Loved The Belisaire
from arti_8
We have just returned form the Belisaire in Tunisia and I have just re-booked for next July.We had a great time in the hotel and the staff are very welcoming and helpful.Children are very welcome in the hotel and the star friends work around the clock to provide a wide range of activities for all ages. Our children aged 10 and 12 were never bored. The food was wonderful and varied.I would recommend the all inclusive package as being great value for money.Great variety for breakfast, lunch outside or inside, pancakes, pizza and fresh fruit from 4-6 and then a wide variety of food for evening meals. A few niggles...toilet seats at pool all cracked..left note for hotel regarding this. Also, the constant sales chat in the hotel foyer when you first arrive can be annoying...there are tourist reps from tunisia trying to sell tours etc but after a couple of days they do stop asking. Also, there are 3 shops in the hotel...nothing is a fixed price so you have to haggle for suntan cream, maps etc. Also, there are no price lists so you don't know if you are being overcharged. The Tunisia experience was wonderful and the hotel and the hotel staff created this experience for us.At the airport on our return to Scotland we heard many people complaining about their holiday..none had been in an Iberostar hotel. The standards at Iberostar hotels are always good and I would have no hesitation in booking with any I berostar hotel in Tunisia.I was wary of visiting Tunisia but we will return next year.A word of warning..don't hire a car.We did but it is v dangerous.Taxis are available all the time aand are v cheap.
not to recomend

The hotel is nice, but the pool only accessible till 7pm which is a joke when it is warm all night. the pool bar is not being used and the service is mostly cold and unprofessional. The alcohol served is of poor quality and if you wish to drink a brand name, you are requested to pay. The front desk was not able to give sufficient enough information on local traditional restaurants. The walk to the beach takes about 4 minutes on a paved street. We advise not to take advantage of the beach bar. overall great vacation due to the people we went with but very disappointing concerning the professionalism of the service! I would never go back to the same hotel!
A nice place to be

This is a typical Hammamet 4-star hotel, but a bit better. The garden is very good, and the location of the hotel makes it a calmer place to be than others in the area. Food is quite good actually, and sufficiently diverse even for someone like me. Service is good, at times reception desk seems like a battlefield, but that's due more to the tourists. Very slight remarks - minibar is not loaded, you have to ask for it (a general minus); ice machines in the corridors didn't work, and I had to improvise to get my good-night drink. The portion of the beach allocated to the hotel is probably the nicest in all Hammamet. Strangely enough many guests stayed at the outdoor pools. As a conclusion a good place to go and have a rest.
brill holiday and great value

we hae just got back from Tunisia and were pleasantly surprised. We did not know what to expect when we went but really loved it. we went all inclusive which we would recommend for the difference you pay when booking. English is the least spoken language there as it has been mostly German and French people going to Tunisia but the staff were brilliant they were all so friendly and went out of there way for you. i would recommend tipping from the start remember the average wage in Tunisia is £5 a day for a 12 hr shift they rely on tips and you can tell the really apprciate it. we tipped the waiters and bar staff 3-5 dinars per day which is about £1- £2. there is nothing to really buy there and there are trips offered we never went on one but it means the world to the staff and the service you receive is fantastic because they know you appreciate them. The food is good we went to the buffet every nite because we were surpised to find it so varied and easy to use. The entertainment was good the animation people put alot of effort into putting on something different to keep you entertained. Everyone got on brilliant considering all the guests spoke different languages. This holiday is very hotel based in Yasmine Hammamet but is great for Families, couples of all ages and groups of friends. The bars are open till 1 am so young people wanting discos etc till the very early would be better with Hammamet as it is a bigger resort. The hotel is lovely and clean but it is the staff that make this holiday. It cost us £1400 for 2 all inclusive and we spent very little over and above and it is nly 3 hrs away, I feel you cannot go wrong. We went to the Carribean last year all inclusive and spent 3 times that.Do not get me wrong it was a wonderful holiday but it was 10 hrs away and alot more to get there. Please consider Tunisia we will defintely be back and would pick this hotel again

Super Hotel

Having read some of the other reviews I was worried about taking my 3 young boys to this hotel. However, my fears were soon wiped away on arrival at the hotel. The staff couldn't do enough for us. The waiters bought us drinks to the pool when we hadn't even asked for them. Our room was large and clean compared to many hotels we have stayed at in the past. we had our own patio which looked out onto the smaller of the pools. Meant we could nip back easily any time we wanted to. The Animation boys were outstanding with my kids and the other children who they'd made friends with. The one and only gripe with this hotel is that if your hotel towels are stolen you lose your deposit. We were in the pool and didn;t notice someone taking 2 of our towels. £20 lost . We'll def be going back.
Better than expected for the price

We booked a couple of weeks before going on the Thomas Cook website. 4* All Inclusive for one week just over £300 each. Hotel was quite nice, 4* is about the right rating, for North African hotels. The hotel was fine and had everything we needed, was less than a 5 min walk to beautiful beach and the staff were pretty friendly (unlike in other hotels we visited). The majority of visitors at the hotel are German and the food mostly caters for them but is still OK to a British pallet. Also sun loungers are hard to come by as they are reserved from very early in the morning! All inclusive meant a buffet in the same restaurant each night which might have got a little samey if not for the “Dine Around” program. This includes the other Iberostar restaurants in Hammamet and you simply need to book 24 hours in advance at reception – a great way to get out and try some different food for free. There is a Chinese, Italian, Mexican and Oriental (which is actually African food) I would highly recommend doing this as very few people take advantage and it is included. Drinks are VERY strong and all inclusive, did not have a problem with being limited to a certain amount of cocktails per night, however if this were a problem there are two other bars to move on to! Our Thomas Cook rep was great, the minute we mentioned that the music was keeping us awake (which could be very loud at night if staying on the pool side) she got us moved to another area and upgraded to suite. Staff were very friendly but as the clientele is largely German, a lot of the waiters do not have much English knowledge. I think this has led to Brits thinking they are being ignored, whereas they were very helpful if spoken to in French. The Medina is also worth a trip but if you are not in the mood to haggle then the salesmen are best ignored. Once you engage in conversation with them you are trapped, but otherwise it is pretty manageable and you are only really hassled in the Medina and on the beach (as opposed to when you are on the streets or in the hotel). The marina at Yasime Hammamet was a great draw for my husband and I as the website says there are shops, restaurants an boats. Be warned this is still under construction and there is very little there. Overall I would recommend this hotel for a cheap getaway off season. It does not meet the standards of 4* Carribean hotels, but this is Tunisia and you would not get the same holiday for the same price in the Carribean.
Brits ignored in Tunisia
from northtosouth
Having been to Egypt a couple of times and loving the country and its people we decided to visit Tunisia... well here goes .. The hotel is lovely, clean and tidy, an excellent maid service, food good but like most Arabic hotels sometimes a bit cold. Bars good, although the pool bar was not open with no excuse given as to why not? cocktails on all inclusive menu but we were restricted to two each per night, my suggesion is that if someone in your party is not drinking cocktails drink thier allowance by swapping drinks when ordering, errr chapts you will not be given a pint pot for your beer if you are all inclusive! but of course if you were not british you would get one, see comments below, make sure you go to the restruant behind the pool cos they serve great pancakes after 3ish! Pools three alltogether, one of which is excellent for non swimmers and very young children as it is very shallow for at least 20feet and then it gradually drops to a depth four/feet approx... but very cold, dont miss the large pool round the back of the hotel, its usually quiet, guests were mainly french and german with very few brits there, and that is where the problem lies, there is an underlying resentment from the staff to anyone english, if anything went wrong the brits got the blame, if they know you are english you will be treated as second hand citiznes and be ignored or served last at the bar, this of course is improved if you are willing to tip at the table or bar! The hotel gardens are a delight! very green lots of flowers and plants, lovely. The surrounding countryside is also very green but be prepared to see poverty, the fun buggys are great fun if you are a fit and active person, however... the err speedo was a plastic stick on! Shops in the hotel are to be avoided! at all costs! we are used to haggling but these guys were out for blood and in the Medina along the road is also, although beauful to look at had some very and i mean VERY aggresive sales tactics. our advise? go to the shops that have fixed prices or get gifts at the airport on the way home, we saw plates at about 20% cheaper than in the hotel. DONT be conned into being asked to go for a so called gift at Fozzy Bears who sells leather goods in the hotel, its a sales pitch and his gift is usually worth pennys! but... i did buy a pair of sandals off him for about 14 pounds and they are soooooooooo comfy! As for the rep in the hotel... she had been in the job for three weeks and had all the assertiveness of a mouse, although a lovely girl she was ruddy useless! i was in room 125 and my hair dryer practically burst into flames, i reported it the rep three times and in the end went straight to the receptionist who told me that they had to wait for a bit to arrive and it would take some time to fix!! one week later when we left it had still not been fixed! If you want a good holiday/decent hotel/ food etc then this is the place for you... suggest you are just as rude back to the hotel staff as they "may" be to you.
average hotel

We chose The belisire for an early break in the sun and for that it was good but the hotel needs to get up to speed on a number of points, firstly on arrival the bar was closed as it was after midnight there was no way of getting a drink of water or anything not even in the empty fridge/minibar,the room was boiling every night as the air conditioning is not switched on until july we were informed, the food allthough not to bad was the same thing every day and night which got a little boring,we also found it very noisy late at night with doors slamming etc, stay away from the trips offered in the hotel foyer as a number of people had problems whilst out for the day with shop owners shutting them in until an item was purchased, the resort itself is very quiet with no bars or resturants to go to,there are a few cafe`s around the harbour area but thats about it,overall not a bad week but i could not recommend it nor would we return.
Cheap yet luxurious

My girlfriend and I stayed here in Oct 06 and it was very good. We only paid £400 for a week, all inclusive (I wouldn't go non all inclusive as the food and drinks were quite expensive). We got put in a suite which was huge and very comfortable. The pool is great and its about a two minute walk to the beach, if that. I have no idea why people are saying its 15 mins away. You can see it from the pool! The food was also very good (for a buffet) with loads of choice and a good salad selection. I was actually a bit worried about the food before going but was pleasantly surprised. It also has a spa that offers cheap treatments. My only complaint would be that the entertainment is very tacky but you don't have to join in. Also the beer only comes in very small glasses so you'll be visiting the bar a lot if you're thirsty ; )
The week was hell on earth, Ok the weather wasnt good, the amenities were none existant, some staff were very rude, a stike didnt help matters either, although staff at the hotel knew it was going to happen and im aware more strikes may follow, we had no help from the rep... more
