The Good The Bad and The Ugly
We have just returned from a 2 week stay at this hotel. We went with first choice who rate the hotel 4 Stars. This is not a 4 star hotel by any means, it is currently about 2.5 stars and deteriorating rapidly. The swimming pool water was a cloudy green on most days, there are tiles hanging off everywhere and a nasty white mastic substance under the water that comes off onto your skin and swimming costume. The lights are hanging off and my wife and i both got mild electric shocks whilst swimming - not funny. We complained and the lights for half the pool remained off for the rest of our trip. The food - mostly yeuch. Aimed at Germans. Cold scrambled and fried eggs where the only identifiable things on offer at breakfast. Needless to say we had diaorreah every day. The Drinks - double yeuch - Artificially flavoured cocktails including the odd blended wasp or bee, no fresh juices, powdered milk, weak flat beer. Awful Cheap Italian wine the red and the white both chilled and tasting like Sarsons Vinegar. The bars are swarming with wasps and bees everyday and I had the pleasure of being stung on the stomach much to the amusement of the barstaff who would scoop up the ice from the freezer with their bare hands into your drinks, and would wash the glasses using the tap water we were told by the reps to avoid like the plague. Our room was fine - apart from the constant rattle of the airconditioning and the nightly invasion of mosquitos that bit you to shreds. Just to top things off - on the last day we were shown to an airconditioned courtesy room, and our toddler was playing in the corner, we went to see what he was up to and to our horror behind the curtain in the corner was a 20 foot drop straight down onto concrete ! I Dread to think what would have happened if he had been left much longer. All in all if you want to go somewhere remote, with choppy sea, crap food, terrible drink, enjoy coming home looking like a spotted hyena, and scratching like you have fleas, with lots and lots of rude germans into the bargain then go here. If not - stay away you will have more fun at Butlins.
Do not worry! It is great!!!
We have just returned from the LTI Costa Caribe hotel in Margarita where we had a great time for two weeks! Before we went we read the reviews and were quite worried as there were many mixed reviews on the place. Some people we met there even said they were dreading it, but just before we departed we read a review from someone and it put our mind at rest. I hope this can do the same, and also answer any queries anyone has. The hotel is reasonably big, not too big and never crowded. There are a variety of different nationalities at the hotel and I was surprised at how many Venezuelans there were, but these people are some of the friendliest I have met, and my daughter and son (15 and 13) made friends with these people, who mostly spoke perfect English! There were many Germans who were just as friendly and English too. You will probably find the English people you talk to will be on your flight home as there is one to Manchester and one to London if you are with the package deal. The pool is very large ut quite shallow. I liked this but if you are a keen swimmer, you will not be able to. The pool is always warm because of the temperature, which reached almost 40 degrees everyday! There was a swim up bar but the service was much better inside. Make sure you have a pinocolada - they are great! The lobby bar is good for the evenings and the pool bar if you like the quieter atmosphere at night. The staff were great, the reps from First Choice Milton and Carlos were brilliant and Milton is hopefully staying with us in the near future. They helped us with any problems and often sat with us at dinner. We went on two trips arranged by the reps; the one day trip to Canaima and a trip around Coche Island on the North Star. These were both great trips and Canaima is definately not to be missed, but make sure you are reasonably fit as it requires a bit of walking. I will not ruin the trip for you though! The animacion team around the pool were great and I must in particular mention Rey, Oswaldo and Jose-Luis who entertained my children throughout. They made everyone take part in activities including pool volleyball, darts, table tennis competitions, sunset walks etc. These guys were what made the holiday for my children. In the evenings there were two discos, one under 18 and one under 18 as they are beginning to get strict on the teenagers going into the over 18s one. Although my daughter found that the under 18s was better anyway for her and her friends as the music was more to their style and found that many over 18s joined them in there! The three restaurants, the buffet, Italian and Mexican were very good and the Italian was particularly nice. The buffet had a wide range of foods on offer and these were very nice. If you have a fussy child there was plain pasta and tomato sauce almost every night. In the mexican restaurant they served burger and chips everyday until 5. Some people did get ill butI do not think this was because the food was bad, I think it is because we are not used to the food they eat there. We had a few immodium tablets and were fine. The upset stomachs did not last for more than 24hours. The rooms were reasonably sized, we were in a standard room which consisted of two single beds put together to form a double bed, a dresser, cupboards and a tv, a small bathroom with a shower, toilet and sink. The beach was beautiful and the water was rough but not too rough to swim. My children went kyaking and snorkelling with their friends and I was not worried as they were good swimmers. Make sure you see a sunset - they are beautiful! All in all we had a great holiday, and my children would say the best they had been on, as we have been travelling alot I would not say the best but it was great and would recomend it. DO NOT WORRY!!!
worst hotel ever
my husband and i have just returned from a fortnights holiday at this hotel and for the first time in my life i am glad to be home. we paid extra for the so called vip room. it was no bigger than other rooms. we too had problems with toilet flushing and waited one night for two hours for clean towels. the pool was unclean. the choice of food is crap. on the second day i had chronic stomach pains and spent the night on the loo. i had stomach cramps and loose stools for the entire holiday. the a la carte restaurants seemed slightly better but i was off my food anyway and it was difficult to get in them. you have to be prepared to book in advance. the buffet food was always cold and to get any chance of a table outside you have to be there early. the beach is ok but sea very choppy and in my opinion unsuitable for children. the staff are not particularly friendly. the hotel has been given a four star but we would rate it at a two or three. it might be suited to people looking for very basic accomodation. we booked through first choice and feel they have over rated this hotel. it is also very isolated. we went on lots of trips which were excellent.it is a long way from most major attractions. it was a pity i had to dose myself up with imodium before leavinthe hotel everyday to do sightseeing. the swim up bar is always crowded and its hard to get a drink as there only seemed to be one bar man on and they have to serve the upstairs bar as well. my husband loves his cocktails and was sorely disappointed in the lack of variety. there was a very unpleasent smell arond the hotel grounds which was made worse by the heat. we heard some good reports about the dunes hotel from people we met on trips. we are not fussy people but we were not impressed by this hotel. we have stayed at other all inclusives befoer and have always had wonderful holidays. we have stayed in other third world resorts but have always found standards to be high and staff wonderful. we would urge people to read reviews carefully. we would never consider staying at this hotel again. we spent a night in the jungle and found the beds to be better than those at the hotel. also the food at the jungle camp was the only meal i kept down.
Okay but some problems.
We have just returned after a two week holiday at the LTI Costa Caribe Beach Hotel. Our stay was at the end of July and first week in August 2005. Accomodation We had two rooms that both contained a lounge area. The rooms are house keeped each day to a good standard. The decoration is good but not up to european standards. All rooms have air conditioning via a wall mounted box. The air conditioning is very noisy and rattly. We could only leave it on at night because our rooms had two units, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom, we only left the lounge one running as the bedroom one would have kept us awake at night. Food The resort has three resturants. Two of the resturants require you to reserve a week in advance and the other one is a buffet type. Only one is air conditioned. The quality of the food was good and did not really seem to differ between resturants. We were advised not to drink the water which we all obeyed accept one of our children. Dispite this, four out the five in our party had stomach upsets. I myself had two quite bad nights and days with the bug. As a group we only ate out once but this was after the illnesses which were in the first week of our stay. One of our party has returned with worms but we are not sure if this was as a result of our off site meal. Pool Area The pool area is clean and does have enough sun beds if you get up early enough. The resort did appear to be a little crowded but this was matched by silent periods depending upon the arrival and departure of nationalites. Beach The beach area is good with enough sunbeds, again if you get up early enough. The palm trees provide good shade and the sand is good. However the sea is very rough and can be dangerous. Our nine year old got pulled under and rolled by the waves, even though she was only in water up to her waist. Entertainment. This was good, and contained the usual dancing and comedy. There was a large aray of daytime activities but we did not take part in these. Excersions Some of the excersions were superb. We took the land cruiser trip which was unbeleivable and great value for money. We also heard that the off island trips were even better. The reps were very freindly and were willing to advise and help. Off site. We did take a trip to the capital, Porlamar. The trip to the large shopping centre, Sunbill, was a bit of a let down as the majority of the goods appeared to be more expensive than the UK. Conclusion The holiday was ideal if you wanted a relaxing fortnight. It was spoiled by the tummy bugs. The weather was good.
A wonderful honeymoon
I do not have any pictures available at the moment and I really don't want to write a review for the contest. My husband and I married December 2003 and stayed at the LTI Costa Caribe Hotel in Margarita for a week. I absolutely did not relish the idea of going there even though I did not know what to expect but I suspected I would hate it. However, the service surpassed anything I could have expected. Besides the fantastic service we received, (especially from the young German lady at the front desk whose name now eludes me) the ambiance was breathtaking, the food delightful and the restaurants were so wonderful. The best part was the cost. This was a vacation that didn't leave you worried about the state of your finances afterwards. We will be staying there again and again and again and recommending this place to everyone we know who is looking for an ideal vacation spot. We live in the republic of Trinidad and Tobago and decided to spend our 1st anniversary in a reputable hotel in Tobago. We missed LTI Costa Caribe because (being locals) we were dished out some scant courtesy, poor service, bad food and rediculous bills. (If you are a tourist you will never experience this kind of thing so no fear). LTI Costa Caribe and its competent, professional and courteous staff speak volumes for the island and moreso for the value the hotel holds for its guests regardless of whether they are foreign or local. Thank you so much LTI Costa Caribe for making our honeymoon something we will never forget.
Fantastic holiday
Before going on this holiday I had read some of the really awful reviews posted and was almost dreading arrival. I couldn't have been more wrong. We have just returned from two fantastic weeks of total sunshine (only one short shower), complete relaxation and excellent amenities. We are a family of five, three 'children' aged 18,15 and 13. There was something for all of us. Beach is beautiful, turn right out of gate and sunbeds at the far end - great sea breeze. There is plenty of entertainment by the pool if that's your thing. Bars and food are brilliant. Rooms kept clean and we even found a towel crafted into a swan one afternoon on our return from the beach! We did the 'swim with dolphins' trip which I have to admit being in two minds about. I wanted to do it but morally didn't feel comfortable with it. However, we all did it and it was absolutely amazing. I would thoroughly recommend it. We also did the day fishing trip. This was good but we did something similar in Tobago last year and unfortunately it didn't quite live up to those standards. We did catch a metre long King mackerel though! If you're looking for watersports, i.e. windsurfing I think the brochure was misleading. Unless you're almost a professional 'windsurfer' you won't be able to windsurf at the hotel because of the strong current and rocks. However there is a beach at El Jacque (about a 30 minute cab ride which costs around £10 each way) which is a surfers' paradise, every kind of watersport and not expensive to hire either. Well worth a visit. The 'kids' thought the nightclub was great. The shows each evening were entertaining, some better than others; dancers were brilliant - loads of costume changes during the shows and very well choreographed. All in all a fantastic holiday and I would have no doubt in recommending it.
Brilliant Holiday
We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Lti Costa Caribe in Margarita, and we loved it. Food - We felt that there was plenty of choice with the Buffet which offered different foods each evening, and had theme nights. The italian restaurant wasnt really Italian, but the food was agin good. The mexican food was very good. Only down side was that you couldnt eat after 10.30pm. Pool - The pool was very big and was big enough not to be over crowded. People in the hotel did moan about the cleanliness of it at the end of the day. But what can you expect when you have 300 people swimming, sweating and full of sun cream! The maintenance men cleaned the pool all day but were on a loosing battle! Rooms - We were in block 3100 and the rooms were very comfortable, clean and our maid left us swans made out of bedding, fresh towels every day. We didnt have any creepy crawlies in our room. Hairdryers, Air conditioning (Although a little noisy) and fridge all in full working order. Staff - All staff were very friendly and helpful. They couldnt do enough for you! Tours - Excellent day trip to Canaima Park. Fantastic Experience. Jeep Safari also very good. First Choice were excellent from the minute we arrived at the airport and all through our holiday. We had a rep on hand 24 hours a day in our hotel. All in all we found the LTI to be of good value for money and we enjoyed our holiday. But remember LTI is a German company and therefore the hotel is about 2/3rds German!
Please dont let the reviews ruin the build up to your holiday
My husband, 2 teenage daughters and myself have just returned from 2 weeks at the Costa Carribe. After reading some of the reviews I even considered paying the extra money and changing the holiday – boy am I glad I didn’t. The rooms were spacious – with a good size bathroom – nice powerful shower – and may I add a shower curtain! A vanity unit and a very powerful hairdryer. We had clean towels – and hand towels every day. One day we had no towels left in our room – we wondered up to reception and told them – the maid arrived at our door a minute after us with the towels and apologising profusely. Daytime entertainment was very good and the evening entertainment was fantastic. The animation team work very hard all day and into the night – they even went to the nighttime disco with the teenage kids and danced with them. How anyone at all could say they were bad is beyond comprehension. Beach was lovely – although the sea was rough it was nice to plodge in – we walked along the beach at 6am – lunchtime and even very late one evening – there were definitely no bandits – guns or knives!! Security is paramount here – our girls went to the evening disco until 2am (they are 14 & 17) and we were happy that security were walking them safely back to their rooms. There was a good mixture of visitors, German, American, British, Venezuelan, Swiss etc… at no time did we ever feel that the hotel was catering towards any particular nationality. The hotel had a good mixture of age groups, our girls ended up in a group of kids ranging from 13 – 17 and the older kids looked out for the younger ones. There were quite a few toddlers there too. The animation team took time with all of the children regardless of their ages. The hotel was full, and there were always sun loungers available. We always managed to get 2 in the sun and 2 in the shade – regardless of the time we arrived at the pool. The tables in the main dining area are 6-seated round tables. The tables are very big – we only had to share once – and we couldn’t hear the other couples’ conversation at all. However, if you do want a private table for 2 – there are tables set up in the courtyard – and as it is very warm outside it was very pleasant sitting out. The staff is all very friendly and can’t do enough for you – everyone smiles and wishes you good morning/evening or just basically saying hello to you. Check in was very efficient – we were given our registration cards on the bus on the way to the hotel – and we had them all filled in – when we arrived at the hotel we were greeted with the animation team dressed in Caribbean costume and doing their dance for us – along with waiters serving us fruit punch as we collected our luggage. We never once had ants, cockroaches or anything else with more legs or wings than me. Food was wonderful – cooked fresh – comments I have read about food being left uncovered – can I just say at this point it was the guests leaving the food uncovered – the staff were constantly putting lids on things and the guests were helping themselves and walking away. Non of us suffered ‘deli belly’ and I only spoke to one person during the whole of our stay who had suffered – they had gone into Juan Griego for a meal and had shellfish!! We had one power cut which lasted 5 minutes. Someone here complained of no clocks in the rooms – on holiday who cares what the time is? And as for only 2 TV channels – again do you really go on holiday to watch TV?? The pool was brilliant – from 5.30am the staff are cleaning the pool out – this process goes on until 7pm. With one young lad going around with a ‘toothbrush’ type implement cleaning the tiles on the side of the pool!! The staff – including the hotel manager often ate in the dinning room with the guests – and they always said hello and asked if everything was ok. If you are visiting this place for the first time – please do not make the mistakes I made (along with every other guest staying there) and take to heart the reviews. Go and find out for yourself – I will be happy to answer any questions anyone may have. Go and enjoy yourself – it really is a lovely place – with happy wonderful staff.
excellent holiday
After reading some of the reviews about this place I was a bit wary of what to expect but dont bee alarmed this is one of the best places you could imagine for your holiday. The rooms are a bit basic but if your spending a lot of time in your room you shouldnt be there in the first place. The food is great with plenty of choice from hot to cold foods and there is chefs cooking steak, pork, or chicken every night in the dining areas and you can watch them cooking them and get the chefs to cook it to your own requirments. The pool is very big and first class, shallow bits for you to cool off and deeper bits if you want a swim. The staff and animacion team are first class ,check out Elvis at the pool bar hes a character and every bar has someone friendly at it willing to do anything for you. The beach is also great but the sea is sometimes a bit rough with the wind but not as bad as been made out,go to the left of the beach from the hotel and watch the pelicans. All in all a superb holiday and i wouldnt hesitate to go back
not as bad as people make out
i do not know what people are expecting, i was there in july with my family 3 adults & 2 children. we met a lot of people at the hotel. there was 2 weddings when we were there both scottish. if we had a problem it was fixed quickly, the staff were very friendly, the daytime entertainment for the kids was great if you wanted to join the adult entertainment it was good as well. the disco was good at night. the pool is great. overall we had a great holiday, a holiday is what you make of it if you want to find faults there will always be there. we would go back again. oh bye the way the rooms were good enough and big enough for all of us & every where was spotless.
