Just returned from a fantastic week at the Mar y Huerta in Ibiza.
Hotel:
The hotel rooms are small, clean and basic with a ceiling fan to keep you cool. The bathroom definately needed refurbishing as it all looked old and tatty and nothing worked very well, however my mum's room had just been refurbished and had a brand new bathroom.
The maid service wasn't great. The floor wasn't cleaned and our bathroom towels were only changed once so we had to use our beach towels.
Our room was on the top floor so we had to climb 3 flights of stairs each time. This was fine for us but there's no lift so would not be good for disabled people.
The swimming pool was quite small but with no real problems. We only spent 1 day there as we preferred the beach.
Beaches:
There are 3 beaches in es cana which are all lovely. The main one is just opposite the hotel, and has a wide of range of activities such as parasailing, pedaloes, banana boats etc. There is a lot of seaweed in some parts of the sea which can be annoying but theres hardly any jellyfish which was great.
Restaurants and bars:
The hotel food was brilliant. Theres a continental breakfast including toast, croissants, boiled eggs, cheese, ham, cereal, juice, tea and coffee - all delicious. No full english but that was fine for us. There was a great selection at dinner with plenty for vegetarians such as myself. The evenings menu is displayed at reception each day.
There were different drinks offers at the bar each night which were great and all the hotel staff were friendly and helpful.
The are hundreds of bars and restaurants lining the streets of es cana so theres plenty of places to go for lunch and for a drink at night. A favourite of ours was a bar with sofas facing the sea - a great place to chill out with a jug of sangria! Theres not really any bars with loud music you can dance to but if you like that kind of thing you can always take a trip to san antonio.
Theres also an endless amount of souvineer shops and a funfair a night with trampolines, bumper cars etc for the kids.
Trips:
We went on a trip to san antonio to watch the famous sunset on a glass bottom boat. It was beautiful and we had some free time in san antonio after - definately worth doing.
We also went to the water park in playa den bossa which was quite small but a lot of fun!
The famous hippy market in es cana is held on a wednesday. It was fun to walk around for an hour or so but the stalls are all very similar, selling jewellery, bags and hippy-type clothes! Also more expensive than some of the shops.
Overall, we had a brilliant holiday and would definately recommend this resort and hotel.

We have stayed here before and absolutely love the hotel. Realistically you get exactly what you pay for. Do not expect The Ritz and A La Carte, what you get is convenient location at a quiet resort in a hotel that serves lovely and plentiful food. Now the real bonus. your Hosts and their staff. Always friendly and boundlessly helpful, we found we were treated as personal friends or family. We feel it is this that sets this hotel above others of it's class. We will be returning there.

Just returned home after two weeks in beautifull Ibiza. For the last 5 years we (as a family) have gone to Es Cana and for the first time stayed at the Mar Y Huerta.
We all really really enjoyed it there, the staff are polite, professional and friendly, the facilities are great and the buffet style breakfast/evening meal was brilliant.
We would recommend it to our friends and most certainly go there again.....soon I hope!
Our 2 1/2 year old daughter Maisie charmed everyone there, she has even been speaking Ibicean since we got home!!!!
Beautiful weather for 14 days too!!!

Just got back from a 2 week stay at end of June. My wife and I, and our children aged 2 and 4 really enjoyed our stay. Lovely location, very helpful and friendly staff. Nice pool but kids need to wear armbands etc as deep. Food was good quality and varied. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Only downsides are no air-con. Our second visit here and would come back again!

We booked an 8 day 7 night holiday to...

We booked an 8 day 7 night holiday to Mar Y Huerta Hotel independantly in Sept 2006 as a party of 7. When we got to the resort we were told we had been double booked so had accomodation arranged for us in a hotel up the road for 3 nights. Yes it was annoying that we couldnt unpack properly and settle seeing that we were only to be there just over a week but the hotel we stayed in was clean, the rooms were huge with seperate bedroom and balcony over looking a small pool but there was building works on the hotel behind.
When we moved down to the Mar Y Huerta Hotel although it is a small hotel it was quite pleasent with a nice bar area, a lovely pool area with sunbeds and eating area. There was no lift which with a small child and pushchair was hard work, especially getting heavy suitcases up and down. Breakfast was very basic. The staff were always friendly and the hotel clean.
The room was basic but clean, we hired a fridge and a fan as the ceiling fan wasnt very powerful and our room was at the back of the hotel so had the sun on it for best part of the day and even with the curtains closed it got very very hot. If we were to go back, even with a small child we would request a room at the front near the road just so as it wouldnt be so hot! The balcony was small too.
A pleasent budget hotel very well located for Es Cana beach and restaurants. Visit the Hippy Market, but not with a pushchair as its very busy and the ground is gravel so its hard to get a pushchair round. Also go on the boat to Santa Eulalia which is beautiful.

Just arrived back from 2 weeks at...

Jun 2008, Mr J P Hope

Just arrived back from 2 weeks at this hostel. The rooms are small but very well maintained and cleaned every day exept Tuesdays, (maids day off.) One odd thing about our room, 319, is on our balcony we had the window to room 320's bathroom!
The receptionist only does a few hours a day, morning and evening, but on 4 mornings is not there at all!! The night porter is also the pool attendant and handyman, so is never at the desk as he is cleaning the pool or doing other odd jobs around the hostel.
On the food front, breakfast is plain, basic continental breakfast, but with cereals thrown in. Evening meals are edible but with not much imagination. Always, Soup for starter. A mixed salad bar, (same salad items every night) then the hot food which always consists of a fish dish of some variety, a meat dish in some sort of sauce, vegetables, pasta of one variety or another, a dry meat dish, chips and a potato of another variety or rice and peas or a dry curry rice. I would go back again, if they did self catering, as there are plenty of bars/restaurants around.
One word of caution. The hostel is situated directly onto a road, with no pavement separating.
Beach is only 15-20 metres away, so thats a plus point.

We are returning to the Mar y Heurta...

Jun 2008, Miss J Spencer

We are returning to the Mar y Heurta for the 4 year in a row. The hostel is fantastic and very couple and family orientated.
Every door leads somewhere - either the bar, beach, pool etc. (very central!)
Great resort and very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms have always been spotless and are cleaned everyday.
Going back this year with my sister and her Fiance and i know they will love it as much as we do.
Would also recommend mo's tavern which is a bar up the road - they show all football matches and it is an extremely nice family run busniess - do cracking egg and chips :-).

My friend and I stayed at the Mar Y Huerta for one week and had an absolutely marvelous time. The rooms are basic but very clean, the food was good and the staff were lovely, the receptionist was extremely helpful and friendly.
The hotel is situated in a prime spot with everything on the door step; buses, taxi rank, beach and lovely restaurants and bars.
We will definitely be going back this year.

I went with my boyfriend for our first holiday, to relax before we went to university, our flight was at 6.30am and therefore was an early morning, when arriving at the hotel it was 9.30 and was told our room wasn't ready so we went off to do shopping as we was only staying for a week and it was a Wednesday and we wouldn't get the chance to go to the hippy market after. When we had finished at the hippy market we returned back to the hotel to find our room had been given to somebody else, a room which we had already booked and paid for.
A letter had been left by the receptionist telling us that we had to move hotels to their sister hotel which was about 100- 200 yards up the hill, and stay there for just ONE night and return back to the hotel where we was offered an apartment OR double room. When arriving at the other hotel there was no help around whatsoever so it meant we had to hang around with our suitcases until help arrived and we could get into our room, the room became too hot and the beds extremely uncomfortable.
When we returned back to the Mar y Huerta the receptionist was very rude, as my boyfriends mother who is also our travel agent had rang up not very happy as we are only a young couple at 19. She took away the offer of the apartment and put us in a twin room where the toilet seat was loose and came away from the toilet and the shower didn't stay a constant temperature, the rooms were very stuffy and the overhead fans didn't give off much air.
The only upside to our stay was the view we had from our balcony, as we was on the front and overlooked the beach it was phenomenal, this side however was still very noisy with the bars that surrounded the hotel in the resort.
The food was very unmatched and repetitive with not much choice for vegetarians (which I am), apart from soup as a starter and a main. The bar staff and staff at meal times were however extremely polite.
The hotel isn't very family orientated. I would never return to the hotel but will definitely return to the resort. VERY UNSATISFACTORY.

Just returned from a 2 weak stay at...

Sep 2007, Mr M Dean

Just returned from a 2 weak stay at this hostel not hotel, very freindly staff but you must realise its only a 2 star so don't expect the world. We was in a top floor room overlooking the Bay of Escana, lovely views over the sea. The room was ok, bathroom very small you could have sat on the loo brushed your teeth and took a shower all at the same time, thats how small it was.
The food was ok if you like pork for nearly every evening meal. Breakfast was toast, cheese, ham cereal and boiled eggs every morning with tea, coffee and juice. The pool area was very nice, the bar was very well stocked, special offers on different drinks every night. One minute walk from your room to the beach which was very nice and clean...... all in all a very nice hostel and very freindly staff.
