Overcharged by Hilton
Room good: breakfast excellent, but we only stayed two nights and they managed to make several mistakes with the account - an overcharge of nearly £70. They even tried to charge VAT on the wine! They explained that they were having problems with a new computer system, but could not explain why they were so willing to issue an account and wait for the customer to note the errors. This is totally unacceptable. Check you bill very carefully.
Not the worst but not worthy of the Hilton name
We stayed here for one night because my better half was running in the Great South Run and all other 17999 hotel rooms in the area were booked. This was the closest we could find to the city centre. From the outside, the hotel bears a resemblance to sheltered accommodation, and given the proximity of the motorway, some shelter is no bad thing. We were in a "deluxe double". From what I could tell, this meant some free wine, water and apples. No minibar. One window but two curtains. Of course, for one night none of this is a... more
The worst
Having previously stayed in about 15 Hiltons in the UK, I was looking forward to the August Bank Holiday away with my husband and daughter. This Hilton is the worst Hotel I ever stayed in, it was dirty the cutlery and plates were greasy and the napkins stank of chemiclas which lingered in the wine glass where they had been put. The evening meal was extremely poor , and the service barely existant. The bar area was really unpleasant, the chairs were covered in stains. The bedroom was ok although you could only see the TV if you were perched... more
Expected much much better
Stayed for only one night, fortunately, as it is convenient for the ferry terminal. We had been in the room for no longer than a minute when my 3 year old daughter pointed out that something was floating in the toilet. I will not describe what was floating, but it was not a pleasant experience! After complaining to reception I was informed that cleaning staff would be called, none arrived. The room was poorly furnished run down and not very clean, no air conditioning, the bath/shower was dirty and full of mould. I would not... more
top marks
stayed here a few nights in july and my stay was perfect friendly staff great food and for what the hotel is the staff make the most of it. The atmosphere during the night is excellent.
Fantastic
Well what can I say, I was a little hessitant about staying here after reading the other reviews, but I had already booked so thought I would give it a go! How glad I was that I gave it a chance. It was wonderful, the staff looked after us from start to finnish. We had a lovely breakfasts to set us up for the days sight seeing and came back to the relaxing atmospere in the bar and superb eveniong meal. Go on give it ga go!
Not Hilton Standard
Went to stay at this hotel for a weekend with friends and was worried by the previous reviews. This hotel is very tired and although we were upgraded as Hilton Gold clients the room was still very poor. Dirty walls, smelly room, which should have been non-smoking but didn't smell like it, and very uncomfortable double bed (should have been King size). The service was also poor, the food ordinary and the wait for breakfast unacceptable when there were empty tables available. The wait for drinks on the Saturday evening was over... more
Tired, run down - look elsewhere
As a Hilton Gold member my first check on staying in any location is for a Hilton to continue my loyalty to the brand, but if I ever need to stay in “Pompy” again I will not stay here (unless its renovated – or preferably gutted and refitted!). I had booked a one-night Hilton Leisure break B&B for £110 for a standard room. With my Gold status it was upgrade on arrival to a plaza room. On arrival the hotel lobby looked uninviting and quite drab. Check in was handled efficiently however there was a "problem" with the lock in... more
