" Holiday From Hell "

This is the worst holiday we have ever had in our entire lives, first time all enclusive food we are vegans it was almost impossible to find any food to eat. All there was was meat, fish and chips which were served every day. Puddings were all the same rice pudding, ice cream, jelly and tinned fruit both evening and dinner (ALL CRAP) Food was cold and supposed to be hot and was not kept heated. Some of it was un-cooked, hence husband was ill twice over the fourtnight that we were there - as he was sick and had stomach cramps and he was not he only one as many more were ill too and were moaning about the foods standard and food. He took his bike to ride and was on it during the breakfast hours so when he returned he had missed his breakfast and had nothing to eat for dinner or tea on nine occasions except bread and butter due to no food was available. As he left on his bicycle around 6:30-6:45am all of the hot food dishes for the breakfast were laid out ready to go cold. This would not be served until 7:30am so was cold because there were no heated containers for it. I also struggled to find the right amount of food to eat. There were no hot drinks with dinner or tea because we had to drink fizzy drinks or alcohol which we did not want all of the time. The food was not labelled properly eg. vegetable rice had ham pieces in it, the scrambled egg had meat in it too and onion rings contained fish. The snack bar upstairs contained ham rolls, cheese rolls, croissants and an occasional cake that was not under refridgeration. If you required anything else they wouldn't do it.
All of the crockery and glasses were all chipped and had pieces out of them. Husband had a shard of glass on his mouth after drinking some beer and was lucky not to have swallowed it. The resturaunt contained two doves that kept flying around during meal times and the staff were feeding them bread on the floor.
The rep was non-existant and we only saw her at the welcome meeting and she never returned again. She was supposed to be there at certain times that were stated on the board but never returned. Others wanted to see her too to complain and to book up trips but were not able to do so.
The pools were supposed to be heated but were not so we could not go swimming. Also there was supposed to be entertainment each night but there was only; bingo, A drag act and a magician also parrots and snakes - This was supposed to be the entertainment for the night but each only lasted for 30-40 minutes and then there was nothing else.

Advice: DO NOT GO THERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES FIND A BETTER PLACE

" dont do it! "

we arrived quite late at night and were upgraded straight away to a 2 bedroom apt (hence giving a 3 rating!). The next day after i had eaten i had the runs, i thought it may have been the alcohol from the night before until i discovered that every time i ate something in the hotel i was off to the toilet for the next 2 hours! this went on for the whole time i was there until eventually i couldnt bear the effects the food was having on me and we decided to eat out. Having said that, the apartments are really nice and modern. Only 1 of us could get a hot shower at night as the hot water ran out and the lights outside and on the balcony wouldnt go on until long after it got dark. No problems getting sunloungers by the pool either. I would never return to this hotel even if i was self catering because of the showers and lighting situation!
Save your bowels folks and book somewhere else if you are thinking of all inclusive! I had actually got a bug from the hotel and i only found out after i came home and had to go to doctors!

" Sol Morromar - Excellent Value for Money "

Just returned from 1 weeks all-inclusive stay. The Hotel was excellent. Very clean, staff extremely helpful and pleasant. The hotel caters for mainly Spanish holidaymakers, which in my opinion made for a much better holiday. We were able to try different foods and there was a huge selection, which was different every day.
The local beer is San Miguel, which went down very well sat by the lovely pool under the sun.
My only criticism would be that the food choice in between main meals was poor, mainly hot dog & chips & poor selection of cakes.
Other wise a fantastic holiday, AI exceptionally good value for money with entertainment provided in the evening.
I'd definitely recommend hiring a bike (10 euro per day) as very flat and cycle lanes run most of the coast from Aricefe to Porto Del Carmen.
We'll definitely be going back to this hotel on the AI option.

" sol morromar apartamentos "

i was very pleased with my choice. it was immaculately clean and the pool was very well kept, there was always cleaning been done in the complex and it had nice friendly staff. the food was ok but i was getting a bit bored with chips and some other foods that i wasn`t really used to.. other than that i really enjoyed my stay, the scenery was gorgeous and it was a nice 45min walk into the main strip or 5euro by taxi. it was about 8euro by taxi from the airport. the pools were lovely and i always found it easy to get a sun lounger everyday.. its a 2min walk to the beach which was stunning. i would highly reccomend this to anyone i would definately go back.. i don`t think i would go all inclusive again though. there is a few shops near by and a supermarket in the complex which wasnt too expensive. if you drink tea or coffee you would have to hire a kettle for your room..overall i had a very nice time, so i hope this helps others when choosing there destination....

" Booked a 10 day AI holiday to this... "

Booked a 10 day AI holiday to this sub-standard accomadation. The food that was served was always cold, dried out and lacked in varation!!I felt the hotel did not cater for the AI market,it was a waste of money. The gym that is adviertised, consits of 1, yes 1 cycling bike and nothing ELSE!!! Correct me if I am wrong, but I certainly think you need more than that to be classified as a gym. Similary, the entertainment was pathetic, most night seemed to be of a bird theme!!!! It was the worst holiday I think I have ever had, the staff did not make matters better, they appeared to lack in customer care, in a HUGH way. I do feel holiday makers should think very carefully before choosing this accomadation!!!!!

" Just returned from a week’s stay.... "

Just returned from a week’s stay. Do not book transfer, holiday company will charge you £20 for a 4 euro taxi ride.

Do not expect any staff to be friendly to you, this is a mainly Spanish tourist hotel, and staff are rude to English.

Do not go here unless you like cold sub standard food and paella (with brussel sprouts) twice a day.

Good deal on all inclusive drinks but only 1 barman in an inside hot bar with no proper seating. Barman wanders off for 20 minutes at a time to find 6 glasses, but it doesn't matter because if you are English you are ignored.

On a positive note the room maid was lovely and the room was always very clean!

Only pleased that we only booked a week’s holiday. Would feel really sorry for anyone who had saved for a year to stay here.

" Arrived at the Sol Morromar and we... "

Arrived at the Sol Morromar and we were immediately upgraded from a 1 bed apartment to a 2 bed given that our 'children' were 13, and this was done free of charge and without us having to ask! Very impressive!

On entering the apartment it was immaculately clean! Spacious, well equipped, bright and cheerful with a cracking balcony overlooking the pool! 2 Large double bedrooms and plenty hanging space!

Very very good!!

The complex was fantastic!
Two large pools although one (the heated one) was closed for maintenance work! However we still had major amounts of fun in the other pool! Was very safe for the girls and well lit at night for us all to find our way around the complex and back to our apartments!

Food: Breakfast was great; full English breakfast if you wanted it and also a huge variety of cold cooked meats and cheeses, breads and pastries, fruit and yogurts!

Lunch and dinner: Variety of hot and cold dishes, chips with almost everything though but also other potato dishes! Loads of fresh salad and fruit, endless amounts of quality ice cream! And although the all inclusive meals were not always our ideal choice of food, it was still very good! Carvery roast 3 times a week and this was lovely!

All inclusive drinks! Hmm... Lager on tap pretty much from 11am till 11pm as well as a variety of spirits and cocktails however I must admit the cocktails were more like syrup, fruit juice and a splash of alcohol....hence never feeling the slightest bit tipsy but still they tasted nice! Soft drinks were available too at all times as well as 'snacks' from the pool bar!!

Beware though, the 'Pool Side' snack bar menu as well as the leaflet you get on arrival would have you believe that all the pool side snack menu food is free! It’s not!

Only ham and cheese toasties and burger and chips were free with the odd cold meat and cheese sandwich! Everything else on the menu was charged as we found out but in all fairness the waiter did tell us when we ordered it wasn’t included in the all inclusive!

Most of the staff were really helpful and friendly, however as the night wore on the staff in the bar were not too friendly when the children went to the bar asking for drinks for themselves and friends they had made there! Being told they had had enough was not really acceptable in an all inclusive but that’s the only complaint about the staff!

Entertainment! This was very poor, few tatty shows but wouldn’t have lost any sleep at missing them!

Transfers!
Don't book a transfer, we paid £56 for a transfer and the taxi from the airport to the hotel was only 4 Euros including a tip! We know for next time!

So all in all a very nice holiday, totally relaxing, clean apartment and plenty clean bedding and towels! The weather was cracking although slightly breezy but this was welcomed as was really hot there, and would definitely go there again!

" The hotel staff were very friendly... "

The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was good, and a good variety of different dishes.

Entertainment was very poor at night and the bar area was so bland it could get a bit depressing night after night.

A short walk to some nearby bars or a cheap taxi ride to town (3 Euros) is the better option.

Apartment was pretty basic but clean, and only the 2 English TV channels. Pool areas were big and spacious. Enough sun beds in May. Not sure about August.

Would I go back? Probably would.

" The hotel was very quiet and clean.... "

The hotel was very quiet and clean. The staff at the main reception desk were very nice and helpful however, the entertainment was absolutely dreadful, the worst I have ever encountered.

Matagorda resort is very run down and there are only a handful of restaurants and shops, which are not very good.

We went to the main resort most nights however, getting a taxi after 7.30pm at night was a nightmare.

Unless you want a quiet no frills holiday, I would not recommend this resort.

" My husband and two sons (26 &19)... "

My husband and two sons (26 &19) stayed in two adjacent apartments. Couldn't fault it ,we ate down in Matagorda which offers a wide range of menus Chinese, Japanese, Italian English which are reasonably priced and is within walking distance. There are a couple of supermarkets in the same precinct and are cheaper than the one under the hotel. Very clean and quiet staff also friendly this was before the season officially started so we used it as a base. Taxi to the main drag about 3-4 euros. About 10 minutes from the airport.

" This is the worst place I think I... "

This is the worst place I think I have ever stayed in. My wife, 2 boys (2 & 5 years) and myself have just returned (3/8/2006) from the Morromar.

The Staff were rude and ignored us at the pool bar/buffet bar until they had no choice but to serve us. The food is basic, but is advertised as a la carte/fine cuisine.

There is only one buffet and a pool bar, not several restaurants as the web site said. The gents’ toilet in the buffet area had no soap in the dispenser for 5 days (only filled after complaints). There were no lights in some of the ladies toilets, which as the cubicles have no windows, makes things difficult.

It was "totally renovated" in 2004, but you would not know this to look at the place. Room floors not swept in the 2 weeks, no "piped music", TV has 2 channels in English (eurosport,CNN), rare towels/linen changes, and "the beautifully tended gardens" are palm trees in volcanic rock.

Even the children’s play area has a floor of small volcanic rocks, not very child friendly. The jacuzzi was green with rocks in the bottom and the fully equipped gym had three exercise bikes, one multi gym with 60 kg, and a couple of other weights on the floor. I feel sorry for any one who is transferred to this place, but if your looking to book, DONT.
