" I went with my Dad and two younger... "
Submitted By: Miss K Holder
I went with my Dad and two younger brothers, and we really liked the hotel. It isn't the best of hotels for families, especially with young children as there is no where to sit and relax, however for older children it is ok.
We got to know all of the staff, and they were absolutely fantastic, really kind and accepting. They really encouraged us to try to speak in spanish and when we did they showed so much enthusiasm (and the odd free drink).
The rooms are average, they aren't amazing, but otherwise they are perfectly good, as are the bathrooms. The rooms were cleaned everyday, our beds made and fresh towels provided. Then there was a pool table, TV, cards, chess, racing games etc. and the sauna and jacuzzi. There was also a place for you to leave your boots and ski's, although the walk is atleast 5-10 minutes up to the slopes, however if your fit that shouldn't be a problem.
All in all, we really enjoyed ourseleves once we settled in and got to know the hotel and its staff. Infact the staff made our week!!

" We took a group of about 25 to Cal... "

We took a group of about 25 to Cal Ruiz including a lot of beginners and everyone loved it! The rooms were nice and comfortable and the staff very caring and helpful. We thought it was a great location as it was near all the shops, party-wise the nightlife was great, the Underground Club had an excellent atmosphere along with Milwakkees and some other classics. Everyone had a top time.
The only thing we all found was that the water wasn’t very hot at all-in fact it was freezing! Not the best thing to stand under after a long day on the slopes! However there was apparently a problem with the boiler so fair enough, it was sorted after about four days but I’d recommend showering late or earlier than most so you can actually have a decent amount of hot water!
One thing I found though which was unusual was that the maids were soo nice! Normally when you go abroad they are very abrupt and moody but they were very nice, did their job very well and with a smile as well! They always left clean towels and did an excellent job. The cleanliness was of a very high standard and is a credit to them!
Overall an excellent holiday I’d love to go back!

" Cal Ruiz is a hotel I would never... "

Cal Ruiz is a hotel I would never stay in again or even recommend it.
As soon as I and a friend arrived we complained. It boasts that it has being refurbished that made me laugh.
We asked for another room because the room was so small for 2 people, there was no natural light in the room and the 2 bed side lights was the only light.
Literally the rep even said it was the house that jack built when we complained.
After the 2nd day we got another room, at an extra €180, my friend’s room was so damp and the smell of damp was not very welcoming.
So to sum it all up the slopes were great but the hotel was horrible and a good 10-15 mins walk every day to the slopes.
So decide for yourself... wrong choice if you do pick there.

" We have just returned after spending... "

We have just returned after spending a fantastic Christmas in Pas De La Casa, made special by staying at the warm and comfortable Hotel Cal Ruiz. The hotel is extremely clean and much more modern than expected. Maid service is daily and the staff spoke good English and were polite and friendly.
Whilst our room was a small but adequate modern, clean and comfortable double with en-suite at the back of the hotel, facing the sports centre, our sons aged 18 and 16 had a larger than average twin room with en-suite and balcony in the attic. The views from their room were tremendous.
The restaurant is spotlessly clean and attractive. Breakfast is buffet style, providing everything from Cereals, Fruit, Toast, Bacon, Sausages and Eggs with unlimited tea or/and coffee. Dinner is also buffet style with salads, vegetables and a good assortment of hot dishes, however you do have to pay for the drinks.
The hotel has good leisure facilities with a pool table, sauna & Jacuzzi. However if that is not enough after a hard day skiing there is a large sports centre 20m away. is situated on the main road, towards the edge of the resort The only downside is the hotel is 450m downhill from the slopes which can be tiring when walking uphill with ski boots, skis and poles.
All in all the Cal Ruiz is a great hotel at a great price and hope to return there in Feb 2006.

Upon arrival at Cal Ruiz we were shown to rooms that we had clearly not booked and then when we complained we were told by reception "what do you expect such a late booking". Hotel were rude and very unwelcoming. The lift worked once you kicked it a few times (health and safety) so avoided using that.
Advice: Don't go to Cal Ruiz
Activities: was not able to book any.
Good for: Ski
