Fantastic budget holiday

Just got back from 1 week stay at the Tonga, two adults, all inclusive. Having read some of the reviews, we were a bit concerned, but had a fantastic time. The transfer from the airport to the Tonga took approx 1 hour 45 mins, and the Tonga is the last stop, but we were sat on a comfortable air conditioned coach with beautiful views of Majorca, better than the views on the M25, isnt it? We arrived at the Tonga, and what seemed like the quickest check in ever, made our way to our room on the 5th floor. The room was clean, but basic. No hairdryer, TV remote, or fridge, all these come at extra cost. Towels and bedding was changed daily, leave your towels on the floor if you want fresh ones. Great view of the pool. The pool is fine, plenty of sunbeds. There are four lifts, there did seem to be a lot of people queining, but we just walked the stairs, so if you have small kids or don't like walking, just request a room on the lower floors. You are allowed two drinks per person, we never had to queue more than a couple of minutes for a drink, the bar staff are brilliant, very friendly and efficient. My only complaint about the drinks is the plastic cups are thrown in the bin, I was surprised there is no recylcling faclities, what a waste!! Food-I'm a real foodie so its hard for me not to be overly critical. The food was a bit of a mixed bag, there was a lot of processed food, burgers, deep fried things in 'glow in the dark' breadcrumbs, battery chicken. But on the other hand, there was a lot of salad, home made soup, beef stew, etc. I found it a bit wierd, oh and if you're a vegetarian, then forget it, you'll be eating 'boiled to death' cold pasta and packet tomato sauce all week, there was no other vegetarian food, apart from chips, rice, and salad. The deserts i can only describe as 'nuclear', all packet and brought in, i snuck a peek at the list of ingredients for the 'ice-cream' it read like a science experiment. I found it a bit uncomfortable watching children eating 'chicken' croquettes and chips each day for their lunch. The snack bar is more of the same, deep fried processed food. But, hey, i did warn that im a foodie, so i suppose that 1 week off the wagon doesn't count, right??. The entertainment was great, i was a bit sceptical at first, but i loved it. something for everyone, teens, kids, and adults, loved the adult stuff, though some parents said it was a bit inappropriate for younger kids. The bar can get a bit busy at night, but we managed to find a seat eventually. All the staff at the hotel were friendly. the resort of Can Picafort was a bit quiet for me, but theres your usual array of bars, restaurants and shops. The beach is a five minute walk down the road, it was clean, no litter, plenty of sunbeds. overall i would probably visit the Tonga again, for the price you can''t go wrong. i spent 40 euros all week!!

  • Advice: request a lower floor to avoid the queues at the lifts.

Just back from Club Tonga,What can i say?Food terrible, gave it 2 days and we decided to eat out.Veg all cold, very little variation in the main menu.If you were a vegetarian or a salad lover you were ok.You could only get tea, coffee with your breakfast.....If you wanted it with lunch or dinner you had to go to the pool bar and it was served in a polystyrene cup.Plastic cups for your drinks, half pint at a time, queues constant day and night, drink selection very poor.In any other all inclusive hotel ive been in,if you did not like the local drinks you could purchase normal drinks...not this place. On the plus side the entertainment was second to none for kids, but nothing really for adults, well you cant have adult entertainment, when most of the kids are still running about at midnight. Most of the staff very pleasant, rooms were kept spotless, cleaned every day.Outside the hotel are a few good pubs with reasonably priced food, namely Neil and Annes,Williams and the Oasis bar.the beach was very good and clean,Overall we would go back to the resort but not to the Hotel Tonga 4 out of 10

Just had a 10 night stay on all inclusive and had a great holiday. My wife, 2 friends and their kids and 5 grandkids went in may and had a great time so went on recomendation and wasnt dissapointed.Their were only 2 small downers,1. the transfer time, about 90 minutes,2.The queues at the bar at peak periods(although it doesnt take long to get through, and at peak periods the lift queues but you dont have to wait that long. The food was excellant, plenty of choices, always found a table.nice restaurant, great staff, always had a smile on their faces.Dinner was from 1800 hrs until 2100hrs so plenty of time choices. The entertainment staff were great and put on some good evening shows and were vere very busy doing kids club and adult games, air rifle /archery/boulles/volleyball/football and fun games always with a smile. The bar staff were kept really busy but they gave really good service,The hotel has 2 very nice pools with a great kiddies pool and there is ample room for everyone. It is a pleasant 10minute stroll to the beach which is very nice with a nice prom area with all the usual/ bars/ shops/restaurants.A great place for a holiday, great for families!

Fantastic Holiday!
9 / 10
Sep 2011, Hols2011

Just arrived home from a weeks brilliant holiday at club tonga! We booked this hotel from previous good reviews and I have to say ignore any bad ones you read! Club Tonga seems to be at the end of the transfer which took us around 2 hours, however we enjoyed seeing all the views and therefore didnt seem that long. Do not let this transfer time put you off!
We were on floor 5 out of 14 with a pool view and just above the entertainment area which was just the right height to have a fantastic view of the sea. Lifts can get very busy at meal times so its easier to walk, however on the odd occasion where we did wait for a lift it did not take too long.
Room was cleaned and tidied everyday only downside of the room was not many plug sockets we had only 2 which were not near a mirror so for the girls was hard to straighten and dry hair.
Food was lovely, did not have a bad meal the whole time we were there. I imagine if you were a fussy eater it may be hard to pick what to eat however they always had plenty of salad, veg, pasta and chips.
The pool areas were always clean and tidy. Plenty of sun beds around the pool and the garden areas around, we never had to get up early to 'reserve' a sunbed as there were always plenty left over.
The entertainment team are absolutely fantastic! Always had acvitivies going on during the day for everyone to get involved with. One of our party went on the mountain bike ride that the entertainers do and would recommend it to anyone that goes. Evening shows were really good too.
The beach is only a short 5-10 minute walk down a straight road, never seemed too long to walk there. The beach was lovely with plenty of bars along the seafront.
All in all an absolutely lovely place with plenty of activites. Looking to book for next year already!!

Myself and my 5yr old son just came back from a week at this hotel would definalty recommend a holiday here. Very clean, friendly staff, good choice of food and freshly made. Mini club was great for my son to make new friends and the entertainment staff are fantastic, very hard working and friendly. The evening shows are well worth going to watch as the staff put on a different show every night and get the audience involved. Don't let the transferre time of 2hrs from the airport put you off going as you'll be missing out on a great holiday. We will definatley go back for another hoiday to this hotel.

We have recently returned from the Hotel Tonga, overall it was a nice hotel. We found the food to be nice although same everyday got a bit much. The pool was always packed out and you had to be out with your towel by 7am to stand a chance of getting a sunbed bit of a pain so we spent most days at the beach. Entertainment below average I would say, kids disco only on for 30mins at 8.30pm. Only able to get 2 drinks at a time which was a bit fustrating when travelling with a young family. Most of the staff were friendly and very clean. We wouldnt stay here again but I suppose for it being in the school holidays and for £2000 for 4 people for 10 nights wasnt too bad. Can Picafort Palace next door is lovely!!

Club tonga was easily the best hotel i've ever stayed in! It's fun for all the family!
the food was delicious, the rooms were very very clean, the outside area was lovely! the best part of the holiday was the entertainment team, they we're absolutely amazing, day in day out! and they were very welcoming too! its a lovely place for children to go, and the pools we're a perfect size... and heat! the weather was lovely too.
The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the beach, which is very nice and its close to laods of shops not forgetting the 2 just outside the hotel
all in all i thought this hotel was amazing and i would love to go again, infact i'm going to look at booking now!

Fantastic - ignore the negative reviews

Single mum with 2 kids 16 and 11 years old, very apprehensive about going after reading the negative reviews but loved it.
Transfer from airport took 2 1/2 hours (not the hotels fault)
Checking in at the hotel - less than 2 minutes and receptionist was very friendly and informative.
Room - On 9th floor, very clean and spacious with 3 single beds, wardrobe and dressing table, large bathroom and balcony. Room was cleaned every day and we were given fresh towels daily, bedding changed weekly.
Lifts - 4 of them were a bit slow but never waited long for them and usually walked down.
Food - was lovely and fresh and plenty of it, my youngest is a bit fussy but she always ate something. During the day we never had lunch in the restuarant as the food at the snack bar was nice, they served toasties, hotdogs, burgers, chips and salad. We always went in for evening meal at 6.30pm (restaurant just opened) it was quiet at this time, can imagine it would get a bit hectic but didnt experience it.
Bar - only 2 drinks in plastic cups, dont know what everyone moans about, the measures were good and didnt stand in a queue for any longer than 2 minutes (less time than a queue at club at home at the weekend), bar staff work hard and can be a bit glum looking but if you are nice to them they are nice to you (some ignorant people at the hotel). I got my band changed so i could get 3 drinks, which saved me going to the bar with one of the kids, I had no problems changing it and larger groups done the same.
Animation team - were fab and worked soooo hard, kids club from 10am til 12 noon and then 3pm til 5pm, my daughter loved it, she done t-shirt painting, pony trekking, games, swimming, face painting to name a few things, also during the day the animation team organised things for the adults, ie pistol shooting, archery etc and always got you involved. At night the entertainment started at 8.30pm with the kids mini disco, 9.30pm for bingo then 10pm for the nightly show.
People go down and put towels on the sunbeds and usually about 8.30am you wont get one round the pool but there are plenty on the grassed areas surrounding the pool, the pool area is cleaned every day and can get slippy with kids jumping in and out the water.
The beach is a 10 minute slow walk, leave the hotel to the main road turn right, cross main road at the crossing and first left and walk straight down the hill, lots of shops, pubs and restaurants on the beach front.
If you are going out for the day ask the reception for a picnic the day before, we got 6 packs of sandwiches, fruit and cakes for the 3 of us, it was lovely.
Large supermaket 5 minutes from the hotel, again go to main road and turn right and walk along past the petrol station and the supermarket is just past it.
Overall we had a fantastic time, definately go back and looking to book up for next year already.
Dont let the negative reviews put you off.

It was OK but wouldn't go back

Just back from 1 week at the Club Tonga and would probobly reccomend this hotel for couples with young children. Food was ok some nights better than others. My main complaint of this hotel was the lifts the hotel had 14 floors and only 4 small lifts. We were on the 10th floor and had to quite often wait quite a long time for the lifts which were always full, sometimes we would give up and walk down the stairs. The other thing which really annoyed me was no umbrellas for the sunbeds at the pool which I have never experienced before at a hotel abroad. If you wanted a sunbed you had to get up VERY early as there was towels on all the beds at about 7:30. The one good thing was the entertainment staff who were excellent.

  • Advice: The beach is worth a visit, its beautiful.

im just home from a week in club tonga with my 9 year old son, must say 1st that it is at least 2 hours from the airport to the hotel which i didnt kno about an was way 2 long for me never mind my son,the hotel was very clean an my room was cleaned every day, cannot fault the food ther was plenty of choice and it was good.the staff at reception would need to be a bit more friendly found them very cheeky at times, one point that really got to me was they decided to go in 2 our room when we wer at the pool an paint some of our walls the smell afterward was terrible for the next few days, which i didnt think they should of done an when we reported it we wer made feel we wer being fussy.there is no air condidton in the rooms just a ceiling fan so we had 2 sleep with the patio doors open, but must say can picafort is a stunning place an would say to go ther but def not to club tonga hotel
