Hilton Aberdeen Treetops Hotel Reviews

5 / 10
Dec 2007, Miss S Ridhuwan

The hotel has all the amenities a 4/5 star hotel should have, a fitness centre, tennis court and heated indoor pool, among others. It’s rooms also offer Playstation and Internet access (though available at a price). But for a luxury hotel which bears 'Hilton' name, it is... more

Excellent value for money.
Had a lovely weekend at the Treetops with three friends. Saw a weekend deal on the internet and booked direct with the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the accommodation had been recently refurbished. Excellent value for money. Will return again and most certainly recommend it.
Wedding guests left disappointed
Stayed for 3 nights as we were attending a wedding here. Shocked to find out about the car parking charges. The service in bar and restaurant were awful throughout our stay. Only 1 barman even during the wedding for approx 140 guests. Food service and standard of food so bad that 9 of us had our meal comped on the first night. Waited over an hour for cold pub style grub at extortionate prices. Bar was a total rip off. The hotel is quite far from city centre but worth the trip in taxi to get decent meal. Paid £74 per night for tiny double room. Walls are so thin could hear the guy snoring in the next room. Swimming pool and gym looked good though. Overall would advise avoid this hotel if possible.
Pleasantly surprised
After reading some of the reviews on here I was a little concerned about what we would find when we arrived for our weekend break at Treetops but we were not disappointed. Once again we were taking advantage of the Hilton Special rates for a 2 night stay with Dinner on the first night and breakfast both mornings. For £89.50 per night it is very good value at this hotel however beware of the rather excessive supplements on some of the dinner menu items. We thought this was a little bit naughty as dinner was supposed to be inclusive of the price but more than 50% of the items on the menu carried a suppliment. The food however was of a very good standard and we enjoyed all our meals. Breakfast is the typical Hilton Buffet and was presented well with a chef in attendance to watch over any items that needed replenishing. Our room (127) was beautiful and looked as if it had been recently refurbished. All the usual amenities were available apart from a mini-bar or fridge. Ice was delivered free of charge within minutes of requesting it and a large Room Service Menu was on hand. The size was not an issue either and although the bed was only Queen size the room had a 2 seater settee and an armchair. The bathroom was very clean and Evelyn & Crabtree toiletries were complimentary. The bar was very poorly attended but we put this down to the very expensive prices being charged. Before 10.00pm they had a promotion with acceptable prices for drinks on offer however after 10.00pm the prices were extortionate. A single shot of blended whisky was £3.50 and a 250ml glass of the house wine was in excess of £7.00. Needless to say we didn't stay. Both evenings of our stay Gary the Magician and his rabbit Basil were on hand in the dining room and reception areas to entertain and Gary is very good. He stopped by at our table and performed a couple of tricks and kept us entertained until our starter arrived. He was fantastic with all the children and amused them when they became a little bit restless during dinner. All in all this was an enjoyable stay in a pleasant hotel with friendly staff. The location is a 15 minute bus ride from the city centre or about £6 in a taxi. We agree with a lot of the previous reviewers who commented about the £3 charge for parking. Surely there is no need for this especially for guests however we recommend that you check the barrier at the exit prior to paying as often it is in the open position and a free exit is available.

Parking - It is not acceptable that the hotel charges guests for parking when it is clearly not at a premium due to the suburban location (understandable if it was a city centre location). My advice - park accross the street and save £5 per day. Not that I was paying for it but "it is the principle"!
Not at normal Hilton standard
I stay in many Hilton locations and a HH member, but this is definitely not up to normal Hilton standard for me. The hotel needs renovation bad. The carpet seems to be worn, and kind of dark and musky smell in some locations. It seems the furnitures are tired and outdate somewhat. The management needs to monitor and train their staff better. The quality and attitude of the people seemed to vary a lot. The first day when I check-in, the receptionist was cold and to the point of rude. I asked for a map for direction, and she was very hesitate and implied I was an idiot needing a map. However, this morning, another receptionist was super-nice and smile. So wish us customers luck depending who is at the desk. There is room for improvement. To be honest, most of the staff was friendly, but it only takes one or two bad apples that make me rethink coming back. The restaurant breakfast is pretty good with hot and cold items, The waitresses was attentive and nice! The gym is better equipped than most hotels in town. There is not much to do near the hotel and is kind of far from city certer. You are pretty much forced to eat at the hotel restaurant unless you are willing to call a taxi.
Horrible Experience!
I went to Aberdeen for work during the month of April. I stayed at the HIlton Treetops and my room was disgusting. The windows was tilted open and easily someone could have been walking around outside my window on the first roof level. I thought the window was broken but when the staff came by, they said that no, that is how it should be in order to let the cool air in! My bathroom didn't look very clean and my toilet barely worked. This was a very unpleasant experience from someone who is lucky enough to have an employer who usually puts her in high end hotels. I'm surprised that this even made the list with the shape it was in. My co worker's shower curtain had mildew on it.
Great Hotel Excellent service
Surpised by some of the reviews this hotel has had. During our stay in July 2007. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and nothing was a bother. The chef came out each evening to check that everything was ok, the accomodation was first class. The best holiday ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Pauline Kirkland on behalf of SDAHW
Excellent
Most of the reviews below are very surprising. To be fair it would normally tend to be people with issues that feel the need to share their comments though! No one bothers so much with praise. My stay was highly enjoyable, from the help with luggage at the door, reception check in, the room and services to the excellent meal in the restaurant and general friendliness of the staff there. Despite being short staffed the manager/supervisor for the night still found time to get our children some colouring pencils etc to occupy them. This was a nice touch. There was also a magician one evening which gave the kids some fun and us some relaxing time. The staff were very chatty and made the meal an excellent experience. I would say I see the point of view with smallish rooms but at the end of the day very little time is spent in them so it shouldnt allow you to be negative towards a bunch of people who are one of the nicest i have met in hotels across the world. The chef was also out of the kitchen regularly checking if food was being enjoyed which was another good touch. Between him and the supervisor (who was only in training at the time) we felt valued. I am led to believe that since a lot of the reviews below there have been changes to kitchen staff and the whole bar/restaurant set up seems to me to be a very professionally run operation - worth noting that the place was at capacity both nights we ate too, yet we still recieved amazing service. Would highly recommend ignoring the below comments and give the place a go. We certainly will again.
Highly Recommended
I stayed at the Hilton Aberdeen last weekend and had a lovely time. Upon our arrival, the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The general manager also introduced himself to us when we were checking in, which I thought was a very personal touch. The bedroom we stayed in had been recently refurbished and was very clean, modern and spacious. We ate in the restaurant that night and the food and service was fantastic and very quick. The Livingwell gym is also very good, with up to date equipment and the pool was a great size for a hotel. It's in a good location, not too far from the city centre but far enough away from the noise. On a whole, the service was fantasic and is good value for money. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Aberdeen to stay there.
The worst hotel I've ever stayed in
This is truly the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The problems started before we even got there; my boyfriend was booking the room, and it took ages for them to bother answering the phone; they hadn't even invested in a professional-sounding answer machine! The interior is dark and dank, the receptionist curt and surly. We were waved in the vague direction of our room instead of shown there, and when we got there, it was a massive disappointment. The room faced onto the kitchen/deliveries area, was full of a selection of hideous furniture (which made it feel like a semi-converted office room), and it turned out we'd been put in a disabled room, so we didn't even have a bath (just a "wetroom" with the shower in a corner, and an inadequate shower-curtain, which meant that the entire floor of the bathroom was inch-deep in water, as the drain did not work very well). The TV remote was rubbish, as was reception on a couple of the channels. The bed was clean the first night, but the second night it was clear that they'd just tidied it up, and not put clean sheets on. We were at the hotel for a wedding; the ceremony itself took place about 30 minutes away, but the meal and reception was at the hotel; whatever wedding package the bride and groom paid for, it wasn't worth it. We got back from the ceremony to find that the room hired for the reception wasn't anywhere near ready; they crammed us into a bar to wait and drink our champagne, and charged us for tea and coffee if we wanted it. The meal itself was extremely poor; I couldn't tell if the cherry tomatos on my starter were marinated in some exciting sauce, or if they were just rotten. Since I was sick later that evening (no, I hadn't drunk enough to be slightly merry, let alone drunk, so it wasn't that) I concluded that it must have been the latter option. The "chicken" breasts for the main course tasted like they were made from reclaimed chicken meat that had been shaped into chicken-breast-shapes. The "continental cheese platter" had brie, edam, red leicester and stilton (the last two are UK cheese, not continental) and tasted like Tesco value mousetrap. The swimming pool/steam room etc were rather nice, but far too chlorinated, and when we checked out of the hotel, they didn't offer to call us a taxi. Overall, this was a very bad experience, which I will never repeat again. I have always thought of the Hilton Hotel Chain as the epitome of luxury, but it was clear that this particular hotel is poorly maintained, poorly managed, and that they have no idea of how to create a welcoming feeling.
