Having read some mixed, but mainly good reviews of this hotel, thought I should like to add some more well-deserved positives for this place. It's true the location is isolated and that Gundogan isn't the most bustling of places, but the hotel complex itself more than makes up for this. It's a stunningly well-maintained operation: spotlessly clean, well-staffed and beautifully-set hotel. If you want to avoid the 'Brits abroad' type holiday of bigger resorts, then you will love this place. My partner and I were one of only a couple of Brits, the majority being Germans, Russians, Spanish, Portuguese, Italians and Belgians. It was great to be in a place where the clients respected the property and staff and there was no loutish behaviour. The food was great and varied each day. Staff were attentive and very courteous. Our room was spotless and re-stocked every day. Maybe it's not a true 5-star hotel, but it would certainly be a high-marking 4-star and I would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing but well-serviced holiday. Dellboy & Ali
Restaurant was a let down
from Unhappy_holidaymaker
Overall hotel not bad. A few disappointments. For me the restaurant was not 4/5 star. Felt like in a refectory surrounded by gangs of youths - plastic/metal patio furniture, bright lights, generally poor service by youths who hadn't a clue what they were doing and couldn't be bothered. Were odd few who could be bothered. Little English spoken by staff in the restaurant which for me was a problem because I have a daughter who is allergic to nuts and nobody could help. Coffee from a machine! Only digusting squash stuff available for children, no fresh juice. Free for all with tables. 2nd issue for me was the beaches - covered in rubbish and broken glass. 3rd issue - no club for older children. The pools were good and children loved the children's pools. Would not return to this hotel.
Lovely Hotel and Peaceful Surroundings
from NomadPrincess
The hotel is situated in a lovely bay with peaceful and picturesque surroundings. The facilities were all excellent: lovely pools, plenty of sunbeds, a little private jetty, great food and drink. The main buffet restaurant always had plenty of choice and different food everyday (which was pleasantly surprizing as I was a bit worried that it might get a bit samey on an all inclusive). If you go to the main buffet restaurant then try and get seats outside or just inside adjacent to the outside area as I found that if you are a couple trying to have a romantic meal then the lighting in the other sections of the restaurant tends to be a bit bright and glaring (and can seem more like being in a canteen than a restaurant). This isn't a major issue - just our preference. The waiters were all attentive in bringing water and drinks etc. and I liked the chefs who would make you fresh omellette or eggs in the morning. Our bedroom (number 3201) was fantastic. Large and airy and overlooking the bay with views out to the sea and mountains beyond. It was a bit of a walk from the main part of the hotel but definitely worth it for the views (and of course it was therefore quiet at night as it was not near the bars or other entertainment areas). The shower was always hot and had good power and although the bed was nice and large, in our opinion was a tad uncomfortable (you may want to ask for another duvet to go under the sheet because I found it a bit hard). We had a Turkish Bath in the spa whilst we were there and it was great. Good fun and not too expensive. The spa facilities are all really good and it is worth popping in just to use the complimentary steam room or sauna if you get a chance. The facilities for kids were also really good. We don't have any yet but we both agreed that when we do we would happily take them back there because the kids pool with water slides, ice cream time and snack bar all seemed to be a hit with other people's children (who all looked like they were having a whale of a time). It is also great the way the hotel has so many different sections so you can happily be a young couple, or older couple, or group or family with kids in this hotel. There is something for everyone. All in all a great hotel and we will happily be back to enjoy more of the same!
Good hotel, good weather and good value for money....

We have just got back from a week's break at the Hotel Baia Bodrum and overall a very good week it was !! The hotel is quite isolated with very little to do or see outside of the hotel complex itself so if you are looking for a busy and varied nightlife then don't even think about it....For those wanting a peaceful break in a modern, spotlessly clean hotel with a very friendly and efficient staff then this will suit you just fine. The hotel is pretty close to a UK 4 star rating (no way is it 5 star), the rooms are spacious with great sea views, the food was OK for a week - not a huge choice but the quality was fine - and we were lucky in that the hotel was relatively quiet in the lead up to half term which meant plenty of space around the pool and therefore no early morning races for the sunbeds. Evening entertainment was very mediocre but for anyone who is a regular traveller this should come as no surprise and it hardly rates as a critical factor in terms of overall satisafaction ratings. Just a few minus points in what was an otherwise very enjoyeable week : 1) Background music around the pool area is fine but on a couple of occasions throughout the week it was like sunbathing at the Glastonbury festival - turn it down about 10 decibels please or better still turn it off. 2) Despite the Turkish currency being the Lira it seems that this is the last currency anyone quotes i.e. they quote prices in Sterling, Euros and even US Dollars before giving you the price in Lira and if you take the time to compare each one you'll see there are discrepancies which can cost you if you're not careful 3) We were unlucky in that the evenings were quite cold when we were there and so everyone crowded inside which meant standing room only in the relatively small bar area. No doubt summer would see most people sitting outside where there is plenty of room but a shame better use isn't made of the space on offer inside. Otherwise it was good value for money with very friendly people and lovely weather - what more can you want ? Go and enjoy the week just as we did..
Terrific hotel...........until...

Did our usual and booked through tour company Website. Thomson a la Carte bought through Thomson website for an early, slightly out of season battery-recharge. The hotel was fabulous - an official 5 star built on a number of different levels and exactly the relaxing slightly out-of-the-way luxury that Thomson said it would be. Low key entertainment got a bit same-y after a while but with a mix of a few Brits, Dutch, French, Belgians, Germans, Russians etc the company was great when you sat around the bars in the evening relaxing and chatting. Good uncrowded private beach and jetty area on the Bay of Bodrum and a choice of pools where good quality sunbeds were always available. Great quality and choice of food - a choice of speciality restaurants etc (in fact food quality and restaurant service was far better than the 60-ish % indicated by the brochure. Everything 100%+ .......until the party of 150 corporated Dutch came in and took over the whole resort for a "team building weekend" with the full blessing of the hotel management. In the wake of rising noise levels and harassment of bar staff who were doing more than their best, facilites were withdrawn around the pool so that the group could have exclusive use; areas of the buffet restaurant were cordoned off and reserved for them alone (including the NO SMOKING AREA); we were told that we couldn't use the private beach and that all pool activities -aerobics, water polo etc had been cancelled. Rules in the bar were changed so that the group got the "top shelf" International drinks at no extra cost to them as individuals, but we still had to pay extra. Disco (the main entertainment, but it didn't open until midnight normally) opening hours were changed for them so that they could get in earlier than the published times etc etc I can't blame the delegates themselves - I think if we were honest, we would all take similar advantage of what was to offer -but all this was to the detriment of a hundred plus holidaymakers from all over Europe who had paid a lot of money for a peaceful holiday. Reps were called. They, as well as individuals and groups of all nationalities (including Dutch holidaymakers) approached the hotel's managers, and we were all, without exception, treated as if we had crawled out from under a communal stone somewhere under the jetty. All of a sudden their longer-term guests had become totally insignificantly as the corporate £ signs flashed. A great hotel as I said but far more interested in the power of major group bookings, than in the needs and desired of the couples and families who make up the backbone of their clientele. The moral is - book it - it's great, and just what the tour operators say it will be, until the "seminars" take over, but just take the trouble to ask the hotel direct about what's in their diary before you part with your hard earned cash. They MAY tell you, but I doubt they would have notified your tour operator so that you could be warned before you buy!
Terrible honeymoon
from Abssam
We were advised by both travel agents and websites to book... what a mistake! The dance music throughout the complex was overwhelming ALL of the time. Despite complaining to the animation team and Management on a number of occasions, we were eventually told that the music was not offensive and was not ruining our honeymoon! The food was dreadul and samey throughout the 2 week stay and the staff were generally unhelpful. We subsequently wrote to Thompson 3 times to be eventuallhy told not to write ourselves again - only through a third party! Utterly dreadful!
jefferson family overjoyed with baia hotel.

When We went to Turkey 2 years ago my wife Clare was then 6 months pregnant With little Aidan we enjoyed our time so much we wanted to take Aidan back there for his first holiday abroad. We booked the baia bodrum hotel on looks alone and just hoped it would all be ok. When we got there we were not let down the staff were warm+friendly and the hotel was stunning. We had a week at the hotel and the weather for the whole week was well into the 90's everday the 2 pools were great and Aidan enjoyed playing with his cars in the sunshine. The food was always well presented and warm. I would recommend going in early October as the hotel was not over run. The bar upstairs in the main lobby was like something out of a Hollywood movie very smart people and very smart drinks. The day we left Clare+Aidan were very upset and all the staff had to have there picture taken with Aidan before we left. We enjoyed our time there so much we are planning to go back next year with my parents. A big 10 out of 10 from the Jefferson family.
Wonderful!

We arrived at the hotel after a four hour flight delay feeling tired and hot, but the welcome - and our wonderfully large bedroom - immediately made us feel relaxed and happy. The two children had a fantastic time and really enjoyed the activities and making friends with the other children there. They went on the banana boat and the jet ski - as well as spending lots of time going down the water slides. My eldest had her first Turkish bath at the great spa that is attached to the hotel. Six nights out of seven there were evening shows, which were fun and the animateur team worked so hard throughout our holiday. They organised lots of events during the day, which my husband took part in but they recognised that I was not interested and never pushed me! We spent nearly all the two weeks in the hotel complex (by choice) and only began getting bored with the food towards the end. The fish restaurant would have been spectacular (you are seated on a jetty with the sea lit up beneath to see the fish eating the bread you throw in) except the wind was blowing so hard that it was freezing. The hotel was spotless and the staff so helpful!! We would definitely go back.
true review

i booked to go to the Baia vai Chapa travel and Noya tours, i got a good price for one week all inc. some other people that went with our tour operator stayed at the green beach and meeting them on one of our outings was a eye opener there hotel was suppost to be 5 star but was far from it. anyway on to the Baia, after last year having a tragic holiday i read all the reviews carfully and chose this hotel based on the recent reviews. im 23 and went with my boyfriend in september 2006. we had chosen night trvel flights and arrived at the hotel at 6.00 am and wasnt due to check in untill 2.00 pm the same day, as with english hotels this is standard practice. we stored our suitcases and were able to use the facilites untill check in, however after traveling for hours we asked at reception and they checked us in eairly at 11.00 am so we could get some sleep. this was the first nice thing that the staff did for us. the hotel itself is modern and clean the staff clean on a 24 hour basis from windows to floors. the hotel was quite busy with arround 400 guests but the staff were plenty. the views were maginificent and the room was modern and spacious. if you get chance look at the hotels own personal web site everything you see on there from pic's to virtual tours is as it is in the hotel, fantastic. the amination team - prince mostly was fatastic he was non stop jokes and fun all week, the main resteraunt staff were superb, we didnt tip till out last day and tipped our fave people from the hotel with gifts and cash, as we thort it was more personal, just like the personal service we recieved, the food was fantastic the amination shows were great, the hotel was clean, the bar service was fantastic, the guests at the hotel that we talked to had all been there last year and we booked again for next year. we had some proffessional photos taken while we were there by the in house photographer he was great. the pick's will be on my wall within weeks. we swaped email addresses with some staff and the went above and beyond the call of duty and worked all day everyday we were there. it was like we visited our friends every time we went to each different bar ! we tought them english and they tought us turkish. there was however a few guests at the hotel that complained, for example they asked the waiter for tea and he brought apple tea, they asked again for tea with milk and he brought apple tea with milk. the guest in question complained to the manager at the waiters lack of english and i thort how obsurd how rude of you, its turkey not england ! not to mention that if he had tried to speak to his waiter he wuold have found out it was his first day and his english was limited but none the less there was other waiters on hand to ask. if this is the only thing you can complain about dont go - you only infurate people like me who listen in. and you bring down the friedly feel the hotel has. on checking out i cried as this place was amazing, as tfor the review that i read about it not being 5 star, i think she stayed in her room, as the hotel standards were fantastic, in england you would maybee get the service but not half as friendly. this hotel is a five star ! anyway dont take it from me please just visit and have the time of your life! love Alaine
