You get what you pay for.

"Hotel was situated in a quiet road about 5 minutes by taxi from the lively resort of Palya Del Ingles (incidentally the taxis are very cheap).

Rooms were a good size but very basic and above all very clean.

The pool area is the hotel's best feature with plenty of sunbeds available. Although for some reason inflatables were banned from the pool!

The pool bar was very cheap, (can recommend happy hour) the food was pretty good and the service excellent.

Staff at reception were also very helpful.

If you are looking for somewhere quiet to stay but don't want to be too far away from the bright lights then this hotel would be a good choice.

Overall we had a good time here.

"After reading some of the reviews we were dreading our weeks holiday there! It was a very pleasant surprise to discover how wrong they were!! The bungalows themselves were basic but clean and tidy. The actual bungalow looked onto the pool which was a fab location as it meant we could watch the kids from the bungalow when they were playing in the small pool. Now the pool is a different story! It was supposed to be heated but i would like to know exactly what that means!! the children went in a nice shade of white but came out navy blue!

The pool side bar served usual snacks and were served by pleasant staff. The reception staff were also very friendly.

The location was ok with everywhere accessible for about 3 euros by taxi. The beach is a fair distance away but a free bus is provided and operates 3 times a day. Holiday world and faro 2 are 5 minute walks away while yumbo shopping centre is about a pleasant 10 minute walk.

All in all a great holiday for the price, especially as we had the added highlights of the carnival and no cockroaches in sight!!!

I read the reviews before we went on...

"I read the reviews before we went on holiday and was very concerned that our holiday accommodation would be a complete disaster even though some of the reviews were ok! Imagine my relief when we arrived to find a very pleasant complex indeed. Our bungalow was comfortable, clean and basic. I do agree that at least a kettle should be provided but we managed fine without. All the staff were helpful and friendly especially the English girl who was in the bar every day. We like to get off the beaten track and explore the area so we found Gran Canaria to be a very beautiful island when you get away from the built up tourist areas. We had a lovely holiday, only saw 1 cockroach and that was outside the loo! The maids were great , always left the apartment spotless and smelling lovely. I would go back again. Definitely value for money!"

I cannot believe some of the reviews...

"I cannot believe some of the reviews here. Perhaps it depends upon the time of year, but we had a terrific holiday and were very satisfied. Looking for some January sun, we booked at the last minute and secured a very good deal for a week. Transport from the airport was fine, although we were horrified by Play Del Ingles, with its traffic and its high-rise buildings.

We were pleasantly surprised by Maspalomas. The roads were clean and quite, whilst the complexes were two stories at the most. Maspalamos Lagos, although a bit dated, offered us all that we needed. It was spotlessly clean, the staff were helpful and our room was adequate for our needs. No toaster, but then we eat toast at home. We either made delicious sandwiches or ate at Meloneras. No kettle, but then boiling water is no problem, when you have a saucepan. No oven, but then we only cooked pasta, for which the pans were fine.

The Faro 2 centre provided us with a nearby supermarket, although the selection of fresh food was limited. The civic market, in the opposite direction was massive and had all you needed at good prices. Plenty of fresh food and vegetables. Well worth a visit.

It was an extremely pleasant 2 mile walk to the sea, where we found the nature reserve and the spectacular dunes. Meloneras was an upmarket combination of boutiques, restaurants and glitzy hotels. The beaches were excellent and you could choose between the rocky areas by the boulevard or the sandy areas by the dunes. Hard to beat, anywhere in the world and with January temperatures going up beyond 25, what more could you want.

All week long, we planned our return visit and we shall be looking forward to an extra week next year.

Just What The Doctor Ordered

"Looking for a quiet week of Winter sun, we discovered this ideal spot. As the bus dropped holiday makers off at their various locations, we felt extremely apprehensive. Playa Del Ingles seemed to be a high-rise nightmare. However Maspalomas was a different matter. An area of low-rise apartment complexes, set in tree lined streets, it was very pleasant indeed.

The complex was a bit dated, but extremely good value for money. The pool was spotlessly clean, surrounded by a sparse crowd, mainly of the "Saga" generation. Facilities in the apartment were adequate, we boiled water in a saucepan and even managed to cook a couple of pasta based meals.

The beach was two miles away, but this presented us with a very enjoyable walk every day. The Faro Boulevard was excellent, featuring nice restaurants, smart shops and grand low-rise hotels. It was the equal of any sea front I have encountered. The dunes were spectacular and, overall the area still retained a natural charm.

We will certainly be returning!

Lovely bungalows in an attractive and peaceful setting

"just had a lovely two weeks stay at Maspalomas Lago bungalows. They are lovely bungalows in an attractive and peaceful setting. The bungalows are clean and all had a terrace and garden. We had towels and sheets changed twice and the bungalow was cleaned every day. The downside was the blankets and bed covers. The sheets were lovely and clean but the top covers had paint on them and looked as if they either hadn't been washed or washed so much they were rubbed up and faded. The blankets are revolting bown or striped and looked really dirty. There are lots of trees and flowers everywhere which is a lovely. There are three pools and a poolside bar. Don't go there if you want evening entertainment or night life as there isn't any. The food is variable, with little choice. Some days the meals are lovely, others just OK, and on 3 nights the choice of main course was fish fingers or meat balls! The soup is lovely every day but if you want fancy sweets you will be dissapointed. Sweets are generally jelly and ice cream. For breakfast there is a good choice of salad, cold meat and cooked English. Its a pity they think English people like eggs fried in tomato sauce and soggy bacon. There was only a 2 slice toaster for the whole restaurant. The location is good, it is between Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles. Maspalomas sea front is 45 mins walk away and Playa del Ingles front is 35 mins walk away. Holiday World is 5 mins walk away and there is a fair, bowling alley, restaurant, bars, pony rides and a parrot show every night. Faro 2 is also 5 mins walk away, it is a shopping centre with loads of restaurants and there are also playgrounds for the children. Taxis are everywhere, just stand by the road and one will pull up. They cost 4 euros to Maspalomas. We got a taxi from the airport and that was 35 euros and on the return journey we got an airport bus from almost outside the hotel and that was 6.80 euros for 2 people. The hotel reception is good, they speak English and are very helpful. We booked through the internet without a travel company and the hotel give us details of their own rep when we checked in. We rang the rep and got first class service. We would definately go back but maybe on a self catering basis next time."

Very Nice !

"Just got back from these apartments yesterday after staying for a week. I had read the reviews before we had left & was not sure what we would find! but we was very pleased with the apartment it was basic, but VERY clean, a bit on the dated side but all very liveable, we bought our own travel kettle as after reading the reviews on here saying you can hire a kettle, toaster etc.we asked at reception & got a toaster & didn't pay anything! didn't need a fan so not sure about the cost of hiring that! There is a coin operated TV in the apartment,1.50c Euro gives you an hour of tv & 3 Euros gives you 24 hours tv, all mostly German stations!!! but you do get BBC World free if you don't want to pay anything station 1!

The hotel pools are lovely & clean & reception staff are very obliging there is a restaurant on the complex had different comments about the choice of menu, there is also a bar where you can buy 5litres of water for 1 Euro(save you lugging it in from anywhere else!)& its cheap to drink there too, happy hours 8.30-9.30!!

In reception there is an internet terminal 2euros for 25 minutes, its quite a slow connection at certain times of day!

There is a free morning bus service from the apartments, you will receive a card from the hotel that gives you this free service that takes you to Maspalomas dunes/beach area this leaves at 09.45,10.45 & 11.45 & returns 14.15,15.00 & 16.15, its quite a popular service so get outside in time & you may have to stand but its only about a15 minute ride to the beach, the walk into Mapalomas is pleasant but its up a long'ish hill! the taxis are very cheap around 3 to 4 Euros into Maspalomas or Playa de Ingles you can hail them outside as long as they have a green light showing on top of cab, or reception will call you one.

There are other busses that you can catch outside the front on main road, they are blue & number 30 goes to Las Palmas, 39 Porto Rico & 32 goes to Porto Mogan, (Fridays are market days in Mogan, the buses get packed so you will wait for SOME time to catch, use the porto Rico bus & connect to Mogan when you get to Rico, its easy & you can connect easily its quicker than waiting for buses that go by as they are full from the bus top outside the apartments you will see!!)

There is supermarket not far away, Faro2, go out of the front of the hotel turn left, walk little way then left again, you can see this shopping centre from the Lago apartments & the supermarkets open 10am - 9.45p open every day there are some good restaurants & bars & shops etc.

You will see also on your walk to the Faro2 shopping centre a large amusement park Holiday world, opens in the evening & its a good place to have a look around with some restaurants there & rides to go on good for families etc. also close by there they have a market on Saturday mornings.

We never had any problems with cockroaches none in our room, but a couple we chatted to did find 1 in there cutlery draw much to there horror! so be aware they are about & we saw some on the perimeter of the complex!

Enjoy, we did!!

We have just come back after spending...

"We have just come back after spending 2 weeks at Maspalomas Lago apartments.

We found them very clean, just 2 cockroaches which scuttled away when my sister screamed and didn’t see them again.

We found plenty to do, even walked to Maspalomas sand dunes which takes about 20 minutes, but it is worth going.

A trip round the mountains is really worth it, you can book with reps.

We ate at the yumbo centre 3 times; the Chinese buffet is good euro 6.50 for as much as you can eat!

We would go again.

Quiet and well maintained

"Spent a lovely week at these bungalows. They are a good size the bathroom being spacious with a bath. Kitchen area is compact with large fridge no kettle or toaster. Rooms were cleaned 5 days in the week. TV is coin operated 1.50 Euros for an hour or 3 Euros for 24hrs but there was only BBC World News for us English. We had a nice terrace which was quiet and caught the sun. The bungalows are in two rows around the pool so if you were in the inner you would have a view of the pool.

We stayed half board and were pleased with the food and service. Breakfast, there was a choice of hot and cold dishes which altered, only thing I would say juice wasn't fresh and coffee was out of a machine otherwise would not fault.

Dinner again was good food, always salad and soup and then a choice of three main meals. There was a dessert and ice cream which was very tasty. Service was good and often saw the chef come out to ensure there was good supply of food.

There are supermarkets and restaurants in Faro 2 Centre or if you go in the other direction when coming out of complex there is another supermarket 10 minute walk.

The beach is a good 1/2 an hour walk or use the free bus which was punctual and pick up a card from reception with the times.

I would recommend these bungalows for there cleanliness and quietness.

Firstly, the price we paid for 2...

"Firstly, the price we paid for 2 weeks holiday in Gran Canaria (including our flights) was a bargain - £375 each.

When we arrived I did get a bit annoyed at the way the transfers were organised - Thomas Cook Group definitely needs to pull their socks up. We landed around 01:45 so it had been a long old day and a very uncomfortable flight from Birmingham.

A plane from Manchester arrived at about the same time. Baggage didn't take that long so you can use your own judgement as to why the journey took until 5.30 to be complete when the hotel was only 40 minutes away.

What added insult to injury was the fact that the transfer bus from Manchester was following us to the same hotels so they could have easily halved the transport time and been a lot more efficient and economical.

The welcome meeting was organised for 9.30 the following morning - another no-brainer, needless to say we didn't bother!

The hotel was fine, I like the apartment layout rather than being in a multi-storey hotel. Rooms were quite small, I wouldn't imagine 3 could be comfortable in one. The rooms were kept clean and the maid even washed up, which wasn't expected or necessary.

The pool area was clean and tidy, plenty of sun-loungers to go round. Bar meals were basic but tasty and there was plenty of choice drinks-wise. A daily buffet was available and I heard good things but we mostly ate out.

Holiday world is really close, I suppose it's good for the kids but we weren't that into it. Pharo2 is really close by as well, there they have some supermarkets, restaurants, a few designer shops, souvenir shops, pharmacy and an activity-booking outlet. (If you get chance go on the Quad Safari, its brilliant fun).

We did the excursion to Loro Parc, which is a bit of a trek and a long day but totally worth it, we had great fun. The other excursion our rep was kind enough to nearly ruin for us - they told us the completely wrong time and pick-up point, if another rep hadn't taken over we'd have missed it altogether, and no doubt not been refunded. It was the yellow submarine and although it's great when you're down there it does seem a bit overpriced for what it is, you do get a good chance to walk around Port Mogan though and it's very pretty.

To get to Playa Del Ingles was about 3e and Maspalomas/Meloneras (very nice) is probably about 4 so the beach is a bit far away to walk to in the heat but there's a courtesy bus three times daily as well - just remember to get a ticket from reception as they don't tell you that.

Generally meal prices weren't as cheap as some of the other places we've visited, you're probably looking at English pub food prices plus your drinks, which were sometimes expensive but with generous measures.

I have to say we had a really good holiday and basically paid for what we got. The hotel wasn't the best ever but it was functional and clean and the staff at the hotel were great, really friendly and sweet. Perfect for couples of any age I think.

"Lago was ok-ish. The staff were very good, well all but one. Our holiday was an ‘on arrival’, when we got to the airport the rep told us it would be Lago. On the coach our rep give us an envelope that said we would be met the next day at 1pm, so we went to meet him and he never turned up. So we went the next day and again we never saw him, infact we never saw a rep the whole time we were there. The only time we saw one was when the tour busses were dropping other guests off.

This is the first time out of 5 visits to the Canaries that I only had two rings to cook on. We had to rent a toaster, an iron, a kettle, so we cooked very little there. The staff were fantastic and very nice except the man in the bar.

The place was kept very clean, the nice cleaners came 5 times a week.

If you want good food, then go to the Yumbo in Playa de Inglis and look out for Caprichio restaurant its fab and its run by husband and wife, very nice people and the waiter is a nice guy as well.

My girlfriend and I booked our...

"My girlfriend and I booked our holiday with Co op Travel it was a c o a. When we arrived at the airport that's when we were told it was the Lago and it was a super place? Well my first complaint is that they only allowed us 15kg of luggage as we were 1 kilo over on our way home we were charged 9 euros.

Well now the complex, the Lago was not to bad it was basic I've been to the canaries now 5 times and this is the first time that I had to hire a toaster, a kettle and an iron, all we had was two rings. The place was very clean the nice lady's cleaned 5 times a week. The staff at reception were really nice and helpful. Oh and the cockroaches were friendly as well I found a way to kill them. If you get them in a big squirt use the washing up liquid.

We went once to the buffet dinner which cost 7.95 euros, there was no food in it - the chef was called to make us 4 chicken in breadcrumbs and veg, the dessert was ice cream so be advised don't do it.

On our first visit to the pool area we got just outside our door then after 2 days the mighty spanish came down from the mountains and took over the place we were pushed down in front of the bar area so the next day we got a taxi to the beach. After a few days they left so we thought yipeee we can move back up to our area again well the next thing came on top of us was the barman. He decided to move the table tennis table there!

Now for my travel we were handed an envelope on our coach saying our welcome rep would be on site at 1pm we went to see him the first day he did not turn up nor the next day in fact we never seen a rep the whole time only the ones dropping off new guests.

If you want good food go to Playa de Ingles Yumbo and down one level to Caprichio a very nice couple run it and the food is fab. So after this trip to Lago I dont think I'll be back to the cannaries. Well I'd like to see Caprichio again. Such nice people and as is the waiter.
