AMAZING SICILY

 's photos of Mediterranee Hotel

I would have to confirm that Sicily is a wonderful Island and should not be missed by anyone. The trips to Etna, Vulcano mud baths, The God Father Tour, and even a round the coast fishing boat trip are all a must for the bucket list.
The main Drag The Corsa Umberto is a posers paradise with people dressed in all the designer fashions and big sunglasses (the saying mutton dressed up as lamb, man what a laugh to sit and people watch.
If you stay at the Mediterranee do not take full board the hotel will tell you that you will pay big prices down in the town, not true and you get a great choice of real Italian food especially seafood mmmmmmmm you just need to shop around and eat off the main drag.
Avoid the Wunderbar very expensive.
The hotel waiters are excellent at the Mediterranee but at reception whilst pleasant I felt that once they had your money well sod off, on the day we left we were told to get out of our rooms at 10am and when we asked for a room where ther dozen departing guests could shower and change we were told no way no rooms available.
I had a problem with a table lamp and reported it to reception two days later still not fixed, so I fixed it myself, the air conditionering is noisy and poor and the hotel is not a 4 star it is shabby and the toilets and showers are very small.
There are some beautiful hotels to stay at and yes they will come at a price, try the Almond wine luverly. the cost of the wine in shops as opposed to the hotel was half the price Go visit Sicily it is a beatiful island with lots to see but it is very up and down high mountain place and you will need stamina.

One of the worst holidays we've had....

Mar 2008, Mr C Derry

One of the worst holidays we've had. A real disappointment. This was the last week before they closed for the season and it really showed in the standard of service. Due to low numbers staying ( in fact at times it felt that we were the only ones) there was no atmosphere. They decided not to provide the evening meals even though we were half board and so we had to trek each evening to a restaurant in town with a token provided by the hotel. The breakfast was so bad that we had to supplement it with our own supplies. The only thing going for this establishment was the views which were spectacular. In my view what we got was a 1 star holiday paid for at 4 star rates.

Dec 2007, Mrs S Freedman

Our first visit to this hotel was in 2005, we returned in 2006 and then again in 2007. This is testament to the resort and hotel as we would not normally do this.
I can't recommend this hotel enough! My husband and I both fell in love with it. The staff are fantastic, we've actually become friends with most of them and are always well looked after. If you are looking for a fantastic location, spectacular views and excellent food, look no further! It's all here and the rooftop swimming pool is heaven on earth. We will definitely return again.

Sep 2007, Mrs S Jones

We returned to the same hotel we visited 2 years ago and it was exactly the same as we remembered it. We had a fabulous 2 weeks.
Most of the staff even remembered us from before. No complaints what so ever and would definitely recommend.
As before, the hotel does need some updating but the welcome and service and good quality food more than make up for this.
If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing base with some excellent scenery this one is hard to beat.

Jun 2007, Mr R Williamson

This is a little gem of a hotel - small, clean, cool (air conditioned), shady, with spectacular views (from the rooms with balconies that are very definitely worth paying the extra 15 euros a night for.)
The staff are courteous and very friendly, dining room with waiter service, snowy tablecloths, high backed chairs and traditional continental buffet breakfast on the terrace framed by a mass of purple bougainvillea blossom with panoramic view of still snow patched and gently smoking Etna.
The lift is tiny but reliable, the gardens pretty and the pool has a fabulous mountain setting with great downward coastline views.
Rooms are small but adequate, with free standing traditional wooden cupboards and wardrobes and free safety deposit box in the lobby -- guarded by a suit of armour! Guests have use of the hotel's private lido beach a 15-minute, 5 Euro pp trip away but there's no charge for loungers and no overcrowding.
Town centre is close by -- down a hill with 40 steps -- and very quaint with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. There's also a stunning Greek theatre an easy stroll away. Though full of tourists Taormina feels and looks like a lovely local Italian / Sicilian town.
There were no yobs, or Germans, and overall the hotel, food and holiday were fabulous. 18 - 30's would hate it -- but this baby boomer and his better half loved it.
P.S. Take the Godfather tour. It's a lot of fun and the ancient villages of Savoca and Forza d'Agrò are not only beautiful but are -- just like something out of a movie!

We could have written the previous review submitted by Mrs Freedman. It summed up the hotel perfectly. Initial impressions where that the hotel needed some updating but none of that mattered as the food, weather, service and everything about the hotel and resort were fabulous.
So much so we've booked for 2007 - same hotel - only this time we're going for 2 weeks instead of 1! The climb up the hill back to the hotel was certainly a struggle, especially in the heat, but it was worth it, especially the views of Etna and the coastline below.
Whatever you do, it's definitely worth paying extra for a room with a sea view. One of my lasting memories will be eating breakfast each morning on the veranda, in the sun, looking out to Etna. It doesn't get much better than that.

This hotel at first sight seemed a bit dated, but once settled, it was very traditional! The hotel was immaculate, the food fantastic and the staff could not do enough for us.
The views over the sea and mount Etna were spectacular and the beautiful rooftop swimming pool also had wonderful views.
The location would not be suitable for those with walking difficulties as there are steep steps to it.
Although the decor in the rooms is pretty basic, and the shower not that great, everything else made up for it.
I would certainly recommend this and am planning to go back again next year.
