Hilton St Helens Hotel

Me and my partner stayed at the Park Inn, St Helens in August 2009 and only paid forty-something pounds by booking online. The hotel is close to the main high street and was very convenient when we both had a sneaky craving for a burger and chips! The rooms were quite basic, but they were tidy and well presented. Stayed in the hotel whilst visiting friends in the area. On arrival, the receptionist was very friendly, and i checked in no problems. The room was very clean and comfortable, but at night it did get quite warm, but the staff did bend over backwards to help me. Breakfast was very relaxed, and the young girl with curly hair (can't remember her name tho!) was very friendly, and only too happy to help when i asked for some directions into the town centre. We stayed at the hotel as we were attending a wedding held there. We booked a suite at a great rate of £115 for the night including breakfast. The room was ok, I was disappointed that there was only a standard double bed in the suite and that it had a very firm mattress, very uncomfortable. Upon arriving at our room after the evening reception, approx 1.15am, we were met with what sounded like a helicopter landing abouve us. What a disgrace! This is the worst hotel we stayed in, in the UK. The air con failed (staff tell me for 2 years!) and windows do not open. Stinking hot, unbearable. We had to change rooms as the wire was coming through the mattress! 2nd room was no better. Wet stains on the bed spread - what was that?! The shower curtain was smelly, mouldy and dirty, and the bathroom stunk like a public toilet. Peeling paint, and holes worn through the carpet. I took photos for my travel agent. Stayed here for 2 nights, no complaints. very clean .breakfast was very tasty Being so near the town centre the location was excellent as was the closeness to Liverpool and Manchester

Horrible, totally run down room. Wallpaper peeling all over the walls, bathroom would have needed renovation many years ago, too. Not possible to show awful situation with just a few pictures. Incredibly hot and sticky in room, window not to be opened, "air conditioning" did not improve temperature or humidity in any setting. Would not have spent another night in this room even if I had pre-paid for it. Lobby looks nice, pool area, too, but was totally overrun in evening and morning by local senior citizens

The Park Inn Hotel catered for our party when another hotel had double booked us. They gave us a discount rate and were very accomodating. The hotel was very nice inside and the rooms were lovely. Very comfortable and modern, They even had small bottle of wine and bottles of complimentary water for us. Most appreciated. Had quick snack in Hotel lounge which was very reasonable and tasty and the bar staff very efficient. Good location for St. Helens too as only short taxi trip £2.00 from all bars in center.
