My friend and I went to the Averroes a few weeks ago. The hotel itself is absolutely great but it was ruined by the attentions of the animation staff. The guys are great in the day but do centre on the young girls and convince them to go to a disco at night for an extra 10... more

Probably the best in Yasmine Hammamet
Me and my wife stayed in this hotel for one week (all inclusive). It was a good experience overall and we would be willing to return. We chose this hotel carefully and we made a good choice. Some points we would like to share: - We got a welcome drink, filled a form and went to our room. The boy who carried the bags gave us one of the few bad experiences we had. He wanted to be tipped and he was able to make us feel uncomfortable because he seemed that he would not leave the room until he get a euro from us. I came to realize that he was the worst and most unkind employee in the hotel and surely needed to be fired. - Anyway, the room was ok (twin beds, toilet split in two like we used to see in France), in the ground floor without sea view (we didn't pay it and we didn't miss it, honestly). The remote control for TV is in the reception. The cleaning lady was nice but since she had no way (other than those signs that you could hang) to know if people were in the rooms she bothered us a couple of times. - We had a problem because at home we changed to All Inclusive few days before going and they didn't have that information. At the reception we explained and showed the voucher we brought from Portugal. No problem at all, they trusted us and the voucher we had and gave us the All inclusive bracelets which we recommend because the hotel is prepared mainly to serve All Inclusive. - They do want the deposit for the towels. I used my credit card and during the checkout they destroy the receipt. Not a perfect system but it's ok. - The (buffet) restaurant is very good and employees there are nice too. We were so happy that we didn't use our free meal at theme restaurant. - The entertainment team tries hard. During the day they organize sports activities and games (good enough), at night they organize some "shows" (not very interesting really, a bit naive). They didn't work on Monday. - They (employees/men in the street) do look/stare at younger women (which can make some feel uncomfortable) but let me tell you that some women were "dressed to kill" and they wanted to attract attention too. They attracted mine, too... - Pool is very good, large enough, once we had no sun beds because we arrived at the pool at 2 PM. - The sea (except for 1 day) was a good option too, warm water with some nice waves. I was expecting the sea to be more blue and transparent. It wasn't. - Averroes is one of the few hotels (only?) in the seafront. - For Portuguese travelers we add that our travel agent (Abreu) has a Portuguese person living in Hammamet which gave all support needed. - the All inclusive bar is nice, everything in the menu is free. The Tunisian beer is light but tastes good, whisky is horrible, Expresso coffee bad. - in the hotel i used a mixture of French, Spanish and English to communicate. Communication won't be a problem. They try to understand you. - There were Germans, some English, some Italian, some Spanish, some Portuguese and some Arabic people. Some were families with kids. Walking in Yasmine Hammamet is safe during the day or night. Well, i felt safer than in London, Paris or Lisbon. Walk around but be aware of the traffic they don't respect crosswalks and many other traffic rules.
I want to go back
After a simple journey, no delays, just the long transfer from the airport to the hotel, roughly 2hrs. We arrived at the hotel. To our surprise the hotel was kind of, in darkness with only the lonely receptionist stood at his desk, a little weird considering it was only just 12am. After we checked in we got taken to our room by the bell boy. We were a little annoyed as the room was not the sea view we had booked. Instantly the bell boy rang reception, they told us to rest and all would be solved in the morning. He was right, with also a refund for the night not spent in a sea view room. The correct room was spacious and clean, ample wardrobe space and lovely long mirrors. ( girls take your own hair dryers, you'll be there all night with theirs). I think the mattress's needed replacing as a little lumpy, but now i feel i'm being fussy. The staff are lovely, in the main buffet restaurant they joke and laugh.....put your glasses on and wait for you to notice....ha ha. It was my birthday and they decorated the table with beautiful flowers and napkin swans. I also had a gorgeous cake made for me and a bunch of red roses ( my boyfriends tip probably helped) The only thing that was annoying about going to the buffet was the trip seller just outside.....'NO for the 10000th time' and still he asked you to go on his bloody camel trip!!!! He was easily avoided by entering through the garden entrance. Now the drinks, the beer is a little different to ours, but its fine. I stuck to the wine, it's not like your adverage pinot gregio, but it did the job. Spirits, well i got a litle drunk on the cocktails, so it's not bad. Just don;t expect malibu and the choices we have at home. The pool is gorgeous, just remember to wear your flip flops on the grass, tiny weeny ants bite the hell out of your feet. Never had a problem getting a sun lounger. ( zee German's were up at 6 putting there towels down) The pool entertainment is simple fun.. water polo, aqua gym, games and they play some good music. The sea is lovely, there are jelly fish but only further out. if you stay in the coned of area your alright. We took a canoe out and saw the biggest jelly fish, nearly the size of a car tyre......yuck! The life guards promise they only give a sting and are not dangerous. still they look nasty. The sand is ok, a little rocky and occasionally last nights fun and frollics can be seen, but its great other than that. My top tips * Girls defiantly have a facial it's gorgeous. * Only change small amounts. Once you pass through passport control you cannot use the dina. ( once through passport control it's euro's and sterling only) * they charge you three times as much to change money back at airport. * take a spare camera. electronics are very highly priced out there, if your camera breaks it'll cost you a fortune in throw aways. * pack of cards. entertainment can be a little non existant. Enjoy your holiday. I would love to go back. It's a fab holiday to completely unwind.
Europe Quality in Tunisia
Me and my girl stayed 10 days in this hotel with all inclusive. Great place to relax and enjoy the sun. The hotel is situated right in front of the beach, and you can access it from the pool area. The hotel has some sport activities and chairs for the guests, no extra cost. The beach itself is clean but not paradisiac, the water is calm and warm. The great in this hotel is the pool, the animation during the day is not great but the staff very nice and funny. The pool is big, and has a corridor with a stream that pusshes you from one end to the other of the pool. You have a bar inside the pool, alchoolic beverages are not so good. The food is good, lots of variety but tends to be repetitive aftes 5 or 6 days. Try the local dishes (every day one different), the couscous is very good. The staff is freindly but not very quick to solve problems, I had my air conditioning half-broke for 2 days. Animation at night is kind of poor, but the staff try their best. There is also a center with turk bath, sauna, massages, etc. You should receive one session for free. One negative aspect is that people seems to wake up early to get the best places by the pool, but then these places seems to be empty for the day. Enough places for all though.
yasmine hammamets best hotel
if your thinking of going to yasmine hammamet for a holiday you will have an eye opening experience then go to the iberostar averroes its the best hotel in yasmine the only one directly on the beach extremly clean the food is to die for all the staff are very friendly and helpful . you have JAMEL in the resturant, FRED in the bar and ABDHOUL on the beach to cater for all your water sport needs he is also an excellent wind surfer if you meet him tell him MR DAVE told you to come and see him he is a very good friend of mine the life gaurds round the pool will get you a sunbed if you ask them. i myself have been four times to this hotel in the last two years and im going back 23/09/2007 if you need photos e mail me and i will send you some more best regards MR DAVE
Not the best all inclusive I've been on
Stayed here in June for 2 weeks. I booked flights via Expedia from Heathrow to Tunis. The transfer is around 40 mins from Tunis Airport. I think Monistar airport is further away. The cost of the transfer/taxi was £40 and the hotel arranged this for me. I booked the hotel direct on the iberostar website and asked for 2 interconnecting rooms on the ground floor and that is exactly what I got. The rooms are very spacious and there is plenty of wardrobe space etc. The staff at this hotel are excellent right down from the cleaners to the waiters- they can't do enough for you and they are very good with children. You are allocated a table in the dining room on arrival and that is your table for the rest of your stay. The all inclusive food selection is OK but not the best I've ever had. The cooked breakfast was a bit strange, very rarely had bacon and the sausages were like hot dog sausages. There was a chef cooking fried eggs/omelettes etc and baking fresh pastries/croissants every day. They do have around 5 different cereals on offer and yoghurts/cold meats etc. Lunch and dinner was slightly better-always a chef cooking fresh pasta/pizza, chef carving meat along with veg/meat and fish dishes. The puddings were very very nice!!! The restaurant also has a microwave in case you need to warm food/milk for babies. Entertainment was a bit limited. Having a small child with us we never stayed past the mini disco so I couldn't really comment on what the entertainment was like. One bad thing about the entertainment was that it was away from the main bar in a separate room so if you were at the mini disco or wanted to stay and watch the show you have to keep leaving the children or show if you wanted to go and get a drink. The entertainment would have been better suited in the main bar area. There were plenty of sunbeds around the pool and we never had a problem finding 4 no matter what time we went to the pool although if you wanted a sunbed with an umbrella you did need to get up early. Location wise the hotel is well suited as it is directly on the beach. There are shops directly across the road and a late night pharmacy or a 15 minute stroll up to the medina there are more shops, a theme park and there is a big supermarket selling nappies etc next to the ice rink. There are mini trains which run around the town regularly along with horse and carts if you don't fancy the walk. p.s make sure you take mosquito protection!!
Nice hotel in good location
I have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Iberostar Averroes, along with my wife and 2 year old son. The hotel itself is in a great location, right on the beach front and within yards of the main street that’s got plenty of bars, shops, etc. It is around 75 minutes from Monastir airport. So a breakdown of the hotel and surrounding area. Hotel Grounds As expected for an Iberostar resort, the hotel was kept in top condition. Whether you were indoors or outdoors the staff were working around the clock maintaining the building and landscaped areas. The main reception offers plenty of seating, and this is carried on into bar which is separated into smoking and non smoking. Pools and Area Three pools, one of them situated indoors which forms part of the Spa area. The children’s pool is of a decent size and around 0.5m deep all around. The main pool is of good size, and does have a swim up bar. All of the pools were very, very cold during our stay. You need to be quick each morning though to get a decent sunbed if you like the shade option. The hotel does attract a large amount of Germans who stick to the 6am rise to place a towel on the beds!!!!! Restaurant Two options, the main buffet and the Al a Carte restaurant (1 sitting per week). Main buffet offers plenty of food throughout the day, but can feel much repeated if staying for two weeks. In a morning you can have eggs freshly cooked either fried or as an Omelette. Plenty of pastries / pancakes. Main Meal times, always around 4 choices of different meats, pasta & pizza counter, plenty of salads and cheeses and the best part…………….. Great desserts. The Al a Carte restaurant is Italian. We went once. The meal was good (but small). If you have young children it maybe too much for them, when we went we were in there three hours before we had finished as the waiters wait too long between courses. Bars One main bar indoors, and one pool bar. Offers a selection of beers, wines, cocktails and spirits. If you want a good cocktail or mixer, ensure you ask for a decent ‘dose of alcohol as they are very weak if not. Staff These are what made the hotel (and holiday) so great. Whether you were in the reception, bar, restaurant or even walking through the grounds the staff would always say ‘Hello and offer a smile. All the staff wanted to entertain our two year old son, and all adored him. Special mention for the bar staff. These guys were amazing and after day two they always knew what drinks I wanted and would have them ready on approach to the bar! Overall Great holiday and another great Iberostar hotel. Great value for money for what we paid and would go back in future. One downside was the air-conditioning. The hotel only use this from Mid June to Mid Aug. Few other mentions: Great walk from the hotel down to the Marina. Currently undergoing construction work but can still walk round safely and adore the boats. No issues with locals. We had the usual shop workers try and entice us into there shops but just say NO and they understand. Mosquitoes are a major issue. One woman we spoke to had 79 bites and she mentioned she never normally gets bit!! Buy some fly-spray and treat your room each night before you go out Any questions please e-mail me.
A Lovely Place for a relaxing holiday
My husband and I had a lovely relaxing two week stay at the Averroes with our 2 year old daughter. The hotel is in a good location, right on the beach and within easy reach of shops etc. Our room was on the top floor and had a wonderful sea view - (we upgraded on arrival and it was well worth it! ) We were all inclusive and found the food to be very good - BUT don't expect traditional british bacon and eggs etc or a childrens menu - if your children are fussy eaters this may not be the hotel for you, although our 2 year old ate really well! The hotel caters for a wide range of european guests and Brits are in the minority here. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made a big fuss of our daughter. We didn't join in the evening entertainment except for the mini disco which seemed to go down well with everyone. I would quite happily go back here again, it's not a place for party animals but a good quality hotel in a great location for those seeking a relaxing holiday.
Our bet option in Hammamet
We made recently a travel to Tunis with 2 days in Hammamet, a 7 day circuit and another 2 days in Hammamet. Everybody reccomended us the Phenicia so we elected it for the 2 first days and the Averroes for the 2nd ones. In my opinion the Averroes is better than the Phenicia. It is newer, it is closer to the beach (real direct access from the pool because in the Phenicia you must walk 10 minutes through the hotel gardens) and the staff was more useful and pleasant to us. The food is very good (but is better in the Phenicia) and the rooms are really spacious (as in all the hotels, in fact). the bathrooms are very good and the sight of the sea (if you pay for it) from the terrace is breathtaking, not like in the Phenicia. The location is also better: is in the middle of Yasmine so you cant walk ouside and have something to drink or eat outside. In the Phenicia that is impossible if you don't take a Taxi. You can go also to the port or to the new medina. In conclusion: If I return to Hammamet i would return to this hotel. It is a 4 star hotel but it is a superior one.
Went Twice in same year June and Oct so something must be good
We went twice to this hotel, once in June/July, then again in October. Travel - Airport, immigration forms to fill on plane, and can be queues but depends on number of flights arriving at same time. Make sure you keep the other half f your green form for your return journey. Long trip (1.5 hrs) from airport to hotel so sit back and rest! Resort Not much around hotel itself, and if you do go out, you will be pestered repeatedly by flower selling children who ought to be at home! Depending on season, mozzies are a real pain, got bitten to death in June, but not so bad in Oct. Hotel facilities Pool really good. Sunbed game applies, up by 7am or you may not get choice. Indoor pool also open in October in case weather a bit cooler. Pool in October (outside) REALLY COLLLLLLLDDDD ! Brrrrr. Weather in October really good, 30+ degrees every day, just shorter length of day. June, 35degrees+, Very Hot You can pay for massage and other treatments, which although not cheap (£30 for 1.5 hour) you do get a lot. Salt scrub, Hamman (steam room), all over body massage with lemon oil, really relaxing. Rooms were good both times, big beds, made up each day, clean and tidy, although the toilet flush can be hard work. Sea view deffo worth the cost, but not on ground floor (coz you cant see the sea!) Staff helpful and friendly everywhere. Food Restaurant not bad, although some repetition after a while it's a bit samey. Tunisian specialities like Chorba soup is nice, but again repeated. Desserts plentiful, with ice-cream at lunch and dinner - there are a lot of nuts used in the desserts so watch out if you don't like this (like me). Entertainment Animation team do lots of activities, but lock up your daughters, as they do follow the expectation of having a different girl each week. I'll let you make your own mind up on this, but they are all friendly, and try to involve people day and night. Daytime - beach volleyball, aerobics, aqua-gym, boule, football, and smaller games like darts, and made-up games (high season). Nighttime - more in June than October, and did actuially get in way of World Cup games !! That aside, they have fire-eating (only outside), and dancing, kids disco (birdy song etc). The guys speak 3 or 4 languages, but not fluently. Ronaldo (as he looks like him), Sam (six-pack) (and why we went back the 2nd time - hopefully he's got over his love life issues), Manu (bossy git), Simone (young and great with my son) and others depending on time of year, all great, but like I said, they all like the idea of 1or more English girlfriends. I would say more, but how much can you read - it's a great hotel, with good facilities, and good staff. Enjoy
Fabulous value
Spent 2 weeks at the Iberostar Averroes at the beginning of September, and had a fantastic holiday. This is the 2nd Iberostar we have been to, and so far they are the best resorts we have stayed in.We paid £693 each for 2 weeks all inclusive!! What amazing value. The selection of food was very good, something for everyone, only problem was that it was, at best warm, but mostly cold. However there was a microwave available that we 'Brits' could use to heat the food up with.Be warned, if you want freshly squeezed orange juice at breakfast you will have to pay for it, as well as any non local drinks, your room safe will cost you £1 a day (well worth it) The rooms were huge, beautifully clean and nicely furnished, clean towels each day, and sheets changed frequently. One tip: when you arrive at the hotel it is worth asking if they have any sea view rooms available, they only charge £28 , compared with £40/£60 if you book with travel agents. The views from the non sea view side of the hotel are not inspiring, and could be a bit noisy early morning and evening. The entertainment in the hotel was a bit hit and miss, but as we went with friends, it didn't really bother us. The Brits are very much in the minority in this hotel, mostly French,German & Italian. Some of the other Brits we spoke to found this a problem, but it was fine with us, nice to speak to other fellow Europeans!!There was no problem getting sunbeds, unless you wander down at 10 or 11am! The swimming pool area is lovely, and so close to the beach, which is beautiful. Great selection of water sports. We went on 2 trips: The African Dream, where we visited a Zoo, and then went into a mud hut for a meal and African dancers entertaining us. good evening. Second trip was an overnight trip where we went camel riding in the Sahara, saw the places where Star Wars & The English Patient was filmed,Oasis and wonderful scenery. There are 2 Medina's close by. The one in Hammamet Town is much more intense, and they are quite pushy, whereas the one in Hammamet Yasmine was much calmer. You just have to learn to say no thank you if you aren't interested, or be prepared to barter if you are! Hammamet Yasmine resort is very attractive, and very pleasant to mooch around either during the day or at night, good restaraunts and cafe's. All in all a great holiday, and fantastic value for money, wouldn't hesitate to return.
