We felt relaxed the moment we arrived. Jane & Richard ensured that we had all the local information that we needed to make the most of our stay. Our room was every bit as lovely as the photos on the website suggest, throughout there is attention to detail with lovely... more

The owner managers are charming and endlessly helpful to their guests, and all in all it would be difficult to find any fault with Shelleys. Shelleys has been refurbished to a very high standard, with comfortable beds, lots of hot water in the shower, and expensive soft... more

Shelley’s is a wonderful small hotel, very comfortable and very smartly decorated with a touch of something special, a lovely looking hotel in the heart of Lynmouth overlooking the bay. The hotel rooms are delightful, comfortable kingsize beds, sea views and some have... more

You will not be disappointed
We have just come back from a short break and have to say the reviews on Shelleys were very accurate. We were met by Jane who was helpful and advised us to purchase a car parking ticket for the car park opposite as were staying in the area for 4 days. There are so many lovely walks around Lynmouth that we just left the car and walked. We could only stay two nights at Shellys as they were fully booked and was delighted when Jane upgraded us to a conservatory room which was lovely, the room was light and had great sea views and I would suggest paying the extra if possible as you will certainly appreciate the view and the additional space. Richard & Jane are very helpful and the breakfast in the morning was very enjoyable.
Booked after reading trip advisor reviews - ideal location
I booked this hotel based upon reviews on this site and was not disappointed. We can confirm everything good that has already been said about Shelley’s. Our room was very clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated to a high standard. Shelley’s is well situated just a stones throw away from the shops, restaurants and harbour, yet it is quiet and peaceful. We will definitely stay here again and would have no problems in recommending it to anyone else.
Great standards at Shelleys
An excellent hotel with really great standards. Light, airy rooms with good quality furnishings. Large, comfortable beds and a few really nice touches and attention to detail that gave a feeling of luxury. The best rooms are the conservatory rooms with a balcony - the conservatory being an extention to the bedroom leading to the balcony which was a fabuous place to sit and take in the excellent views. Location is as central as you could wish for and parking close by was easy. Hearty breakfast with plenty of choice and friendly hosts made our stay relaxed and enjoyable. We stayed only 2 nights and wished it had been longer.
What a great find - Great Getaway
We were visiting friends who were staying at a different hotel by the harbour. We stumbled upon Shelley's while looking for a room since our friend's hotel was booked. What a find it was, it was much much nicer than the place we couldn't get into which we thought was very over-rated. Shelley's is small, refined with a nice lounge & bar and a great location with sea views over Lynmouth Bay. The rate was very fair and their 3 for 2 Exmoor Breaks offer excellent value. Shelley's is very highly-recommended for your stay in Lynmouth and makes a great base from which to explore Exmoor National Park. Very comfortable and very relaxing; just what we wanted and a fantastic breakfast was included as well. Thoroughly recommended.
Great Hosts
Excellent accommodation, lovely & quiet, great airy rooms, top class breakfast, don't wish to say too much as there are not many rooms & we may struggle to get re-booked when we go back!
Lovely small hotel in a great location
We stayed at Shelleys for just one night in the first week it opened a few years ago and always promised ourselves that we would return. Having spent too many long weekends in airport lounges we decided to take some friends and have three nights in Lynmouth at Easter. We were lucky with the weather admittedly but we had three lovely days at Shelleys and found the extra we paid for a balcony/conservatory room was justified. The hotel is lovely as Richard and Jane just let you come and go in a very informal way but they are always on hand if you need any help. The breakfast really is as good as previous reviews say and each day we found that we didn't need any lunch until mid afternoon - and then not much. There are lots of places to eat in the evening in both Lynmouth and Lynton and Shelleys will make recommendations for all budgets. The car parking in Lynmouth is not easy but the hotel can provide a parking permit for four days or a week at reduced rates. But you might have trouble if you kept going out in the car and returning in the middle of the day as there were limited spaces available. Better, by far, to walk everywhere and when it gets too much, take the cliff railway and have a hot chocolate at the top of the hill! We will definitely return again.
The Best Small Hotel we have stayed in for a long long time
We had a wonderful stay at Shelley's for the last few days of October 2004. We had never stayed here before but we were familiar with that area of Exmoor as we had lived in Devon several years ago. When our plans to go to abroad had to be changed, we decided we'd like to spend part of our vacation in North Devon. I began looking for accommodations on the Internet, and reading Tripadvisor reviews of Shelley's and their website - ----------------------- - helped me decide to stay there. I also found their special offer on the Internet, 3 For 2 Exmoor Breaks which was excellent value. The staff couldn't have been nicer to us. One thing that we really enjoyed was that Shelley's was a very elegant and delightful hotel with no loud carrying on like you find some places. We were very happy with our room, it was very nice, very clean, with lovely furniture, spectacular sea views and very elegantly and stylishly decorated throughout. We were very happy indeed to partake of the great breakfast every morning. We found many choices, coffee, tea, milk, juices, cereals, and toast as well as full English breakfast, kippers, kedgeree, scambled egg & smoked salmon and waffles just fantastic in a cheerful breakfast room with magnicient views. We would be vey interested in staying there again when we go to Exmoor in the future. Our experience was wonderful - can think of nothing bad to say - it was all very very good!!!!!!!!
Lovey hotel
Stayed at Shelley's Sept. 2004. Great family run hotel in lovely Devon village. Greeted with a welcoming cup of tea & felt very comfortable here. Lovely room, spotlessly clean with all usual extras plus a conservatory / balcony room to sit & watch the world go by. Very pretty village with lots of walks & history, including a water powered lift to the village further up the valley. Would definitely visit again. Only niggle was that we had to pay to park opposite the hotel - a little mean when everything else had been so carefully thought about.
