i stayed at tenerife sur in July 2011 (2 weeks). The pool area was opened between 9am- 7pm, we had to get up at 8 every day and go downstairs around 8.20 to make sure that we will get a bed and an umbrella. I find it amusing that for such a big complex there are approx 10... more

Just got back from a week in tenerife staying at the Sur apartments in Los Cristianos. Very pleased with the apartments, they where cleaned regulally and offered all the facliaties you would expect. The rooms are modern with good access to the rest of the resort.
Thank heavens for ear plugs which saved our holiday!
Just arrived home I am sad to say because we had a fantastic holiday. Los Cristianos is a wonderful harbour to visit, full of charm and a refined feeling. The locals are very friendly, made us feel very welcome. Our favourite restaurant to eat at down at the harbour was called FADOS. Service with a smile and great food. The harbour views are breathtaking, the beach lovely and sandy, the sea safe (cold this time of year but we did brave it once). Lots of shops and several bars. Our apartments - basic but all that we required and everything worked including a hot shower. The room was extremely clean, towels and sheets changed frequently, crisp white and not a speck of muck in sight. The pool views are quiet. We had a road view (our choice) but the brochure does not state we would be opposite karaoke bars so that our advice would be BUY EARPLUGS OR TAKE SOME WITH YOU. These saved our holiday. Our rooms were 341 and 343. If you are facing the road on the other side you should be ok, not directly opposite bars. Have to praise and thank are lovely rep lisa who managed to get us a room change but we declined as it was mid week and we wanted two rooms together plus we were there for one week (two would have been different). Please rest assured that if you do have the noise problem (and believe me it was horrendous) if you use plugs your problems will be solved and your holiday will be fab like ours - 9 out of 10. We always got sunbeds, no problelms and the sun bathing area was lovely and spacious. We sunbathed on the grassy area. the atmosphere was relaxed, quiet and family orientated. The pool was heated, one half for swimming, the other half for inflatables and a kiddies pool. Also a life guard. The restaurant was fab and we ate breakfaast and evening meal there occasionally when we couldnt be bothered to go elsewhere. We recommend you try it. The harbour and beach about a 10-20 minute walk, we didnt mind this as it was nice to do both daytime and evening to exercise and get our teenagers moving! We went on the whale watching trip with the freebird one vip trip which was the most amazing experience ever and one we wll enjoyed and will remember for ever, well recommended. We also did mount teidi. We were amazed to look down on a sea of clouds, we watched the sunset, had an amazing meal in the restaurant and star gazed (my husband and I went on the vip evening jeep trip) well recommended. (only downside no loo stop after the restaurant ie 3 hours so i darent drink the lovely wine and champagne!!). (well it was ok for the men to dash up the mountainside but difficult for women in the dark!!). We walked for miles around los cristianos loving every minute of the area. We wanted a lovely relaxing week away to spend time as a family and thats exactly what we got. This was one of the nicest areas we have ever visited and I cant recommend it enough. We will definitely return one day. Happy holidays to you all we rate ours as excellent.
Great time
Although we expressed a wish to stay at the Cristian Sur which is the sister hotel on opposite side of road, mainly because it is smaller and other reviews said that it was the better of the two, we wasn't too surprised when we were put in the Tenerife Sur as previous reviews also said that most people were put in the Tenerife even though they had pacifically requested the Cristian Sur. Our travel agent did advise us that they couldn't guarantee which hotel we would be put in. We found out later that the main reason for this is because most of the apartments in the Cristian are privately owned. The Tenerife Sur comprises of a large white block of apartments at the opposite end to the entrance to the hotel and several low rise apartments built around the pool. I'll be honest we were a little disappointed when we first realised we would be staying in the large block, however, we soon realised that it was probably the best place because although the outside of the apartments was a little neglected and could do with a lick of paint and some flowers in the troughs, we were far enough from the pool, road and bars not to be bothered by too much noise. The apartment was clean and smelt nice and although not very big there was ample room for two and besides we didn't plan on being there all the time so it was sufficient for our needs. It was cleaned most days and the bins were emptied everyday even Sunday. My only concern would be if we had children with us as the balcony's (which are of an ample size) are fairly low and the width between the bars are wide apart. Also when it rains, as it did for a day, the tiles on the stairs, landing and around the pool are very slippery. Some reviews stated that the staff were unfriendly and not very helpful but I can honestly say that we found them to be the opposite. The only place we found the staff a little unfriendly was in the bar/restaurant located at the entrance to the hotel but it didn't bother us too much. We like the beach which is approximately 10 - 15 minutes walk but are well worth it, besides the pool area gets really packed. Los Cristianos is a very clean, pretty place and the beaches are cleaned everyday, there are a wide variety of restaurants, in fact we were really spoilt for choice. There are plenty of bars to choose from but if you really want a lot of night life you'd be better off going to their neighbour Playa Des Las Americas, we only went there once and found it a little seedy and grimy to say the least but its an individual choice. There were a few 'touts' trying to sell something or pull you into a bar/restaurant but not as many as we have experienced in other places we've stayed and on the whole it wasn't a problem. It was our first visit to Tenerife and we really liked Los Cristianos, we will definitely go again and would even stay at the Tenerif Sur but not in the busy seasons.
Need Earplugs
We have just returned from our holiday in the Tenerife Sur apartments with our 2 friends we have been going to Los Christianos together for several years and over this time we have seen a lot of changes we have stayed in the Tenerife Sur on a regular basis and enjoyed the stay very much we had 2 seperate apartments on the ground floor next to each other overlooking the main road and opposite the noisy bars on the other side of the road what a noise the Karaoke was on till 2am and it was so loud you could not sleep traffic was not too bad. The best chinese restaurant is the Treasure just accross the road from the Tenerife Sur fabulouse food never had a bad meal superb also a lovely Tea Shop down in the town called Lakeland Tea Rooms very pleasant lovely decor Yellow and Green nice and bright very clean also nice and helpful staff well worth a visit. Will look forward to going again and staying in the Tenerife Sur but will request a room on the other side of the pool in the appartment block overlooking the pool. Beware of the major building work down in the town along the streets as they are puttting down new paving stones not suitable for wheel chair users at the moment.
ear plugs necessary
Just returned from these apartments, need updating, not very clean. Do not have one road side, unless you like Karaoke until 2am (glad we took earplugs) no double glazing, loads of traffic. We wont be back.
Tenerife is booming
The staff and cleaning service is very friendly and helpful. Almost everyday cleaning. Rooms are ok. But the hotel has some apartment/rooms alongside busy road with taxis and bus 24/24, or with family bars and karaoke or construction workings. So the best side to stay is inside along the pool. Bus station is around corner with connections all over island. Center of town is small but plenty possibility's and has also some local atmosphere (better than terrible Los Americas or you like living in shopping's) Tenerife is a booming island of investments in tourism, but there are still beautiful spots, when you open your eyes and you dont' believe the hype.
Not totally satisfied
Just returned from a week's winter break in Tenerife with my husband and 2 sons. Stayed in Tenerfie Sur Apartments, Los Cristianos. Apartments in general require refurbushment. We were initially given an apartment at ground level facing onto the main road. This apartment really needed a good clean up - rust marks on bath/shower area, dishes and cutlery would require a wash before one could use them for example. Moved to a first floor apartment which was better but still facing onto the road which was quite noisy right throught the night. I had booked our two 21 year old sons into a studio with twin beds but on arrival they were checked into a studio with one double bed which they were not happy with - took 2 days to relocate them. Reception staff not overly friendly especially when we had issues! Wont stay there again. Dont accept apartment facing onto the road unless you are very heavy sleepers!
Fantastic Staff and Facilities
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Tenerife Sur for 2 weeks in December. The staff are really friendly and the apartments are clean. Even our Maid Maria always stopped to say hello on occasions. The best Chinese with the best ribs on the Island is called "Overseas" - a bit weird for a name of a Chinese restaurant but their food was to die for!!! We spent most days on the beach which was a 10 mins walk away (Playa Las Americas). Food was really cheap 6 Euros for a whole chicken to take away or 4.50 euros for chicken, chips and salad. We will definitely be going there again.
Very Pleasant Stay
We booked a package holiday through Thomas Cook and were placed at Tenerife/Christian Sur. On arrival we were assigned Tenerife apartments, although we could use facilities at both. Our appartment was nice with a small living area, separate bedroom, adequate bathroom and nice balcony with airer. There were some thoughtful touches like a bottle opener and a bottle of water on arrival. An ice tray would have been useful. The pool area was very nice with lots of loungers, space and shade. The pool makes a feature with different areas and if you have small children there is a very good kids pool for toddlers. We didn't eat in the restuarant but the main area of Los Christianos is 10 minutes walk away with plenty to chose from. We had a room with a pool view which was quiet enough but I believe the back of the hotel was very noisy at night. Staff are friendly and efficient. Overall if you are thinking of booking this hotel I would go ahead.
family holiday
There are two styles of apartments and ours on the low rise blocks were lovely. Balcony access from bedroom and sitting room was a good size. However our apartment on arrival was overlooking a noisey main road. The traffic and noise from the British bars across the road was horrendous day and night esp. if football on TV and we stayed in October! We got moved after 2 nights thanks to an excellent Holidays Direct rep. The pool area is really nice with ample longers(unchained at 9.00am). The English were always first down! There are plenty of shady areas around the pool under the palm trees. Gardens were lovely too. Maid service x 5 weekly and the place was spotless. we never saw a cockroach the whole week If you turn left out of the complex ans left again in front of Aguarmar Complex you will come to a good supermarket. You'll also pass a decent bakery with fresh bread, scones, cakes, pizza etc. There are a few eateries near here too providing cooked breakfast for 3-4 euros. Another short walk away are local bars.restaurants etc. Chinese and Indian food especially inexpensive. Futher down the hill a short walk is the main resort area. You will feel abit harassed as your walking down the street and are approached by restaurant staff inviting you to dine. The usual "lookie-lookie" men are around but they weren't too much of a pest. The beach isn't fab but its sandy and clean. In all good accomodation and good adjoining restaurant just make sure you gaet a room with a pool view. Resort Ok. it is quiet for tenerife but we prefer Menorca.
