On I going on my first holiday abroad alone and wanted to go somewhere with history and something to fill my time. On my first day there after checking into the hotel which was fairly basic but clean. It was also right in the heart of everything so I could shop all day... more

Never again!
from Jodus
Quite possibly the most overrated hotel we stayed in on our trip. We're still dumbfounded how this "hotel" can be considered a 3 star. We arrived relatively late in Sorrento on the 3rd of August and the tourist information centre recommended this hotel as having a vacancy and a pool. We were greeted by hotel reception who told us that we had a room that could be considered a "penthouse" room (it was the only room on the floor and it was a footstep away to the large rooftop terrace). Yes, this hotel does have a pool, includes breakfast and is in close proximity to the train station and main street. However, do such positive attributes mean that a traveller must endure: * a window that literally fell of the hinges after we opened it. We immediately notified the reception desk who asked that we try to reaffix the window and said they'd be straight up. After having waited 1/2 hour for someone to come up we rang again and requested somebody's attendance (as well as notifying him of the towel issues - see below) but nobody arrived. We rang again later but this time our calls were unanswered. When we went downstairs we saw nobody in reception due to their need to do pseudo-waiting duties in the dining room whilst covering the front desk. * a tablecloth for a towel. Normally a room has two towels. In our room's case we had one real towel, whilst the other "towel" that was hanging up was a white table cloth masquarding as one. We asked reception for another towel. We were promised one would be brought up but that never happened. * a toilet that did not finish its flushing cycle for over 2 minutes. Whilst this does not sound long, a normal toilet is normally done in 10 - 15 seconds. Listening to that toilet gargle, trickle, splash and spatter was not a pleasant experience. * a hand towel that was used to cover the fact that there was no proper shower waste/trap. We removed the wet hand towel and this was defintiely a mistake - what it revealed was a dark, seemingly bottomless hole that emmitted a foul odour. The conscious decision by this hotel's management to try to cover such a problem is indicative of the regard they have of their guests. * a shower in which one had to run around in to get wet. When turned on full, the shower barely raised a trickle and took a while to reach its luke-warm maximum temperature. * a breakfast that included fruit cordial instead of real juice, a dark liquid they called coffee which neither resembled nor tasted like the bean (we preferred the safety of tea after that), and croissants and muffins that were only as fresh as the removal of their plastic packaging (we later saw the same product in the supermarket down the road). We did not know whether the pool was any good; despite having checked in to stay at least 2 nights with a desire to stay longer, we could not stay here any longer than beyond the first night. When we went to check out in the morning the reception guy asked us why we were checking out early. We replied that there were a number of things we weren't happy with. He did not respond with any further questions and simply proceeded to process our payment for the one night. His attitude was representative of the apathetic and substandard approach this hotel has towards its clientele. Never again.
Good value for money

Just returned from a weeks holiday staying at the hotel tourist in sorrento. Having already read trip advisor reports from others who had used the hotel previously before booking, did not expect too much, but was pleasantly surprised overall with the hotel especially for under £500 per person for the week, half board in August. Hotel was clean and staff helpful and friendly. You only had to ask at reception for the air conditioning to be put on in your room and this was no problem. Room was a decent size with daily maid service and towels changed daily also. Food was basic, with a lack of choice but on the whole was quite good for the money paid for this holiday. Waiters again very helpful and definately worth a tip at the end of our week. Food was served hot and was not left standing around as in some hotels. Had to share table each day with other guests but we found this ok as we met others in the hotel. Good pool and staff once again at the back of the hotel-ok maybe not the best view but clean and well kept with a small snack bar serving food and drinks pool side. Main problem with hotel was that it was located on a busy road junction and the noise from it was continuous, even with our top floor room-had to keep windows closed due to traffic noise. However centrally located which was great for that evening stroll into town and for shops etc.-I guess you can,t have it all. Overall a decent family run type of small hotel at a decent price, and popular with Italians also- a nice mix of Italian and British holidaymakers making the holiday perhaps more authentic.
Basic, clean and friendly

I stayed at the hotel Tourist with my mum for a week. When we first got there we were a bit disappointed that it wasn't a bit more glamourous and our view was a wall and a generator. However once we got over that i can honestly say it was perfect for us. The location was excellent , a 5 minute walk to the main centre of sorrento and a short bus journey or ten minute walk to the port which takes you to the isle of capri or Ischia. We only used it as a base. The rooms were changed every day, the cleaners did a great job.The old chap on reception was very helpful and sweet . We were half board.Everybody moaned a lot about the food but i always had a clean plate but then i loved school dinners and love my food. Everybody sat together at dinner so it was good to catch up at the end of the day and pick up some tips of where's good to go.The head waiter was so lovely very switched on his sidekick was a little bit like manuel our table agreed. On the last night thay both had a sing song for us which everyone enjoyed, very funny. Overall if you want somewhere to just rest your head after exploring sorrentos many delights its brilliant. If you are looking for a beach or sitting by the pool holiday it's not for you. It was a quirky little place. I think thats what makes a holiday.
Hmm, not bad

I stayed at the hotel with 2 friends in august this year, it was in a very noisy location, ie road noise, but we soon got used to that. The room was adequate, very clean. The only problem was that they turned the air conditioning off when they felt like it! This was sorted by dialing 9 on the phone, and they would turn it back on! The food in the restaurant was strange. We ended up having breakfast out, and suffering the strange concoctions on an evening. The meat (whatever it was) was similar to cheap prossesed meat roasts from Jack Fultons, haha yeuck. The waiters really tried very hard and seemed proud of their offerings. But most meals ended up in the bin. The pool area was nice, but we were suprised to have to pay for sunbeds. Chairs were free. Food very good round pool. You got very good treatment if you spent a loy of money on drinks! (We did!) Probably would not choose to stay there again, but it was bearable.
Warning! Do NOT stay in this hotel on a school trip
from ginadim
Our school was really pleased when we stayed at this Hotel in April 2003. So much so, that they requested the travel company put us in the same hotel. Unfotunately during these two years, the standards have slipped considerably. Here are some of the highlights: > Rooms were cold, I had to use towels as extra bed linen > Staff were rude and unhlepful, (apart from Luigi) > Poor quality and variety of food. Particularly vegetarian option > Noise from the street was very loud > Website stated rooms included TV, Phone, Hairdryer. None of these were provided > Packed lunches consisted of a hard bread roll with dried up cheese and bottle of juice. No bottle opener was provided. Packed lunches were used to feed rats in Amalfi and dogs in Pompeii > Noise from other school parties continued until the early hours > Close proximity to police station caused constant siren noises > Towels and bed linen full of holes, very much like the dried up cheese > Lift broke with a few students in it > Bar not open to students > Door on bathroom did not lock > Wardrobe door broken > Bed broken > Almost everything broken Well, you get the general idea. Students are treated like cattle. Do not stay here on a school trip.
Great hotel

Fantastic Hotel. Really lovely staff, so friendly and helpful, especially Luigi the night manager and the 2 waiters. Most of the staff have been there for years, they are all happy and helpful. The hotel and swimming pool were spotlessly clean. I was in a single room which was more than adequate. A great place for anyone to stop at. I was travelling alone but soon made friends there. I will definitely go back.
Amazing!!!!

could not find a bad word to say about this Hotel. It was our honeymoon and even though it was cheap it was perfect. the hotel is clean, staff very friendly with good english. the pool out the back is lovely and if you ask for a orange juice the pool guy coraldo actaully picks all your oranges from the trees in the garden.he is one of the nicest guys so helpfull the other reviewers dont seem to think much of the food, but we thought it was lovely. 3 courses with gorgeous starters, lovely mains and a small but nice desert. location is perfect infact the whole place is perfect. we liked it so much that we are now looking to buy out there, and are currently planning our next trip out there to go and view some properties!
Cool pool guy

We were at the Tourist in June this year, all in all it was a good all round hotel, the food was adequate and the rooms were kept immaculately clean but the main thing to mention is the pool area, this was kept in pristine condition by a young man called Corraldo who was also in charge of the small poolside bar nothing was too much trouble for this youngster. The only downside to the hotel is the heavy traffic noise at the front end but as i said all in all a stay here is an enjoyable experience.
Friendly and well located hotel

Date: 07 - 14 October 2005 Reviewer: Trip Advisor Member, Wokingham, Berkshire Clean, comfortable and friendly hotel. All standard facilities provided for and in a good location, as in walking distance to the town of Sorrento and bus and train stations. A varied selection of buffet continental breakfast. A choice of three course waiter service evening meal but was basic. The food was generally disappointing, especially as Italy usually has such a good reputation for its fine cuisine and vegetarians also did not seem to be very well catered for. Night porter Luigi was friendly and helpful and ran the evening bar. Air conditioning was not an issue during October, due to the cooler evening temperatures. Due to the hotel's location on a very heavily congested traffic junction, noise was a disturbance and also a hazard trying to cross the road safely! Otherwise an economical (by Italian hotel standards) and well located for the town of Sorrento, exploring the Almafi coast and trips to Pompei, Naples and Capri.
A very welcoming hotel

We sent our parents for a surprise to the hotel tourist in sorrento. We had to find a very central hotel as mum has trouble walking far. They have just got back and have asked me to write a review on their behalf. It was a very clean hotel, their bed was actually changed 3 times in the week. The towels were changed daily. The staff were all wonderful and just could not do enough for you.All meals were served to you. They said the porter luigi was just such a lovely man.On the last evening there was a surprise dinner which was a 4 course meal. All in all they have had a beautiful holiday at the hotel tourist and have said that the memories will be with them a lifetime. It was only minutes away from all the shops and they managed to see the isle of capri which was mums dream come true.I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone at the hotel tourist for making mum and dads holiday a very pleasant one.

We have stayed at this hotel twice now and find it extremely friendly and welcoming. It is situated right at the end of a very busy street in the centre of Sorrento and can be quite noisy during rush hour traffic (which is most of the time). However, it does have a nice... more
