Had the Wheels Nicked!!!!
We booked an overnight stay ahead of our flight to Florida recently and 2 weeks "secure" parking on the basis that the hotel advertised car parking free from stress and hassle. The were barriers on the car park and CCTV cameras to give us some cause to belive our car would be safe. When we returned 2 weeks later, after a 9 hour flight, we were met by the Duty manageress to be told there had been an "incident" in the car park while we were away. The "incident" turned out to be the car was now on bricks and all 4 wheels were stolen.<br... more
Good hotel if price is right
Stayed for 3 nights over Easter as a get away and do some sight seeing and shopping. Not your typical base - but great rate on offer so expectations not too high. Hilton's "Advance Purchase Dinner 1st night rate" booked through it's website is £49.50 a night B&B and dinner on night 1 - unbelievably great value, and quite a difference to rack rates of £158-198. Hotel is very convenient for driving to, just adjacent to motorway, and there is a large car park - that can get quite full. Charging for the car park seems high, but I was... more
Typical airport hotel
I have had four stays at this hotel on business trips in January, February and March 2007. The hotel has the feeling of a typical airport hotel, and is full of either overnight stayers for the nearby East Midlands Airport, or business travellers either passing through or at events in the hotel. The rooms are all clean and tidy, although some have leaky taps or noisy water pipes, and there is often some noise in the hotel, which can be an issue when people are leaving very early for early flights. All the rooms seem to have the... more
Standard Hilton - i.e. the epitome of mediocrity
Stayed here at short notice whilst travelling for business It was *OK*, in the way these Hiltons are always *OK* - clean, relatively efficient, reasonable spacious - but they're all so mediocre I find them incredibly depressing Ugly architecture outside, rather tired early 90s US hotel "chic" - fake marble, that weird green/orange fake wood everywhere, ugly plaster mouldings, you know the type of thing. Fixtures and fittings (bathroom, TV etc) looking a bit tired Really these places are no better than Travelodges - at least... more
Try an alternative
We booked a room and 15 days parking at this Hilton. After a very long and tiring drive we arrived to find we had been given a smoking room although we had booked non-smoking. There was no apology given and quite a wait before we were allocated another room. We opted to eat in the bar: the service we received and that we witnessed of other guests was the worst I have ever experienced. On the plus side parking is on site, so stress-free and the taxi to the airport was on time. However, we had a long wait on our return and... more
average - pleasant - good gym
I have stayed here a few times on business. I generally find the front of house/ reception staff very helpful however many of the bar staff are foreign which can be awkward at times. Bar food is above average but not amazing - breakfast is fantastic with a huge choice. Fantastic gym facilities. Small swimming pool but does have a jacuzzi - staff are v friendlt & helpful. Rooms are comfortable & spacious. Car parking v expensive (about £24? ish). I don't know how much it costs (company pays) however I would not be... more
Souless, expensive, but handy
I've stayed a few timed here, when visiting nearby relatives. I'm starting to find that the price of evening dinner is creeping up, above what's acceptable. You are somewhat trapped here, so there is no alternatives without driving miles. Pool is about the size you'd expect for a hotel this size. You will need to book if the hotel gets busy, which is a bit of a pain if you have kids. As per previous posts, this is a typical, bland, corporate hostel, frequented by travelling salespersons and their ilk. There really is not... more
Quite and Clean - traffic a nightmare
Like lots of other Hilton Hotels around the country, this hotel is clean and comfortable. Drink prices terrible - but you come to expect that now from Hiltons. The restaurant did not have a vast array of food on offer - but what was on offer was very presentable. The desk staff could have been friendlier but the bar and restaurant staff were great - smiles and thank you's. We had a small "do" in one of the meeting suites with coffee/tea cakes and sandwiches. Very nice - and when we were about to run out, the staff bought more.<br... more
Slightly above average Hilton
I've stayed in a whole heap of Hiltons and the quality varies quite dramatically. This one is OK. I say OK because it's just so bland corporate Hilton. Everything is nice and clean and reasonably modern. The bed comfortable, the rooms a good size, good service etc. However the rooms are so dark. What's with all the dark wood and gold plated furnishings? OK for a business trip, I wouldn't come here for a romantic break or holiday though. I think it's time Hilton modernized. Also it's a nightmare to drive too / away from during rush... more
Useful park and fly deal from chain hotel
Stayed here overnight prior to flying from East Midlands airport. Got a good deal including car parking and complementary taxi service to the airport to and from the hotel (no shuttle buses or waiting etc). Services are what you would expect from a Hilton - all went according to plan, and the receptionist was very efficient and helpful. Room good size and clean, very quiet. Ate dinner at the hotel - it is in the middle of nowhere, so not much choice, unless you eat before you get there. Nothing special, but OK and the... more
