San Giovanni Hotel

Just returned from a week in Livingno and the large volumes of Ice, San Giovanni was a good resting place - On a HB basis you generally would not leave the restaurant hungry excluding a few nights when it all got a little repeditive. Breakfast was a little dissapointing - some variety would not go a miss. In general however it was a nice place to stay rooms were prefect to what you need for the week - Clean - Nice bathroom ( Shower) a bath would be nice after all. Staff could be a little more friendly to those on a HB basis. The First night we arrived we were sat down and given menus we informed the abrubt waitress that we were staying in the hotel and asked her the procedure, with that the menus were removed from our hands and the linen napkins were removed from the table and replaced by blue paper ones. It was a little embarassing however we were able to laugh at it. Its also a bit of a stroll from the nite life but it worked for us.

As budget concious South Africans we loved the homely atmosphere and tons of great food served up by the San Giovanni, even though it is situated away from the main "party" centre, the friendly and noisy pub downstairs was a great place to meet people and watch the latest sport or news on TV. Steps away from the best outdoor Apres Ski party at San Rocco, it is great value for money. Our room had an awesome balcony with views down the valley and up the slope. If you are on a tight budget but still enjoy a home from home atmosphere and can cope with a bit of noise late at night, the San Giovanni is brilliant!

Just returned from my 3rd brilliant stay at the St. Giovanni. 21 Paramedics from London visited Livigno this time, with 16 of us staying here. The staff are soooo helpful, the food is lovely, typical of the region, and the breakfast certainly sets you up for the day. Have already booked to return at New Year with all my family. First class. Family of 10 just back. Accommodation perfect Food brilliant, nothing too much trouble, staff even provided pizza for children when they were doubtful about the meals. Hope to return.

As others have said, the rooms are small and basic, but the food and the staff are excellent expecially considering the price. As the week went on and the word spread the place got busier.

Hotel San Giovani is full of warmth and welcome - just what you want when on a skiing holiday. Food is fantastic and hotel staff very friendly....however if you like a good nights sleep this is not the hotel for you! Having a bar within the hotel open to non residents and a speaker outside the hotel make it a very noisy night to try and sleep. We had to ask for them music to be turned down every evening and even then the dull sound of music could be heard through the room floor....this may not be the case for all the rooms but certainly the ones above the bar area....A very nice hotel but just be warned if you like a good nights kip!

we have just returned from a 7 day myself and wife x 40 + 2 kids 20,19,from livigno on our first but hopefully not last skiing holiday staying at the wonderful San Giovanni Hotel curtesy of Savio Cuisini and his crew. Hotel is terrific food was excellent(although i like my meat well done) of ample portions and good variety soups were brilliant - guiness , german beer on tap sky sports in the bar for us footy men. Livigno as a resort has some spectacular(havent been any where else so no comparison)scenery and good selection of shops and pizzareias aand bars but after a hard day o nthe slopes San Gio is great for a few after dinner beers etc - Ski school at the rear of the hotel where our Instructor - Luca was top class - even i made it down red/blue by the end of the week - ski run 17 which is 2 bustops down from the hotel is a better learning slope top marks for the whole holiday if money permits we will definetly be back

We didnt stay in San Giovannis but in apartments up the road , but spend practically every night either in the bar or eating in the restuarant. We were there in 2004 na d 2005 and will probably be back in jan 2006. Great hotel and staff...

The rooms are quite small and basic but the staff were lovely and the food was excellent, would definitely return.

If you ever wanted a little taste of traditional Italian hospitality steeped in a natural surround of a warm mountain lodge then the hotel san giovani is it. Set amid the outer snow fields of livignos northern sector you have a sence of a winter vacation of yester year, what with its quiet location and a lounge full of like minded mountain people.Skiers and climbers all sharing tales and stories of a time long gone over hot drinks and beer. Traditional italian fare is the order of the day at at san giovani in a small pine clad restaurant full of the sweet scent of a wood fired stove filled with hearty pasta and pizza all sizzeling on hot stone with copious amounts of home baked bread and desserts served by an ever friendly staff. You then retire to a basic bedroom of fluffy quilts and dream of excitement to come. early morning brings buffet breakfast of local cheeses and meats, swiss preserves and bottomless coffee pots, then out into the clean livigno air straight onto the cross country piste or a bus to the sunniest slopes right outside the door. the san giovani is traditional in every sence of the word as this is the place of choice of the Italians and local folk. The prices in the hotel are very reasonable and we would have no hesetation in returning to this lovely hotel in the sunniest valley in the alps time after time.
