Hilton Dunkeld House Hotel & Country Club Reviews
Dec 2005, Mr R Fraser
The Hilton dunkeld is timeless, it is a fabulous place to go for a romantic getaway, we went up for 1 overnight, the room was lovely we stayed in one of the suites which isn't in the main hotel but in a separate building on the grounds of the hotel. It is a very quite a... more

Great hotel!!
from WickedTour
This place was amazing! I booked it through the Hilton website using Hilton Honors points for a one-night stay. Driving up to the property through the sheep fields we saw a stag. We kept thinking we were in the wrong place, because it was too gorgeous to be a Hilton. When we walked in we were immediately greeted by friendly employees who immediately offered us a dram of whiskey or sherry. We stayed in the modern part of the hotel which wasn't glamorous but was neat and tidy and quaint. The dinner was fabulous and the breakfast was wonderful. Sure, it has a lived-in look, but its appeal lies in the idea that you're visiting a laird's estate rather than a sterile place of business. The walks around the grounds were beautiful and its location couldn't have been better. We even wound up booking another night because we couldn't bear the thought of leaving. I will definitely be back.
not bad!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night when we went sphering in dunkeld (ie rolling down a hill in a giant ball!). usually this hotel would be a bit pricey for us (we're students) but got a good deal... intial impression of the hotel was good... nice long driveway, lovely building - all very fancy. our room was in general wade's house, out of the main building - not bad, except it was supposedly a deluxe room which is meant to have a garden view - instead it wasnt the best view, and was a bit small - old fashioned decor and the bathroom smelled of damp or something! the room was quite warm but there was a fan - although this was extremely dusty. despite this, breakfast was really nice (huge variety!) and the staff were friendly. the area is pretty and we had a good stay - the place could just do with a bit of a clean and some modernising! would probably stay here again if ever in the area, but ask for a room in the main building.

Unimpressive Hilton Hotel
from F10nna
I stayed at the Hilton in Dunkeld for one evening only as the hotel was fully booked for the other nights I wanted. Having stayed at many Hilton Hotels in other countries including London I expected something better than this hotel. The hotel appeared very tired and in need of decoration. Unlike the other Hilton Hotels there was no complimentary water in the rooms nor was there a mini bar. When we got to the bar we ordered a bottle of white wine and 2 glasses - the person serving us placed the wine in a wine bucket and left us to take it to our table - I couldn't believe that in such a hotel we were left to carry everything ourselves. I was glad that I had not been able to book the extra days stay which I originally wanted and was very glad to leave the hotel
Tired, Dated, Overpirced

Visited the hotel with my girlfriend for a one night weekend stay. While the hotel is not terrible, it is in need of some updating and seriously needs to re-think it's pricing. When we arrived, because we have a hilton honours card, we were up-graded to a suite. However, although the room was large, it was like walking into something from the 1950's, the bed was made out of an old fishing boat and the view overlooked a extractor fan above the kitchen, not nice! We managed to get a new room in the newer part of the hotel, which was 100% better, although it was infested with a number of dead and alive blue-bottle flies, therefore my advice would be, don't pay more for a suite, as it will be located in the old, tired part of the hotel. The evening meal was ok, food was average, nothing special. However, the drinks were totally overpriced, not one bottle of white wine was under £24 and it cost £5.60 for a gin and lemonade. They clearly think they can rip people off, just because they are located in rural perthshire. Breakfast was also a joke. Not the greatess of choice, we also had to make our own toast and had to queue for the cooked breakfast, which was about 25 people deep and queued around the restaurant. If your looking for a getaway in perthshire I would avoid the hilton dunkeld and try Monachyle Mhor instead.
Deluxe room only!

Having stayed at the hotel some 10 Years ago I booked up looking forward to it very much and got a great deal on Dinner Bed and Breakfast. Nearly walked out when we got to our room, would have if they had not moved us. Must not have been decorated in the past 10 years, water stain on the ceiling, heating on full blast with the sun scorching outside, could not open windows, but would not want to as above the bins. The room was tiny barely enough room to get around the bed, just awful. Supposedly traditional Scottish decor, just an excuse for old and bad. Offered a choice of other rooms, but would have to pay £20 extra. Did not want to waste our night away so paid for a deluxe room overlooking the courtyard. Nice tasteful decor in a spacious room that could not have been more different from the first. Also looked at a family room in the lodges, nice and more traditional again, but still a different world from the first room. The food and staff were nice and helpful, just do not understand why they try to sell this room. Other standard rooms were better, but still way below standard, they just need to make the changes and drag the whole hotel up to the same standard. If booking pay the extra for the deluxe rooms and lessen the chance of disappointment.
Used to be Great! not anymore...

We have stayed often but not in recent years until very recently, we would not recommend this hotel anymore as all our friends & family would be disappointed with the overall quality. The Hotel itself is extremely tired on the outside, inside the Staff in general are all friendly & helpful, however the whole Hotel lacks any 'personal touch' which I can say was definately there before. The food was of poor quality ( I am an average/good cook and nothing comes in a packet in our house) My starter was Tempura of Vegetables with dips, this consisted of a peice of brocoli & cauliflower in crispy batter the size of an average lady's hand palm and 3 strips of carrot, all to be dipped into salsa or garlic mayo, I must admit I ate a few bits until I realised it should have really been 'mushroom, pepper, babycorn or whatever, indeed not a head of brocoli or cauli! We both had Beef Stroganoff with Rice & Fries... the beef was tough and there were only 3 peices (strips) the cream sauce was watery and very bland and the rice was micro'd out ( dry & hard), the fries were good, so we sent the main courses back to receive another which was really not alot better, a little more finer beef & they had added salt to the sauce....... the sweets were good with plenty to choose from. Breakfast in the morning was good also. We didn't bother to say anything we just decided we will not go back to Hilton but we will tell everyone about our bad experience!
great short break
from cnjs
We have just returned from a very good break at this hotel. We were very pleased with the quality of the food, response from the staff and facilities available. The hotel is going through a major refurbishment and though our room had not been updated it was a good size and extremely clean and comfortable. We had dinner, bed and breakfast and the dinner was superb, service was excellent and the food was the highest quality. We would suggest anyone would enjoy this hotel and we will certainly returrn soon.
Ok, Could have been better

We were up at Dunkeld for a family gathering a party. The house does have the most fantastic setting, right next to the River Tay, wonderful views and location. The drive is beautiful and the bluebells were out making it even more beautiful. Sadly that is where the beauty ends. The hotel needs a MAMMOUTH refurbishment. Most if not all the upholstry had holes. My parents room had a massive water stain on the ceiling, the bathroom was filled with mould - the bath grab handle came off!!! and it stank of stale smoke. The food is very much mass produced, all the deserts were made from frozen. The food was very rich and if like us, you're staying for more than one night there's no variance on the options. Finally when we checked out my aunt's bill was wrong not once, but about 6 times as they kept on putting on random charges!!! We think they have very high staff turnover as most of the staff hadn't been there very long. Sad as it has so much potential. Please don't go by the "Hilton" tag and expect the "Hilton" standard of service as you'll be seriously disappointed.
Superb

I recently stayed at the hotel to celebrate a special birthday and had a fantastic time. We booked a deluxe room on a db&b basis and were very pleased with the room it was lovely, clean, tidy and modern. The hotel its self is outstanding very "monarch of the Glen". The staff were very friendly and responsive. We made good use of the leisure centre and again were not disappoiinted. As we had booked under a db&b I thought the dinner would have restrictions as to what you can order, but no - the full menu was available (including crocadile!". The food was delicious and service very quick. There is nothing I could say to fault this hotel we loved our trip so much so we are going back for our aniversary in October!

I booked and received Hilton confirmation on July 3rd for the night of August 16th. Not only they had the nerve to debit my credit card the total amount of the stay on July 4th (1 and a half month before my stay) but when we arrived the room was not available due to an... more
