resort of Hammamet yasmin, The hotel was fantastic, the food was excellent, and the staff were wonderful, we have two children age 5ys & 6yrs and their needs were met all throughout the day and night which meant we had a lovely relaxing time. The animation team worked very hard to keep adults and children happy and the bar and restaurant staff were always very helpful and polite, the whole two weeks went to fast and nobody wanted to come home. Just must report our children had tattoos done in the local medina, which were not cheap. Everybody seemed to be walking around with them, when we returned home they started to peel and have now left unsightly scars, please be aware.
