This is the very first time I have ever in my 40+ years written a review of a bad experience I have had at a hotel, but this one really required it.
The short recommendation is to stay away. This was the fifth hotel we stayed at in Eliat and for the money, we got taken.
We booked a 4 night stay this past weekend with my in-laws and my three year old son. Both rooms were filthy (not dirty but really gross). Some examples of what were bad were:
1. Burns on the floors
2. A huge 1 FT squared stain on the carpet.
3. The bedspread was ripped and burnt repeatedly with cigarettes
4. The lamps (both of them) had "strange" stains on them. I don’t know how they got there or want to guess at what they were.
5. Both bathrooms had a strange "skunky" odour in them
We contacted the front desk they said they would send someone up. They tried to rectify what they could but obviously they could not fix the floors or the odour in the bathrooms.
The manager on call said they were fully booked and that the next day they would show us a different set of rooms. Needless to say the next day the rooms they showed us were as bad as the ones we were staying in. We rejected their offer to switch rooms.
Bad rooms were the short of it. The foodservice was bad as well. They served water pitchers on every table we served ourselves out of them the first night to find particulate food matter floating in all our glasses.
I don’t mean crumbs here, I mean unclean to the core. We contact the service staff who replaced the pitcher and the glasses. We also saw after lifting the pitcher that the table was still dirty from the previous patrons who had occupied it. The sad part was it was not an isolated incident.
The same thing happened the next night at dinner. Particulate matter in the pitches and dirty tables.
We spoke to the customer service manager who wanted to make things "right" the next day, but at this time we were all living with a bad taste (literally) in our mouths and decided to cut the vacation short.
All she was empowered to do was to refund the money we had already paid for that night (in Israel you pay in advance for your entire stay; they credit you back for unused nights). We ran not walked from the hotel taking what we could get.
I have travelled all around the world and stayed in poor and great hotels and resorts. Stay clear of the Magic Palace, there was nothing magical about our stay. For a rated 4 star hotel we received sub 2 star service and support from the staff.
As I told the management, it was as if the line staff could not care less about making our stay a pleasant one.
I treated them with the utmost respect I wish they had done the same to my family.
