stayed there for a week with four friends..
at first everything was fine nice clean but small room, nice freindly staff. especially the chefs..
room service great.. beach not so..
only experienced disappointments on third and fourth night when i was out alone near the bar late night when a bar staff APPARENTLY being friendly said how nice i look. i accepted the compliment with a thank you and broke the conversation. the next night the same dude was trying to flirt with me but i wasnt holding a conversation because i was very uncomfortable as a decent girl would do..
then he had the nerve to ask me if he could come to my room after his shift!!!! i was insulted but stayed calm and polite and said no thanx i have people sleeping in my room..
after coming out from reception his BUDDY (bar staff) approached me and said i look nice.and if he could come to my room after his shift!!! whether its a prank or for real i was uncomfortable.!! what i dont understand is dont these men respect women? because i am out late what do they take me for?
It gets worse hearing later my friends had the same experience! we did not file a complaint because we didnt know who to trust!!
Overall outside the hotel it was good especially shopping.. few nice beaches, big markets nice weather..
BUT i would never go anywhere near turkey again so id stick to my yearly trip to italy...

i first read about this hotel myself on thomas cook and people said it was a good hotel with great bar staff (pedro) who has left long ago but i can say they still have the big bar which is the centre of the whole place and soon after 12 30 each day when the young bar staff come on the music starts which is boom boom with there big sub woofer which goes on all day and night till late, then you try and gt some sleep with the many passing scooters and noisy street at the back with the locals who sit out in there garden till very late shouting, the food is not bad but much better at curly's bar down the side street, the most annoying thing about bodrum itself was all the hastle you get from the many bar owners who try to shake your hand asking you where your from and trying to get you to drink and eat at there place which is all along the streets and i felt like telling them i have a brain and know when i need to eat after just one day, but i am a grumpy 63 year old who knows what and when i eat or drink, but if like me you are the reseved type who needs some peace in the day do not bother with bodrum or this hotel, bye the way there is no sandy beach at bodrum and what is left is full of tables and dog poo so if you sit down it will cost you a drink, not even the little so called pebble beach is free to relax or get a tan, don't touch the wall lights in the rooms i got a right belt electric shock off one the first night going in and changed the room next morning but did not touch anything electrical after that, can you tell i did not enjoy my holiday one bit and was glad to get home for a good sleep and a relax ? waste of money

  • Advice: up to 30 yes over that its a no unless you like boom boom music all day

Best hotel in Bodrum

I stayed here for two weeks in 2009 and had the best holiday in Turkey (and I have stayed in nearly all of the resorts in Turkey). The first room we got wasnt nice but was happy to move us within the day of arriving.
All the staff are friendly and happy to help though Eddie was our favourite! The food in the hotel is nice too but the restaurant across the road is just has nice and cheap to.
Plenty of trips to go on and even Istankoy offer a boat trip has they have they own boat.
Infact I am going back to Istankoy this July (2011) and I cant wait!!!

We`ve just came back from Turkey, Istankoy Hotel. The hotel was nice, small rooms, but clean. The staff was friendly but they tried to charge us for everything. They even don`t allow to bring your own drinks and food in which I consider very unplesante and I didn`t respect it. I don`t like any prohibitions like this while being on my holiday once a year. All rooms are around the pool where the music is played loudly till the late night and because non-guests are welcomed as well it was very noisy most of the nights. I was very very dissapointed with the beach, it was close, that`s true but full of people.I expected a sandy beach and the nice clean sea but it was far too long from this.Just sharp pebbles and the sea looking like a dirty lake.I also can`t recommend the trips which they offer at almost every corner in Bodrum. We went to see Pamukkale and Turtle beach through Queen Travel Agency and they took us to every single factory on the way in case we`d like to buy something and we had like 2 hours in Pamukkale only and 1 hour on the Turtle beach and that was ridiculous. The guide was very unfriendly when we complained about it and didn`t do anything. I`d rather pay more for renting a car then experience this again.I wouldn`t recommend the Istankoy hotel unless you want to have a crazy night life. The area is full of rich turkish people but they expect big tips everywhere you go.I didn`t get it.I probably won`t go to Turkey ever again.

Nov 2007, Mrs J Russell

I visited Turkey for the first time and enjoyed the holiday so much that I have re booked for next year.
Unfortunately I had to change to Marmaris as flight times form Glasgow to Bodrum are now night flights only.
Staff at hotel where polite and helpful and rooms where kept spotless. the Turkish night with buffet was great value, but watch out for mistakes with bill etc.
Going on a boat trip is a must and was very reasonable.

I stayed at the Istankoy in July....

Sep 2007, Mrs G Ancliff

I stayed at the Istankoy in July. Having previously lived in Turkey I have a good understanding of the cleanliness standards most Turkish adhere to.
Turkish people are usually the cleanest people you can meet. Not at the Istankoy. The mini bar was filthy. The cleaner did come in every day to tidy up, but unfortunately he didn't think this included the use of water. The toilet leaked.
The hotel was overpriced for drinks; they don't allow any food or drink from the outside. You need to check the reception daily in order to stop them charging you for drinks you haven't had.
During our time there customers got into a fight at 5 am, the staff refused to intervene until other guests complained.
The food however is nice; the breakfast is simple that’s how Turkish have it. The only people who would like the hotel are singles under 25. As it caters mainly for the younger set. Don't go if you want a family holiday.
However Bodrum region is beautiful, the people friendly and it's still possible to bag a bargain.

The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful; Erhan the manager could not do enough to make sure all his guest were enjoying their stay at the Istankoy.
Our room was cleaned every day and the we found the food to be of a high standard.
They also offer a Turkish Night on a Friday which was very good.
We have enjoyed our stay so much that we have booked to go back in August 07.
I would recommend this Hotel as it is near all the local shops and cafe/bars.

This was the first time that I have been to Turkey on arrival I thought where have I booked but once I entered the hotel the manager and staff were very helpful and friendly the maid service was brilliant could not find one single fault with the work that they did.
Bar staff (Burak & Akim) where very friendly and helpful all ready to entertain you or talk at the time of this holiday I had been have very bad problems at home they were very understanding and all around to cheer me up and listen when I needed some one to talk to.
Aaron the manager what a person if you have any problem he will always be at hand to help to sort them out hot water pillows anything was no trouble at all for him. When we did eat in at the hotel the food was very nice you could see that the food had been freshly cooked. The chef (Behcet) always had a smile for you and always asking if you are ok. The hotel is in a perfect place as it is close to everything that you need. I do not know about the hotel being rated as a 2 star hotel if it was up to me I would give it 4 stars.
The boss when he comes to visit the hotel is always welcoming and kind.
I have enjoyed it so much that I have booked to go back in November 06 and May 07 and September ‘07 all I can say is very well done to all the staff and manager. Would recommend this hotel to everyone.
